House is authentic log homes that perhaps generations have enjoyed. The view of the Bay and the grounds were the best part of this stay.

Our stay at the Kilcher Homestead was magical!! The views are spectacular in every direction! Kelli, Shane and Otto are such cool, down-to-Earth people who work very hard on the homestead but took time out of their busy schedules to make us feel welcome! This was by far our best Anniversary vacation ever! We will definitely stay with them again!!

I will definitely have a return stay. Kelli Kilcher was beyond nice. Wandering around the homestead was very relaxing. I’m from Florida, so going to Alaska to be one with nature was just what I needed to slow things down a bit and recharge my battery.

We enjoyed our short one night stay at the cabin. The views were truly the best along with the walk to the beach!

The Barn is a rugged home-away-from-home. This kitchen is fully equipped with lots of pots, pans and other items. The beds were comfy and there was a tons of space for adults and kids to roam.
Shane met us at the cabin and showed us around. There’s always a lot of activités but nothing loud that is disruptive to our stay (it is a working homestead after all).
Make sure your ready for an outhouse as it is an experience unto itself. Not terrible but not for the faint of heart or nose. 💩
Everyone we met was so kind and this experience will forever be a fond memory for my family.

We had a great 2 days visiting the Kilcher Homestead. The Homestead was easy to find with the directions from the host. The log cabin we stayed in was just as described and met our expectations. The views from the cabin were amazing! Stellavera, the host, made sure we had what we needed. We were able to meet Atz and Kelli Kilcher, which was great! We will return on our next Alaska trip.

Peaceful!
We loved our stay here! We are fans of the show and really enjoyed feeling a part of the Kilcher legacy. We had a visit from Otto and he told us more about the lifestyle living on the homestead. He is very pleasant and humorous! Stellavera was great as well! She was very helpful will anything we needed and was wonderful to work with. Overall our stay was great just wish it was longer!!

This was my 2nd time to the Kilcher Homestead. On my 1st visit I stayed at the Wuz cabin (fabulous as well) and this time the Barn. Stellavera was hands on from the start, checking in to make sure we got there safe and that we had everything we needed. She even left the lights on as our flight was delayed and arrived late. The cabin was excellent. Large, roomy, well stocked, very clean. So comfy and cozy. Rustic charm. This yr returned to Homer with my travel partner, my granddaughter, and brought my daughter this time too. She was amazed at how friendly and hospitable the family members were. Visitors need not wander about looking for the shows cast and invading their private areas. They'll take time to stop in and say hello. The weather was great in June. The scenery amazing. Plenty of open spaces to wander and hike. The caretaker Angela was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the Homestead. She spent a lot of time with us talking about her time there and showing us around. We always leave there making new friends. Last year we were there a few days, this time a week, next year we'll stay even longer. Can't get enough of the homestead! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ isn't enough!! I would give more if I could. The Homestead is must see!! Peaceful, serene, quiet. Highly recommend this piece of heaven and Stellavera is a wonderful host. Enjoy your time there!!!

Peaceful and beautiful
Stellavera was very attentive and helpful. The barn is rustic, but not shabby at all. Lots of character as to be expected on. Kilcher property. Beautiful setting.

Okay stay
The views were amazing as expected. The cabin, bedding and linens were clean. The outhouse was not an issue either, it was clean and had that familiar outhouse smell, what can you say? To this end, everything in Stellavera's listing was accurate.
Cabin notes: The days were warm (mid 60s-mid 70's) during the day with the nights running in the mid-50's. Not much air circulates in the cabin due to only one window with a screen on the upper level and one on the lower level (did not want to leave the main floor door open at night). The cabin stayed a little stuffy (mid 70's) despite the pleasant temperatures.
There were three fire extinguishers in the cabin with only one smoke detector on main level and no operative C02 (carbon monoxide) detectors which is a concern with a gas appliance and wood stove.
Listing Notes: Stellavera met us upon arrival and showed us around. She briefed us there was a long term resident in the adjacent cabin where we were to share the outside shower and there may be limitations as to when we used the shower. Soon enough she came back and said we could use the shower as long as we did not make any noise or talk. We used the shower one time when it was evident the other resident was gone and found a note that stated no laundry or showering except between the hours of 11AM and 4PM (so much for a shower before bed!). An important disclosure that would have been nice before our decision to book!
Stellavera then proceeded to invite us to the homestead tour the next morning at 10AM. We later found out the homestead tour is only the original cabin that adjacent to 'the Barn' cabin which is open to the public between 10-2 Monday through Saturday which means your peaceful mornings end at 10AM. We attended the tour which is basically the 'inside baseball' stories of the Kilcher's, their history and a short tour of original homestead cabin. The tour is another fee, even as an invited guest. The scheduled tours is another one of those disclosures that were not part of the listing or subsequent discussion prior to our arrival which would have heavily influenced the decision to book this property. Another unannounced aspect of our stay was the apparent filming of the show the week we were there. Lots of activity/noise around the barn well into the evening.
Bottom line is that we were looking for peace and quiet--the Kilcher homestead is not exactly quiet and that was the most disappointing part of our stay.

Slice of heaven
From the moment we left Anchorage to drive to Homer, we were in constant communication with property mgr, Stellavera. All of the Kilchers were very welcoming and accommodating. It was such a pleasure to be invited to a private 4th of July get together. Wonderful caretakers (Dave, Jeffery, and Natasha) working very hard for the homestead yet taking the time to stop and welcome us. Great hikes. The most beautiful scenery in all of America. There is electricity in the cabin and running water. Although there is no indoor restroom facilities, Stellavera was very thoughtful to make the outhouse, clean and comfortable. Jane was a hoot! Otto made an appearance (or three!) with wonderful stories and jokes. Catkin was so pleasant to be around with great good-bye hugs! Faye was attentive to our feelings. THIS IS A MUST STAY FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A MAJESTIC SCENERY IN A LAID BACK ATMOSPHERE! Thanks for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Jeff says Hello and Thank you very much as well. XOXO

The views are breathtaking!
I cannot imagine waking up to these views on a daily basis, absolutely breathtaking!! We are from the mid-west USA with normal August temps in the 90s, so 40s-50s was a delightful break from the heat & humidity at home. Nights at the Barn were silent, a change from the crickets & bullfrogs at home. The bugs weren't bad either. We knew there was no indoor toilet, just an outhouse, and we were fine with that. We got to see Charlotte walking across the front yard, and she took the time for a photo or 2 together. Shane & Kelli also stopped by for pics and a chat, very friendly down-to-earth couple :) Filming for ATLF was going on that week, so we didn't have a chance to meet Otto, but just staying in the Barn surrounded by the magnificent views was an experience in itself. I highly recommend a tour of the museum (original Kilcher home). Such a wealth of information packed into an hour talk/tour. We only stayed 2 nights, but given half a chance, I will return for a longer stay!

Staying at the Kilcher Homestead was a dream come true for me and my daughter.
The Kilcher family couldn’t have been more hospitable. We felt like part of the family. The Kilcher homestead is a very special place. We felt right at home there. Staying in the barn was very comfortable. Everything we needed was there. Even the outhouse worked just fine for us. Love the show Alaska the last frontier and loved all the Kilchers that we met. We highly recommend a stay in the barn on the Kilcher homestead.

No bathroom or toilet, very busy outside with tours.
Stayed for only 10 minutes.
Not what was advertised. Details are now corrected. Niche market appeal.

Beautiful farm with amazing views!
Neat experience. The outside shower didn’t work and the power went off in the evening but other than those things it was a nice step back in time. The family was very nice & welcoming. The outhouse was an adventure but made me thankful for modern amenities!

This cozy place hit the spot on our 3 week adventure in the Kenai Peninsula. My wife and I could not have had a better experience at the barn. The views from the property are jawdropping. We spent so much of our time there walking the property and did make the walk to the beach. But be aware of the walk back! All uphill but well worth it. Thanks to Shane and Kelli for your visit on the way back from working on your house. We even had the pleasure of meeting Otto and to take a few pictures. Highly recommended!
