This is the most perfect piece of property in the Fort Bragg area. It's close to town, but very secluded as well. When you take the kayaks across the river to the beach, most of the time you're the only ones there. We found sand dollars and watched the sunset. The water is chilly, but walking on the beach was very pleasant. If you don't want to kayak, just relax on one of 3 outdoor spaces with views of the river mouth, dunes, and beach with waves breaking. They have a great fire pit! Inside the house was clean. It's not bougie at all - worn and rustic, which is nice because there's less stress about scratching the floor and such. The beds were so comfortable, the pantry and fridge well stocked. We absolutely loved it and would go back in a heartbeat! Thank you for sharing your house with us Cathy!!

Check in was easy but bring a flashlight, no outside light by the gate. The living room furniture is horribly dirty and stained. Bathroom light was hard to find and it’s difficult to shower if you’re over 5’ tall. The ants were bad so don’t leave your food out. The oven did not work either. There were a couple mice as well. The beds were comfortable and warm. The view is very pretty but there is not one curtain in the whole place, the one bedroom has another house facing the window so that was a little weird. Cathy was very responsive to our messages. They have a canoe and several kayaks for you to use as well as cornhole and a fire pit. If it wasn’t for the view I would not have chosen this VRBO.

wonderful place for a retreat and recharge, rustic, secluded and beautiful yard, basically your own botanical garden with ocean veiw. Kayaking to an empty beach and enjoying the fire pit were highlights.. just a beautiful slice of coastal heaven..

A gem of a location, with beautiful views. The house and beds were very comfortable. Well stocked kitchen and everything only would need.

We particularly loved having dinner overlooking the river and ocean at sunset.

This surpassed our expectations! We visit Fort Bragg every year usually camping along the bluffs of the ocean in Westport. This was a last minute decision to stay here and it was truly meant to be! The owner was easy to communicate with and was so nice and left me fresh cut white roses and balloons for my bday, what a special surprise. Thank you Cathy! The cabin is right along the river and the ocean. Beautiful views!! It was so nice to have the convenience of using the kayaks and launching right off the shore. We kayaked everyday and at sunset to 10 mile beach, it was truly incredible!! We saw seals, otters, bald eagles flying with their juveniles, osprey, cranes and all other beautiful birds! Loved the open bedroom surrounded by glass windows, the stars were incredible!!! When we camp I always say I wish our tent had a skylight to see the stars. I love that all the windows don’t have curtains as it is so nice to enjoy seeing nature. I love that the living room does not have a TV, I love that it is not easy to connect to technology as this forces you to disconnect and enjoy nature and time for each other. I am a history nerd and love learning about old buildings and what their story once was, this place has a story and I wish I knew what it was but it led my imagination to run wild thinking about it! The cottage is old and funky with lots of beautiful energy. I agree a front screen door would be nice. We hope to be back very soon! ❤️

We had a great time! Wonderful views, cute house, great outdoor spaces. This fits ours needs perfectly.

We absolutely loved everything about our stay at your amazing property!
The house, the furnishings, the grounds, the spectacular view were all even better than the photos in your listing.
We have been using VRBO for years and stayed in many beautiful places, but your house is our favorite and we hope to be back as soon as possible.
Thank you for a winderful time.

Ocean and river view spectacular. House is lovely and very comfortable. We really enjoyed our time here.

First you can't beat the Northern Cal Pacific Ocean, then the proximity of Fort Bragg with great restaurants and places to walk around, but still not so close that you are pestered. It really is perfectly located. Homey, everything you need.

The location is great for viewing and being immersed in nature. Clear river and water views around the home. We really enjoyed the various kayaks on the river and there were many animals to observe up river. The firepit was ideal for warming up and viewing the sunset and water. The house shows wear but we didn't mind since the environment was so welcoming. The host was excellent to deal with and provided a full list of using the home and water toys.

The location of the property is amazing! The boat house and kayaks were a blast. The fire pit, deck, chairs and grounds are second to none and my family loved it all.
Inside the house is a little too “rustic” for my taste. Needed to be cleaned better and there were a lot of mice droppings in every crevice. There was a lot of leftover food and condiments in the fridge/pantry and the mice are definitely eating those. I would recommend removing everything and doing a deep clean.
As noticed by several people the water had a sulfur smell. It makes taking a shower very hard to stomach. If it were my rental I would look into and fix this asap.
My family and loved the property and the location. We won’t return unless it is throughly cleaned and the water doesn’t smell bad.
Thanks!!
Kevin

What an amazing cottage! We had a wonderful vacation in this house. The house is quaint, cute, quirky awesome, and fun. The views are to die for, the house feels unique and so conducive to reading, relaxing, doing yoga on the deck etc. We loved exploring Jackson Demo State Forrest, kayaking to the beach, hiking nearby bluffs, exploring Fort Bragg. We had such a wonderful time!

This was such a perfect place to celebrate my brother's 80th birthday. When we walked through the gate we all made celebratory sounds because of the amazing sunset view over the river and ocean. We sat outside and just relaxed after a long drive. The cabin is comforting and reminded my brother and I of a much loved place we stayed in when we were children.

our experience was great at this sea side cottage. it was a full moon and we watched it set on the water. views of sand dunes, birds including a bald eagle which is pretty common but still miraculous for this area. we loved being able to cook and the iron tub. it has its quirks but they were made obvious by owner. rustic yet easy. we enjoyed the fires and taking in the morning sun on the private little dock.

The cottage is very charming and in a perfect location sitting over 10 mile creek with the ocean behind. The property is very private and quiet. The grounds are lush. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a recharge by the ocean. There is plenty of outdoor furniture to enjoy the view outdoors. Fresh roses were left on the coffee table.
Cathy was responsive to our questions.
The TV only plays DVDs, so we streamed the football game to our devices.
The water has a sulfur smell. I don't recommend drinking it but the host left plenty of bottled water.

It was a great rustic retreat, felt very private even tho just off the highway. Kayaking was lots of fun and the beach time was amazing. Bonfires with s'mores made everyone happy. THANKS for letting us stay!

Our week there went too fast. We enjoyed great weather, peace and quiet on the property and it made a great "base camp" for all the other N. Coast activities we persued.
4.8
We enjoyed our stay. Kayaking on the river was awesome

Our stay was restful, the views gorgeous, the environment peaceful, and the ever-present ocean and sky, spacious. The natural world was abundantly expressive. This is truly a happy place for us.

When you walk through the gate you’re greeted by a beautiful screen of plants. The house is very quaint and rustic. The house needs a good through cleaning, for there were cobwebs everywhere. Also, we noticed that there are nails sticking out of the railing on the deck, which need to be fixed. We were visited by a gray fox one morning and enjoyed our pelicans in the evening.

My husband and I love staying at this property! We will be back yet again! We enjoy this adorable, quirky and beautiful property so very much, and love the easy beach access. We saw many whales this trip and had fun ocean fishing and many many walks on the beaches. Thank you again Cathy and Jim!!

Mostly positive:
-Lots of light/windows
-Good location, right by river and close to beach
-Kayaks were fun
-Beautiful landscaping
Cons:
-It was a bit dusty, which my wife has coughing issues with
-The pro of windows is also a con to privacy. There were no shades/curtains
-Seemed to be a mice problem, one morning there was mouse poop in the bathtub. Never saw a mouse in the trap though
-Water had sulfur smell/taste
-Isn't a con with the the home, but the cleaning people showed up 45 minutes before check out. They didn't come down or engage with us, but it made us feel more rushed to leave
-The toaster was broken. It turned on and toasted stuff but wouldn't turn off, had to unplug it to release toast. It caused a bit of smoke the first time as we didn't know that
Other thoughts, doesn't affect score:
-The porch was a bit rough, could use TLC
-The shower/tub was a tight fit
-The internet is slow satellite internet
Most of the cons were small things, they added up over our 5 day stay though. Overall we were happy with the rental, I would give it a 3.5 if it were an option. If some of the cons were fixed I would definitely stay again.

Love all the outside spaces! Best host i have experienced!

The cottage is quirky and lovely at the same time. The views from every part of the house and property are beyond gorgeous. I loved having access to the river and beach and really enjoyed the peacefulness - this property is aptly named. The owners have put a lot of thought into providing lots of nice amenities. Overall, my experience exceeded expectations. I hope to enjoy a future stay.
Minor improvements that would make a solid impact:
-- way better instructions for the wireless network. I couldn't get it working even after contacting Cathy as the instructions were a bit vague. I work with technology in my job so it wasn't user error.
-- it can get quite warm in the cottage due to the wonderful skylights and windows. There are 2 portable floor fans but they were so clogged with dust that I couldn't risk an allergy flare up to use or to attempt to clean them. A screen on the front door would be nice to keep out the bugs - then that could be opened to get a lovely cross-breeze.
-- there was a definite sulfur odor to the water, which was disclosed. However, my communication said some bottles of water were there so I only brought a couple with me. There was no water I could find -- had I known I could have stopped by the store before checking in.
-- minor, but another point of setting clear expectations: the listing check out time states noon. In my check in instructions it said noon the top but 11am lower down.

This was our third stay at this place and we just love the quiet and private location practically on the beach. The canoe ride on the river is a big plus! The house is pretty rustic, a little tight but very cute and comfortable with beautiful views of the ocean and river. We will be coming back…

We are regular visitors to Sea Sanctuary. What's not to love: 2 beautiful beaches 1 wonderful river and the ability to breathe deep and truly relax in this one of a kind retreat. If you visit this summer be sure to bring a yoga mat and enjoy the open air meadow at the Botanical Gardens on either Saturday or Sunday at noon. Walk the Noyo Headlands and grab some fish and chips at Sea Pal Cove down in the harbor. Just be sure to be back in time for happy hour and sunset.

we had a great time at this home. I am beyond happy to have stayed here. Im looking forward to coming back for sure. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay here. We absolutely enjoyed our time here. Will recommend highly.

It’s always so good to be here, the dunes and river and ocean are balm for the soul and the house is cozy and wonderful.

Beauty, comfort, tranquility. Incredible location, on an inlet with filled with wildlife. Kayak from the property, Yaks included! A well used and loved family cottage.
4.8
The hot water definitely smelled like rotten eggs. The arm chairs had large stains resembling blood. Kitchen was well equipped, but had a noticeable slant. No curtains, allowing light into sleeping quarters. The smell of rodents was overpowering in the boat house. The step up to the deck holding the barbecue was not accessible for my partner with a knee replacement. Plus previous tenant left the gas on. Nails protruding the on the deck and in the house. Bed was so high it was not accessible. In the other bed one had to crawl over the partner. Cable for tv was out.
This place has much potential, but takes rustic to a new level.
4.8
Quaint house. Supplied with anything you might want. Grounds were very nice. We enjoyed our stay. However, I use a walker and there were several different levels in the house that made moving around difficult. I don't know how many people stay in rented houses but a little more description about appropriateness and ammenities that are needed for handicapped. This goes for all sites on Vrbo. I didn't realize how important this information is until I had a disability to deal with. It makes the difference of having an ok time or a great time. It would be a really fun stay for those with no mobility issues.

The cottage is charming and the views spectacular. For us, the opportunity to kayak every day was fantastic. The perfect respite. Our hosts were warm and responsive the few times we needed them.

Loved our second stay here
This was our second time staying at this place and we loved it everything about it. Great location with beautiful views, cool rustic feel of the house, and river/beach access using canoe or kayak. Also, close to town (but not too close). :-) We’ll be back for sure!

Great views but…..
Great views. House itself needs updates. Owner send an email and week before Our trip letting us know about the water smelling and that they might have a on again off again mice problem. It would be nice to know ahead of time when actually booking. We left closed hotdog buns on the Kitchen counter and thankfully I saw it on the day we were leaving because the bag had been chewed through And buns eaten by a mouse. I had 2 children with me and it was hard with showers after a day at the beach because of the smell of the Water. I had to go by jugs of water to clean them. If I had no listen booking I would’ve kept looking for a different place to say.
4.8
This was our third stay, and we will be back. The cottage is perfect for this retired couple, comfortable and homey with an eclectic and relaxed feel. The location on an estuary and the inclusion of kayaks that launch from a boathouse on the property are unexpected plusses!
4.8
Rented for a few days while we did hikes and things around the area. Great location, views, and weather while we were there. A few items of furniture were dirty/gross but nothing too bad, as expected near the water/outdoors. The water had a sulfur smell, however it’s most likely well water and typical for the area. Overall exactly what we expected and paid for and we couldn’t be happier with our stay. We didn’t shower due to the smell of the water but this didnt mater because our stay wasn’t too long. Great ocean hikes 20+ minutes away and very cool redwoods hikes (Montgomery woods) 1:30 away. Loved our stay in this cute little house. River kayaking was longer than expect in the photos but a fun experience as well
