About this house rental
Located on the south end of the island, Casa De Mariposas is one of the most colorful Villas on the Island paradise of Isla Mujeres. Off the main road, it is away from traffic and is perfect for families, retreats or small gatherings. The villa has two main bedrooms with private bathrooms, King size memory foam beds and a double sofa bed in the living room. It sleeps five but is most suitable for groups of four. The main bedrooms are on the ground floor, adjacent to the pool , and the upper floors have two open air dining terraces, spacious living room, guest bathroom, kitchen and very private roof top terrace with a Mayan wood shaded pergola. The villa enjoys wonderful views of sunrise over the Caribbean sea. Great attention to detail has been paid throughout the villa in order to make it a peaceful getaway. The decor is cool and calming and there are original artworks and fine linens to enhance your stay. Its your perfect Island retreat.
The location is somewhat remote, yet you are only minutes from the amenities of Garrafon Park, fine dining at superior restaurants or the luxuries of the Casa De Los Suenos Spa and there is a new restaurant across the street.
Casa De Mariposas is a true tropical getaway that can be all yours to enjoy with those you want to share it with.
Full kitchen with oven and stove, fridge freezer, microwave, coffee machine, blender, toaster, Calfalon cookware and crockery and cutlery for six.
Pool, Air conditioning.
A flat screen television, DVD player, DVD library, WIFI Internet.
Fine linens, all towels provided, weekly maid service (additional on request - additional cost), - soaps, towels and tissue in all bathrooms.
Casa de Mariposas has an English speaking agent on the island to handle any requests.
Within easy reach of Casa de Mariposas are fine snorkeling opportunities, the activities of Garrafon Park, scenic walks to the Mayan ruins and along the Caribbean coast.
There are several scuba dive centres on the island with daily trips to Manchones Reef, the Cave of the Sleeping Sharks and Cross of the Bay.
Bicycles are readily available to rent and are a great way to tour the island. For the less energetic the common form of transport is the golf cart - these are great fun and can be rented for $50 a day.
Area: Casa de Mariposas is located at the scenic south end of Isla Mujeres, a gem of an island in the Caribbean sea just a few miles by ferry from Cancun and the Yucatan mainland.
Originally a sacred site to the worship of the fertility Goddess Ixchel, there are still temple remains close to the villa.
Getting to Isla is easy with a fast ferry to the mainland and various transfer options from Cancun airport.
The beaches of Isla have two different characters. The North and West beaches are shallow with white coral sand and very safe for bathing. The eastern coastline is more rugged with curling Caribbean swells and are ideal for walking and shelling.
Isla is known for it's laid back approach to life. Visitors to the island are independent and individual and making new friends is one of the joys of the island.

Guests loved the privacy, cleanliness, beautiful pool, responsive property manager, and stunning rooftop views. The house was well-equipped and perfect for relaxing vacations with family and friends.

This was our second stay at Casa Mariposas. It is such a perfect house for our family. We love the location away from the bustle of the north end. Pool is the best. And the rooftop has amazing views all around! Very much recommended.

Always a beautiful experience. We love it here as a haven to escape the hustle and bustle of the north side of the island. Maybe just a few suggestions though, for whatever they’re worth. We chose this place again and again for its beauty, privacy, views, private pool, etc. We spend quite a bit of time there eating our meals and relaxing. A few updated items would go a long way. A new coffee maker (not fancy, just new). A better grill to cook outside (propane perhaps). We cooked burgers and chicken and it took a lot to keep the fire lit. And possibly a new microwave. It was hit or miss whether it would warm things up or not. Again, we LOVE this place and definitely plan to return. But being able to cook and eat there is a big reason why we rent a house. Thank you so much for another beautiful vacation!

Casa Mariposa was all that we wanted and so much more. For us and our kids to have our own spaces made the vacation that much better. Air conditioning in the bedrooms and kitchen were a welcomed relief during a hot summer in Mexico. The rooftop is divine with the ocean views and breeze. The kitchen is small but still sufficient for us preparing a few meals. Alfonso, the Property Manager, was very receptive and attentive to any and all questions that we had. The private pool was 100% worth it! Rancho Capricio is within walking distance and most definitely has the "best tacos on the island". We also loved the location, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main road and on the complete opposite end of the "toursit" district of the North Beach. Would highly recommend Casa Mariposa!!

My husband and I have been to Isla a few times in the past and have always chosen to stay on the south side of the island and have never regretted it. This time we stayed at Casa Mariposa and loved every minute of it. The privacy is amazing. We spent lots of time in the pool, up on the roof, and taking impromptu naps in the cool air conditioning.
We cooked quite a bit, and when shopping at Chedraui we even made sure to get a bag of spinach leaves for the security iguana (we called him Paco) and his gal pal which I think they appreciated. There are good casual restaurants within walking distance (El Borracho Burro, Rancho Capricha, The Joint) a mini super (for snacks and drinks) and the best rooftop views you could ask for. Alfonso (property manager) came by to check on us and housekeeping, the pool guys, and the lawn guy were all very quiet, quick, and thorough and we barely even knew they were there. The power never went out when we were there and the WiFi connection was great. We couldn’t have asked for a better, more relaxing vacation. Next time, we will have to make it longer than 7 days! Thank you for the amazing opportunity to share your paradise. ❤️🌴

Overall an excellent experience. Lots of space and several outdoor sitting areas to choose from. The pool is excellent and very private. The view from the roof is fantastic and the house has everything you need. Alfonso, the property manager, is very helpful and will answer questions within minutes. The only thing, which is very small, was the maintenance crew did come in to clean the pool one morning at 7 AM. They did not bother me but it would have been nice to know before hand. Again, a non issue. definitely a ten out of ten and I highly recommend this property. I would definitely return. Thank you for an excellent vacation!

This was our first time staying in Casa Mariposa and we loved it. It was pretty far south down the island but with a golf cart, it still felt very accessible to places. We loved the house - it was comfortable for me and my husband and our two children (8 and 6). The pool was a family favorite! The owner was great at communicating and the house was clean and tidy. Kitchen is small but it functions fine and we ate many meals at home. We loved sitting on the porch to eat our meals and ending our days watching Netflix in the living room with the ac. A previous review had mentioned the bar across the street playing loud music all day. We actually really enjoyed hearing it! It definitely didn't take away from our relaxation. I wish I was still on Isla.
Such a great trip!

We have been to the island many times and this was another great visit. The space was perfect for two couples and we all loved the pool and the view from the roof. Property manager was very responsive when I reached out. Overall happy with our stay.

We had a wonderful time at the villa. The location was great for us as we love the south side of the island. It was the easiest check in we have had on island. The villa is just behind El Burrcho Burro which has live music every day, we enjoyed it as we used the pool area every day. The house was spotless, beds were great and someone cleaned the pool several times while we were there. We also got fresh towels. We will be back.

Casa Mariposa was everything we hoped for during our first (but definitely not last!) visit to Isla. Communication with our host Megan was excellent, and she had some great tips for us as first timers. Check in was flawless and the home was immaculate.
Property manager Alfonso was also extremely responsive but in no way intrusive. He checked via message to see if we needed anything, informed us when to expect the maid and even got right back to me when there was a power issue after 9pm. It had nothing to do with the home, it was a municipal power problem. Before i could even reach out in the morning, he let me know his maintenance person was on the way. Power was back on before we returned from breakfast. I was very impressed at the level of service and responsiveness shown.
The home itself is lovely and filled with art, with so many little areas to sit, inside or out to enjoy the stunning views. You can see both the bay side and the Caribbean side of the ocean!
Beds were very comfortable. Kitchen is quite small but very well stocked with everything needed to cook for yourself, plenty of nice pots and pans, dinnerware, utensils, etc.
The pool is fantastic, though unheated. Depending on time of year it may be too cold for you, but I thought it was refreshing.
It's away from downtown, so you will probably want to rent a golf cart.
There is a bar across the street that plays live music from 12-8 daily. We enjoyed it, but if you want silence it may be an issue.

Property is as described, only better! Location was great and easy to get to. Pool was a bit cool, but that is to expected when there is some rain. But the pool was cleaned a couple of times while we were there, big plus for that. Roof top decks were our favorite for sunrises and sunsets, since you can see both sides of the island from there. Alfonso, the property manager, gets a huge shout out. He is simply amazing, he answered all of our questions in a very timely manner. Great place to stay, we will be looking here again for our next trip to the island.

Casa Mariposa is a beautiful and comfortable home on the south side of Isla Mujeres. If you want to get away from the touristy hub of Playa Norte this is the spot for you.
Plenty of space for two adults and three kids, 12 and under. The bedrooms and tv room have great ac wall units that kept us cool. The kitchen is a bit tight, but served us great for meals.
Awesome roof deck with a stunning view of the Caribbean and slight view of Cancun bay. The pool was fantastic too and our kids spent hours in it every day!
Heads up; there is a restaurant/bar across the street that had live music every day all afternoon. The bands were pretty good though and played a lot of classic rock and 80s music. This place closes around 7pm so don’t worry about the party going all night.
We will definitely keep Casa Mariposa in mind for our eventual return to Isla Mujeres.

This is the second time my family has stayed in this wonderful home. It is fun, funky, charming, and the perfect spot to relax or use as a jumping off point for island adventures. Communication is quick, and the manager is available at a moment’s notice. I can’t say enough about what a pleasure it is to stay at Casa Mariposa!

This home was just what we needed. Hosts are super quick to respond. Plenty of hot water, comfy beds (not too soft not too firm) and gorgeous views from the balconies.

This thing was harder to book because of all the good reviews from the first time we stayed there, although the good reviews are earned

My husband and I prefer the quiet south side, and elected to stay in a private home this time. We LOVED the privacy of the pool! As much as we enjoyed visiting El Burracho Burro, the loud music that took away from the peaceful serenity of the south side of the island. That said, the music stops at 8:00, so it isn’t that it keeps you up late at night. Alfonso was over the top responsive to our needs! We forgot to mail a letter before we left the States that was time sensitive. He and his wife took care of getting it to Cancun and sent it home and it was there in two days! The home was beautiful! The beds were so comfortable we thought about trying to pack them to bring them home! Thanks for the wonderful vacation!

This house was simply amazing. It met all our expectations and more. Pool was amazing with the walk out bedrooms and the roof top views were just gorgeous WOW. Over all one our best experiences.

We stayed for 8 nights and everything was dare I say perfect. The house, accommodations, pool, location were all great. We rented a golf cart for the duration which was definitely necessary. We found the secret beach a short 2 block walk. My 6 yr old was in the pool every day, she liked the outdoor spiral staircase and the iguanas. I could go on and on about our trip. We loved the house and the island and will come back any chance we get.

Nice house. We had a few issues the first day with the power going out. However, the property manager was very responsive and helpful. The house is not really near very much, so you definitely need a golf cart. Owners were also very responsive.

I cannot say enough about the beauty of the home. How large it is and the ability to enjoy all floors. We went as a family of 5 and everything was setup perfectly for my family. What made this trip 100x better was the staff managing the home so responsive, thoughtful and out right made us feel extremely welcomed. I would definitely be coming back to Casa Mariposa!

Awesome Home!
Overall, a lovely stay! This home was comfortable, colorful, and incredibly enjoyable to relax at. The AC in the bedrooms was amazing and much appreciated, as it allowed for an extra comfy night of sleep. The beds were super comfy. Plenty of towels. Our third child stayed upstairs on the pull-out (which they had all made up in advance of our stay) and he was stoked to have that space, hammock and TV in his space :). The bottled water on-site was a pure plus, as lugging it from across the island would have been tedious for sure. The pool was such a fun way to mix up our time while visiting, and of course the kids loved it and the loving iguanas who enjoyed chilling poolside. The only things to be aware of are mosquitos, if you happen to be like most of us in our party, who are prone to being bitten if there's something present that bites. Plan accordingly for the evening hours in advance. And, it was the first time we'd been to Isla Mujeres, so we mistakenly thought we could rent a golf cart upon arrival and quickly found out that was naive. We ended up loving the house but feeling kind of stranded on the southern side of the island until we figured out that you can catch a taxi quite easily one block over and figured out the actual rate after being duped the first few trips to get groceries. The binder in the home could be improved on by offering more local info (e.g. what's in the vicinity -- like the awesome resort offering free activities for like spending $5 there.) We were only there for 3 full days and it took us 2 to get oriented and by the third we were sad we had to leave already. Anyhow, great home and highly recommend... just plan to orient yourself to the amenties a bit in advance. Cheers!

Excellent property with everything you need
This is the second time that we have stayed in this house. I love everything about it. The spacious bedrooms have sliding doors that open right up to the pool, that was absolutely perfect to me. The roof level is such a great bonus. It is so nice to sit up there with a book and coffee. And right next door is a restaurant so you can walk to eat :)

Second of hopefully many visits
Spent the last 8 days at Casa Mariposa after a long break due to Covid restrictions. Everything about the house is as described or better. The new rooftop deck provides amazing views and the pools is fabulous to spend time around during the hot afternoons. Lots of new restaurants in area to visit. Almost don’t want to say how great this place is in fear of others catching on and it not being available for a return visit!

Awesome property, with awesome hosts!
Our family had a great stay at Casa Mariposa. The pool was wonderful and felt very private. Dinner on the front patio, breakfast and after-dinner drinks on the rooftop we’re a daily event. Lots to do very close by. A beautiful part of the island away from the busy port and town center. Definitely worth every penny!

Beautiful Place!
We LOVED Casa Mariposa. It is far more beautiful than the pictures. The property was wonderful and had many amenities. We didn't cook while we were there but did notice that there weren't any spices or basics for cooking so you will want to pick those up on your way if you plan to cook your own meals.
The surrounding area is great and within walking distance to some nice places to eat and beach clubs.
We absolutely loved it. The only downfall is that we had NO wifi the whole time we were there and as we both work online we needed to pay for data which was pricey.
We connected with the property manager about this and he said he would look into it but never got back to us.
Other than that our stay was perfect! We will be back again but will make a Plan B incase the wifi is down again.

Great house near Punta Sur
Great property near Punta Sur! The host welcomed us shortly after our arrival and was able to answer all of our questions about the local area. Our golf cart was waiting for us at the house. The pool was incredible and we cooked a few meals in the well equipped kitchen. Can't wait to come back to casa mariposa!

Cool spot
We thoroughly enjoyed this house for our family of four. Property owner and manager were very helpful and responded quickly to all our needs and questions. Golf cart was the best! This place is a two minute drive to lots of cool things- the joint, garrifon park, burro burrito, etc. A 15 minute walk to Punta sur. Parque de los suenos was close and great, etc. The views from rooftop were great and breezy in the mornings and evenings! We all loved the pool. We loved the iguana who
Hung by the pool:) Lots of stairs in the house...only complaint was it was hot when we first got there but by the next day ac had it cooled off. Bedroom was cold enough to sleep in within the hour! Beds were very comfortable! Whole house was authentically Mexican style, 3rd floor stayed warm, but there was really no need for us to use it. A short drive (20 minutes) and you're at playa norte with all the bustling action. We'd stay here again. Felt very safe. Thanks for opening your home to us!

Great home!
The home was absolutely wonderful. We had a few issues with the gate lock, but never called anyone as each time we ended up getting it. We were very comfortable and adults and kids enjoyed it.

Amazing house and experience overall
We absolutely loved this property. It was a very private setting, the pool was fantastic. We got the benefit of the live music across the street which was really fun. Beds are comfortable. Air conditioning was very nice to have. Kitchen is stocked with what most people would need to cook pretty much anything. Rooftop patio is really nice, we spent a lot of time up there in the evenings. The property manager, Alfonso, is wonderful. Owners are great, they helped us arrange the required covid tests to get back to the US.
We will for sure return to this house if given the opportunity. And probably stay for 2 weeks instead of only 1.

Perfect for our family of 4
Usually I end a vacation feeling inspired and brainstorming the next place I want to visit. When we locked up and left Casa Mariposa all I could think is, “I want to come back.” It was perfect for my husband and I and two kids 5 and 7. The pool was a huge hit and we spent most of our days there. It’s very clean and we couldn’t get enough of the resident iguana who would hang out with us while we swam. The pictures don’t do the house justice — it’s one of the tallest homes in the area and we watched beautiful sunsets and sunrises on the roof. The beds were comfortable, linens were nice and the kitchen had everything we needed. I really enjoy being on the south end to avoid the crowds but a golf cart is a necessary tradeoff for the peace and quiet. If you’re looking for fair price point, views, pool, and cleanliness on Punta Sur for a small family or two couples - this is your place.
