Hidden escape I’m merida
Great spot in Merida. Close enough to centro/plazas/nightlife to be able to get there for a US$1 uber, but a few blocks away from the noise and activity. That was perfect for us. Private secluded pool was amazing. Layout is a little tricky. With just two of us we didn’t end up attempting to bring suitcases up the spiral staircase to the upstairs master. There is another bedroom downstairs. Would work well for 2 couples for privacy because rooms are across the courtyard from each other. Communication with host was easy. I’d go back!

Staying at the house was absolutely amazing! Everything was as described and more.
The house and the yard were so beautiful, nice character, clean and comfortable. The swimming pool was a must and just perfect for the hot days in Merida. Great location for visiting around town on foot and going out for dinner or a cold drink. And we always had an open spot for parking right in front of the house. Thank you so much for sharing your house with us we had a great time.

Adorable house, but your neighbor is a barking dog.
This is a charming casita, perfect for 2 couples if you can use the back bedroom. A common wall between the bedroom and an adjacent garden amplifies the often incessant barking of the poor, neglected pooch who lives there. The owners leave him alone in the yard when they go out and he doesn’t like it. This being said, Barbara, the owner is a concerned and responsive landlord. And Mirza, Barbara’s in town proxy is helpful as well The house is well located but understand that a few blocks in Mérida can be a relatively long walk and the sidewalks are often narrow and cratered. And it can be very hot! Just around the corner is a swell language School and 2 blocks away is Oliva one truly fine Italian restaurant. No not Mexican, better. So this a great house but beware the barking dog. Also note that you will be charged for the electricity that you use and if the heat or the dog drive you into the front of the house with windows and doors shut, you will be using a good deal of electricity to run the AC. Finally note that UBER is a great and very inexpensive way to get around and if you are planning to set up house and cook in, take an Uber to the ‘burbs to do a big shop. Better than the closer Walmart.

A Tranquil Space in Busy Merida
We loved our month long stay in this beautiful home. Behind the blue doors that you enter from the street is a quiet, tranquil, beautifully decorated historic colonial. The two king suites are located so the occupants have complete privacy. In the center of the house is an open air courtyard with a small pool for cooling off during the hot Merida afternoons. The tall ceilings with fans in every room keep the house cool even when it is 90 degrees outside. Everything is beautifully designed and kept in perfect condition. Mirza is readily available to answer any questions or assist with any problems.
Merida is an active city with lots of museums, restaurants, shops and plenty of activities. The house is perfectly located so that everything is within walking distance. A car is not necessary unless you wish to take day trips to the cenotes, Mayan ruins or visit other pueblos. If you choose to wander and don’t have a vehicle, many trips are available to take you different places by bus with excellent guides.
I took advantage of my time in Merida to study Spanish at La Calle, an excellent language school with walking distance of the casa. The people at the school and, in fact, all of Merida were warm, friendly and accommodating.
I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, that this is the best place we have ever rented on our many vacations. If you are visiting Merida you can not go wrong by staying in this wonderful house.

Wonderful house and great location!
Loved our 9 day stay here! It’s a beautiful little house and has everything you need. It quickly felt like home. We cooked breakfast several mornings before taking day trips to ruins and cenotes. But it’s close enough to walk to endless restaurants on Paseo de Montejo and Calle 60. We walked to late dinners and to the theater on most nights and always felt comfortable on the local streets. Would be happy to stay here again on our next trip to Merida!

Our Stay in Merida
My sister and I had planned a trip to Merida for Dia de los Muertos. There was some information about the Dia de los Muertos activities on the Internet, but what we found when arriving in Merida were cancelled events and inaccurate information.
The place where we stayed was OK. It was fairly centrally located. The beds were not comfortable and the neighborhood noisy. In addition, to access the bedroom in the upper level, you had to use a very steep spiral staircase, which could prove to be a safety issue. This had not been clearly indicated in the description of the home. However the local agent was very helpful as was the owner of the home.
I think when traveling in this area, it is best to focus on experiencing the Mayan ruins, which are quite wonderful.

Excellent location in a nice neighborhood
My husband and I had a comfortable stay at Barbara's house. It is located in a safe, quiet neighborhood, and it is walkable to most things in centro, including excellent restaurants. The living and kitchen areas are small, but functional and nicely decorated. We wanted to use the larger bedroom upstairs, but it is located outside off the patio and access to it is by a narrow, spiral staircase. It was difficult to manage with our suitcases and occasional rain. So we stayed in the downstairs bedroom, also located outside the main living area, on the other side of the plunge pool. Both bedrooms are large, nicely decorated and comfortable. The tile walkway between the main living area and the downstairs bedroom is slippery, however, if water is on it. The roof above the walkway had a leak when we were there. Barbara said she would fix the roof. I would not recommend this house for small children due to the spiral staircase and slippery tile near the outdoor patio should they walk on it barefoot after exiting the pool. The tile around the pool is cement, however, and therefore not slippery. We enjoyed our stay in this quiet neighborhood.

A beautiful base for exploring Merida
We had a lovely week in this supremely comfortable and very stylish house. We enjoyed exploring the streets, markets, museums, churches and cafés of Merida in the mornings, and then returning to the calm and very welcome cool of the pool and fanned and air-conditioned rooms for lazy lengthy siestas every afternoon. Our visit was in late May and it was baking hot every day, reaching 40 degrees and higher - we couldn't have survived the heat without this haven!
At sunset, we would head out again for dinner and walking around. Merida puts on great and free Mayan or Mexican dancing and/or singing almost every evening attended by large numbers of locals and visiting Mexicans, many of whom know all the tunes. Fascinating not just for the cultural exposition but also for people watching.
We found many good cafes and restaurants - our favourite daytime cafes included our 'local' Latte 47 (for its chic western-style atmosphere, food and drinks), Cafe Habana for its film-set type 'scene', Hotel Caribe in Plaza Hidalgo for the best freshly squeezed orange juice in Merida, and Cafe Montejo in Santiago (for its charming staff, courtyard setting and amazing crushed ice frappes). Our favourite Mexican restaurants were La Chaya Maya, Apoala and the inventive Rosa Sur 32, all in/around Parque de Santa Lucia, about 15 mins walk. For a change of cuisine we liked Oliva Enoteca (excellent Italian, a couple of blocks from the house), Botella Verde (delicious tapas in a charming garden setting, also close by), and Papuana (good Peruvian, same side of Parque de Santa Lucia as La Chaya Maya).
Thank you Barbara and friends. And also many thanks to their excellent local property managers, Mirza and Erich, who were always on hand, and speedily and very graciously fixed a couple of minor maintenance issues with minimum fuss and inconvenience.

Wonderful week @ Casa de Florencia
We had a wonderful stay at beautiful Casa de Florencia this week. The house is ideally located, on a quiet street near the centro historico, and comfortably accommodated our group of 6 adults. The house is well-equipped for meal preparation-or not... There are many great restaurants within walking distance. Both Barbara, the owner, and Mirza, the on site manager, were extremely helpful- our pre-arrival questions were addressed right away, and a minor plumbing issue during our stay was dealt with promptly. Having a 'house' cell phone was a useful feature for calling restaurants and reserving taxis. With temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius several afternoons during our stay, we really appreciated the plunge pool and the shaded courtyard. We had booked several day trips (Celestun, Chichen Itza and Uxmal) with Destino Tours and Alex, our driver and guide, was amazing.. and fun! The roof terrace was worth the climb up a spiral staircase- we had breakfast up there several times in the cool of the morning. We booked Chef Marcos for a multi-course dinner one night, learned a lot about the typical ingredients of the Yucatan-and the food was delicious! We all agree it was a super experience all round- we'd stay at Casa de Florencia again!

Lovely renovated home
My husband and I and a friend recently stayed at this pretty home in Merida. Barbara, the owner, was prompt and helpful in all emails before our arrival, and during our stay. Erick, the property manager, was helpful and responsive. The house was very nicely appointed and comfortable. The internet was excellent. We had some wonderful day trips to surrounding areas with William Lawson Tours, which were recommended by Barbara and Erik. The driver and chef recommended by Barbara and Erik were also excellent. The only thing that keeps me from giving the home four stars is the location - we like to walk, but wish that we had been a few blocks closer to either the Cathedral area, or Calle 60. We were close to the Paseo de Montejo, but there wasn't as much going on there as there was along Calle 60 and near the Cathedral. Another thing that we'd wished for would have been a heated pool, which I know is not the norm in Mexico, but it would have been nice, as I found it too cold to swim. Maybe a thermal blanket would help, as the air temperature was certainly hot.

Casa La Florencia
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this Merida home. It is roomy, clean, secure and convenient to all the city has to offer. Cab service is excellent, very reasonable, knowledgeable. We were so impressed with the care we received from the owner, via email and the managers Mirza and Erik. Nice cool-off pool. Great food at Oliva restaurant just a walk away. Had wonderful pyramid/hacienda/cenote tours with Alex of Destino Tours. Overall, a truly super place to stay. Highly recommend.

WONDERFUL CASA!
Stayed for 9 nights in this casa. We were a party of 3 adults in Merida for a trip to experience this welcoming, safe Colonial city and the Mayan ruins and culture. The casa has everything you need to be happy and comfortable, a true home away from home. The location is great for walking(we didn't rent a car). Taxis are inexpensive and we used them when we were tired. Clean, great beds and real linen sheets!!! Didn't need to use AC as the casa has powerful ceiling fans that I wish I had in my own home. Nice, elegant design, colors, furniture, pool, hammocks!!!! washer/dryer, endless bottled water.
From the initial communications with Barbara and the booking process to the arrival and stay at the home where Mirza met us and was available by a cell phone that belongs to the casa. Just fantastic!!
I highly recommend this property and I would stay in it again if I return to Merida, which I would like to.
Also highly recommended: William Lawson tours to the Mayan Ruins, cenotes, Hacienda tour, and many other tours available. We spent 4 days with them and it was wonderful.
Our favorite restaurants: Oliva Kitchen, Mercado 60, Wayan-e, Apoala, Casa San Angel for breakfast, La Chaya Maya, Pistache Patisseriie Boulangerie for coffee, breakfast,
Thank you Barbara, Mirza, and beautiful Merida!

Beautiful and well appointed Property!
Casa di Florencia is beautifully renovated, with an excellent blend of modern touches while respecting the original finishes and features of the property. The property is nicely appointed with everything you'll need for your stay. Just buy some groceries and you're all set! The guide book provided in the Casa has great information with insights and activities.
The support you'll have during your stay is 5+ Star Excellence! Barbara, the owner, and her Local Team in Merida took great care of me during my stay and helped with any questions I had.
The property is spotless, welcoming and comfortable, and you'll feel right at home. There are 2 beautiful master suites with this property, and an additional pull out bed in the reading room. One master suite is located poolside and the other master suite is upstairs. Every room has air conditioning and ceiling fans. I opted to sleep in the upper master suite, accessible by a spiral staircase.
It was great to enjoy a dip in the plunge pool after a day of sight-seeing and relax on the poolside deck, or on the deck off the upper level master suite with a glass of wine.
The property is located in Centro Historico. You can walk to downtown as I did the first day. There is so much to do and see in Merida, so I opted to rent a car for my stay. Parking is available right across the street from the Casa.
Merida is a Cosmopolitan City with friendly and welcoming people. There are many great restaurants and lots of activities to enjoy.
I will definitely be coming back for another visit and look forward to staying in Casa di Florencia again.
Thank you for a wonderful adventure!

Sophisticated beautiful home!
We enjoyed our stay at Casa de Florencia very much! Mirza met us at the property and she was extremely helpful, even leaving a cell phone if we needed one. The home's decor is beautiful, bright, and clean - plus it is walking distance to almost everything. The bottled water in every bathroom and dispenser in the kitchen was much appreciated. I brought my three teenage boys and they were thrilled to see the house was set up with wifi and Netflix. The kitchen is nice and spacious & fully equipped. We primarily made breakfast every morning.
Our quick vacation of 6 days was definitely jammed packed with outings. We visited Uxmal, Cementerio General, swam in the cenotes, and visited Celestun. It was so nice to come back after a long hot excursion to swim in the pool and then walk to dinner at Plaza Santa Lucia. There are shops, banks, corner markets and restaurants close by.
Barbara and Mirza were a pleasure to work with - even going the extra mile to mail back my son's watch that he forgot in the house. We absolutely fell in love with this beautiful home and Merida!! We'll be back.

The property is beautiful. The on line pictures and discription do not do it justice.
We truly enjoyed our stay in Merida. The Casa could not have been better. It is close to wonderful restaurants ( Oliva) and within walking distance of numerous sites of local and historic interest. Merida is a city which we found welcoming and safe to walk at any time day or night. The locals, both Mexicans and expats were helpful, without exception. This is just a great destination for a Mexican experience without the hustle of a tourist location. DK 4/16

Enchanting house in Merida
We stayed in the Casa for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed everything it has to offer. The house is beautifully decorated, modern, and has excellent indoor and outdoor spaces. The kitchen was fully equipped, it has 3 full baths, and the bedrooms were quiet and spacious. The interior courtyard and pool combined with the balcony off one bedroom put this house over the top. The location was ideal for walking the few blocks to the city centro. We had no trouble parking in front of the house. Mirza even provided us with a cell phone in case we needed to get a hold of her during our stay.

Beautifully Stylish Home Away From Home!
Casa de Florencia provided a cool oasis for me and my family while we were on holiday in Merida. Barbara and Mirza were excellent hosts that were there to help with anything we needed with calm efficiency. The home is a fantastic mix of contemporary and colonial features, and is a liveable example of what Merida's architecture has to offer. It is only ten minutes away from some of the best restaurants and plazas in Merida which make Casa de Florencia a great base for exploration.
For me personally, the only difficulties I had were to get in and out of the bedroom and bathroom as I use a wheelchair. The house would be excellent for an elderly person or someone with limited mobility but the doors are extremely narrow - also typical of the most beautiful homes in Merida. Even though the property was slightly unsuitable for me, Mirza and Barbara were happy to accommodate in any way they could. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa de Florenica for all of its charm, ease and location.
