About this cabin rental
Inflation busting fall rates!! Deep discounts!! 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, hot tub, fenced yard, privacy, free parking, all under $300 per night. September through November are the absolute best time to visit the Tahoe Basin. Lower rates, no crowds, no traffic, no noise, ideal fall weather, a peaceful setting,. Perfect hiking and mountain biking conditions with trails minutes from the front door. Perfect for those traveling with their four-legged friends and two-wheeled toys.
Escape, unplug, and unwind in America's year-round playground, the Lake Tahoe Basin. Explore so much right from the front door of your own Tahoe getaway at Muskwaki Pines, situated off the beaten path, yet conveniently close to all that Tahoe has to offer.
When privacy, tranquility, and getting back to nature are the qualities you are searching for in your next getaway, then look no further. From the moment you step through the entry door, you will feel that you have found your mountain home away from home. Muskwaki Pines is nestled in one of South Shore Lake Tahoe’s best kept secret neighborhoods.
During the winter and spring months, explore the Upper Truckee River meadow on snowshoes or skinny skis. Right out the front door, this hidden jewel of natural beauty and tranquility is used primarily by neighborhood locals. Or head off to one or all of the three world class ski resorts nearby: Heavenly 15 minutes, Sierra-at-Tahoe 20 minutes, or Kirkwood, 30 minutes.
Conveniently tucked off of Pioneer Trail, this quiet area fronts the Upper Truckee River and meadow, which is a ten-minute walk from the house. The home’s peaceful setting has meadow, forest and mountain views. There is open space surrounding the property with both forest and meadow. Even though it is just fifteen minutes in any direction to Lake Tahoe’s attractions, you may not want to leave. Do not be surprised to see bears, coyotes, migratory birds, and even an occasional raccoon cruising the area.
Of course, nothing compares to Tahoe summers and winters. But , do not overlook the shoulder seasons of spring and fall, our personal favorite times of year. With spring brings the snow melt when the rivers and creeks are brimming and the meadows are verdant with grasses and wildflowers. The birds are on their migratory path north.
In the fall months, the crowds have left, the weather is a little cooler. The hiking and biking trails are at their best. The fall colors start popping. Those migratory birds are now stopping in Tahoe on their way south. There is a special sense of calm during this time of year.
Not to be overlooked are the night skies. As the city of South Lake Tahoe is obscured by forest and elevations, there is minimal light pollution. The hot tub is the perfect spot from which to gaze up at our amazing universe.
Because this home has been the owners' primary residence for over thirty years, it is well stocked with everything you will need to make this your home away from home. The interior is furnished with comfy lodge furniture and Tahoe themed artworks. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances and cooking essentials, so that you can spend more of your vacation time on vacation. The BBQ on the deck is always ready as it is hard-wired natural gas. No propane tanks to fill.
The home has a total of three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are equipped with comfy king-size pillow top mattresses. There is a twin over queen bunk bed with memory foam mattresses in the third bedroom. The two bathrooms are conveniently laid out with a bathtub/shower combo in one and the other with a shower. No one will be left without hot water due to the tankless hot water heater. Conveniently, a fully stocked laundry room is off the kitchen. For those who must take their work with them, there is high speed wifi internet and various office supplies.
Lots of windows invite the outdoors in. Enjoy your privacy on the deck that overlooks the fences yard. Take in the fabulous sunsets while soaking in the four-person hot tub. Or just curl up in front of the fire and watch a good movie on the big screen Smart TV.
Our furry guests can romp in the fenced yard area with access from the deck. But that still leaves plenty of open grassy area to set up a game of croquet or bocce ball, or build snowmen in the wintertime.
Don't forget your mountain bike. We are are short warm-up pedal to some of Tahoe's world-class MTB trails. Or bring your beach cruiser and head to Camp Richardson. Hiking shoes are a must as there are too many trails to choose from within minutes.
We have so many repeat guest who have made Muskwaki Pines their home-away-from-home for so many moments. DO NOT STAY HERE IN THE SUMMER- followed all guidelines of the property 87 degrees was the high during the day…..at 10:30pm the inside temperature was 85 degrees- unbearable!!!! One member of our party had to seek medical attention. We did EVERYTHING recommended to keep temperature down- it didn’t matter.
Contacted property manager- they took no responsibility and didn’t care- don’t stay here- property is outdated and worn down.
Steep stairs has pieces of the steps missing - very dangerous!!! Hot tub didn’t work properly.

Good but hot in the afternoon.

We had a great time. The house had everything we needed. It was very homey

Great house, with quick access to river and trails for miles. Quiet neighborhood and easy drive to back country hiking. I lived in Tahoe for years and like avoiding the crowds. This was a comfortable home that ticked all the boxes for us and our Labrador.

We were in the area for a family event and this was a lovely stay for the 5 of us. We hiked and went tubing in the nearby creek and drove to other nearby amenities. At night we enjoyed the hot tub and gathering in the comfortable living space. Beds were comfortable,.kitchen was well equipped and our hosts were easy and pleasant to communicate with. Highly recommend

Very relaxing didn’t want to leave

Comfortable and central but small. Host very communicative. Would stay again.

We had a great time, would definitely stay again.

I love the location and the cleanliness. It’s my 3rd time staying here.

The space and location are perfect for South Lake Tahoe adventures. There are trails at the end of the street, plenty of space to play in the backyard (we used it to teach our toddler how to ski), and a great open space layout in the cabin. The communication and attention to detail were greatly appreciated! Looking forward to returning

Very clean and relaxing stay. The hottub was highly utilized, it made the stay so nice. Then inside to a roaring fire and games. The host was amazing and everything was just taken care of.
4.7
We had a terrific time! Great spot for the dogs. The hosts were kind, responsive, and generous. Would definitely stay again!

Comfortable with five adults, a two year old, a seven month old, and are loving pets. The slope just outside of the front door was perfect for a toboggan run, and a snow man! The hot tub was enjoyed in the late afternoon perfect! The trails were a nice surprise for a nice walk to see the water and surrounding mountains! Loved it!

We had wonderful weekend with the family and dogs. It was a great neighborhood for walks and the yard was fenced which was very nice! I do think for the amount of money that we spent for basically one day in the house (because check in was 5 pm on Friday and check-out 10 am on Sunday), the house was a bit disappointing. I tried to get early check in (by an hour), but my message was never addressed. I discussed several issues with the owner and she offered me a 15% discount on our next stay. Hopefully the items I brought to her attention will be taken care of for the next visitor.

The house was exactly as we expected. The home was super cozy and perfect for our family of 4 plus dog. Yard had plenty of space for the kids and dog to play in. Plus the side of the house had a nice open space as well. The owners communicated everything we needed ahead of time so there wasn’t any reason to reach out during the trip. We would definitely stay again.

My now husband, son and I stayed here for our wedding at Valhalla and loved it! The location is quiet, yet centrally located to everything! The dogs loved the yard and the kitchen is so well equipped! We loved it and want to come back!
4.7
Our family stayed here for Thanksgiving and enjoyed the property, the highlight being the trail within walking distance from the house. Our puppy and the kids would have spent all day exploring by the water if they could.
4.7
We chose to stay here since other family members were visiting and renting a place on the same street. I loved not being so close to neighbors. Place was clean and dog friendly. Hot tub was a winner for the family at night looking at the stars. Some broken steps outside so you had to be really careful. Place was older but cute, clean and a great location if you are not wanting to be right downtown but close to hiking. Easy to contact owner. 😊
4.7
Family of 4 greatly enjoyed our stay. Very easy to communicate with the owners and the check in/out process was very smooth. Great location for activities in South Lake Tahoe. Loved the view from the living room seeing all the nature outside. The house was equipped with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Thank you!

Susan was super responsive and helpful. Really took care of us.

It was a little tight for 5 women and all their sewing gear, but we managed just fine. We seemed to have a lot of trouble getting the microwave to work. It had a mind of it's own and only worked when it wanted to. We never did get the stereo to work. Maybe it was our age. It was well equipped. We really enjoyed the quiet of the neighborhood and never left the house. The stairs leading down to the house were a little difficult with a wobbly rail for seniors. It was a great location if you wanted to go into SLT or if you just wanted to enjoy the beauty of the area. So quiet and peaceful,

You can’t beat this place for the price. Although it’s a little further out and nothing fancy, it’s very homey. It’s a 7 minute walk from a beautiful trail in the meadow by the airport, and the back yard was perfect for our dogs. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you want a serene vacation.
4.7
This is a cute little house with a fenced back area for your furry family members.
The property is accurately described on line. It was clean upon arrival, in a very quiet neighborhood, nice back deck with bbq and great location for downtown, the lake, etc.
The owners were very responsive and provided us with all the information we needed prior to arrival.
Check in & out were simple.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and wish we could have stayed longer.
4.7
The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There were a few minor issues that didn’t effect our vacation.
4.7
What an enjoyable stay we had! Two families- 7 people total. And three of our four legged family members too. What a perfect spot for enjoying the natural beauty of Tahoe-and it starts right in your own private fenced backyard! We had some relaxing jacuzzi time in the evenings while the dogs roamed free in the yard. The real highlight was the hiking trails right beyond the backyard that led to the most tranquil meadow setting with the upper Truckee river running through it. Spent an entire day just enjoying the river and views that were within a 15 minute walk from the cabin. Most nature “esque” Vrbo I’ve ever stayed in! Will visit again. Thanks Sue & Neal for an awesome vacation.

Fun little house in an absolutely beautiful location. Walked down to the Upper Truckee River almost nightly. Manager was so easy to communicate with and very knowledgeable about the location. Highly recommend!
4.7
We invited our daughter and her family to visit Tahoe with us. This is a lovely home with comfortable furnishings and very nice kitchen and laundry facilities. After a busy day at Lake Tahoe, everyone enjoyed the peace and quiet of this home, especially the hot tub. We had a wonderful time.
4.7
The house overall is in a pretty good location to get to Tahoe’s attractions, the back yard was good for our medium size dog and secure fencing. The dinning area and living room is comfortable for four people and the new reclining sofa is very nice. The hot tub was clean and hot. The home owners are VERY responsive to email.
With that being said, this home needs some real TLC
- The rear sliding glass door is difficult to open
- the back porch railing is loose and be careful not to run your hand along top rail or you could get some bad splinters
-microwave was broken before we got there and we did get a replacement (although very small)
-master bedroom mattress is a bit old and lumpy and needs to be replaced.
-front door electrical key pad did not work
Overall ok place for 4 people would be tight for 5 or more, it just needs some TLC.
4.7
This house is located in a quiet neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of South Lake Tahoe. It is surrounded by nature and has access to trails along the Upper Truckee River. A short drive across Pioneer Trail Road gives you access to miles and miles of hiking trails. The home has a well stocked kitchen, and very comfortable beds. The open living room, dining room and kitchen areas have a lot of light. The fenced-in yard to keep our dogs from wandering off was a great feature. It remains on our list of favorite places to stay in the area. Highly recommended for nature lovers.
4.7
Cute cabin, fenced yard for our dog, plenty of outside space, not on top of neighbours. Relaxing spa.
Great communication with host.
4.7
The facility was clean and comfortable. The owners were very kind and attentive. Used the home for our base for horseback riding, shooting a rifle, and trout fishing. Looking forward to our next visit. Great family vacation home.
4.7
This was a great house for 7 ladies to enjoy a beautiful Memorial Day weekend in South Lake Tahoe. Far enough away from the busy & loud, hustle & bustle of south lake, but close enough to drive and get everywhere in a reasonable amount of time.
House was clean. Check in / out was easy.
4.7
The house/property were conveniently located & were in a very quiet neighborhood. The hot tub was a nice addition to a very relaxing weekend. Loved the brand new washer/dryer & the super comfy pillowtop beds. We all slept great (which is more than I can say for some of the other vacation rentals we've stayed in)!
4.7
The house was clean and spacious, even for a family of four. We were greeted with a lovely gift basket. Stargazing from the hot tub was dreamy. We'd intended to go in March but a big snow storm hit. The hosts made our rescheduling easy. We would love to return.
4.7
We knew heading to Tahoe the weather would be extreme and more than likely we would be housebound for the entire weekend ~ which was okay with us. Sue/Neal were in constant contact with updates and very responsive.
4.7
We had a great stay at this cabin. Everything was as described, the owners were quick to respond to the minor issues we had. The location is great, close to Heavenly (and Kirkwood), and yet very quiet. Five-minute walk from the cabin and you are in the beautiful forest, with miles of hiking trails, that were even easily hikeable in the winter (thanks to snowmobile tracks) - just perfect for walking your dog and letting them off leash. Will keep this place in mind for our future travels to Tahoe.
4.7
This was our second time staying here and it was great. Good communication with owners. Our dog enjoyed the stay and playing in the snow.

My wife, 2 kids, and I stayed here for 5 nights for her 40th birthday. It is a beautiful location, is cozy, and is on a safe little road not far from South Lake Tahoe. We stayed during some big snowfall events. Prior to check-in, we got a message from the owner stating that our check-in might be delayed due to issues clearing roads, which we understand. At that time and after an 8 hour drive from San Luis Obispo, CA, so we decided to drive down the road and see what the cabin looked like to get an idea for what we would be dealing with later. Happily, the property manager and maid were both there, busy cleaning and clearing the driveway. They generously let us stash a few things in the refrigerator and we were on our way. When we came back home at 4:30pm, we were informed that the hot tub was not yet clean. We were then told by the property manager that, if it was alright, the next day she would come and fill it with new water. We understood and said we didn't mind at all. When we came home the next evening around 5pm, I noticed the same dirty water. I then messaged the property manager asking if she'd come yet. She said she had not and offered to come back first thing in the morning. We patiently responded that we were okay with that, although the next day was my wife's 40th Birthday (which she already knew). We mentioned that we had plans for that day and that it would be best if we got it taken care of in the morning. The next morning the property manager came to work on the spa. I helped as much as I could at every phase to move things along and to get it done. While the spa drained the property manager left to deal with some other property and said she would be right back. We left for 4 hours and came back and it was still unfinished and she was not there. We texted asking if she was coming back. Just before my wife's bday dinner she came back. Moments before she arrived, she accidentally sent a message to us (intended for her friend) stating "I'm just doing the impossible for the ungrateful". She claimed this text was in reference to someone else and I want to believe her, but I'm not a fool and the timing indicated otherwise. We are nice people. We are patient and respectful. We chose this cabin because of the hot tub (it is listed front and center when booking). Given the high cost of the cabin, our flexibility, and patience, I'm a little taken aback by the experience. She did apologize and everything else went well for the remainder.

Our family wanted a place in Tahoe to enjoy the outdoors and this place was perfect. We were close to Heavenly for snowboarding but also close to many outdoor winter venues. Our trip was during the atmospheric river hitting California so we had to cut it short to not get snowed in (Tahoe was getting feet of snow at a time), and the owner was very flexible in shifting our dates to meet the storm. The place has everything you need and convenient to everything in South Lake Tahoe. Will definitely go again!

Wonderful house. Can’t talk enough about the hot tub. It was amazing to be able to go in after a cold day. Comfy beds, lots of room. Sue was very communicative and helpful. South lake lost power for a long time. Luckily we had a fireplace, heaters, our stove worked, and the bbq ran off natural gas. It was awesome to have all that. Next time I will bring some games. But otherwise it was amazing.
The weekend we went there was a crazy amount of snow. The snow plows were working all hours. But our road didn’t get plowed till Monday. But we had a blast in the snow and inside.
