Originally built in 1892 (the very first home in Gearhart), this Gearhart vacation rental has been lovingly maintained and makes a wonderfully unique vacation getaway.
Perched on a full acre of grassy meadow ringed by old-growth pines, the home sits just three blocks from the beautiful sandy beach and only four from the shops and cafes of charming Gearhart.
The Latourette House has 2,500 square feet of unique living space. The sun-drenched living room has ample windows, and is the ideal spot to settle in with a good book for a quiet afternoon, or break out one of the provided board games for a little healthy competition. There is even a day bed that can be used at night by a guest.
At mealtimes, you'll find the kitchen is equipped with all the modern conveniences of home, including a dishwasher, oven with stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker. Adjacent to the kitchen, the formal dining room with antique light fixtures and a gorgeous hutch awaits your home-cooked breakfasts and leisurely dinners.
A door from the kitchen leads out to the patio, with a charcoal grill for summer barbecues. Outdoor seating nooks are scattered across the wraparound deck and throughout the grassy yard, and if you watch closely, you might spot a deer or elk wandering past!
With four bedrooms, three full baths, and a unique summer sleeping porch with netting instead of glass windows, this home has plenty of room for eight guests. The largest bedroom offers a queen bed and a cable TV with DVD player, along with a private door leading out to the wrap-around deck.
The second bedroom has a double bed, a third room has a twin bed, and the fourth bedroom offers two twins with another TV set. There are three full bathrooms, one with a beautiful soaking tub and two with walk-in showers.
The upstairs summer sleeping porch, enclosed by netting rather than glass windows, is a one-of-a-kind spot that our younger guests will love! Over the years, it has become a makeshift art gallery or family journal with names and memories from the past of when the owners were kids and growing up in the home. You are welcome to view the make-shift journal, but please do not add anything to it. Please note that while the beds are comfy and the linens warm, the space does not have heat—it is wonderful for summertime sleeping in the fresh air, but not suitable for colder weather.
The home even offers wireless Internet access and a washer/dryer, so it's wonderful for a working getaway or long-term stay. Dogs are welcome with an additional nightly fee, and please inquire for special arrangements to accommodate a wedding or large reunion!
This one-of-a-kind Northern Oregon Coast vacation home has welcomed families to beautiful Gearhart for decades! Will yours be next?

We love this house! From the screen porch where our boys live to sleep in the coastal cool air, to the gorgeous living room with tons of natural light and the large yard, it is a terrific place to stay at the beach. And the kitchen remodel is terrific!

This 100 year old house is a gem. Family pictures and old pictures of the house adorn the walls which gives it a very homey feel. The house is perfectly situated for a walk to the beach or a stroll around the beautiful neighborhood. It's two blocks from the best restaurant in town. The Pacific Way restaurant is 5-star all the way. The house sits on an acre lot which provides lots of privacy and places for the dog and kids to play. Three of the bedrooms have their own bathrooms which is convenient. The bedrooms could use some updating as well as the bathrooms, but everything worked. I've rented many VRBO's, so I didn't take my blow dryer because one is always provided. This house didn't, so make sure you pack one. The kitchen is small, but workable. The best feature of the house is the sun room in the front. It has lots of comfortable seating and windows where you feel like you're sitting outside. The whole house could have been a little cleaner. Cobwebs everywhere. If you're looking for a modern home with modern conveniences, this may not work for you. There is no TV in the front room. If you're looking for a place for your family to gather in privacy with lots of room outside to play, this is a perfect fit.

This house was huge and great for our large family. A great quiet location. It is an old house and the bathrooms were pretty small. We really appreciated being able to use the washer and dryer.

The house is a beautiful old Victorian style house. We had a wonderful time. The kitchen has been updated and if very will stocked with dishware, silverware, glassware and cooking utensils. The rest of the house is still very much like it was when it was built. It was fun to see the old style light switches in the Living room, and imagine the family that had spent many fun summers at this house. There were a cobwebs and dust bunnies, which is the reason for the 4 stars rating instead of the 5 stars. Other than that it is a wonderful location and lovely home to spend a bit of time at the coast.

We loved the safe yard for all our children to play in the sandbox/on the hill with no worry of traffic. The beach is a good walk down the road and on the trail beyond, little legs will get tired and you might need to carry a kiddo. The graffiti room has screens only and we kept the door closed to stay warm as we stayed in September. Overall enjoyed our stay.

This family vacation was the most amazing. It stared as soon as we pulled up & seen the house. It is beautiful. The first morning we woke up to a herd of elk right out our window. Our stay was so relaxing. I also loved that it is a historical monument.
All the history & old photos we very interesting. Our stay was the best from beginning to end. Thank you!

We had a lovely stay - the house was perfect for our needs. The house is old but has charm and is kept in really excellent condition. Plenty of places to sleep, well stocked kitchen, and the sun room is so comfortable and delightful!

House was old but very clean. I don’t mean old in a negative way, just not modern. Had every amenity needed. Lovely yard and great location.

First off- this is a super cute historic house located in a great quiet coastal community. The yard is big and great for kids to play in or for a nice small fire.
There are a lot of beds too- which is great for a crowd! However, it's worth noting that the beds are all.... historic... feeling. If you are prone to tossing at night you'll hear the bedframe protest. The sleeping porch is great for teenagers or kids who want to do a sleepaway camp type experience as its lined with four beds with a liberal indoors graffiti policy that feels really campy in a good way. Adults or finnicky sleepers may notice that the porch slopes away from the building and consequently the beds do as well.
My only real grouse is that the mattresses were truly not comfortable, feeling alternately rock hard or pillow soft. As someone whose back is past its prime I definitely paid a price for sleeping like that.
Bottom line- if you're an easy sleeper with a big traveling entourage, this place is awesome. For my part, I'm going to have to find somewhere with mattresses that aren't as antique as the furniture!

Beautiful & lots of beds (but don't come for the sleep)

Quiet Retreat
This older charm has so much room to move about. One of the best parts was the sitting room with a fireplace. We haven't sat and visited as a whole family in a long time. Thank you for everything, will definitely be back here..

family beach gathering
this property was quaint and charming. Very old and in good condition for the age of property. A little further from beach to do more than a daily walk for this 75 year old. But it is an east access trail. Loved the decor and abundance of towels and supplies. Clean.

Historical gem
Peace and quiet surrounds this 1892 gem. It's how the beach should be enjoyed. Deer and elk are frequent visitors.

A Classic Gearhart Experience
The La Tourette House is over 100 years old and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Given its age, it was surprisingly comfortable. A very quiet and peaceful location for a much-needed short break.

When I originally rented the house it was advertised as sleeping 10 with an additional 6 on the sleeping porch. I rented it for the annual beach trip with three other families. When I double checked the address a month before our trip, the number of guests was reduced to just 7! I had to count on the sleeping porch to accommodate my guests. The description still states that 6 additional beds are on the sleeping porch, but when we arrived we saw that there are only FOUR beds on the sleeping porch. Thank goodness one family cancelled at the last minute! It worked out in the end, but I feel we were way overcharged for the reduced number of guests allowed.

Beautiful home, very poor property management team!
Loved the home, the property management team was not great. Made an error on the listing for a hot tub, wrong WiFi password, wrong key box code, overflowing garbage cans that took three days to resolve.

Great Home!!!
What a wonderful place to stay. It was very comfortable and surprisingly so given its age. The history of the home was fun to learn about. It was beautiful and perfectly located. Plenty of room for large gatherings and still easy even with young children. Can't wait to come back!

Private and Charming Gearhart
A handful of girlfriends stayed here for a weekend. This was the perfect house for us! Plenty of rooms, beds, and separation of space. The classic charm of this historic property made for a most memorable event. It was worth splurging a little!

Secluded, welcoming family sized home!
I stayed here with four other adult family members and two babies - plus a dog! There were plenty of bathrooms and space, and we had a great time!

Good memories
For anyone who has lived in an old farmhouse this will bring back lovely memories. From the old creaky wood floors to the upstairs bedrooms full of character, this home offers all the warmth and charm one could ask for on a vacation. The screened in porch/bedroom is a fantastic place to sleep even in April! The kitchen is well stocked with an eclectic array of dishes including 2 vintage cast iron skillets. The linen was clean and there is ample space in the sitting room which is flooded with natural sunlight.
I highly recommend this to any family or a small group retreat gathering.

A Step Back in Time
This home, over 100 years old was absolutely the best place for our spanish immersion experience. There were six of us but we could have fit 5 more people. The best part was the charming living room!

The Latourette house
The weather did not cooperate. It rained most of the time. The house was large enough for all of us to be inside playing games and such. We still had a great time and loved seeing the old pictures and reading some history on the house. We would go again.

Family Getaway
It was a nice quiet weekend. Would have liked to spend more time at the beach and have a good BBQ. We had to cook in the house because the little BBQ was dirty.

Great historic hiuse
We loved the charm and history of the house. Having the large lot to play on was perfect for our family.
Would be nice to have queen beds instead of full size beds for couples that have to sleep together.
We would definitely stay here again!

Old home with character in a cute neighborhood
My family enjoyed our stay at this house but it was not without some surprises. The home is smaller than I expected but the front room is very nice and sunny. The layout of the home is a bit quirky. The shower and bathroom in the yellow room is very tiny but the bathroom and shower downstairs is decent size. My boys loved the old bathtub in the 3rd bathroom. I do wish the green and blue rooms had queen beds instead of twins. We did not use the graffiti room as it was far too chilly. We did have an incident with the stove. It is an older stove/oven and I don't think the temperature was regulating correctly and one of the dishes broke in the oven. Another thing to note is that the windows do not open at all. We would have loved to have fresh air moving through the house. The beach was much further than we expected and our 3 year old was not a fan of the walk. Overall we did enjoy the home but I really do wish the owners would take time to upgrade certain things while keeping the integrity of the home.

Very neat old house.
We looked it up and saw that this was the first house in Gearhart, loved the historical aspect. Only complaint was that a double bed in the room with one single would be much more convenient.

This house is good for a larger group of people. It is very old, so expect the usual old house quirks. The upstairs doesn't get much heat . The lot is big with plenty of room for activities. People in the area regularly cut through the yard to get between streets, which was a nuisance since we had dogs who didn't like strangers wandering through the yard. The beach is a little farther than expected and once you get through the neighborhood there's a decent walk through dunes before you get to the water.
The strangest thing was that in the middle of our stay a man arrived at the door and said he was an owner and needed to get some things. He retrieved a couple shovels from the back room. It felt a little invasive having a stranger walk through the house when we were all in the midst of various activities. I think it would have been more appropriate to coordinate this visit with Vacasa, or wait a day until we checked out.
