About this house rental
Located at the beginning of a cove with a sandy beach, Willie's Retreat (formerly Sandy Shores) offers an outstanding main lake view.
Renamed after the recent loss of our beloved mother who so loved this home!
This renovated home (June 2016) offers two levels, a patio, deck, and dock. Main level has an open floor plan with kitchen, dining area and great room with a 55" smart TV. There are 3 bedrooms, and 2.5 baths. All three bedrooms face the lake and access the new deck.
Please see the end of this for a few items that have since this posting need to be addressed.
The living area has an L-shaped couch, a brand new (2018) queen sleeper sofa, and two chairs with a small table. There is also a coffee bar with a keurig, and filtered coffee maker.
The lower level has an open room with an A.M. kitchen (sink, refrigerator, microwave) and a breakfast bar with stools. There is a sitting room with a 55" TV, pool table, half bath and day bed with trundle. We also have a single blow up mattress available for your use.
You can access the lake, deck and dock from this first floor. Part of the shoreline has a natural sandy beach for everyone to access the water. You may use the dock and slip. The master bedroom has a King bed and a single pull out sleeper/chair, and the other two bedrooms have Queen beds. High speed internet (well, as high as you can get in this area). No Smoking and some pets. Ask first.
The TVs have Hulu live and Netflix.
The dock has a boat lift (6,000 lb capacity) and a jet ski lift which can be used at your own risk. There are three smaller kayaks for use as well.
I have been asked often about the dock and the depth of the lake. We are in a cove. The depth off our dock is over 6 feet and quickly goes deeper. You can dive and jump off the dock, but not off the boathouse.
We have a boat lift, but a Pontoon boat will not fit in the lift area although it can be tied up to the dock.
Fishing off our dock is decent - smaller trout and bass, some larger cat fish. One of our renters just told us that they caught enough bass for dinner! You will often see fishermen come into the cove to fish.
We are also asked often about a boat ramp. We have an accessible boat ramp in the neighborhood which is about a mile from our house. This boat ramp is for our neighborhood only, (yes, you can use it since you are staying in our neighborhood!)
We sit on a little more than an acre, with perfect space to tuck your trailer away for the weekend or week.
The yard (landscape) is still under work - we did have the path completed all the way to the water and dock; however, due to constant water washing everything away, we are redoing the walkway with cement. Part of it still has to be completed, however, we need time when renters are not here to complete that.

We have been vacationing at Lake Gaston every year for the past 10 years and this home was, by far, the best overall house/location we have ever stayed! The house had beautiful views of the lake from every room. It had plenty of supplies, dishes, dinnerware, etc. Pretty much everything you will need, besides the food, is provided! Emily was very responsive to messages and very accommodating.. She even rents 3 paddle boards for a fraction of the cost it would cost you to rent at other places! We plan on renting this again in upcoming years!

We had our first visit to Lake Gaston, and it was absolutely wonderful! The spot was perfect, and the kids had a blast with the beach access to the lake.

We loved this property! Emily was great and very accommodating!! She was very quick to address any questions/concerns we had. The house was awesome - very spacious and open with great views of the lake. We also enjoyed the game room downstairs. We loved how the cove was right off the main lake. We'll definitely stay at this home again.

Great property overall - setup well for family stays - clean and well-organized. Lots of play options for kids and adults. Would stay again. Only negative was the pathway to water was under construction and unusable to roll a large kayak down to the water safely.

Very well stocked and thought out rental. We were very comfortable, the rules were laid out in very specific detail as to not have any questions which I appreciate.
Every room has a view and my favorite spot was the living room with all the curtains open at sunrise.

The description and reviews of this property were exactly as stated. The house was exceptionally clean, well stocked and great for a family gathering. Several of us "lived" on the dock, fishing everyday, catching some large bluegill, catfish and white bass. This was exactly what we were looking for. Thank you to Emily for making this available.

Our stay at Willies Retreat was awesome. We loved the view of the lake from every room in the home. The living area was open and spacious. The kitchen had everything we needed. The weather was so nice we spent most of it time boating, jet skiing and swimming. The use of the boat lift really helped to make our vacation stress free. Our family also enjoyed the kayaks. This was one of the most beautiful vacations we have been on. We will come back again.

My family and I had a wonderful stay at this property. The location was amazing, the property owner was so kind and generous! We had everything we needed for a relaxing week on the lake. The house was beautiful and so spacious with amenities galore! We cooked every night and enjoyed coffee every morning on the dock with a gorgeous view! The pool table and gaming console were a hit for the family, my son even hooked a 3 ft. Gar from the dock! (It chewed through the line but we got it on video) The beds were amazingly comfortable since sleep was something we really needed it was greatly appreciated! Thank you Emily for a wonderful lake vacation we hope to be back again soon!

So glad we returned for a second stay.. The house has everything you would want and it is so comfortable and welcoming. We missed the albino deer but saw lots of its compatriots. And you could not have a better spotfrom which to watch a thunderstorm on the lake.

The home is private and well maintained. Also well furnished. We had everything we needed while there for the weekend. The cove is just off main lake which made access to the lake easy while still being away from the busier areas. The fire pit was awesome at night with great lake views. We had great weather but this house has games and activities available if the weather keeps you inside. Very good overall experience.

The view from the house, the deck and the boathouse is beautiful...you'll want to stay there and never leave. We had a wonderful time fishing, kayaking, playing pool, eating a lot, and being with family. This is a great location! The neighborhood is beautiful, the house is great, the amenities are what you'd hope for and then some. Highly recommend...and the owner is awesome to work with.

This was our favorite stay so far in a vacation rental. The views and property were amazing. We visited in December looking for family time and quiet. We did puzzles, made meals, enjoyed the view hung out on the dock and had a campfire. It was exactly what we were looking for. We hope to do it again soon!

The house was Absolutely Beautiful on the inside.
Everything was so clean and organized and the beds were super comfortable.
We saw alot of deer on the property in the early morning hours and meet the neighbor who was very friendly. We also caught a glimpse of the Albino Deer at the Frisbee Golf Park down the street.
We took the home owners advice and tried a few of the local spots for dinners.
Watersview Restaurant was our Favorite.
The Asian Wings there are Amazing.
We also checked out the Crytozoology Museum which was very small but interesting and the Sylvan Heights Bird Park. The Bird Park was an hour away but worth the visit.
We also Rented a Pontoon Boat from Stonehouse Timber Lodge for a reasonable price of $320.00 for the day from 9:00-5:00.
It was a very good deal and all the Pontoon Boats were the new 2021 models.
My family and I will definitely be visiting again soon.

This property had gorgeous views! You could see the lake from every bedroom in the house! They had a full kitchen and plenty of places to sit and relax both inside and outside. The owners were very kind and communicated well! We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here with our kids, grandkids and parents. It is a beautiful house, fantastic wooded neighborhood and the lake is stunning. Very well supplied with everything you could need. We will be returning.

This is a beautiful home that has been decorated beautifully inside, and the linens are of great quality! Beds were comfortable, and there were many options for sleeping accommodations! The house was well stocked. The owners were great at communicating! However, the grass had not been cut for one month (according to the owner) and it was very "snakey" ! We were afraid someone was going to step on a snake in the evening, since it is a heavily wooded area. The outside of the house needs the same attention as the inside has recently received. We were invited to use the ping pong table in the garage, but it looked like a bomb had gone off in there; and it was full of spider webs and dirt. I'm sure with guests using it all summer, and the owners not visiting in awhile, this was to be expected. The price was great.... so we are happy with our stay!

We’ve rented this property for 2 years in a row now. The house comfortably fits our family of 11. The neighbors are amazing and super kind! We enjoy spending time with them as well. Communication with the owners is always a breeze. We enjoyed using the kayaks and fishing from the dock. More than likely we will rent it again! Thanks for the stay!

What a wonderful home in a perfect location for a relaxing family getaway. Pictures don’t do this place justice. Floor plan is perfect for families and so accommodating. Plenty to keep the kids busy. Wish we could have stayed longer. Would recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy the Lake Life. Will definitely consider staying again.

This home is beautiful, very well stocked and has an amazing view of the lake from every room of the house. We enjoyed swimming by the dock and taking our boat out during the day. At night we enjoyed reading, a movie or a game of pool downstairs. There was plenty of room for our family of 5 to spread out. Leslie was very responsive to questions. We enjoyed our stay so much! Highly recommend!

Great location for jet skiing, tubing, etc!
We enjoyed our stay at Willie’s Retreat! The house is clean, nicely decorated, well equipped, and provided many kitchen essentials (spices, oils, bags, etc). We enjoyed jet skiing and swimming during the day, and playing pool and sitting around the fire pit at night. The local albino deer visits the property regularly which was an added bonus!! The sunsets were absolutely stunning. The owner was quick to answer questions before our stay. The 4 vs 5 stars for cleanliness is only because the patio furniture was dirty and in disarray when we arrived, but the inside of the house was spotless. We would definitely stay here again.
