Lovely large home in downtown Leadville!
Plan a Reunion, Stay, Ski, Hike, Bike & Perfect for Race Crews!
Whether you are visiting for Leadville’s historic landmarks, enjoying recreation opportunities, or in need of rest and relaxation, the Rugged Victorian is the perfect getaway spot. Built in 1888 during Leadville’s historic Silver Boom days the Rugged Victorian has had several additions built on to it over the years. The Rugged Victorian is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Leadville, in walking distance to all coffee shops and pubs, just a few minutes from Dutch Henry tubing/Sledding hill and 15 minutes by car to Ski Cooper.
At 1850 sq/ft this spacious fully furnished Victorian mountain home comfortably sleeps 9. Boasting high ceilings with skylight, new flooring throughout, large rooms, a wood burning stove, a fully equipped eat in kitchen, large living areas with wifi and Roku, and a deck with mountain view and fenced yard, this home away from home captures rugged mountain living at its best with all the comforts of modern living.
So go on, invite your friends and family, get away from the hustle and bustle and head up to the Rugged Victorian!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. This is a short term rental specifically for families. We do not rent to companies or businesses looking to house their employees.
2. We NO longer accept pets at this rental.
3. The two patio decks are less than 3 feet from the ground and in CO do not require railings. While we’ve never had injuries and the house is typically rented in winter when the height of deck to snow coverage becomes non existent ( you can walk straight out from deck to snow), we should emphasize that using the deck during summer months when it is less than 3 feet is at your own risk.
4. A detailed vacation rental agreement is sent out after your booking request is accepted. The agreement must be signed and returned electronically. This is not a hotel, it’s a home, our other home, so the agreement we send out helps ensure the Rugged home is not treated poorly by guests as it has been on occasion.

We’re not fancy people so this place was fine. You’d have to know Leadville… not much is extravagant. (That’s why we love it) We wanted to be downtown closer to the start/finish of the Leadville 100 and knew kind of what to expect. This place checked the boxes for us.

House is close to everything. It is bigger inside than the pictures show. It had everything that we needed except for AC the first week. However, nice new fans that helped. We loved our stay!
6.0 / 10.0
While we enjoyed our visit to Leadville, this property needs some TLC before it can reasonably house 9 people. The mattresses in all rooms but one are very old, and our older members found they woke up aching from the sagging, springy mattresses in creaky bedframes. The cleanliness needs some help - kitchen was dirty and upstairs toilet had brown streaks as if it hadn’t been cleaned in ages. Sheets were rotten and ripped, plaster falling from the ceiling on the top floor. Although there is a jet tub, jets were broken. No AC, which is fine with fans on, but the fan was evidently broken by a previous party and unfixed. We were instructed on how to use the water filter but upon inspection, no filter was attached to the sink. The door stuck and took either two folks or specific handling to get into the house, difficult at night without lighting. The hot water in the showers randomly becomes scalding, making Shower Roulette a daily occurrence. Overall, the property is cute and has a lot of potential and it was great to have a roof over our heads for a reasonable price, but if we had more than four people we don’t know how we would have fared. It is understandable that old houses have quirks, but these seemed like easy fixes some attention could resolve.

The house was exactly what our 3 generation family needed for skiing at Cooper! We found the kitchen plentiful, with dishes and cooking utensils. The tv rooms were great for 2 different ages and the hot water lasted for showers. Thank you

Thank you Thomas and Nawal for the use of the house for the LT100 - comfortable, convenient and well stocked!

We had 6 in our group and there was plenty of room for everyone! The house was actually much larger than the pictures made it appear, which was a nice surprise. Everything was great and exactly as stated in the listing. Less than a 1/2-mile from downtown Leadville, easily walkable. Quiet street. This was perfect for our trip.

We were in Leadville for a ski weekend at Ski Cooper and this home was a great little place to recoup after a day on the slopes. Convenient location to restaurants and the slopes, and big enough for our group to enjoy!

Spacious with a cozy atmosphere!
We loved our stay here during our ski trip to Colorado. We came over the New Year and found the house to be decked out in lovely Holiday decorations including a Christmas tree. Chips and salsa set out for our arrival was an nice touch! Our group of 9 adults stayed very comfortably and communication with the property manager was terrific. We would definitely return to this property on our next trip to Leadville!

Leadville Stage Race
Cozy Victorian home in Leadville. Easy walking distance to most everywhere in town. It was our basecamp for the Leadville Stage race. Furniture was comfy and appliances all worked fine. Upstairs sink drain was a little slow. Very quiet at night. We'd definitely stay again.

Comfortable and Adequate, not Luxurious
Location is excellent. House itself is a bit quirky. Poor TV reception with Roku. Kitchen is large enough and well equipped enough to cook for 10 people. Matresses need replacing and summer sun through the skylight makes the upstairs bedroom like a sauna. Maybe fine in the winter. We enjoyed the wall pictures, and the flooring is very practical.

Nice house and location
We stayed here 5 nights. The house and location are really nice; I highly recommend staying here. The owners are great at communicating. Make sure you read their comments about restaurants and local activities in the pdf they send with the access code. The fish hatchery trailhead opened a new world of hiking trails to us.

Leadville House
The house was clean and very big. It accommodated our family well. It had everything we needed. I will say that the back laundry area smelled like animal urine. We had to burn a candle to cover the smell. The faucet in the upstairs bathroom was not attached to the sink making it difficult to use. The bedrooms upstairs and near the front door could use some blinds or curtains. The house and furniture could definitely use some updating. I was not thrilled that we payed a cleaning fee yet we had to take all the sheets off the beds, wash dishes, take out trash, and put all towels on the floor.

Awesome & Relaxing Stay
We loved staying here! Our group of 5 fit very comfortably and loved the ease that came with utilizing the space. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes and cooking equipment, which was very convenient. The house was warm, beds were cozy, and the sitting rooms were just what we needed after a day on the slopes. Hope to stay here again soon!

Great base camp for family skiing. Comfy, clean, and roomy.
The pictures do not do this place justice - it's roomy, cozy, clean, functional - we really enjoyed our four night stay. The high ceilings and loft area make it feel much bigger than it seems in the pictures. My family group included 7 adults & teens, and we fit easily. The kitchen had all we needed to cook meals each night after full days' skiing. It's conveniently located, and parking for two cars and a small trailer was no problem (even with heavy recent snow). The owners put up Christmas decorations, which was a very welcome touch. Overall, we will definitely try to re-book this place the next time we venture to Leadville/Ski Cooper.

Friends and Family Getaway
Accommodations were great for our 3 day stay. The owners of the Rugged Victorian allowed us a few breaks in rules to let us be together. We enjoyed being together, checking out Leadville, Turquoise Lake, and disk golf.

Great location.
Mountains to the left, easy walk to town to the right. had a HVAC issue but the owners quickly addressed it. Had our pups with us so the doggie door and secure yard was a great bonus!

Home away from home
Nawal and Thomas are great hosts. House was VERY convenient and quiet part of town. This was our home base for hiking summer 2020. We cooked a lot due to social distancing and the kitchen was GREAT. Beds were comfortable and the house is spacious. I would stay here again.

"Rustic" hous check ...Discrimination check
Stayed with my family in hopes of renting much more later as our company is doing a job to bring a much needed new hospital to Leadville during a pandemic. The rustic description is correct. This is an old, run-down, neglected, mismatched, and rustic house. No AC and one single broken working fan. Mismatch furniture and furnishings. The yard is overgrown, the decks with no railings. Broken ceiling fan, leaking skylights, broken or not working thermostats. It was an interesting switch from our normal house and Leadville was a pretty quaint small town. We actually enjoyed our stay except the upstairs bedroom gets very hot and there was one sort of working pedestal fan in the house.
My real complaint is the discrimination shown by the owners. The owners determined based on "type" of people that they would refuse to rent to my crews of honest hard-working people.

Summer Small Town Getaway
Leadville Rugged Victorian is a quaint, relaxing and honest property. My husband and I enjoyed having space for our hiking/biking gear, fence for our dogs and quiet neighbors. Do not expect more than rugged. For myself there could be some cosmetic updates, but my husband considered the property honest. The owner was quick to fix an issue upon arrival with the backyard that helped improve the quality of our stay. Overall, we had an enjoyable experience.

Home away from home!
We couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay at the Rugged Victorian! The property was exactly as described, rooms were spacious and comfortable and just about everything we needed was already provided and all we needed to do was grocery shop! Once unpacked, we felt at home... even our Sheepdoodle loved her stay (especially the doggie door).
The location was perfect for the start of the Silver Rush 50 race and only a few blocks from Harrison ave. We enjoyed spending time on the back deck enjoying views of Mt. Elbert, eating Mountain High Pies and drinking adult beverages :)
Communication was awesome with Thomas and Nawal. They were prompt in answering any questions and were EXTREMELY flexible when we had to modify our reservations due to a family emergency. You cannot go wrong with the Rugged Victorian! We truly enjoyed our home away from home and we know you will too!!!!!!

Great!
Nice clean house with comfortable beds and furniture, great for our two families. The location is great for ski trip to ski cooper and we found Leadville to be a quaint friendly town. I really appreciated how well stocked the kitchen was , especially since we arrived so late at night. Thanks for helping make our vacation great!

Our family really enjoyed staying at the Rugged. Very comfortable, functional and accomodating.
The Rugged is very comfortable for a large group or family. Our family of 7 fit comfortably with plenty of room to spread out. We were especially pleased in that it is functional with all modern conveniences. The owners are accessible for questions and are very willing to help. It is close to Ski Cooper and downtown Leadville. We will recommend to friends, and we will use the property again for ourselves!

Roomy, rugged, yet well appointed victorian home with updates.
3 families shared this home over President's weekend in order to take kiddies skiing at Cooper Hill. It was perfect with huge rooms, a good long entry hall for lining up boots, a big laundry room, two living areas, and a huge kitchen. This rental is well designed for families as it has double beds and twin length kid beds in 2 of the rooms, with plenty of leftover space for gear (lots of gear). One nice room sports a double, with an adjacent reading room, perfect for grandparents. The blankets are of good quality and there are plenty of sheets, blankets and towels. The upstairs is its own suite, perfectly fitting for 4 + gear, with its own bathroom. We cooked 3 different meals all at the same time on Saturday night, and it worked just fine. There are separate thermostats in each bedroom and the TV room. Be prepared that it takes a few hours for rooms to warm up or cool down with baseboard heat. Having 2 bedrooms and living spaces on the street level made loading and unloading very easy. The house is close to the city recreation center so kids can clean up, swim, and wear off more energy after skiing all day. One night the kids made a terrain park in the side yard. It is a good sized yard. No doubt we will be back with the same 3 families when schedules realign. Hopefully very soon!

I love the Rugged Victorian
Nawal and Thomas are very respectable hosts. Always responsive and caring. I found the Rugged Victorian to be very charming, accommodating and comfortable. I love the walk up-town for dinner and checking out all the character of Leadville. The two outside decks are wonderful to enjoy the majestic Leadville sunsets and nighttime sky. I would highly recommend this stay.

Ok but not great
The mattresses on all the beds need to be replaced. Very uncomfortable! Very hard to heat the house without the wood burning stove. Front door did not seal out wind very good.

Charming Home
We really enjoyed our stay! We arrived to find a bottle of wine, chips and salsa to enjoy. The house was perfect for our family gathering of eight. We enjoyed the outdoor porches and the beautiful mountain views as well as the fenced in yard for our sons dog. The house was charming and very neat and clean and the bedrooms were cozy. Good location and it was easy to walk to downtown to visit excellent shops, restaraunts and bars. Loved our time in Leadville!

This home hosted my family of 5 (plus one medium sized dog) for two weeks. There was plenty of room for everybody to spread out yet we all got together in the living area or kitchen during family time. Nice fenced yard and deck to sit out on. We walked everywhere in town except for our food shopping at Safeway. Loft area can get a little warm during day in summer. Three parking spaces also a good amenity.

Comfortable and roomy!
All 6 of us enjoyed our time in Leadville and your home. It was really nice to find a place with 2 bathrooms, which seems rare! We also enjoyed how spacious the place was. We were able to hang out in the living room and be quite comfortable. Plus, we enjoyed having a decent size kitchen to use.
Thank you!!!
