About this cottage rental
Do you like camping but like a little more comfort than what a tent can offer? Would you like to unplug and tune out? Then this is the place for you. Wake up to the sounds of Lobster boats, Osprey, Bald Eagles, Gulls, Terns, Harbor seals, Great Blue Herons, and Loons. Eat dinner on the deck overlooking the bay with spectacular western views of the sunset. These are just a few of the amazing sights and sounds you will experience while “glamping” in this cozy waterfront cottage. This is an island: no car access, no ferry (private boat only), or stores.
The cottage has an open concept living/dining/kitchen area with woodstove (wood is provided). Cathedral ceilings fill the space with plenty of natural daylight. It has 2 bedrooms: Master with Queen bed and a second bedroom with two twin beds. All bedding is provided. There is one bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. Bath towels, toilet paper as well as bath soap and shampoo will be provided. The kitchen has a full size stove and refrigerator (both fueled by propane). All dishes, pots and pans as well as Paper towels, sugar and basic spices are provided. There is a large wrap around deck with canopy and seating for outdoor meals. Outdoor grill and lobster cooker w/propane also provided.
Bring your own boat, kayak/s or sailing craft. Whether you have your own boat or not, the owners will arrange to take you across on checkin/check out day. We will have extra adult life jackets available if needed. However, if you have children in your party they must have Coast Guard approved properly fitted life jackets.
If you trailer your own boat, there is a boat launch ramp in the Harbor that you can use. For an extra fee, 2 deep water moorings -one on the island and one in the harbor are available for off island junkets ($25/day for one or $150/week) or $35/day for both or $210/week) also the use of a small tender is available ($15/day or $100/week-on the island). If you do not have a boat we can provide transportation if we are in residence at our other cottage or provide a listing of local places that rent kayaks.
You will need to plan your meals for your stay and bring your groceries with you. Be sure to bring reusable bags or waterproof containers for groceries. Maine no longer offers plastic bags and paper bags are useless around the water
Since the cottage is located in the woods, with no public utilities, there is no smoking allowed anywhere on the property.
All electricity (Lights only) is Solar (12 volt only). There is a small inverter for limited use of the stereo, and other small devices for limited periods of time. Please bring a (cigarette lighter type or usb) car charger for your cell phone and other mobile devices or computer. You can bring your own hotspot.
The dock is shared with one other home, which is where the owners stay.
Swimming can be done from the private dock or almost any place along the shore, and there is a right of way access to a small beach a short walk from the cottage.
Visit the Old Quarry or take a walk to the island cemetery. There are plenty of walking trails on the island (a map will be provided). Island hopping is one of our favorite things to do, just be respectful of the environment and any private homes.
The Town of Friendship is ideally located under an hour from many local attractions-Pemaquid Lighthouse, Port Clyde and Monhegan Island. It is a short drive to Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor and Wiscasset, just to name a few…
This is the perfect place to sit back, unwind, unplug and get away from all the distractions of everyday life. Great for families or couples looking to get away from it all!

This visit was our fourth to the island and this charming cottage. We loved the views and the serene atmosphere of this little part of the world. Odette is always a gracious host and we look forward to our next visit!

Odette was nothing short of amazing from start to finish. Since the property is only accessible by boat, she picked us up and helped us into the cabin. She walked through the property giving us all the ins and outs and then let us be. My family was able to totally unplug since there was no tv or any distractions and we just enjoyed time together. My daughter even made friends with Odettes grandkids which made the time there even better. I feel that this will become an annual trip for us and I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanted to get away from it all.

My wife and I made the trip to Friendship to elope and were incredibly lucky to have found Odette and her families wonderful cottage. The cottage is extremely cute and comfortable, well equipped, is in an awesome location, and has amazing views off the deck (including some spectacular sunsets). If the amazing cottage and location weren't enough, Odette and her family are genuinely some of the nicest, most accommodating, warm people we have met. My wife and I's elopement plans were unique to say the least, but Odette and her family went out of their way every step of the way, to make our once in a lifetime trip, truly special. They even connected us with some locals to take us out to Eastern Egg Rock to see the puffin colony. I can't recommend this place enough and will be back every opportunity we get.

Absolutely wonderful, perfectly well appointed, slightly 'off the grid' cabin. The island had wonderful trails for morning strolls with our dog before we hit the water and explored Muscongus Bay. So many islands, channels, wildlife to see! Coming back from the water and relaxing on the deck and watching beautiful sunsets was a bonus! Hosts were great and very accomodating. We hope to come back again!

Actually every time is! We enjoyed our end of summer stop at this lovely waterfront cottage again. There were plenty of lovely walks to take on the island and the mainland is only a mile and a half away, easily reachable via kayak, which my husband took advantage of for his runs on the mainland and quick stops at the local Wallace’s store. The view from the deck of the cottage never gets old. I’m so happy our host shares this little spot.

We had an amazing time staying at Odette’s island cabin. We spent the weekend swimming and exploring trails/beaches on this awesome little island. Our dogs had a blast swimming and exploring as well. Odette was the sweetest and her cabin was stocked of plenty of accommodations for those with littles (books/toys, baby gates, booster, highchair). 10/10 best family get away.

I’m hesitant to share my review- because I want to keep this sweet gem all to myself!! This is the perfect getaway- isolated enough to feel removed from busy day to day life, but still with modern conveniences and a quick boat ride back to the mainland. We loved our stay in the cabin- which was well equipped with anything we could need. It was so quiet and peaceful. My family loved sitting on the rocks watching boats and sea life, getting lost on the island trails, and exploring small beaches that we had all to ourselves. Odette was a generous hostess and made coming to her little island paradise very easy. Would definitely recommend staying here to anyone who wants to get off the grid for a bit for a relaxing break.

We had an excellent stay in Odette’s cottage. The house is open and airy. Big windows and a large deck give a gorgeous view of the bay. Everything was super clean and cozy. Odette and her husband were super helpful and friendly. They also helped carry our embarrassing amount of luggage and supplies. We had a perfect mini vacation. Thanks Odette and Bill!

Suzzane great us at the dock and transport us to the Friendship Long Island. Danielle meet us at the home dock and help us carry luggage to the beautiful cottage. They gave us a home tour and the check in process is very smooth!
Suzanne brought us to the lobster wharf, super fresh Maine lobster!
Kayaking in the gulf, fishing mackerel, squid and sea bass, catch crab, saw sea seals, we even see two dolphins chilling in the bay!!!
Best Vrbo experience ever! See you next time!

The cottage was perfect and the veiw was stunning but it was not private. Thought Odette might have mentioned 10 people (inc 4 young children) staying 75 yds away. They were very nice and would have been different if we had children.
Also thought the request to sweep the cottage floors on top of the cleaning fee, pet fee and host fee was a bit much.

The cottage was just right. Comfortable, quiet, and very well equipped. Everything we needed was provided. The VRBO description and brochure provided by the hosts were complete and very helpful. The kitchen had a wide assortment of kitchen tools, pots, and pans, and an unexpected assortment of spices and such. We mainly grilled on the deck. We did not take advantage of the wood stove but it was also ready to go. A very short walk from the cottage to the dock put us and our kayaks in the water. The hosts were friendly and helpful, getting us from the mainland to the island and also giving us a waterborne sightseeing tour around the island. We are only there three days, a week or more would be great.

We love it!
This was the second summer we spent time at this gorgeous property! It's a special place indeed! Unplugging in a place with stunning views and walking trails can't be beat. My children love jumping and swimming off the dock and playing endless rounds of cards. We're so grateful to Odette & family for sharing this gem!

Excellent cabin
Wonderful weekend at this cabin on an island off of Friendship Maine. The Description, location, weather, the water, privacy, the care takers especially Odette were all great. The cabin was perfect, neat, clean, everything you need to have a perfect stay on a secluded island.
Our puppy and 8 year old also loved it!
We hope to do it again next year!
Thanks Odette!

Unique Stay in a Peaceful Setting
Our visit to the island was very special. We spent a week there at the end of August as a family vacation. The cabin is cozy and simple, yet thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed for a fun and relaxing week of swimming, water play, exploring and relaxing peacefully on the deck or next to the woodstove.

Island paradise
If you are looking for a quiet place with amazing views to just relax and catch up with the ones you love, this is a perfect place. I visited this property with my husband and two adult children. We put our devices away and just spent time together. We all enjoy a coastal view and nature, so this was the perfect mix. I was able to do a ton of writing while we were there, as the space was inspiring and grounding. We explored the island on it’s magical paths and sat for many hours on the deck overlooking the water. We brought our kayak and enjoyed paddling around the island and to and from the mainland (mostly my husband did this.) The cottage was clean, very comfortable, and well stocked with all we needed (we just needed to supply our own food) and we didn’t mind the extra care needed for the compost toilet or environmental issues (like composting food or making as little garbage waste as possible) of staying on an island. We appreciated the untouched beauty of this place and treasured the sharing of it. Our host and her family were all so friendly, we were so grateful for them and we sure hope to make it back to this special place again!

Magical spot-amazing for Kayakers
My husband and I have been coming to the Muscongus Bay/Friendship area for many years as it's a beautiful and a great area for any level of sea kayaker. We really liked the location on Friendship Long Island and the solitude. The property is a great jumping off point for many great kayaking destinations. Odette and Bill were extremely accommodating hosts and super helpful getting us and our personal gear and kayaks to and from the island. I can't recommend their hospitality enough. The cabin itself is super comfortable, with a very comfy bed, and set up really well with everything under the sun to facilitate great cooking. It is an off the grid property as advertised and isn't meant to replace a resort hotel experience. If you have reasonable mobility and want to stay somewhere special this is the place for you!

The view, especially the sunsets, cannot be beat in this adorable Maine island cottage.

Lovely, oceanfront getaway off-the-grid
Clean, quiet, cozy, light, bright cottage right on the ocean/harbor. We truly enjoyed our stay "off-the-grid". If you are looking to unplug (literally), this is the place for you.

A fabulous no-electronics get-away
I chose this property specifically because I wanted my kids to spend time away from their phones and gaming. While there is limited cell signal, for the most part the kids spent our vacation hiking, exploring, playing by the bay, reading, board games, puzzles, and creating art. Odette surprised us with a boat trip around the island which turned out to be one of the highlights - especially seeing the wild seals! The adults enjoyed coffee or wine on the deck, and watching the sunsets over the bay. The night sky is simply breathtaking. As we got ready to leave, my 13 y/o said "that was a lot more fun than I expected!" Success!
The cabin itself felt very clean, tidy, and cozy. We found there was generally enough electricity for charging our phones and using one or two lights for a few hours in the evening. The kitchen is well stocked (consider bringing your own sharp kitchen knife). The wood stove provides ample heat when needed and also serves as a gathering place to watch the fire in the evenings. The beds felt clean and comfortable. There is a compost toilet which is also very clean and easy to use. Plan to take quick showers mid day at high sun for the hot water.
We left the island 2-3 times over the course of our two week stay in order to restock groceries, eat lobster, and explore the surrounding towns. It was easy to schedule this ahead of time with Odette.
Overall it was a fun, relaxing trip and my family would all be excited to return!

Wonderful Quiet Place to Recharge
My husband and two children stayed at Odette's property and had an absolutely lovely stay. It was a wonderful place to unplug and just have some slow days together. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. My children are 9 and 7 and loved jumping off the dock and swimming in the ocean, reading on the rocks and playing games in the cabin. It was perfect. We did a lot of planning to make sure we had all the food we needed, and found the composting toilet or solar power simple to use. Odette and her family were very welcoming, and even took us on an extra boat ride to go to the town dock for lobsters. They shared their very special place with us, and we could not be more grateful! We hope to make this a regular part of our summer in the future!

Stress Free Holiday
We had a very relaxing stay at the cabin. Odette and Bill, as well as their niece, Danielle, were courteous, helpful and friendly. The facilities were perfect and the view is amazing. We had all our meals on the deck, spent the evenings relaxing by the woodstove and enjoying the quiet. It is truly off the grid. We enjoyed the break from technology and the hectic pace of the outside world. The cabin sits in eyesight of about 5 cabins all of which are relatives of the owner. They are connected by footpaths, There is always help nearby. If you plan to explore further on the island, keep in mind that the ground is very spongy and mossy and there is no easy route to the main trails from the cabin. We would absolutely return to this peaceful getaway!

Vacationland at it's best
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Friendship Long Island. Odette and Bill were wonderful hosts and answered any questions that we had. They were happy to share the joys of their island home and their years of knowledge of the island and the area. The cottage was very comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped with more supplies than we would ever need. The only thing missing was wine glasses. The cottage is located in the woods with a beautiful view of the ocean. We started every day with coffee on the deck and ended with cocktails watching the sunset. We can't wait to get back to the coast of Maine.
