About this house rental
--LAST MINUTE CANCELLATION: Cut rate for July 6-13 ($686/night)
-- 1910 Shore house; only one surviving the 1938 hurricane on this stretch of beach. Immense lot, gorgeous beach, dunegrass-covered dunes, very private. House is large, with basic amenities. Ideal for the writer and artist.
-- After your swim, towel off and stroll up the sandy path to the porch. Later, enjoy the sunset from the top of one of our dunes. There's no other property like this in Old Saybrook or maybe even all of Connecticut!
--PLEASE NOTE: Generally available for 7 day rentals only (Saturday to Saturday) during summer and shoulder periods. Sometimes available for shorter periods (minimum 3 days), if doesn't overlap with two 7-day rental periods, or at short notice (less than a month, if not otherwise rented). Shorter periods accepted for off-season (before mid June, after mid September.) If you are interested in a shorter period, please contact the owner. Not available November through April.
-- Old Saybrook has a convenient Amtrak stop on the Boston-NY line, is just off I-95 between New Haven and New London. The stop is 3 miles and an easy UBER/LYFT ride from the house.
-- Large shaded porch behind our private dunes, with path leading to our private beach. At end of dead-end road. Google Earth: 41o 16' 38.97' N and 72o 24' 26.54' W
-- Four bedrooms upstairs (two overlooking the Long Island sound), large living room/dining room area downstairs + kitchen.
-- Unheated, so only available for summer or late spring/early fall rentals.
--Please be advised that this is a century-old vacation cottage with used furniture, sometimes flakey appliances, and perhaps a lump or two in the mattress. It is unheated, and so May & late September can be quite cold; the cottage is not available in the winter months. The shower and bathroom facilities may strike some as primitive. We like it this way -- it's cozy, comfortable, and laid back. But if you strongly prefer, say, the Hilton to camping, this is unlikely to be your cup of tea. Email us for a brochure with more pictures.
-Occupancy is limited to 10 persons. By renting this property, you agree to the rules given below for its use.
-- Please consult VRBO calendar for availability this calendar year.

Everything was beautiful - truly a one of a kind property, rustic & charming. Plenty of toys in the garage for the kids. The ease of having the private beach steps away can't be beat. Communication with host was responsive & easy throughout the entire process. Everyone from the 2 year olds to the adults made great memories this week. Can't wait to come back!

We stayed Memorial day weekend and arrived on Friday afternoon. The cottage is so cute and exactly as described. It has everyrhing needed for a comfortable stay. This weekend was unusually -extremely cold. We were able to buy firewood and use the fireplace all weekend and it added to the comfortable feel. My small children loved the beach, house was very safe and clean, and overall it was just a lovely place to spend our weekend. Hoping to be able to book a warmer weekend or week again.

The family had a great long weekend at the beach in Old Saybrook! Stepping off the back porch onto the beach is as good as it gets. We all look forward to going back ! Thank you again

My heart has always been at home at this cottage. It has everything my family and I need to make for a very enjoyable stay: beach, swimming, water activities and basic amenities. What it does for me the most is the moment I step on the sand near the back porch, walk through the kitchen door and go out the frontdoor to see and hear the Sound, my heart is at home.

The cottage was fabulous, large open spaces, lots of room for family and friends. Beautiful view of the ocean from two of the bedrooms upstairs and a large porch with comfortabe chairs to sit back and relax. The sunsets were amazing, the dunes gave privacy. We picked the best week, just before most schools were out and that made the beach very open. We went kayaking almost every day. The children loved hunting for shells and didn't seen to mind that the water was a bit chilly this early in the summer.

Straight out of a romance novel. Upon entering the house, my 23 year old son expressed that he was overwhelmed with the thought that this property was nothing less than a true "treasure." He immediately proclaimed it the best house on all the shoreline. It's beauty is magnified by the warm cozy feeling of simpler days gone by, but the house is far from lacking in any amenities. Even in all its simplicity, it provides all the necessities of daily living that could ever be needed to enjoy a fabulous getaway. The owner proves to be a gracious host and has the home fully stocked the house with every trinket and tool that could ever be needed on any vacation......... from numerous tables, chairs, pillows and family games right down to an ice-cream scoop, cork screw and matches on the fireplace. No need to worry if you forget to bring something. It's already there! The furnishings were quaint and elegant to appeal to the true eclectic heart, and the beds................contrary to an earlier post.................were "Oh Ssooooo............ comfortable!" One of the best night's sleep we ever had on a trip. The whole house speaks volumes of warm hearts, happy family gatherings, and just plain overall good times. We will definitely be going back again, and again!!!

The cottage provided a comfortable, relaxing space for a family celebration in early September. The four bedrooms easily accommodated nine guests. Between the large rooms and outdoor spaces, we never felt crowded. The vintage furnishings, the sandy beach, and the waves' ebb and flow contributed to sense of simpler times. The cottage is ideal for those who appreciate the rustic over the luxurious.

The beach house location is excellent. But the house interior needs to be greatly updated especially all the bedrooms very outdated and not comfortable at all. The matresses are very poor and the upstairs furniture needs to be given away. outdoor shower needs works not very clean. This beachhouse needs to be updated from top to bottom. Over-all if the owners would put alittle bit of money anf TLC this beach house would be great.
