Lovely property, very quiet and peaceful. Lots of wildlife to see out your living room window. It was easy access to lots of different things and we had a great week despite indifferent weather.

We had a fantastic time at The Old Carthouse and would definitely recommend.
We had a fantastic time at The Old Carthouse and would definitely recommend. The location is beautiful, on a farm, and you feel like you have your own space and privacy. There are a few friendly animals which kept our small children really entertained. The owners are really lovely.
The Carthouse was very clean. A few spiders, but I think that is to be expected in a converted barn at this time of year. It was really well equipped if you want to cook, or if you have small children. We loved trying out the pizza oven, which was a real novelty and a lot of fun.
The location is great for good days out - we went to Shugborough Hall, Calke Abbey, the Adventure Farm and the National Memorial Arboretum. There aren't a lot of local amenities, but there is a very small shop a short drive away and some lovely pubs. The road up to the farm is not in very good condition and requires careful driving (although this is nothing to do with the owners of this property), but the property is well worth it.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The cottage is lovely and has lots of character. It's set in a quiet and peaceful spot and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners were really nice and were on hand if we needed anything. We enjoyed days out at Go Ape Cannock Chase, walks to Abbots Bromley and numerous bike rides. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend. Perfect place for a relaxing week.

A quiet retreat at the end of a private road.
A quiet retreat at the end of a private road. If you like your peace and quiet it's perfect. If your car has little ground clearance maybe you might think twice. We loved it.

We had a 3 night break at The Old Carthouse with our 2 children age 6 & 4 over Easter.
We had a 3 night break at The Old Carthouse with our 2 children age 6 & 4 over Easter. It was exactly as described a real home from home renovated to a high standard but keeping bags of character. It was well equipt, clean and the shower was hot & powerful. It was the perfect place to relax after visiting gullivers kingdom & thomasland/drayton manor (both great days out). The children loved the ponies in the paddock next to The Old Carthouse & the friendly retriever. Wifi signal was fine for us on vodafone & virgin, able to facetime grandparents no problem. Would highly recommend ?
