About this house rental
Relax and enjoy our quaint, retro 1400 SqFt, 3-bedroom lakefront home with beautiful views of one of Pennsylvania’s most pristine lakes, visible from the front porch or through the large picture window in the living room.
Nestled in the rolling Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Crystal Lake is a private, 45 acre, spring-fed lake located minutes from Elk Mountain Ski Resort. Our one-story home includes an eat-in kitchen, a dining area and a cozy living room with a fireplace that looks out over the lake.
The master bedroom has a king size bed, the second bedroom has a double bed plus twin bunk, and the third has two twins – sleeps 8. Crystal Lake is a private (not open for public use) family-friendly lake located just over 2 hours from both Philadelphia and New York City.
In the summer, you can enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water, sunbathing, fishing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding & canoeing. You may prefer just relaxing on the lakefront dock and front porch, or taking a leisurely walk, run or bike ride along the scenic 2.8-mile road that follows the perimeter of the lake.
For something more challenging, you can mountain bike or hike Elk Mountain, or bike the 40+ miles of Rail-Trails that run throughout the region. For the golf enthusiast, there are five public golf courses within 6 miles, including the nearby Scottish Glen, a 9-hole course situated on the lake with beautiful views of Elk Mountain. Many of the area courses cost less than $20 for 18 holes of golf.
While the charm and quiet of Crystal Lake is the draw, there are many other activities in the area. There are dozens of antique stores, particularly in the Fleetville area. One of the largest and most well known is The Carriage Barn, which has been featured in Country Living Magazine. Shopping is plentiful in Dickson City just 25 minutes away (20 miles). Here you'll find Veiwmont Mall, anchored by Macy’s, JC Penny’s and Sears, and many discount stores, such as, Target, Wal-mart, Sam’s, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, K-mart, Best Buy and Wegman’s. In nearby Scranton, the Steamtown Mall (23 miles) and the new upscale outlet mall, Shoppes at Montage (29 miles), are also great for shopping.
For outdoor enthusiasts, there are the NEPA Rail-Trails with many trails for biking and hiking plus events to participate in throughout the year. There are 3 local spots where you can park and get to the trail head. The main one is located in Uniondale where you will find the Rail-Trail office and Cable’s General Store... great place to relax, pick up some provisions and enjoy some great food! Ambitious hikers can hike up Elk Mountain... there are beautiful views at the top!! Afterwards, you can stop at Chet’s Place...
Local restaurants on the lake and within a mile include Oliveri’s and Crystal Pines. Many others are located nearby in Carbondale, Simpson, Union Dale, Clarks Summit and Dickson City all within a short 5 to 25 minute drive. Looking for Breweries... there are a number of them to check out within 20-30 minutes drive including in the charming town of Honesdale.

The main draw in winter is skiing and snowboarding at Elk Mountain, Pennsylvania’s finest ski resort with 1000 feet of vertical drop and 100% snowmaking coverage. Montage Mountain, which also features snowtubing is located nearby (30 miles) just off Route 81. The lake and surrounding area are great for ice-skating, cross-country skiing, sledding and ice fishing. The nearby Rail-Trails are also great for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. It was a nice stay and the property owner was easy to communicate with.

Cute retro lake house needs a little TLC but over all had a great relaxing time at the property and the lake was amazing.

8 friends stayed for a long weekend and had the best time! The lake is GORGEOUS (water's warm!) and the house provides private access to it through a dock. The owner also provided several floaties, and we brought our own as well.
The house was perfect in terms of sleeping arrangements and has a nice living room with a huge window and porch to look out at the water.
The kitchen is old and the oven was broken, but we were alerted in advance and were compensated with complementary linens. The stove also wasn't working the first day (which the host did not know), but she worked with us IMMEDIATELY to get it fixed! She sent someone over to check the breaker and that solved the issue. The grill worked perfectly the whole time.
Amazing communication!
The only other issue we had was with the Chromecast and DVD player. The Chromecast works, but is very old so it constantly glitches (not the owner's fault) and would require at least 30 min to set up every time. The DVD player was missing cords, and even when we found some to hook it up, it didn't function. I'd recommend bringing an HDMI cord and laptop if you want to use the TV.
Overall, we had an amazing weekend and would highly recommend this home!

We were in the area to visit family nearby. This house was exactly what we needed as our home base and its “authentic retro” design was so cute. It was extremely easy to communicate with the home owner and the house was very clean. Crystal Lake is beautiful.

The house was clean and cozy. It was an ideal location…a step back in time (plus WiFi!). The lake was beautiful and we really enjoyed taking our kayaks and paddle boards out each day! Manning’s ice cream was a special treat. The view from the front porch was spectacular! We will definitely be back!

From the moment we arrived we felt like we stepped back in time. This beautiful home is clean, quiet and feels like the slower days of our childhood. Kate was a great host and we loved the peaceful setting. This is the perfect place to relax and rewind!

because of the rain we had to stay indoors. The livingroom furniture was so broken down that you couldn't even sit on any of it,because when you did your butt hit the wooden struture and someboody had to pull you up..The kitchen was well stocked, but it needs a new stove top.bad..If those problems are replaced it would be a really nice place to stay. Now for the outside. The lake is beautiful but as far as fishing their were trees in the way so you couldn't cast your rod,and the pictures of all those nice decks don't belong to this house.very nice Richy Neighborhood and the neighbors are very friendly.
To sume up this vacatoin spot,if you are looking for a place to bring your boat and you like being on the water this is the perfect spot for you.You will most definitely love it here.

It was a great weekend and a great location and house. The only thing is there wasn’t really any indication that there were neighbors very close, otherwise awesome place.

Enjoyed a relaxing long weekend at this vintage bungalow on a quite private road. Nice large front porch to enjoy the beautiful views.
Kate, the host, was very responsive to my inquiries and provided a lot of information on outdoor activities and restaurants nearby.

Great Lake view - adorable Retro lake cottage
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this retro cottage. The lake is so close. Amazing view from the living room. We were visiting family in the area and was a great space to return to after being out all day. Loved the retro decor.

Ski Trip Fun
We absolutely loved every detail about this retro cabin. From the meticulous bathroom, once featured in the worlds fair for its design, to the working rotary phone. It was rainy, but we managed to ski and take walks in the fog. So relaxing.

The view is picture perfect. I was able through a friend to play golf at the country club and that T
There were a few glitches but the owner made everything better fast. The place is quaint but that was part of the charm. We walked almost every day when the weather permitted.

No Lake View Broken Down House
This place is terrible!!! No lake view, trees have grown up in front of lake! 16 years since pictures were taken!!!!! Same old furniture!! Roof is nothing but patches!! Broken and lose slate tiles on porch, Dangerous. 4x4 post holding up car port!!! Paint peeling off car port, windows and front door!!! Heater won,t turn off in bathroom and shower curtain hanging on back side of shower I guess so water won't go through wall!! We paid for 2 weeks but stayed 4 days. Had our children , in their 50's, coming up for a picnic, but I wouldn't have them see this place!!! The man that gave this place 1 star was right on. I'll give it one star because it is still standing!! Do you ever check out these places? I believe all the good reviews come from family members and friends!!!

Cute Retro Home on Lake
We had a really good time at this cute retro lake house, in spite of the weather. Super comfy and well appointed. Easy access to the lake which was used often for a bit of fishing even in the rain. Kate was very helpful and provided detailed directions which made getting to the place really easy. Nice wood burning fireplace kept us warm during the unseasonably cool Memorial Day weekend.

Lovely getaway
Had a wonderful, quaint experience on Crystal Lake! The property is located on a small road with great views of the water, outfitted with cozy furniture, and a great fireplace to round out the lake house retreat. Would recommend!

Crystal Lake Cottage
Our Family of 5 enjoyed a short weekend getaway at this quaint lakefront home. The vintage kitchen and bathroom are oldies but goodies, everything worked. The living room is the place to be with an awesome view of Crystal Lake and the fireplace is great. We had trouble navigating the TV and the DVD players wouldn’t work but who needs more screen time nowadays, in my opinion we’d all be better off with shutting the TVs off. Beautiful neighborhood.

Fall Family Getaway
The house was retro and cozy! Yes, it is older, you can tell from the pictures, however everything worked: heat, fireplace, oven. A few things could have been cleaner (front picture window facing the lake) and more comfortable (large sofa), however our family was overall pleased with the home.
The view of the lake is beautiful. It was too cold to go out on the lake, but we walked the 3 mile loop around it many times with our dog. Our family enjoyed several days of fall hiking in the area: Lackawanna and Archibald Pothole State Parks and Elk Mountain. Dinner at Oliveri’s was delightful! Delicious food in a warm atmosphere.
Kate was a pleasure to work with. After booking we requested to switch our reservations to a different weekend and she was flexible and accommodating.

Had a Nice Relaxing Stay
The property was clean and comfortable. Some might say the decor could use some updating, but that didn't matter to us. We were there to relax and relax we did. The porch and living room have a nice view of the lake, where you could read or just enjoy the view. Walking along the street was another way to enjoy the lake. We were there in the fall so didn't do any water activities, but there were also chairs by the dock which we sat in for a closer look at the lake. The fall foliage was a bit past peak, but the color around the lake was still pretty good. There were a few good restaurants nearby as well, including one right on the lake. Kate was very helpful with eating suggestions and advice about area amenities. Would certainly consider a return to the area.
