About this house rental
Casa chulada
New luxury hacienda style home and apartment on Playa Troncones
Welcome to Casa Chulada, a luxury home recently completed in the quiet village of Troncones, Mexico. As some of you know, chulada is a word sometimes used to describe people, places and things which means “exceptionally or exceeding beautiful” -- often luxuriously and deliciously so. We chose the name as it describes the feeling we have when we are here – in the house, the gardens, the pool, on the beach and in the surrounding communities – and the feeling that we hope you will experience.
Chulada offers beachfront living with the ambiance of a beautifully furnished and decorated real home -- a place for comfortable living with healing energy. Our home away from home can be your base to relax, play and enjoy yourself from which you can venture out as you wish -- locally or for example to Morelia, Patzcuaro, San Jose de Cobre . . . .
Troncones offers the quiet beauty of a beach village with soft sand, surf, great places to eat and lots of activities including swimming, walking, hiking, biking, fishing, horseback riding and kayaking. We have yoga, qigong and massage nearby (or in house if you prefer). We have great little shops for gorgeous gifts. In the nearby town of Majahua you can relax under a ramada and eat seafood, drink beer and sleep in hammocks. Or in Buena Vista, also close by, you can eat delicious tacos or traditional pozole. Further away (though only 20 minutes by car), in the towns of Zihuatanejo or Ixtapa, you can shop, bank, eat, hire a fishing boat or enjoy the nightlife.
Casa Chulada is located on the newly paved beach road between the hills to the east and the ocean on the west.
The house has 3 bedrooms – a master with king bed, two other generously sized rooms each with queen beds and their own bath (the blue bedroom bath is also available for use from the living and dining rooms). A highlight of the home is the beautiful large and fully equipped chefs’ kitchen with a Viking 6 burner/gas range with grill and huge island and breakfast bar.
There’s a 2 bedroom apartment above the garage -- one bedroom with queen bed and one with 2 twins (can be made king size if needed). There’s a kitchen, bath and dining - living room (which can be converted for sleeping if needed).
There are 2 outdoor living spaces between the house and the beach including a dining area and kitchen with a BBQ grill and a pizza oven. On the other side there’s a shade structure that can be used for lounging, dancing, yoga or . . . .
Chulada's marvelous pool (40’ x 18’) which has a stepped entry and a uniform depth of about 5’, is on the beach side of the property between the kitchen and the shade structure. We keep the pool relatively chlorine free -- cleaning frequently and treating the water with a copper and silver ion system that allows us to use the least amount of chlorine possible for cleanliness and safety. There’s an outdoor shower and pool bath nearby.
Walk down through the beach gate to the ocean where you will find sand beach (more or less depending on the season) and tide pools directly in front. You can relax in the tide pools and fish (the pelicans do!). Good swimming and surfing can be found within a very short walking distance - about a hundred meters south down the beach. There’s other fine surfing close by - at the point at Manzanillo Bay, La Boca or Saladita - and further out.
When you arrive, you will be greeted and introduced to the property by our property manager, Mariana Salas and/or Eduardo (Lalo). They will help you get settled and comfortable and check on you during and at the end of your stay. Jasmine, our housekeeper, who works days (except Sunday) will also be available to help you get acquainted and comfortable. Esteban, our gardener and maintenance man, will keep you supplied with water, show you the outdoor grill and oven and possibly be able to bring you some fresh lobsters or other seafood to cook.
You can get the whole house and the apartment for a group of 10 with option for additional sleeping if required. Or, if you have a smaller group, you may be able to get the house or the apartment separately (except typically for the holidays).
So come and enjoy with your family and friends. Stay for a week or a month.
Casa Chulada is ideal for special occasions, events, weddings or family reunions. We recently hosted a benefit for the Whales of Guerrero project which was attended by more than 70 people! Or just come on your own. Relax and enjoy a quiet or active getaway near a small town on the beach in the best house on the beach.

From the beginning to the (sad) end our experience with all things Casa Chulada was exemplary. Teri, the host, could not have been more responsive or communicative.
We were a family (and friends/significant others) of nine adults, and the house was perfectly sized with awesome communal and private spaces. As others have posted, the photos do not lie, and the casa and property are even lovelier in person.
The pool was impeccably clean and had the most perfect temperature. We very much enjoyed lazing in the rings. A friendly iguana often visited us in the sunny afternoons. The view to the beach and ocean was magical. We walked the length of the beach (as far as you can to the left) daily and even saw some whales spouting far offshore.
The casa's location is extremely convenient but also feels very private. We walked to Cafe Pacifico (which we loved-breakfast and one dinner), to Mi Jardin (literally across the street with amazing pasta and pizza), and had a short drive to the Terrace restaurant at the Manzanillo Inn.
But-the best dinners by far were those made by Natali and her daughter Stephanie. What a decadent and blissful treat! We let her know what we wanted (one night we asked for a surprise and it did not disappoint!) and she both shopped for the ingredients and cooked. The fact we could walk in from the pool and beach and just sit down and enjoy her delicious creations was truly a treasure. Casa Chulada is a GEM!!!

The property was beautiful and well maintained. The staff were attentive and friendly. Breathtakingly beautiful views and an overall wonderful experience.

Our family of 14 stayed at Casa Chulada for the week of Thanksgiving. The house is beautifully decorated and equipped and has a wonderful outdoor area and pool. The house is probably better suited for 10 people and maybe a couple of children. We had 5 couples and 4 singles in our group. The house has 3 bedrooms with baths and the apartment has another 2 bathrooms with a shared bath. The 4 singles were set up in the common area of the apartment - 2 twins and a inflatable double. This really didn’t work well since that area doesn’t have an air conditioner and would mean 8 people are sharing a bathroom. We adjusted and moved the inflatable bed into the house in one of the rooms. I would advise against trying to fit 14 adults in this property.
The staff are wonderful. We had Thanksgiving dinner cooked for us and 3 additional family members and it was by far the best food we had in our 4 weeks in Mexico. DELICIOUS!! I would highly recommend that you take advantage of this service.
We will cherish the memories of this wonderful family time in Troncones!

There aren’t really any words to adequately communicate how amazing this property is, the quality of the home, the mind blowing home cooked food, or the friendliness of the hosts. We had such a good time relaxing we never wanted to leave. Thanks Teri, Eduardo, Natalie, Patricia, and Estevan for one of the best experiences travelling any of us had imagined.

Booking this property for our vacation may have been one of the best decisions we ever made. We were traveling with a large group and a lot of small children, but Casa Chulada was everything we hoped it would be and more! The property is absolutely beautiful with well cared for gardens (thanks to Estevan, the grounds keeper) with a pool perfect for the kiddos and beachfront right out the back gate filled with little tidal pools and perfect sand for sandcastles and sea shell hunting. Natalie and Patty cooked delicious and authentic Mexican food for us everyday, and even made us a soothing tea when a few of us ran into some travel tummy troubles. Eduardo and Mariana were extremely helpful, arranging taxis for us and making sure we had everything we needed, and Terri the owner was responsive and answered the many questions we had prior to arriving.
I only wish we had more time there to explore the town a bit more! We spent most of our time either at the pool or at the beach, but there were lots of little shops in town that wouldve been fun to visit. Of note the surf is quite rough right near the house (not a lot of ocean swimming was had), but surfing lessons can be arranged in town easily where they bring you to a calmer area north of town to learn. Definitely make sure you get out to the beach nightly for the sunsets. They are fantastic!
Overall we had a wonderful and relaxing stay and hope to be back!

What a great place! You feel right at home, so comfortable, and very very at ease. The staff is more than amazing and the location is one where relaxation is 100%. Teri the owner communication was perfect! I had to do very little and was greatly accommodated! Thank you Teri and Sid and staff. I can’t wait to stay again!

We had an incredible week here! The property and rooms are beautiful, and the location is perfect to access all of Troncones! The staff were so kind and helpful, and the pizza oven was an awesome bonus! Great house for a group or big family! Will definitely book again.

Teri and Sid’s Casa Chulada was everything our group desired in a home and so much more. From the moment we entered the courtyard into the lush gardens, the warm ocean breeze welcomed us in with open arms.
The house is thoughtfully designed with plenty of options for communal and private living. Our group took advantage of the outdoor dining and lounging spaces the most. The pool was warm and cleaned often by the gardener, Esteban. A palapa and lounge chairs are set up on the beach for your afternoon siesta time.
Teri and Sid are intentional conservationists and it is evident in the way the home is maintained and operated. Compost and recycling are practiced along with the use of non-toxic products.
The house staff quickly became like family to us. Yasmine and Unfalia created some of the most delicious meals during our stay. I highly recommend using the grocery shopping and meal service to allow more beach/relaxing time.
The wi-fi is dependable should you need to use it. Our visit was during the Covid-19 outbreak and we never had a problem staying in touch with our families in the States.
Aside from the home, we were also impressed with the town of Troncones and it’s locals. We felt very safe riding bikes (3 available for use) into neighboring towns and returning after sundown.
After a full week of living in paradise, we all wanted to extend our stay indefinitely :)
If you are on the fence about where to stay in Troncones....look no further than Casa Chulada.

The house is just as pictured in the photos, except that you can't tell from the photos that the beds are comfortable, the a/c works beautifully in the bedrooms and there's always plenty of hot water. The kitchen is very well stocked and if Unfalia cooks for you she is great! The property manager and her assistant were very prompt to respond to any questions and the owner was very easy to work with. Yasmin was happy to do laundry for us in the mornings and Esteban kept the yard and pool sparkling clean. At the time of our visit, the neighbors had started construction next door, but it had very little impact on our trip. We enjoyed the beach (you do need to walk south, there is a very strong rip right off the property) and the kids boogie boarded for hours. Troncones was an easy bike ride away, and there was an abundance of great restaurants from which to choose. We especially enjoyed the kayaking trip and snorkeling trip we set up through Costa Nativa . We felt safe and cared for and it was a great set up!

My family of four had an absolutely wonderful stay at Casa Chulada. The house is gorgeous, with just the right combination of personal touches and amenities. Each of the three bedrooms was comfortable and spacious, and the master opens on to the ocean and the constant sound of roaring surf. The location couldn’t be better—it’s directly on a rocky stretch of the beach, which is especially lovely at sunset, and directly adjoining an endless, deserted beach perfect for body surfing. The pool is especially lovely, surrounded by flowering plants and shaded areas for outdoor dining and relaxing. The staff was helpful and unobtrusive, and the property manager was terrific. We really couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

We spent 1 week and it was heavenly. Great location by the ocean. Beautifully decorated house. Large and spacious for easy relaxation. Nicely equipped kitchen. All kept clean by Jasmine the housemaid. And Esteban the gardener. One of our best vacations ever.

We stayed at Casa Chulada for a week while we were in Mexico for a wedding. The pictures on this website do not do it justice! We could not believe how beautiful this amazing house was. The feeling of comfort you have walking into this house as the ocean air blows though did not stop for our entire trip. The property manager filled our refrigerators and pantry to our specific requests allowing us to truly relax the entire trip. Cooking on the restaurant style stove and dining with the sun going down underneath the beautifully styled pergola was an experience no 5 star restaurant could match. Jasmine kept the house spotless everyday while we enjoyed the sun, making us feel like we were at a all inclusive resort without the stress of dealing with a crowded club. For the 8 family members and I, this house gave us the space when we needed it and the home like feel when we gathered to enjoy each others company. Every bedroom could be considered the Master suite which always helps solve any debates on sleeping arrangements. The guest house is perfect for the early sleepers to break away as the rest of the party continues throughout the night. I really appreciate everything Teri did to set us up for this amazing vacation for my family and I. I still get calls from my family asking when can we all go back or remarking on little things Jasmine and Lalo did to accommodate us and make it truly a one of a kind trip. We had a lot of family staying at a number of different houses along the beach in Troncones, and they all remarked on how jealous they were of our groups house. Nobody will take as good of care of you as Teri and her staff, and if you want that unforgettable vacation, look no further

We stayed at Casa Chulada during the month of October. The weather was absolutely perfect and we had the good fortune of a full moon during our stay which made the nights seem magical. From the moment we passed through the entrance gate and into the courtyard the view took my breath away. The wide open doors revealed an inviting glimpse of luxurious white overstuffed couches, just beyond was a huge custom made banquet table with seating for twelve, then the swimming pool and of course the spectacular ocean. We all immediately felt relaxed and happy at our good fortune to be guests in this beautiful home. During our stay we enjoyed several of the amazing restaurants that were within walking distance, we had a massage at the nearby yoga institute and we swam in the pool and in the ocean daily. One of our outings was to a nearby fishing village where we sat at tables with our feet in the sand and ate lobsters while watching the sunset. We also went to Zihuatanejo for a fun day of shopping. My room had an extremely comfortable bed with fine linens, my own bathroom and the option of remote control air conditioning. I have traveled all over the world but this vacation at Casa Chulada is one I will never forget and I can’t wait to go back.

Casa Chulada is just the most wonderful place to have a truly relaxing but exquisite vacation. We have had the good fortune to stay more than once at Casa Chulada and can't wait to go back again. Teri and Sid have created a casual elegance that is showcased in every room of the house, as well as the terrific two bedroom apt, from the very comfortable beds with beautiful linens and luxury bathrooms to the gourmet kitchen over looking the handmade rustic dining table with the killer view of the ocean. Wendy, their bilingual housekeeper, is so helpful and fun. Troncones isn't that big so riding a bike everywhere is doable, and the combi does pass right in front of the house. Fabulous eating right on the beach is just minutes in either direction. Or if you're lucky enough to be there when Teri is, don't miss one of her gourmet meals. That girl can cook! A lot of thought was put into the landscaping resulting in a beautiful tropical oasis. One really is comfortable no matter where you are in the house, the apartment, in the sparkling pool, on the patios or down on the beach. Chulada sits up a little from the beach which makes for perfect whale watching, full on gorgeous sunsets and unobstructed views of the ocean and those hilarious dive bombing pelicans. Staying at Casa Chulada makes your stay in Mexico extra special.

A vacation to remember. All the family enjoyed the beauty and confort of the house , the spaces are so well desingned, the most memorable space on the house was the kitchen and dinning room, great area for sharing family time. We will be back for sure!!!!

An oasis away from home. My husband and I spent a week at Casa Chulada during June and had a fabulous time. As soon as you enter the house, you are greeted by spectacular views and sounds of the ocean. The home sits just steps away from the ocean. The home is decorated with art from local artisans. Sleeping accommodations are comfortable with a full bath and air conditioning in every bedroom. Swimming in the pool and relaxing in hammocks under the shaded patio is very relaxing. While there are good restaurants nearby, we enjoyed cooking meals in the beautifully tiled kitchen complete with three sinks, a six burner stove, and a large island. We enjoyed eating our meals on the patio or at the long dining room table overlooking the ocean. One night we grilled fresh fish and vegetables in the outdoor grill and sipped our Manhattans as the sun was going down while greeted by exquisite fireflies. The home is very well maintained and everyday the entire house was cleaned... our beds were made and the bathroom was spotless. Sid and Teri, the owners, recommended great activities provided by the locals. One day we went on a beautiful jungle hike through the river culminating in a delicious lunch of crayfish stew and homemade tortilla tacos at the home of a local family. Another day we had wonderful Thai massages from an excellent massage therapist who came to the house.
I highly recommend Casa Chulada. We can't wait to return.

I felt like a princess each night as I closed a wall of curtains in my beautiful, super comfy bedroom, with the soothing roar of the surf in the background.Casa Chulada
was even more beautiful and comfortable than expected. The details of design, like the colorful hand blown lamps in the bathrooms, the exquisite tile in the huge
high end kitchen, and the finely crafted mahogany floors, gave a sophisticated, yet rustic feel to this great house. The gardens, though newly planted, held surprises
of aroma, color and fresh fruit.Breakfast on the terrace overlooking both the pool
and sea was my favorite way to start a lazy day of beach combing, massage,
plus visiting with the terrific hosts ,Sid and Teri. The house was spotless with staff person Wendy(who spoke English & Spanish)cheerfully attending to any need!I hope to return soon, as I have fallen in love with Troncones and Casa Chulada!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Chulada in January, during New Years. This home is the definition of relaxing and luxury. A vacation was much needed and this house offered exactly what we needed. The location is amazing-the moment you walk through the main gates, the ocean is there. Cool ocean breezes come through the house all day long. The amazing kitchen offers chefs a wonderful area to create fresh meals. The beautiful blue tile pool is refreshing and a stones through from the ocean. Access to the beach is the best part. The nearly private beach acts as a perfect place for boogie boarding, swimming, beach walks, etc. The house is conveniently located just down the street from many restaurants. We rode bikes everywhere we went. Activities include horse back riding, eco tour on the river, massages at the spa down the road, swimming, and just a short drive from the big cities. Not to mention, Teri and Sid were amazingly hospitable, flexible, and great hosts.
If you're looking for a romantic getaway, a family get together, or anything in between, Casa Chulada is the place to be.
