The "Great Escape" is a lovely place for a vacation. Far off the beaten (touristic) path, quiet, peaceful, with a large Pool and a lovely seaside terrace.
Shane is a great cook, we enjoyed those meals so much.

The house was a great place to wake up every morning. The views, the private beach and the pool were all great. We spent our nights on the beach side veranda looking directly at a perfect sunset. The house was clean, area is safe and would stay again. The owner was responsive and easy to coordinate with. Shane the property manager is a good guy, easy to work with, great cook and very help full. Thanks for the make the stay with my dad and friend memorable trip.

and the beach house across the street is icing on the cake. You couldn’t ask for better sunsets, Red Stripe in hand! Mark was super easy to communicate with at all times. Shane was a great cook and conversationalist. He can seriously arrange anything you’d like to eat or do. He was kind and flexible with our early check in and grocery trips. Pansy left the house clean and smelling good each morning and Neville even took us on a tour of the yard with fruit trees and explained some of their uses.
The kayaks were extremely fun and we spent hours hanging out on the small beach and snorkeling just offshore. The pool is huge and was always cool for midday swimming. The AC works perfectly in the bedrooms and each one has a TV. I worked a bit in the evening and didn’t have any trouble connecting nor any Wi-Fi speed issues.
Shane arranged a boat ride to the Pelican Bar where we had fresh snapper with rice and peas that was heavenly. It’s definitely worth a trip with Captain Ted. Treasure Beach proper is a short ride away with shopping and more great food. Recommend Smurf’s for b’fast and Diner Delight for lunch. Calabash was our favorite of the idyllic beaches and Callaloo had nice souvenirs.
Our last day we stopped by the Christmas Eve Market and caught a lovely rainbow over the yard after a short afternoon shower as we said goodbye to a wonderful trip.

From pick up at the airport to seeing the smiling faces of the staff which are fantastic! It's just an overall amazing experience. Nothing more relaxing then sipping a rum punch on your own beach waiting for the boat to pull up and take you down the Black River for lunch at Sister Lou's for crab and a cold Red Stripe. Quick stop at the Pelican Bar and you'll realize your in paradise. The pool is perfect for afternoon cool downs and the property is very well maintained. Mark is always quick with responding to questions and makes things easier then you can imagine. Highly recommend if you are looking for your own little piece of heaven for a week or two.

This was our 1st vacation rental & while it wasn't perfect, we would definitely do it again!
Mark (the host) is very responsive & answered my numerous questions quickly. The staff - Shane (property mgr/cook), Pansy (housekeeper), Neville (grounds keeper) are all wonderful, friendly people. Mark & Shane were accommodating for our late arrival (7pm) and late departure (2pm). Shane is a good cook & didn't even let on when I asked for something unfamiliar. He also went grocery some for us every 3 days or so.
There aren't any keys, but locked gates with keypads to access both the house & the beach side club house. You're in the country, surrounded by nature, so there are bugs and other wildlife. The bug spray we brought didn't help lol. The house is close to the road. Even with the shutters closed and the a/c on, you can hear the trucks & motorcycles. The pool isn’t heated & needs to be repainted but it’s lovely to have a large pool to yourself. The deck/patio area is huge & we dined outside for all of our meals. Even though there’s a breeze, we should have taken a fan outside to divert the mosquitos.
Pros - It's a large space all to yourself. It's your own private resort! All bedrooms have a/c that works very well & their own bathroom (not ensuite, but not a big deal IMHO). The property is wired for sound! We used the wireless speakers by the pool and the beach. The beach club house is very cool!!! With a bedroom (that has a/c & tv), bathroom & bar! There’s even a portable speaker if you want to take it down to the water. This makes the property unique and ideal for a group of friends or a few couples. Sunsets from the club house are beautiful and it’s fun to watch the birds fishing! Cons - The beds were hard for us. I would have liked to have gotten more sun & spent more time on the beach. At the time we were visiting (Jan), the sun wouldn’t reach the pool loungers until 12 pm & beach side, there was a tree partially shading the sun. The tides were high during our visit, so there was no beach to enjoy. The tide would eventually recede, exposing some wet sand. Mark had advised the beach varied in size. Can’t blame Mother Nature and we made the best of our stay by the pool.
If you’re looking for the Ritz or Sandals, this isn’t it. If you can look past the tiny flaws, it’s simply amazing! It was the perfect first experience for us. Thank you Mark for hosting us and thank you Shane, Pansy & Neville for taking care of us!

We stayed at Great escape from 9/12/22-9/19/22 for our honeymoon. The property is well kept and the staff is amazing. We spent our days lounging at the private beech or on the pool deck. Mark our driver was timely in airport transfers and taking us to excursions. The house staff was kind and Shane was absolutely wonderful. He arranged excursions for us as well as cooked the most fabulous meals. We felt like we made wonderful friends. We cant wait to go back in 2023 for our anniversary. Mark ( the owner) was also easy to communicate with!

We travel quite frequently and this is one trip that we will never forget. We are looking forward to our return!

Never want to leave....
This is our second time at Great Escape. I didn’t think it was possible for it to be better than the first time (2015), but it was. I love the staff, the house, the beach, the location.
As I said five years ago, this is the Jamaica you won’t find in a resort. It is wonderful.

The property was lovely. A large patio, pool and private beach. And a skilled cook who loves preparing meals. We enjoyed breakfasts and suppers, we went exploring during the days . The beach waves were awesome. Who could ask for more?

I am never going to be a millionaire but I just spent a week on my own private beach with a full staff so I am getting an idea of what it might be like.
The trip started with our driver, Rambo, picking us up at the airport. He is such a great guy. He knew just where to take us and we headed out to get provisioned. Once we had our needs for libations satisfied he suggested that we head to the Jerk Shack. This is Jamaica at its best. It is on the way to Great Escape and a must stop. We arranged to stop on the way home, it was that good.
Once there, we were greeted by Shane, our majordomo for the week. He had already planned the menu and shopped per our instructions. Another wonderful experience. We were in his hands and it was not long before we got to experience his culinary skills. But not before we ran down to the beach, Red Stripe in hand, to observe the first of many glorious sunsets on OUR OWN PRIVATE FREAKIN' BEACH. There is a bedroom and full bath on the beach with a great deck and outside bar. The sound system is first class. The pool and deck at the house is great but the beach is its own private world. We spent a lot of time down there.
Great Escape is very well situated for local sightseeing. The Treasure Beach community is something the people who populate the all-inclusive resorts will never get to experience; real Jamaicans, some of the nicest people we had the good fortune to meet. But there was so much more, YS Falls, the Appleton distillery and Lovers Leap all put together with Shane and Rambo as our guide. Rambo knows everyone and got us all the VIP treatment. We even stopped by his local watering hole on the way home one day. That was very cool.
The rest of the staff, Pansy and Neville, were friendly but very discrete. The grounds were groomed, the beach and pool were cleaned and the house was always immaculate. I could definitely get used to this.
We are already searching our calendars to book our next trip. I would give Great Escape 6 stars if I could.

The property is absolutely stunning. Beautiful landscaping, beautiful private beach.
It would have been nice to know ahead of time we would be nickel and dimed for everything. I was not happy we spent so much to stay at the villa and had to provide all of our basic living needs. We had to purchase our own toilet paper, ($4 a roll by the way), dish soap and sponges for the cook, household cleaning goods for the cleaning lady, paper towels, even our drinking water. We had to go grocery shopping every 3 days which cost the two of us $170 a trip including $20 to the driver. We tried to talk the cook into not getting so much food so we could save our money for excursions, but this seemed to be an inconvenience for him so our hands were tied. The beds in the bedrooms were so uncomfortable it stated effecting our trip. We would wake up in so much pain because of it. Our trip was supposed to be 10 days but because of American Airlines messing my wife's flights up our trip was cut short by 5 days. It would have been great to receive a partial refund for the villa, but as it was the airlines fault and not the property's fault I do not see this happening.
Minus the negative feedback I provided, it was a great experience overall. Playing on the beach, swimming in the ocean, etc.

Relaxing, fun and Hospitable
We had a great time relaxing at this property. My family loved the beach, kayaks, pool, great food, kind staff. Everything was great!

Would definitely go back again. Despite the fact it’s an old property (not for someone wanting luxurious slick all mod cons) you can very easily relax and the place feels homely and comfortable. The ultimate must-have here is the amazing private beach and beach house with beautiful gardens and total privacy. Golden sand and warm gentle sea. And then there’s Shane who looks after you (& his housekeeping team) - such a charming gentle man (& great chef) who goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need, The internet is pretty erratic so tv programmes are affected but in one way, having peace and quiet ensures you relax with few distractions. Take some food drink and toiletries for your first evening as the shops are a drive away. If you can’t make your own entertainment you’ll need a Rambo ( the driver) or a car if your own (& the roads are bumpy). The staff and owner make sure you have everything you need - beautiful peaceful place to chill

Well Maintained, beautiful property.
The Property owner and Staff do an excellent job. Mark makes sure you know what to expect and the staff takes care of any needs you have during your stay. What ever you want, or where ever you want to go, they are happy to accommodated you. The best part is the true chill factor and private nature of this property. Private Beach, private pool and the scenery is beautiful. There are many things you can go do, however my choice is to hang out and unplug. The Black River Tour with Captain Ted’s team is a good choice and you are picked up in a boat right on your private beach. Sisters Lous is a must stop along the way for the best Crab you can imagine. You will also Enjoy the Pelican Bar. I would say one of the most unique bars in the world. If you want to see “Jamaica”, The Great Escape is the place. Thank you Mark and Staff!

DEFINITELY A GREAT ESCAPE!!!!!!
A truly pampered vacation from the beginning to the end. Mark provided explicit details regarding the Villa and staff as well as sights to see . The Staff provided above and beyond personal attention and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Shane was awesome, not only providing three meals a day at the main home or at the beach house but also fulfilling any other request. Rambo was available to provide transportation at any time. Both Pansy (housekeeping) & Neville (grounds keeper) were very willing to assist with any request we might have had. This was definitely one of the most memorable vacations we've EVER experienced, the beautiful home and beach house on the ocean, the private beach, the kayaking, snorkeling, YS Falls, a boat trip on Black River (pick up is at the beach house), the Pelican Bar and a very unique hike to the extremely unique John Deer museum :) The entire experience is absolutely phenomenal and unforgettable

Truly Paradise
My wife and I did a destination wedding at the villa and it was great. The staff is top notch and the villa itself was perfect. It really felt like a home, not just a hotel. I highly advise going. My wife and I are going back this year to renew our vows.

Unforgettable trip. Already planned on a return trip.
Woke up everyday and said "this is paradise". Wonderful trip. Wonderful place. Wonderful people. My teenage daughters had a wonderful time snorkeling, kayaking and cooking with Shane. It's hard to put into words the beauty of the land and people. Have to go on the black river trip with Captain Ted and first mate Garrett, it's a must. Already scheduled a return trip.

Beautiful place, Great Staff
We arrived in Jamaica and was picked up at the airport by the driver Rambo (excellent driver and the cold beverages was a nice touch), it was a beautiful drive and seen so much of the beauty of the country, the stop at the jerk shack a must, we liked it so much we stopped on the way back to the airport. The house was what I was looking for...my very own paradise for 8 days!! We had a blast on the boogie board, and it was nice having the outdoor shower, and the grounds keeper Nevil kept the place immaculate, everyday there would be fresh water on the top of the steps to get the sand off your feet, again a nice touch!! The beach is very private and the beach bar area is AWESOME!! We even had a dinner served down there, and speaking of the food....Shayne and his wife are amazing cooks and servers!! We arrived to an amazing shrimp dish on our first night and then he sat down with us and took our request ( and we requested to eat Jamaican style, so we pretty much gave him the control, and he did not let us down!!) We tried lots of different foods it was absolutely perfect!! We went on a few excursions with Rambo at the wheel, he was very informative! We also (tried, actually got a ride half way there from the locals) walked to Treasure Beach, and went to Jakes for pizza...took a long time but was worth the wait! Also I would suggest the boat tour, fun way to spend the day, seen dolphins along the way VERY COOL! All in all we had an amazing time, one thing to remember you are very secluded so if you want snacks or beverages get before you go to the house! Also one day the housekeeper (who also did an amazing job) had a friend come to the house to sell us local crafts, got a hand crafted wood fold down fruit bowl, very neat!! Thanks Mark for sharing your piece of paradise!!

Can't say enough about how awesome Great Escape is!
If you want a vacation surrounded by beauty where you can visit a Jamaica that you will never find in a resort, with staff who are kind, genuine and, well, simply wonderful, then this is the place for you. This was our third time in Jamaica, but our first outside of a resort.
Mark (the owner) was great. We actually had to change our dates due to medical issues, and he had no problem with that.
We only went on a few excursions that Shane arranged for us. Highly recommend Captain Ted for a Black River tour with a stop at Sister Lou's and the Pelican Bar. Also did Lover's Leap with a late lunch at Jack Sprats. Rambo did the driving for us.
We definitely plan to come again. Hopefully for our son's college graduation in 2017. Shane said he'd show him fishing Jamaican style. :)

Perfect Birthday Getaway!
My 60th birthday was at the end of December and we spent a wonderful week at Great Escape. What an awesome way to celebrate this milestone. My husband and I met friends on 12/28 at the Jamaica airport and thanks to Mark's tip, we were expedited thru customs by VIP Attractions (the extra $50 was SOOOOO worth it).
The ride to Great Escape was a treat, with Rambo driving and being an entertaining tour guide. We made quick stop at the market in Montego Bay to stock up on snacks and adult beverages and then a stop at Border Jerk for some great chicken. What a wonderful start to an amazing vacation.
The Villa was even better than we expected. Two bedrooms and two baths and a great pool (expertly maintained by Nevil) at the main house and the clubhouse at the beach was PERFECT for watching the sunset!! And Wifi!!!!!
Shane prepared delicious meals for us and his rum punch should be bottled! We took a few (not many) trips to nearby attractions -- Frankly, being at the Villa was so perfect, we really didn't feel the desire to go anywhere.
We did take a boat trip to the Pelican Bar and down the Black River to Sister Lou's......Captain Ted was amazing! The sea was quite choppy, but he navigated the small boat expertly.
Pansy cleaned for us every day and even did some laundry for us.
All and all, the combo of the villa, the staff and the laid back Jamaican culture made for a PERFECT birthday!!!

Wonderful Peaceful Holiday
We stayed at Mark's villa for two weeks and it has been the best holiday we have had in quite a while. The villa itself is in a peaceful location just outside Treasure Beach. The club house on the beach has a bedroom and bathroom which is cute and the fact that they wasn't aircon was not a problem. The staff were more than willing to help with anything you needed. Special thanks to Rambo for all the driving we had loads of trips out to see all sorts of attractions, Rum Factories, waterfalls, spa baths etc and trips into Treasure beach when we fancied a night our from the villa, and to Shaun for the wonderful meals just say what you would like and off Shaun goes and comes back with the receipts and all the ingredients for some wonderful meals, the best by far was the barbecued pork and seeing him club a tree to snap off the dead wood was a sight in itself. The communication with Mark was very easy and fast and the whole process was smooth and trouble free. I would highly recommend Great Escape. Julia Thornton and family. (husband, two grown children and their partners).

Almost perfect
We stayed for one week in early February of this year and had a fantastic time. Everything was as advertised, swimming (sea or pool), Kayaks, view, etc. Mark, the owner, was easy very easy to deal with. And the staff, Rambo, Anne, Shane, etc. were always up to the task. Anne's meals were fantastic. The only slight issue was that the bikes on site were not in service at the time. Other than that, people who aren't used to the tropics need to understand about insects, but we are from Florida, so no big deal. I'll certainly return in the future.

What a Beauty....Unspoiled Jamaica
I visited hello for a short getaway weekend which turned out to a fabulous last minute on Valentines weekend.
It was the day before that we contacted Mark the villa owner to let him know we finally got a flight and we would like to rent his villa. Mark made our experience so awesome and everything ran so smoothly.
The villa itself is beautiful and full of character. The pool and deck with the authentic hammock was most relaxing. The deck had music, modern lounge chairs, and everything you need while daydreaming on the beautiful ocean directly across the street. But it does not end there. Across the street the villa also have a beach house with a one bedroom one bath room directly on the Caribbean ocean...the views are spectacular and ambience is to die for. Pictures doesn't do the villa justice.
The sweetest part was the boat to Pelican Bar picked us up directly from the beach house and we zipped across the ocean to the most awesome drinking spot and seafood hut in the middle of the Caribbean Sea.
The staff was most accommodating...whatever we wanted...they were ready to please. If ever you want to stay a week or just a quick weekend getaway this villa really is the spot for an off the beaten path way experience.

What a place!
The Great Escape is close to perfect. We came as a group of five friends for the Christmas and New Year period and had an amazing time. The accommodation is really well maintained - clean and kept that way by Pansy and Neville who came every morning (including Christmas and New Years Day) to clean and maintain the pool. Shane was looking after us and cooked lovely food, recommended places, went shopping for us and arranged trips. Rambo (and Jayvon - what a dude), along with Brent, were brilliant drivers and showed us some sites of Treasure Beach and surrounding areas that were off the beaten track and that we'd never have experienced on our own. They were very accommodating with our late night return journeys from bars!
The beach house and private beach are the best parts of the house, along with the deck and pool. We looked at other houses in the area and none seemed to come close to The Great Escape in terms of the outside space.
The area is beautiful and the people are amazing. Any worries about safety were gone the second we arrived - the people are so friendly and welcoming.
The location is actually great. It's true that it's quite a long walk to Treasure Beach (at least 45mins) but that didn't pose any problems for us as Rambo or Brent often took us and during the day the walk is lovely if you fancy it.
Loved it. Can't wait to come back.

Family Vacation
After spending a week at Great Escape with our 3 children (4 yr olds and a 18 month old), we can't wait to go back. The travel was not easy with our crew, some long flights then a long car ride (~2 hours from Montego Bay), but once there, it is pardise. The weather was perfect, warm and sunny every day. The location is remote, just beach/pool/walks down the road to see the horses and goats/quick stop into the Cove boutique hotel for a drink. If you like getting away from it all and don't need a lot of stimulus beyond a good book and a nap, you found it. The staff is great, very helpful and accomodating - Ann's meals were very good, hearty local foods and she was very flexible with us. Rambo was very helpful, even bringing sea shells for the kids to take back! The pool and gardens are well taken care of the house is clean. Mark was easy to work with and responsive to questions as I was a little nervous going off the beaten path with the family in tow. If you want a luxurious location with many activities, this is not the place for you, if you want a quiet beach house with a family atmosphere, no distraction - make your reservation! We also visited the town of treasure beach which is very chill - very nice people and not at all intimidating. The beach was nice and had good food at Jack Sprats. YS Falls were nice as well, go early as Ann and Rambo recommend and beat the tourists, kids had fun in the pools there and it was good to get out and see some more of Jamaica. I would definately recommend this location for families, couples, or a group. My wife can't wait to get back on a girls trip.

A Hidden Gem
Really cool place, the pictures don't do it justice. Isolated without being remote, with plenty of space to relax. Helpful staff as well. Had a great time.
