The Neighborhood:
Flamingo is a high-end beachfront community notable for its dazzling ocean views and the beautiful, hilly peninsula that juts out into the Pacific, separating Playa Potrero from Playa Flamingo.
Flamingo is home to a wide array of stunning homes and vacation rentals, as well as humbler lodging options, and it has restaurants, grocery stores, banks and other conveniences.
A brand-new, state-of-the-art marina opened to the public in 2022, with slips for yachts and fishing boats, condos for rent and all kinds of shops and restaurants. Other major developments here include the 360 Splendor del Pacifico luxury condominiums on top of the North Ridge, the Margaritaville Beach Resort, and the upscale Mar Vista housing development, where there’s an excellent private school called La Paz.
Good restaurants in town include the Coco Loco, a beachfront eatery known for its coconut drinks and standout cuisine; Marie’s, a reliable standard with a long and enticing menu; Angelina’s, featuring fine Italian dining in an elegant environment; and several options at the Margaritaville, including the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill.
Flamingo was largely developed by foreigners, and it lacks the traditional Costa Rican downtown with a soccer field plaza, church and school. The heart of town is an upscale commercial plaza with stone steps, fountains, restaurants and shops. Farther away on the road to Brasilito, you’ll find smaller restaurants, hotels, banks, hardware stores and the Super Massai grocery store.
Flamingo is more or less the centerpiece of a beautiful coastline stretching from the Reserva Conchal resort in the south to the Las Catalinas resort in the north, with the more traditional Costa Rican towns of Brasilito and Potrero in between. Flamingo is within easy striking distance of several beaches, including Conchal, Flamingo, Potrero, Penca, Prieta, Pan de Azucar and Danta.
Getting Around:
Our agents will be happy to assist you with renting a car, giving you the freedom to explore the area where you want, when you want. For short drives to nearby towns or beaches, golf carts are another popular mode of transportation. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around in town or beyond.
We can arrange transfers to and from the airport. Rental cars can also be delivered to your property at no additional cost, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenery as our private van drives you here from the airport.
Taxis are available but can be a bit hard to find. Many locals use buses to get around, though there are a limited number of routes and times of day when you can catch them. Private shuttles can be a great option for traveling to nearby destinations, and many tour companies offer transportation to and from the tour. Our information brochure will provide you with useful information on local transportation options and points of interest, as well as contact information for taxis and shuttles.
Other Things to Note:
Special Places of Costa Rica is committed to protecting our properties and keeping up-to-date with short-term rental regulations, which is why you will be asked to complete our independent verification. Before your stay begins, you will need to verify your details with us to complete your booking. You will be contacted via email and/or text to complete the verification. You will also be given the choice between paying a refundable deposit or buying a non-refundable damage waiver. We suggest you buy the damage waiver as this protects you in case you cause accidental damage during a booking.

Stunning ocean views, spacious bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, and a beautiful infinity pool make this property perfect for a family vacation. Outstanding concierge services and helpful staff. Highly recommended!

The best thing about this house is the view! The pool was amazing, and the home is centrally located to everything you want to do in Playa Flamingo. We rented two golf carts, which made getting around town very easy.
Our group was three couples. All bedrooms had king beds (which were quite comfortable) & ensuite bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are outside the main house, so if you have kids, that could be a problem. The bedrooms off the courtyard and has no view.
While the house is lovely and has recently been freshly painted, if you read through the other reviews, the owner has not spent any time addressing the concerns noted. The kitchen is very dated as are the pots, pans, knives, glasses etc.. Additionally, the linens (specifically the bath towels) were scratchy and old.
To save frustration an instruction book that reviews basics such as:
• How to operate the quirky plumbing
• How to operate the intercom/door buzzer
• Where to put your trash as it fills up
• Which of the 5 different keys goes to what door
The people at Special Places were responsive to all our concerns. They were also very helpful at planning excursions (zip line/ATV, Deep Sea Fishing, etc..), arranging golf carts, restaurant reservations and airport transfers.
We had a wonderful time and Playa Flamingo is a lovely small town. We highly recommend Coco Loco on the beach for great meals, cocktails and sunsets (we went 3 times). Amigos Tacos & Beer at the bottom of the hill is great for a casual lunch!

Overall good, few flaws, outdated kitchen master bath unusable, linens could have been nicer.

This villa was absolutely amazing and perfect for our family. The views were spectacular and the location was very peaceful. We hope to return soon!

The house was very well-equipped for our family of 6. Generous-sized bedrooms, comfortable linens and towels, just about everything needed in the kitchen. A/C in all the bedrooms and the kitchen/living room, TONS of ceiling fans. Being a rental, it did show some signs of wear, but nothing that would steer us away if we were to travel there again. Outdoor shower didn’t work at all, 2 other shower handles were “fussy”. A few light bulbs were out. The house must have been undergoing some type of repainting. Most of the colorful walls with art in the listing photos were painted white and wall hangings were removed. Property manager was very responsive. I definitely recommend this rental.

Beautiful property and views!
Our family greatly enjoyed the house and the location can’t be beat. It had all amenities we needed to enjoy the house and beach… water toys, plenty beach towels, kitchen well furnished, plenty of board games and cards to enjoy at night or when it rained. You can enjoy the view from the patio and still hear the surf crashing below. Very close to good restaurants and to the marina for excursions. I do recommend renting a golf cart though - the house is close to beach and shops but it’s very steep hills and challenging physically. We rented one on the spot after the first time walking to/from restaurant.

This was a beautiful home for our family vacation. It was the perfect amount of room for 8 adults. The views and location were awesome! Juan Carlos from Special places took such amazing care of us and all our needs! Anything that needed repair was takin care of ASAP! We had an amazing time and will definitely come back!

Great Location and Pool
Just stayed at Villa Bourgainvillea for 10 days on a getaway with 2 families and 8 people total (4 adults, 2 teenage kids, 2 young children).
House is in pretty good condition overall, could use some updating of a few things: linens, pillows, mattresses, kitchen, kitchen wares and utensils. The bedrooms are good sized, have their own full ensuite, 3 of 4 have ocean views, but not a great setup for people with younger kids - 2 of 4 bedrooms are not connected to the main house and have to be accessed by going outside.
By far the best thing about this Villa is the proximity to the beach, and the outdoor space/pool area. The beach is about a 2-3 minute drive, and while it is walkable in 15-20 minutes, the hill coming back up is a long and steep stretch in 35° Celcius weather. The pool is great. Clean, good size - 8 of us in the pool didn’t feel cramped, and the pools guys came 3 or 4 times to clean/maintain. There were 4 lazy deck chairs, and lots of other outdoor furniture. We spent the majority of our time by the pool so having the outdoor sitting capacity was important.
Special Places Property Management was tough to get a hold of. A few times we had to go into the office before anyone would respond to requests and get back to us with answers about questions for the house. The lines up transportation to and from the airport and that was a huge help.

Great property, needs some maintenance
We were a group of 6 adults. The property is gorgeous and centrally located. We enjoyed the stay but there are a few maintenance issues which we also expressed to the property manager.
The property is well appointed and has a fully equipped kitchen including a nice array of spices and cooking tools. The property is very clean and has stunning views.
Be prepared to fumble among multiple keys because for some reason the locks have not all been keyed the same and you will need about 5 different keys to access various areas of the house.
The biggest issue for us was the courtyard suite. It was completely unusable to us due to the foul sewer like smell emanating from the plumbing. This smell was solely confined to this suite. The property managers “fix” was to leave the a/c blasting. It took 3 of the 5 days we were there for the smell to somewhat dissipate.
The second biggest issue was the shower faucet for the upstairs suite. The handles are lovely but because of their design people have abused them while trying to turn on the water. This has resulted in the handle being broken and you have to mangle about to find the hot water because the handle just continues to spin.
Additionally the outside shower for the pool does not work which from previous posts has been a continual problem and has not been addressed.

Best vacation of our lives!
Villa Bougainvillea exceeded our wildest expectations! Our family of 4 (kids 19 and 17) and my sister and her 3 kids (22, 17 and 14) spent a week at this beautiful home. It was even better than we had hoped for! We did excursions every morning and spent the afternoons and evenings in the pool laughing and playing Marco Polo like we were all 8 years old! The view of Playa Flamingo from the house is breathtaking. If I had to list any complaints (can't really even call them that.. this is really being nit-picky), they would be that we needed more paper towel, some cleaning supplies and a dish brush to keep the kitchen clean. We expected to buy food, but not those types of things.
This was our second trip to Costa Rica, and it won't be our last. Thank you to Special Places of Costa Rica for all of the excellent excursions that were planned... the ATV tour, zip lining and surfing were so much fun! We'd probably skip snorkeling next time... the water isn't super clear (not dirty at all, just not the turquoise water you need to see lots of fish) and with there not being any reefs, there weren't a lot of fish.
HIGHLY recommend this house. It was perfection!

Great House and Amazing Concierge Service
Great house with wonderful pool and incredible view overlooking the bay and beach. The house is actually better than the pictures if that is possible. Very well laid out and first-class in all regards. Olver and the team at "Special Places of Costa Rica" made everything seamless with wonderful concierge services. They helped coordinate everything from grocery shopping, excursions, catamaran/snorkling trip, golf cart rentals, and transportation to and from the airport. The golf carts were perfect for access to the beach and local bars/restaurants. We would definitely rent this home again.

Spectacular Views a true work of art.
We traveled to Costa Rica as a group of 5 friends. The set up of the house was perfect. The pool was large and allowed for lounging, swimming and the most amazing views. The interior of the home is a work of art. The natural wood furniture, the owners personal artwork and the design is amazing. The location of the property is also great. The walk to the beach was a challenging one - if you have issues with hiking I would recommend that you rent a car, the home has a garage and that worked out perfect for our group. The small bodega store at the bottom of the hill was perfect for incidental supplies and beverages. There is a larger grocery store about a mile or two away for larger shopping trips. We weren't notified that there would be maid service mid week, and that there were landscapers on a few of the days. It caught us a bit off guard but they were very professional and kind. Instructions on how to use the stereo sound system would have helped as we saw outside speakers but could not get it to work. Special Places provided us Phem to help coordinate everything and I can tell you she is wonderful. Even directing us to a local fish market that we would have never found - delicious. The catamaran tour she suggested on the Lazy Lizard was spectacular. The crew were amazing and the sighting of mating sea turtles, pods of dolphins, the hump back whale and the snorkeling trip being able to touch a puffer fish thanks to Luis. This vacation was just what we needed. We would return to this property and definitely use Special Places again for future travel. Thank you to the owners of this property for sharing it with us.

Bit of Paradise
The property was as advertised and perfect for our group. We used three of the four bedrooms. We were all comfortable and all were master suites as advertised.
The common areas were very comfortable. We spent a great deal of time on the back patio and in the pool. The outdoor shower did not work and we did not report it. No big deal. The infinity pool was delightful and we spent a great deal of time in it and enjoying the view from there.
We felt very safe in the area, but the house was gated and alarmed. We never felt uncomfortable in that regard. One negative: In a house of this magnitude, not sure why there were 10 different keys to open doors and gates. Some were marked and some were not. Get some lock work done and get it down to 2-3 keys.
We had a chef come in on two different nights. The kitchen was stocked with utensils and everything needed for our use and for the chefs. I mean, everything was there.
We could not say enough good things about Special Places of Costa Rica. Phem was excellent on the front side. Alonso was very accessible to our every need and quickly responded to anything at any time. Would highly recommend them wherever you may rent.

Villa Bougainvillea
This is a top notch property, well decorated with comfortable beds. The view of the Pacific from the infinity pool is magnificent and you can enjoy your poolside time in the sun or shade while beautiful birds flit about. The glass doors are large and wonderful, but take some time to figure out their working which is not standard. The local Raccoons will come in and wreak havoc while you are away if a door is left a bit ajar. The electrical switches were poorly thought out and you spend a bit of time walking about trying to cut things on or off.

Amazing views and great staff to give us info for our stay!
Our stay at the home was more than we imagined. The home was awesome and the pool was amazing to be at any time of the day. The location was close to restaurants but quiet enough to enjoy some downtime. We would for sure come back to this home!

Paradise!
Best family vacation ever! We were there for a week with 5 adults and 3 kids, and there was more than enough room for all. The bedrooms were spacious, the king sized beds were comfy and it was nice that every room has its own bathroom. The pool and patio for shade was perfect for all ages. (The view!!!!!) Phem and Alonso were always ready to answer any questions (patiently as well!) and super helpful with golf cart rental and booking excursions. (Highly recommend getting a golf cart, the hill to and from the beach is quite steep!) We did 2 excursions, a catamaran snorkeling and sunset cruise with The Lazy Lizard that was fantastic (the crew went above and beyond!) and a waterfall/bridge/volcano with AdvenTours that was amazing! (Ask for Goose, he was fun and extremely knowledgeable) All that said..... the view from the infinity pool is the BEST part of this villa, truly breathtaking!!!! We all can’t wait to come back! Pura Vida!

Breathtaking views
The home was lovely and the views were breathtaking. The beach and restaurants are within walking distance. Playa Flamingo has everything you need, but it is much more low key than Tamarindo. Which we liked. Alfonso was quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. Check in was easy.
We did feel rushed with check out, which is suppose to be 11:00am but the maid service showed up at 8:00 while we were eating breakfast and trying to finish packing our belongings, and started cleaning around us.
Otherwise highly recommended property with tons of excursions and an awesome beach nearby.

Amazing experience.
Went to Costa Rica to enjoy a birthday week with my family. There were 3 couples total coming in from 2 different cities. I mention this because the service of Special Places staff, specifically Phem was spectacular, and when I speak of this later I want to make sure they get full credit. The house is exactly as explained, looks and is as described as it really is. Beautiful views and is exactly what you think of in a Costa Rica villa. Well maintained and cared for and the indoor outdoor living is spectacular. Location is wonderful, the small local town has everything you need from small grocery stores to restaurants to beaches to gelato stand. If you don’t find what you want go another mile down the road and there is another group of restaurants and stores to get supplies at. I believe the service was the real difference maker from the 15 or more places we have rented through Home away over the years. My family came in from two different locations and our our flights were delayed. Phem had arranged our ground transportation to pick us up at airport when our 2nd plane arrived which was a 3pm. One of our flights got delayed till 10:30pm. I contacted Phem and she arranged a second transport for our late group, responding to my request within an hour of setting it up while we were stuck in airports. She also arranged for the first sister to get the keys and check In before the arrival of the primary guest, so they could begin enjoying the house while they waited for us. Phem arranged golf carts for 4 days of our trip and a 4 wheel drive for the second part of our trip. She arranged delivery and pick up of the vehicles including confirmation and everything. I would recommend staying with the golf carts the entire time next time we go down. We used the car to go to the volcano, and explore a few towns further away, but ultimately we could have taken tours of this instead. For sure get golf carts as they are the best way to get around the 3 closest towns. Phem arranged for us to have some grocery delivery to house prior to arrival so we wouldn’t have to shop the second we got to villa. And finally when the rental car pick up was late and our airport shuttle was already there and waiting she verified the car pick up for us. Phem and special places did an amazing job. Rent this villa and use there services you won’t regret it. Pura Vida!

Amazing!
Simply an amazing trip! Four couples shared the Villa, and it was the best vacation I have ever had! The house is everything it was advertised to be, and we loved it! Special Places of CR was really great. All personnel were friendly and helpful. The area is really quiet and peaceful and everyone is so kind and gentle. It was our first time to Costa Rica, but we will be returning many times after this trip!

Perfect villa in the middle of everything.
Our party of 8 adults recently had the pleasure of staying at this Villa in April of 2019. It was perfect! The room, the privacy, the views!!!!! I can’t say enough. Phem and Special Places took care of everything we needed, and I mean everything. From a new propane tank for the BBQ, a new coffee maker, excursions, golf carts....... everything. If you can, ask for Gonzo (Heiner) for your tour guide, the dude is awesome! I highly recommend staying here if your in the Playa Flamingo area. An easy golf cart ride up to Playa Potrero or down to Playa Brasilito you have plenty of options to eat, drink, and explore right in your back yard.
One warning to consider or be aware of. The hill that the house sits on is better with a golf cart. Can get quite tiring hiking up and down all the time.

What are the ABCs of a Great Vacation? An Awesome, Beautiful and Captivating Villa
Our family of 7 were so very fortunate to stay at Villa Bourgainvillea 4 in Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica for 8 days in February 2019. We had 5 adults and 2 children ages 5 and 7 that thoroughly enjoyed all that Villa Bourgainvillea and the communities around Playa Flamingo had to offer. Our family travels every year in February to a tropical location and our stay in Costa Rica at Villa Bourgainvillea was second to none. It surpassed our expectations!
The villa is absolutely beautiful, with so much living space both inside and out. The views of Brasilito Bay and Playa Flamingo took our breath away! We opened up the entire house with the large fold-away doors to create a flow though living area from the pool to the living room, dining, kitchen areas. The ceiling fans and the the ocean breezes kept us cool and comfortable even with the temps in the mid 90s during the day. The 4 bedrooms, each with separate baths, gave everyone privacy and personal space. The pool was so large and the patio surrounding it is enormous, offering shade and sun to meet everyone’s preference. The kids and adults spent many hours in and around the pool soaking up the warm Costa Rican sun!
Our tours/excursions took us to waterfalls, volcanos, rainforests, plantations, rivers (with an abundance of wildlife from crocs to monkeys). A beautiful sailing cruise took us up and down the coast with stops for snorkeling and beach time. Our transportation/tour drivers were exceptional- very knowledgeable and with so much personality! We had such a GREAT time!
We ate some meals at the villa every day, and had beverages and snacks available ALL day. In the evening, the restaurants around Playa Flamingo provided us with delicious menu selections that made everyone happy!
The villa itself and the concierge services of Special Places is set up to create an exceptional vacation in Costa Rica! Phem and her team provided the best concierge services we have experienced in all our travels. She and her team arranged transportation to and from the airport, the rental car (delivered to the villa), 3 tours/excursions of our choice and groceries delivered to the villa (to get us by the first day of our stay). Phem kept in touch with us when our plane was delayed both coming and going from Costa Rica, providing excellent service to accommodate for our delays.
The people we met were so friendly, warm and welcoming. We will, without a doubt, be returning to Costa Rica. Pura Vida!!

Awesome, Beautiful and Captivating Villa
The beautiful sailing cruise took us up and down the coast with a stop for snorkeling and beach time. Our transportation/tour drivers were exceptional- very knowledgeable and with so much personality! We had such a GREAT time!

Living the Good Life
We really enjoyed the property it was truely beautiful with the views it provided. I would have the plant that covered the archway really trimmed back as the bluish flowers came down in buckets and gets messy. Other than that its fantastic. We were lucky we got most of our planned events done inspite of morning and afternoon/evening rains. October is not the best month. This is not the properties fault.

Beautiful!
Villa Bougainvillea was absolutely amazing! The views were incredible and we loved the town of Flamingo. Special Places did a wonderful job arranging our transportation and excursions. They also made some wonderful recommendations in regards to activities, restaurants etc.
We did encounter a few difficulties with the house such as breakers tripping, loose shower handles etc. All were minor and quickly attended to by Special Places when reported. Overall an incredible vacation and incredible villa! We will be back! I wish I was there now!

Breathtaking views and amazing villa
A group of 6 of us stayed at Villa Bougainvillea from Feb 5th-12th and were all taken aback with the beauty of this Villa. The owners have done a fabulous job with all of the details and you can tell that a lot of thought went into this villa when they were building it. The rooms each have their own bathrooms and are very spacious as is the whole villa. The infinity pool overlooking Playa Flamingo was incredible, we spent a lot of our time in it.
My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Denio when we first arrived and he made us feel right at home and was kind enough to take the time to show us around his lovely home. Denio, you and your wife did an amazing job when you built your home, thank you again for sharing it with us, we really appreciate it.
A special thanks to the property management team at Special Places of Guanacaste, Phem, Roy, Jesus, Kenny. They are all so nice and are always available to help with any of your needs. This is our second year back to the Playa Flamingo area and have only used Special Places to rent our villas. They have also been very helpful in arranging transportation to and from the airport, arranged Chef services and set us up with tours. It's great to have a one stop place that can help you with all your needs especially when you're not familiar with the different services available to you during your stay.
We would highly recommend Bougainvillea if you are looking to spend a week in Paradise.

Review of Villa Bourgainvillea in Costa Rica
The house was as spectacular as the photos relay. We loved the infinity pool, the view from our villa was spectacular; the bedrooms were all like private suites with individual bathrooms and walk-in closets; and the main living/dining/kitchen area just beautiful. The services offered from Special Places was great, with immediate response to minor issues we had in the home. The location in Flamingo Beach, just a short (albeit downhill) walk to the beach enabled daily sunset watching. It was as they say in Costa Rica, pura vida!

Picture Perfect!
We recently stayed at Villa Bougainvillea and had a wonderful stay. Phem and the staff at Special Places were terrific to work with, very accommodating and took care of any questions or needs we had.
There were 8 of us and the house had plenty of space for everyone. The best thing about the house was the picturesque view of the ocean!
We also hired a fantastic chef (Estefania), to make breakfast for us a few mornings - she made lunch for our fishing trip and prepared the fish the next day. I would highly recommend her!
I would definitely recommend this house and hope we make it back to stay again!

Missing the "attention to detail"
Pictures make it look larger then it actually is and its a bit outdated. But as far as 5 star, no can do.
CLEANLINESS - 2
Fans are loaded with dust, bath mats are old and gross, and you need shower shoes, for sure. I know they don't ever sanitize it,
(very slimey).
Back stairs to the upper room are not cared for/very dirty, or at least not the week we were there. My mom actually washed them before we had guest for dinner.
Spider webs in most rooms, bedrooms smell old and musty.
The master bdrm (green) has a strong urine smell, quite awful, my mother let the management know, and their response was, "that we only paid for the basic cleaning." WHAT??? We have never heard of anything like this, they didnt even come to the house to see what the concern was. The office is 200 ft away.
POOL - 4
Very nice, tile could use scrubbing (a little slimey)
VIEW - 5
It really has a beautiful view, that's the best part of the house.
LOCATION - 3.5
Playa Flamingo is a pretty sleepy town, everything closes 9:30/10. From the house, you can take a short cut to the beach, where there is one hotel, one beach restaurant/bar. (10 minute walk) Other then that, you need a car. Dont miss dinner or you will have to drive to Tamarindo to eat.
CUSTOMER SERVICE - 3
The response to the urine complaint was unacceptable.
Also, make sure you ask for an inventory sheet when you check in, we got charged for 13 mix match glasses for $50. What we would do with 13 mix match kitchen glasses, Im not sure. That was a bunch of bullshit but it's a foreign country and some things you just can't fight, like a US top of the line property.
So, bottom line, if your looking for a 5 star VIEW, and not worried about the rest, this is for you.
BUT if you expect a lot from a 5 star villa, like you should, go elsewhere.

PERFECT!!!
This property is incredible! It truly is as it is described and the pictures do not do it justice. If you are considering renting this home do it! You will not be disappointed.
If you are looking for some good ice cream, head down to the plaza area just outside Marie's restaurant (great breakfasts!). There is a family who makes homemade ice cream and adds different liquors to it, that is so delicious! They do have some for kids as well.
We will definitely try to return to this property again soon!

Can't lose with that view!
We were 6 adults and 2 kids staying for two weeks in this amazing house. We rented at the end of the rainy season (beginning of December) and had a few days of rain and clouds, but that didn't even matter with the huge covered outdoor living area in this house.d
There are a few cosmetic issues with the house that should be fixed - the kitchen sink is concrete and has a big (saucer size) chunk of concrete missing and because its green it just doesn't look clean. The water in CR is high in calcium so the washer and dishwasher are full of calcium scale - it didn't really affect if they worked or not, but don't look great.
We had only one issue, with the ice maker, but they were VERY quick to come and fix it for us and very responsive to any inquiries.
The view and outdoor space in this home MORE than made up for the few cosmetic issues - so much so that we're hoping to book it again for 2 weeks next year. You can't beat the location and space wise it really worked for us.

Thank you Special Places...Amazing Family Vacation
Villa Bouganvillea is Gorgeous! My family and I chose this home from many others we viewed online. What drew our attention at first look....the entry way/bouganvillea, open living areas/bedrooms/natural rock showers/shell sinks in master/the doors that open to view the amazing infinity pool/Flamingo Beach views/gourmet kitchen/circular stairs leading to upstairs bedroom/rock entry waterfall. What you don't see online are the intriguing tiki masks/cultural framed linen "wraps" - beautiful!!! We loved the pool and the ocean view - felt like you can touch the ocean, you feel so close. The sunrises/sunsets - more breathtaking than one can put in words - up daily to see sunrise/beach walk. Roy, with Special Places, was the first person we met to give us keys/house information. So friendly and accommodating to make sure we had the best vacation! Randy & Phem with Special Places very helpful in organizing our trip/directions/tour. We did Miravalles Volcano tour and Goose (Hanar) is superb! So friendly, knowledgable, felt like family with us! Goose did a fabulous job with his driving, information of MIravalles volcano and stayed with us every step of the way! Beautiful waterfalls/swimming/fantastic lunch/trek through mountain/suspension bridges (Thank goodness only 2) bridges!)/mud pool/viewing volcano geothermic activity). Goose even stopped at a local coffee store/gift store on way home. We got to see & hear Howler Monkeys too! Family had the BEST time and made so many memorable memories. Have to give thanks to the Beautiful Tikos we met...so, so, so friendly and helpful, everywhere we went. Loved seeing Tamarindo (Nari Italian Restaurant -Great Pizza!!!), Playa Grande too!! Playa Grande has great beach/view. Must eat in Playa Grande (Restaurant Huerto, restaurant & pizzeria!). Huerto would be #1 on our list for pizza with Nari in Tamarindo 2nd!!! Saw Playa Conchal & Playa Coco as well. Loved Brasilito too! Super Massei grocery store...convenient, had what we needed, great grocery store. Marie's restaurant - fabulous breakfast foods/Restaurant Pleamar fun dinner - we really enjoyed so much! We fell in love with Costa Rica....it was so hard to leave.... Thank you Special Places, Special Places Associates, Special Places services/ Goose (Miravalles Tour Guide), Tikos we met, places we saw, Villa Bouganvillea home, for the most relaxing, BEST family vacation! We would do this again in a hearbeat, hopefully sooner than later!

Beautiful property
The house was great but it had some issues. First, there was no one at the Special Places office when we arrived - had to wait for someone to give us keys to the house, bring us there, etc. (They were aware of our arrival time.) When we finally arrived at the house, it hadn't been opened up for guests arriving - it was nice and clean but the AC wasn't on and it was hot and stuffy. Seems like they could've aired it out a bit. (minor problem) The security system was messed up (they did come to fix it while we were there) but it's not set up well. Be aware- if you have small children with you, this house may not work. Two of the bedrooms are entered from outside the main house so the security system isn't connected to these bedrooms. I was a little uncomfortable with that. The garbage disposal in the kitchen sink is turned on from an awkward hiding place under the sink and it doesn't work well at all...kind of gross really - water kept backing up into the sink. I was told there were 6 lounge chairs, and there were only 4 (again, minor) Other than these issues, the house worked out really well for us. The pool and patio area is great - spent most of our time there. The beach is lovely - quite a downhill trek but it was a good work-out coming back. If you're interested in a catamaran tour, call Mateo at Manta Rey...he was fantastic!

Best Family Vacation Yet!
Villa Bougainvillea is absolutely immaculate, beautiful and has all of the amenities you are looking for in a "home away from home". Although there are other properties near Villa Bougainvillea, the landscaping makes it feel completely private and comfortable. The ocean waves are audible from the terrace or the living room if you leave the patio doors open. There are 2 private "en-suites" which make it great for large groups / families that want their own privacy. For travelers going during "dry" season, please note that at times your water will be turned off. This happens not just in Villa Bougainvillea, but throughout Guanacaste, especially the last month of dry season - which is when we traveled there. It is usually turned off in the early morning for about an hour. Not too inconvenient. If you travel any other time, you should not run into this problem. Location is great and "centralized" to get to many other places easily. "Special Places of Guanacaste" concierge services were outstanding and made excursion arrangements ahead of time and also last minute. They did a wonderful job, and our family did not miss out on any Costa Rican adventure. The locals around Villa Bougainvillea are so pleasant, and the nearby Restaurants were great and have some live free entertainment - fire throwing-belly dancing-flying yoga and more. Make sure you explore the volcanoes, go white water rafting, surfing, horse back riding and ATVing. ATVing is so much more fun in Costa Rica than anywhere in the U.S. Also, if you think that it is impossible to surf, guess again. Special Places hooked us up with a SUPERBOLOUS surf instructor, and my kids and I actually "rode the waves" for the first time ever. EXHILARATING!
Villa Bougainvillea is HUGE, beautifully decorated, has the most comfortable sleeping arrangements, incredible view, large and clean pool and a wonderful waterfall in entrance foyer that has great ambiance. Any family would enjoy there stay here!
