About this house rental
Maluhia ma ka Honua is Hawaiian for "Peace on Earth" and that is what you will find in this beautiful house located just a 40 second walk to the ocean and just four houses from the famous Brennecke's Beach in Poipu Beach Park.
The question everyone asks themselves as they leave the airport and drive to Poipu is “Did I rent a good house?” Just before you arrive at our house, your first thought will be “WOW! THE OCEAN IS REALLY CLOSE!” As you turn up Nalo Road you can't really see the house well because the beautiful white Plumeria trees are in bloom, and they hide the house a bit. Open the front door, remove your shoes, step into the entry, and then it hits you "WOW! This house is big and gorgeous and well furnished!" Then it really hits you, “This may be better than home!”
You immediately stare at the 14' high vaulted wood ceiling, then you open the five sliding doors into this great room, and it is almost like living outdoors as the cooling trade winds that make Kauai so special waft through the room from three sides and the three ceiling fans cool the room further. In this great room there is a fully equipped modern kitchen, a casual eating bar for four, a glass oval dining table for eight under a beautiful chandelier, a game table for two, and entertainment seating for seven! Outside under the 1300 sq. ft. covered lanai two more dining tables with four chairs each and casual seating for six. Imagine sunrise coffee under the east lanai and sunset cocktails under the west lanai. On the large rear lawn, imagine your children playing or sunbathing on the chaise lounges if you don't feel like walking the few steps to the beach.
Each bedroom has three-sided ventilation and a ceiling fan that normally keeps the bedroom so cool that blankets are needed for sleeping. The spacious downstairs master bedroom suite has a king-size pillow top bed and oversized bamboo bedroom furniture with a television, a large walk-in closet, and two glass sliding doors leading to the covered lanai and the lawn. Its private bathroom has two lavatories, an oversized glass block and tile shower, a two-person Jacuzzi tub, and a separate toilet compartment. The heated outdoor shower is just outside this bathroom.
The equally large upstairs master bedroom is almost identical to the one downstairs except this one has a vaulted wood ceiling and a nice ocean view balcony. Over the bed is an original oil painting of Hawaii by famed artist Ezra Muir. The bathroom is identical to the downstairs bathroom except it has a two-person soaking tub.
The third bedroom is the largest bedroom and has a great ocean view. It has two twin beds that can be converted to a king bed, a vaulted wood ceiling and rattan furniture. Its bathroom has one lavatory, a toilet and a tub/shower.
The fourth bathroom is the powder room downstairs complete with a tiled shower. The laundry room features a washer, dryer, and a soaking sink.
This house is equipped with everything you need. All kitchen and bathroom needs, all laundry needs, linens, beach towels, beach chairs are provided. You might even find previous guests have left sand toys, boogie boards, and/or snorkeling gear.
Come to Poipu and experience a true Hawaiian beach experience! Like the Hawaiians, come to the beach, gather at the sand, and spend hours 'talking story'. Use the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean as your swimming pool. Laugh and enjoy the weather and life. Maluhia ma ka Honua was designed to offer an old Hawaiian beach experience with all the modern amenities and comfort and with the ocean as our swimming pool because it is so close to the house. Isn't this why you are coming to Poipu, for the weather, the beach, and the ocean?
Previous guests have responded by loving this house and having some of the best family vacations of their lives. Maybe it is the Aloha that resides within the house because of the blessings during construction. Or maybe it is the floor plan that has plenty of private places for two or more people to sit and 'talk story' like the Hawaiians. Or maybe it is the location, just a 40 second walk to the ocean and two minutes stroll to swimming and sunning at Brennecke's Beach in Poipu Beach Park. Whatever the reason, they have left behind hundreds of warm comments in our guestbook, and you can see every one of them by clicking on our 'Guest Comments' section.
'Maluhia ma ka Honua' (Peace on Earth) is a private, luxurious Kauai rental vacation home located just steps to the oceanfront at Poipu Beach Park on the south shore of Kauai. It is a great home for family vacations or for very private Kauai honeymoons after a romantic Hawaiian wedding. 'Maluhia ma ka Honua' was built in 1998 and it has been rented by over a thousand families since then. It is a luxurious 2650 square foot beach house designed with the feel of an original plantation and detailed, decorated, and appointed to perfection. Beneath a vaulted, fan-cooled ceiling, the large, modern kitchen and the huge great room open to the surrounding 1300 square foot covered lanai. Three spacious bedrooms each have a large, private bathroom, and every room is cross ventilated for comfort.
Two wonderful casual restaurants are within 5 minutes’ walking distance and at least 20 others are within a mile. Two resorts with Robert Trent Jones golf courses are within one mile.
This house is 'value priced' to give you a first-class Kauai vacation at an affordable cost. You will spend so much time and money just getting to Kauai, and the rental cars and meals can be expensive. You deserve to stay in a really nice home and Maluhia ma ka Honua is nice enough that it would easily rent for $800/night if it were one house closer to the ocean. So come and take advantage of this great value and enjoy this spectacular house.
FAQ:
1. Why don't we have A/C. A/C is needed by the boxy small houses and condos that don't have adequate cross ventilation to catch the cooling trade winds. Our property manager tells us we can charge $100 more per night with A/C, but the house really doesn't need it except for a few Kona Wind days.
2. Why don't we have a pool? We have room for a pool, but that would also raise the rent by about $100/night. Since we have the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean at our doorstep, we thought people would rather have an affordable first-class vacation and experience the uniqueness of Kauai instead of paying for something they can get anywhere.
3. Are you sustainable? We offer refillable soap and shampoo, reusable cleaning cloths, a reusable shopping tote, a recycling bin, LED bulbs and energy efficient appliances. You can walk to almost everything in Poipu.
4. How close is the nearest neighbor? About 50 feet on the west and north sides. About 100 feet on the east and south sides.
5. What changes have you made to deal with Covid? We offer a contactless, soothing, first-class experience. We clean the house to a higher standard than suggested by the CDC.
6. Why is your cancellation policy so strict? People make plans to come to Kauai many months in advance and very few visit Kauai "spur of the moment". So, when we get a cancellation even 60 days in advance, we have trouble filling the void and we cannot afford it, particularly after having an empty house for most of 2020 during the height of Covid.
COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS
We have always taken cleanliness very seriously and are now taking additional steps to improve our processes and procedures to help protect our guests and team. Since we already use CDC and American Hotel & Lodging Association products and procedures to clean our properties, we looked to go to the next level.
"Clean Bed" -- All linens and bedspreads are washed in accordance with CDC guidelines during each change over.
"Sterilization and Disinfection" – Our property manager has purchased new equipment and products and is emulating the major hotel companies’ cleaning processes.

The house was plenty large for the six of us. The ground and the lanai were awesome. The house was super close to the ocean, great beaches, restaurants and shopping were close also. The kitchen was well stocked, and plenty of towels and linens. We will definitely return.

The house was perfect for the four of us. Plenty of room to not feel right on top of each other. The house was very clean. The kitchen was perfect and provided everything you would need to cook a meal. I can't say enough about how great the location is. You are steps away from the ocean/beach. It is a nice area, and you feel safe walking at night. You can hear the ocean waves with the windows open in the house. There are many shops and activities close by.

We loved the house and property and it was so close to Brennecke & Poipu beaches.
The lanai was our favorite part of every night where we’d relax after dinner with drinks and music.
The owner sent recommendations for the area which were very helpful.
If you’re staying in Poipu, we’d highly recommend this property!

The house was very comfortable for three couples. Three Large bedrooms with private baths. A large eating and living area to gather together. And a very short walk to the beach.

My family and I rented this home for 7 days & loved it soo much we extended our stay! The house is beautiful inside and out. The listing mentions there isn't AC and to be honest, we really didn't miss it. Plenty of room for 6 of us to gather together for morning coffee and drinks in the evenings. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of extra blankets and pillows in each room. The house is in a great location, we walked right down to the beach every morning. We were there a week ago and there was construction going on directly across the street. We are all early risers so we didn't make too much of it. The kitchen was very well equipped, we cooked daily! This stay was wonderful and we would definitely stay here again! Communication with the owner was seamless...
Thank you Buzz, we had a great stay!

We've stayed in Buzz's house twice now and we really love it. It's a very well designed house, which is comfortable for 6 people with plenty of room for all. One important note, the property (literally) directly across the street just started a major construction project. Monday through Friday we had noisy earth moving equipment, large loud trucks and many workers. Based off the lot size and equipment, it looks likely to be a large house or small apartment building, but it currently is a flat lot with green construction fencing around it. Knowing a bit about construction I would estimate this project will continue for a minimum of 12 to as much as 24 months. There's a lot of noise and dust, which we would have liked to know in advance. Still it's a great area, but for the price, you kind of expect peace and quiet.

The house was lovely and spacious. Kitchen was very well-equipped. Lanais on 3 sides of home. Pretty, garden-like yard. Short walk to beach. You could hear the palm fronds swaying in the wind at night as well as waves crashing. Our only complaint was the lack of AC, as the (downstairs) family room did get warm in the afternoon, even with the fans. Didn’t need it upstairs as the cross-breezes made it very pleasant. All in all a great stay and we would recommend this home and we would use this home again!

My mom, my husband, and our three boys (8,6,3) just got home from staying at this fabulous home for my mom’s 70th birthday. It exceeded our expectations in every way! We loved how close it was to the beach…a quick two-minute walk to boogie-boarding and turtle/seal spotting. The upstairs bedrooms also had beautiful ocean views. The home is beautifully decorated inside, and has tropical landscaping and a large grass lawn outside. Our boys were so happy to have a place right outside to play. We loved sitting on the wrap-around patio in the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the beauty around us. The lack of AC was a non-issue, and my husband is pretty heat-sensitive. We were all very comfortable with the windows open and fans blowing. Downstairs had multiple sliders and ceiling fans which provided a great cross breeze. The home would be perfect for two families or a family and grandparents. We all had more than enough space. This truly is the best VRBO we have ever stayed in, and we hope to come back again soon!

Beautifully designed house with frankly a ridiculous amount of space! It's also a 5 minute walk to the beach, which was incredibly fun. Our group thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back.

This property needs AC! The disclaimers were not true. The entire house was very uncomfortably hot every day and deep into the night. All the bedrooms and especially the main room were very HOT. This house needs to have AC added! the ventilation and the multiple fans did not cool the house to a livable level.

The description of this property is perfect. We were here for a week of hot and sunny weather. During the day, the house was pretty toasty, but taking a cold shower before going to bed allowed for a restful sleep. The fans also muffled the ever-present crowing of roosters! There was beach gear in the garage that we used: beach chairs and some snorkeling equipment, among other items. Kitchen is well-equipped. Several times we walked the half block to the end of the road to see beautiful sunsets. The Poipu beach is only a five minute walk And Poipu is a perfect location for doing a variety of activities on the island. We began our vacation with a small boat excursion (6-person electrically powered catamaran) with Na’poli Experience and it was a great introduction to the island, even surpassing the helicopter ride we took the next day! We ended our trip with an excursion to Hanappepe, an historic town about 20 minutes way, where they have a Friday evening open house (5-8 pm) with stores, restaurants and galleries staying open late, feeling more authentic and local than the more touristy things we otherwise did while here.

We loved our stay here! The location couldn't have been better. If you want the real feel of living like a local this home will transport you there. Not having AC was not a problem as the winds blew every night and some nights I used blankets to cover up! The house is well ventilated and frankly so well built I could come downstairs for a late night snack and not wake a soul. THe rooms are large and the house is perfectly stocked! Make sure to buy a sugarloaf pineapple and some Koloa rum and make some Mai Tai's and walk the 30 yards to sit and enjoy the sunset on the waterfront as the waves crash. There is room to park one car in the garage and as well street parking was no problem. We had breakfast on the Lanai outside every morning as the birds and waves made for a perfect soundtrack. The garage was well stocked with beach chairs and toys, boogie boards, snorkel etc,. Some afternoons the house was a little warm as the sun reached the large windows but opening all the windows and letting the breeze flow made it comfortable. If you really want to experience Kauai as a local in luxury then this is the house for you! We will be back!

Wonderful home steps from the beach
What an amazing home! It’s a very short walk to Poipu Beach (best on the south shore) and close to dining/shopping options. We were 3 adults and 2 kids (ages 6 and 2). The house was perfect- lots of space to relax both indoors and outside on the lanai/grassy area (kids especially loved it). Kitchen is well stocked and they had beach items (chairs, coolers, etc). The rooms are spacious (we actually used the walk in closet for the baby to sleep in) and it was so handy each bedroom had its own bathroom, plus an extra bathroom!
Buzz was quick to reply to questions I had while booking. The property manager is now Parrish Kauai and they were fantastic during our stay! We had an issue with the key lock box upon check in (no fault of theirs, just a mechanical fluke) and they had someone out in minutes to fix it.
We had a wonderful vacation and will definitely be back! Thank you Buzz & Parrish Kauai!

Amazing location, excellent house
We loved our stay here. You’re just a few steps from the ocean with gorgeous sunsets each night. We saw a ton of sea turtles, monk seals, and fish at Poipu Beach (10 min walk with our slow kids) and loved boogie boarding at Brennecke’s (3 min walk). The house itself is very well appointed and just like the pictures show. We cooked a lot of our own meals and the kitchen has everything we need; you’re also a 5 min drive from lots of restaurants. The house can get a little warm mid-day (hopefully you’re outside then anyway) but it fully cools off at night with all the windows and fans. Highly recommended!

Location Location Location
We loved this place. We could walk to watch the beautiful sunset, see the sea turtles on the beach and walk to a couple beaches. The area is more like a local vib and not so much a tourist resort. We were there for a wedding so we visited family at a couple different resorts, condos and rentals but we would book this place again! Well stocked and clean. We enjoyed sitting out on the various patios and playing games at the table. We are an active family so we enjoyed hiking, snorkeling and boating. We did comment that if we had the grandparents with us they would have enjoyed hanging at the house. Nice place and I would totally recommend it.
Our ages are 58,59,25,22,26,24. No kids staying with us but our grandkids stopped by and it is great for kids too.

Perfect house and location
This was a last minute rental for our group as the previous rented home canceled us last minute. The saying, all things happen for a reason was a blessing as we found this perfect place! The home was very clean, had plenty of room for 6 adults with each bedroom having a bathroom! There was plenty of cookware and kitchen items. We loved the outdoor seating, plenty of it and very comfortable. The location was perfect, close to the beach where we swam and also watched sea turtles in a small bay along with the occasional sea lion sleeping. There were plenty of food trucks and restaurants close. The property manager and owner was very responsive as we needed an extra fan for one of the bedrooms and they brought it the same day! We would gladly stay here again on our next trip to this beautiful Kauai island!

Met all of Our Expectations!
I wanted a property for some relatives that had never been to Hawaii before that was near our condo in Poipu, Kauai...This home "checked all the boxes". It was beautiful, comfortable, one minute away from the best beach in Poipu (if you're a slow walker) and best of all, it was 150 feet away from our condo at Nihi Kai.
Buzz was very helpful and, unlike some dating services, the reality was better than the pictures.
Highly Recommended.

Beautiful Home
I rented this property for my husbands 60th. Traveling with three couples, I was hoping we would have enough space to not be on top of each other. This property hit all the marks. Beautiful, roomy, proximity to everything you want to do. Management company easy to work with and very accommodating. The owners of this property were very helpful and their home is amazing. We highly recommend this home. Outstanding!!!

Perfect home for a family vacation!
If you’re looking for a comfortable and spacious home within a 3 minute walk of the ocean, it doesn’t get better than this! We were 3 adults and 1 child and had plenty of space. The kitchen bar was a wonderful place to cook, talk and eat together. We loved the multiple lanais and my daughter loved doing cartwheels across the lawn. We so enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for the ideal home from which to explore the many beauties of Kauai! Thank you Buzz for sharing your wonderful home with us!

Incredible home just steps from the ocean
We come to Poipu every year for a week or so. We love Kauai and in particular the south shore. Up until now we've generally stayed at one of the Grand Hyatt Kauai. We were so impressed with Buzz's house. It was maintained beautifully with attractive decor and furnishings. The house comes with almost everything you could need including snorkel supplies, beach chairs and boogie boards. The garden is lovely and allowed us to enjoy many of our meals on the lanai. We will definitely be back as this was a very special house and location.

Beautiful house and location
The house was very spacious and bright with natural light. The rooms are separate from each other and very private. We loved how the kitchen opened up into the living room, it made every meal fun. We used the bbq and outdoor tables multiple times. Literally a block to the beach, a little further down has a surf spot and great snorkeling. about 4 blocks to a great restaurant and sandwich shop. We will definitely come back. We’ve been to Kauai 3 times now and this is our new favorite house and location.

Great house in great location
We really enjoyed the home and the close proximity to Poipu beach. We were 3 adult couples and the house was very roomy and well appointed. Each bedroom was large and had it's own on-suite bathroom. Buzz was great to deal with and responded to questions and messages very quickly. I would highly recommend this home to others and would love to return at a future date.

Perfect location and well equipped home.
Quite neighborhood within seconds to the beach. The crashing waves will put you to sleep and the roosters will greet you in the morning. So much better than a resort environment if you’re looking to detach and relax on a beautiful island.

Fantastic base to see Kauai
Renting this property made our holiday! The house is lovely and has absolutely everything you need. The (very) nearby beach is one of the best on the island for snorkelling, surfing and seeing turtles. Would highly recommend this property.

Great house, great location.
We are a family of 6, three couples, and each couple had complete privacy with their own bedroom and bathroom. Our daughter even got engaged on the beach right down the street from the house on this trip. Great property and would rent here again in our next stay on Kauai.

Many great aspects, with a couple minor drawbacks
First, the positives: awesome location; spacious, well-laid-out house; very comfortable bedrooms; nice tradewinds upstairs.
The drawbacks, in order from least important to most:
- bathrooms are very dated; fixtures can be tricky
- the *primary* photo of the property prominently features a hammock. I realize this probably sounds petty, but we discussed relaxing in the hammock together. Unfortunately, there is no hammock. After sending email and voicemail, the property manager finally got back to us 24 hours later to say that the hammock broke recently and the property owner won't be replacing it. Disappointing. And you need to update your listing to remove that photo, because it's basically false advertising.
- The property listing states the following: "Like most people, you immediately stare at the 14' high vaulted wood ceiling. Then you open the five sliding doors into this great room and it is almost like living outdoors as the cooling trade winds that make Kauai so special waft through the room from three sides and the three ceiling fans cool the room further." Unfortunately, we found this not to be true. The 3 fans in the great room barely rotate at all, and need to be replaced. The great room was sweltering for our entire stay. In contrast, the bedrooms were all super cool and comfortable, both because the trade winds are felt more on the 2nd floor and because all the bedroom fans work great.
Overall, we still give the property 4 stars. Working fans in the great room and a hammock, as promised by photos, would have resulted in 5 stars.

Amazing Property and Location
We visit Kauai annually and have stayed in a number of homes in Poipu. For us, this property stands out as the best given the quality of the home and its design, how well it is maintained, and its location so close to the state park. We were fortunate to be able to book it again for next February and look forward to our return.
