About this docked boat rental
Back in the 1600s ! : Your houseboat is moored with its South view on one of the most romantic and peaceful canals, surrounded by a XVIIth century architecture and the Carillon of Zuiderkerk (1614) painted by Claude Monet (1874).
The houseboat is for 2 guests with a king size bed 2m/1m80 with its overhead window for watching stars, surrounded by a paintings gallery and its large Louis XV mirror reflecting the South windows over the canal.
You will appreciate being located in the historical area of Nieuwmarkt, 5 minutes walking distance from Central Station or 40 meters from the metro station 'Nieuwmarkt', close by the tram lines 2, 4, 11, 12, 14 and 24, and the metro line 52 at Rokin station.
The hull (Praam type) and the original structure were built during "La Belle Epoque" in 1898, making it one of the oldest boats in Amsterdam. The last renovation took place in 2010 for the hull doubling and 2019 for the house but respecting its historical charm.
Two times, the City Hall of Amsterdam gave to the boat the price of the most beautiful garden of the center.
Wifi by internet cable.

My fiancee and myself really enjoyed our stay at this accommodation, having an entire houseboat to ourselves in the middle of the historical city center was a great experience. We never had to travel far to get to the main sites to see and whenever we got tired of all the hussle and bussle of this massive city we had a place entirely to ourselves to retire in for the rest of the day.
I thought the stay was very cozy and in general the houseboat was a great venue with its excentric design both in its interior and the exterior garden.
One thing however i think i should mention is that it is very clear that this is infact someones home and not exclusively used as a guest accomodation. The homeowners things, namely toiletries, kitchen supplies, books and records were still very present on the houseboat.
Although this was not an issue in any way as It did not bother us at all during our stay, it was just a funny detail i thought i should mention.
The owner and hosts are very helpful with communication both before and during the check in, everything was nicely explained and we got lovely recommendations for museums and local restaurants. We also had the opportunity to remain in contact should we need anything during our stay but luckily did not need it.
Still it was great to have such a friendly and communicative host. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would certainly come back!

Overall great location and price. My husband suffers from allergies and it wasn't transparent there was a cat that lives there when guests aren't there. Also would have appreciated more flexibility and conciseness of the check-in process since we were internationally traveling there from the states and unable to check-in earlier upon a red-eye early morning arrival then we had to meet in person which was very long and interactive.

Everything was very crowded. It smelled old and musty. The inner cover of the bedding had stains so we took them out. The bathroom was clean. Good for an adventure vacation. It rained on Friday and if it had continued to rain we would have left. We only went to the houseboat to sleep and shower. By the way, the houseboat is for sale. We left a day early..

Don't expect hotel amenities, but it was a fun adventure and we enjoyed our stay.Great location, close to many sites. Good restaurants within walking distance. Managers very helpful.

We had a wonderful time staying here with such a unique experience. It allowed us to integrate with the local culture and vibe of the area.

I really enjoyed staying on a Canal. I wanted an adventure but not of the wild red light district variety. Just something different. Well this was perfect for that. The space is very quirky, lights all over the place, a ships style bathroom which means the bathroom itself is the shower to save space… Tapestries cover the walls, funny little art objects. It was most unusual and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Boat tours do pass right by, but only a few in the afternoon. The canal is narrow and the street very quiet and peaceful. The one thing in the listing that is a bit misleading is that there is no outdoors space to enjoy. There's a small table with wired chairs, not very comfortable and not at all private. so Expect to spend your entire time sitting inside the boat and looking out the giant window at the water and the ducks and the occasional boat.

This Houseboat is one of the most unique and interesting places I have ever stayed. The decor is truly unique and amazing and the location is superb.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The location is fantastic!!! Many of the canals can have a lot of foot and bike traffic, especially at night. This location is close to everything, but on a quiet canal. We loved the funky old boat, but I would caution that the photos might be unintentionally misleading. This boat is fun and funky -not elegant. Think “70s kitsch” - tapestries, mismatched prints, space blankets on the ceiling. The bed was good, the other furniture rather uncomfortable. There is no outdoor space, but the windows open out and you can sit and watch the boats and birds go by. The boat could use some simple upgrades - towels are terrible and they offer only two rather beat up pillows (we took pillows off the chairs for bolsters). It’s a boat, so it’s going to be a bit damp. Because of the way it’s appointed, it’s a bit dusty. That said, excellent location, value for the money, and a unique experience for more adventurous travelers.

We enjoyed the location tremendously; and, staying on the boat added a charming ambiance to our Amsterdam experience. On the other hand, it is very tattered, dated, rickety and an electrical nightmare. Extension cords and hidden switches everywhere and very dimly lit. Floors covered with throw rugs that all overlap; the walls and ceilings covered with fabric that has been stapled on. And, used toilet paper cannot be flushed down the toilet. So, if you don't mind dealing with all the oddities, go for it. Just don't expect anything "normal" in this boat. It's an extremely unique experience staying here. My husband and I agree that we are glad we stayed on the boat but would not stay there on a return trip.

Lovely and convenient location in a quiet neighborhood. Keep in mind you will be staying on an old boat with a very boho interior. Depending on one's age and experience, you may find the accommodations delightful or not so much. It is definitely NOT like staying in a hotel room, so certain amenities you might expect will be lacking. For instance, the towels are not great and the place is heated with two space heaters, and it is dusty and a bit rickety in places. But the bathroom is reasonably clean as is the galley. I will admit that it was cold and rainy for all five nights we were on the boat, so that made for a slightly less comfortable stay. BUT it's a really interesting and authentic Amsterdam experience, and as I said, you can't beat the location. And it's kind of wonderful to have your own little "house" to retreat to with swans and ducks swimming by and a carillon ringing.
4.6
The location for walking was great. Each day 7 swans swam by plus ducks. Few boat tours cruised by and it’s fun to wave at them or raise a glass of wine to toast them. Fun times. Very comfortable bed too. Thanks for a very pleasant stay.

I spent a few nights at this houseboat with my boyfriend and we were really impressed by the interior design, so cozy, and artistic! We felt like being in the house of an artist from the 19th century. The position is also great, in a canal in the very center of the city, but still quiet at night. Hosts were nice and overall we enjoyed very much staying there. Definitely recommended.
4.6
Within walking distance to lots of local attractions!

Not for people with allergies or asthma. No place to unpack. The outside door lock felt pretty iffy. There was no patio per ad. Loads of cute light fixtures but only one bright enough to read by. The furniture was tattered. Be prepared, used TP must go in the bin. Small canal party boats cruised by until midnight
Felt like you were staying in a hoarder's grubby old apartment. We slept there one night and left. Though the host and VRBO listened to our complaints, unfortunately, neither acted on their concern for renter satisfaction.
4.6
Everything was great and as expected. It is a houseboat, so expect a few “quirks” and you’ll love it.

Location was great & it was very quiet. But the entire unit needs major updating! Furniture had holes in the armrests & the cushions were very sunken. There were throw rugs everywhere which could be dangerous. Lighting was poor. Nothing matched! No t.v., just a computer with 1 chair to watch. No decent coffee maker. Would not book again.
4.6
We arrived and left. Place smelt. 3 small threadbare towels. Pillows smelt sweaty and used. Hairs on pillow cases. Clothes in wardrobe. Cupboard door fell off. I’m insufficient mugs. Stain on sheet.

Positives:
Canal viewing and people watching was great, better than TV! Ambience is fantastic. Location is great. It’s dark and quiet at night. Lots of good mood lighting on-board.
There was one plumbing mishap that took half a day to resolve, but the owner took care of it very quickly and efficiently.
Not so Positive:
The unenclosed shower means you have to totally dry the bathroom after showering. It would have been better to have known this ahead of time. Also, it would have been good to know ahead of time that toilet paper needs to go in the bin, not the toilet.
Overhead lights in the kitchen were not operable. The furniture is older and needs to be re-upholstered.
The interior is in need of a thorough cleaning. We washed every utensil, dish, or glass before using it. Lights and fixtures need to be dusted.
There was no place to put our suitcases or clothing to unpack — we had to use two chairs as a place for our clothes. That was fine and we adapted, but it was not as expected.
Overall, we felt that this was a very unique and special experience. We are glad that we stayed. However, on reflection, the price per night was over-priced for the overall experience. We would not stay again for the price that we paid.

We enjoyed our stay in the houseboat. It was in a central neighborhood and a unique way to enjoy Amsterdam.

The houseboat was a real character. It was cozy on rainy days and cool when it was hot outside. Frédéric was really nice and helpful in making recommendations. This houseboat had everything we needed.
4.6
The property was pretty much as described and it is unique and fun in its own way. The location is good, convenient to Metro and some surprisingly good restaurants very close. However, We stayed 7 nights and that’s too much at a place like this. Be prepared for lots of street noise, and an old creaky boat. The experience could be improved with better linens, a fan and simple improvements to the lighting. Interesting property but we would not do it again.
4.6
The houseboat was great. We totally enjoyed our stay. The king size bed was very comfortable and kitchen well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, glasses, etc. Hot water was great. Host was very helpful and had some terrific restaurant and grocery/wine store recommendations. Neighborhood is super! The Waterlooplein flea market is very close and there are plenty of great restaurants and shops close-by. The street where houseboat is located is very quiet. The only thing that I would recommend would be to bring your own bath towels as the ones provided are quite small. This is not a criticism - just a personal preference. Overall highly recommended! Would stay again!!!

So to everything and so cute and quaint. Would totally love staying here again someday! Felt really bad when we realized we left some cheese in the refrigerator when we were in a hurry to get out. Wanted to leave it as perfect as it was when we got there.

What a wonderful experience! The canal boat was a great way to stay in Amsterdam. Swans greeting you in the morning, the spring tulips in bloom… It was just what I had hoped.
4.6
Very congenial helpful host. The houseboat has every thing needed for a stay.
4.6
We had a wonderful stay on the houseboat. Lionel explained everything to us on arrival so we had no trouble at all enjoying the floating accommodation with its many tulips. In the morning you are greeted by the swan and ducks, later you greet passing tourists on the boats yourself - it was very entertaining and amusing!
It was a great holiday - thanks to Lionel!

Great location and atmosphere, as pictured, easy of sights and shopping

This houseboat was there r for my short stay in Amsterdam. It’s central location was key and it had all of the comforts of home. Couldn’t ask for more.
4.6
One of the most unusual places one could rent. It has character in a funky sort of way. A houseboat with all kinds of eclectic decor that you will never see together anywhere else. Very interesting!! Great location and the church bells nearby ring regularly between 9 am and 11 pm.
4.6
Great location. Interesting and eclectic. A good fun base from which to explore AMS, with a Metro stop close by.
Only hand towels provided.
Not a problem for us - but clients should be aware that used toilet paper is not put in to the wc, but deposited in to the bin that is provided.
4.6
A very unique stay on an old houseboat. Eclectic interior with a comfortable king size bed.

Very kind owner who showed us the unique details of living on his boat. Utterly charming. If you want a boring hotel stay don’t pick this place. If you want to stay in a bohemian jazz den tucked in a canal near the heart of Amsterdam, you’ve found the place. There are many many lamps and it takes a while to learn where all the switches are. Part of the fun.
4.6
Great location and we really enjoyed our stay. Quiet neighborhood but close to many bars and restaurants. We hit a local grocery close by as well. Sadly Rembrandt House was closed, because it’s very nearby.
4.6
Awesome boat located in the best location ever as other people mentioned. The street itself is super quiet and peaceful, yet the nearby streets are lively and full of shops and people. I literally walked everywhere and only took the train twice. It was amazing being woken up by swans and ducks every time. This was my 3rd time in Amsterdam and it was the best experience so far mainly because of staying in a houseboat! It is truly the best way to fully experience Amsterdam. Thanks Lionel & Frederique for your assistance and hospitality!

Great property which enabled you to relax. Close to everything.
4.6
Perfect location. Boat was cosy and comfortable. Great communication from the host, with good recommendations in the local area.
4.6
Difficult to find, but Amsterdam is that way. Nice location, idiosyncratic decor, not much room for luggage. In a word, funky.

Quant houseboat in a safe area and walking distance to everything in Amsterdam. It was truly a unique and wonderful experience staying there.
