A wonderful and quiet vacation spot! We loved the private beach area and would have loved to use the firepit while looking over the water but it was too windy when we visited. The property is beautifully set on a rock bluff...we thought it would be neat to fill the area between the house and water with wildflowers to make it more appealing. Do note the steps to the water are a bit steep if you are not confident on your feet. The home is welcoming and has everything you need. It is dated but the 3 bedrooms worked out great for our group. We had a glitch with our payment since we booked through Expedia (you have to go through VRBO to finish your payment and I didn't realize that) and the property owner was very kind when we didn't realize our second payment was late. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. Bill was easy to communicate with when I had questions about the property. While it rained most of our stay, we did get a chance to walk down to the beach/fire pit area. With plenty of seating and flat rocks laid out as a walkway, it would've been awesome to have a fire. Wifi worked great and we were able connect to the TV for music and movies. Out of the 3 bedrooms, we chose the one facing the lake. The bed was comfortable and I loved being able to look out to the lake in the morning.

Washington Island is so beautiful; one must stay for several days to enjoy all the local flavor and friendly folks. This house was perfectly located on the bluff overlooking the lake; a beautiful sunset every night, perfect spot for a campfire near the beach; Comfortable beds and windows that let the fresh lake breeze blow through. We highly recommend this wonderful home!

My wife and I are preparing for our busy season for work so we were looking for a few days in a beautiful private spot. Bill’s cottage was perfect. Great views, beautiful pebble beach. Bill a great host, good communicator.

The views from the house and on the beach were amazing! Unfortunately it was pretty windy when we were there so we didn't get to enjoy a fire on the beach. The house was comfortable.

The view, deck, and beach area are spectacular. The well-constructed stairs down to the beach were very impressive. Beds were comfy and the bathroom was updated. Plenty of room to spread out. If you’re sensitive to smells, there was a musty odor that needed to be aired out. I’m sure in the summer, when the house is occupied and opened more, that probably isn’t an issue. The kitchen and original parts of the house are quite old, but appliances were newer. A unique property with a really nice outdoor area.

The property was as advertised and Bill was easy to communicate with. The home was older but it had everything we needed. The location was secluded and had a nice walkway down to the rock beach. The nights were cool and the heat worked great and it was very comfortable. As advertised, you must bring your own bed linens and towels. Note that this also includes kitchen towels. The area was nice, Washington Island is a great place to visit. We took the ferry up to Rock Island which was fun. It was less than 10 minute drive to the ferry from this location. It is also located close to popular Schoolhouse Beach and multiple restaurants.

This is a great little space! Pictures provided are accurate. The private beach area is wonderful any time of day— we enjoyed our coffee sitting in the provided chairs and listening to the waves every morning.
We used the charcoal grill a couple times and had dinner on the deck almost every evening.
We had had stunning sunsets and a couple of evening storms that made for some wonderful pictures with the cloud formations.
A couple things to note — while the kitchen is decently stocked with cookware and utensils there are is no cooking spray, herbs and spices for grilling etc. so bring from home or be prepared to stop at the grocery store in town. There really isn’t a lot of Tupperware for storing leftovers in the fridge either, so keep those things in mind if you like to make meals at home while vacationing at VRBOs like we do. Also, don’t forget hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom as no linens are provided. (It’s stated, we just happened to forget those smaller towels)
While there is no air conditioning there are fans to use in every room to keep air circulating.
Overall, this is a beautiful, quiet space that we would stay at again.

We spent beautiful days in a perfect setting. We enjoyed peaceful mornings and beautiful sunset at this property that was so quiet, yet is was only a short distance from town.
Bill made communication very easy, quickly responding to any and all questions we had.
We would definitely return.

Nice getaway. We stayed 4 nights. Pros are it's very quite and you feel like no one is around you. Beautiful sunsets down by the lake with a fire pit. Very clean property. Enough dishes and cooking items to make meals. Had lots of fun exploring the island. Overall we were very satisfied. Cons are it's a small bluff from the lake to the house so lots of steps (not a problem for us, but wouldn't be great for someone who doesn't do steps well). Lake side by fire pit is all rocks. Pretty, but hard to walk on. Not huge cons, overall we enjoyed it. Would stay again.

This cottage was perfect for a long weekend with friends!! The cottage had some great charm and we spend a lot of time sitting in front of the fire place in the house. The view was what brought us to this cottage. From listening to the waves crash on the rocks in the morning to watching the sunset at night on our own beach with a fire going it was perfect! Will definitely be back to the lovely place!!

We loved the gorgeous views from the house, deck, and beach, especially at sunset. We had a beach bonfire one night and it was amazing. The house was cute and comfortable and had plenty of room for our family, including 3 college and high school age boys. The stairs and boardwalk down to the beach are very nice and there's plenty of seating down there. You'll definitely need water shoes as it's very rocky and it's a bit tricky to get in and out of the water, but once you're in It's cool and clear and feels great. We loved the privacy and having our own private beach. It was just the relaxing getaway we needed!

cabin on the bluff
Property is bigger than it looks in the pictures. Kitchen was well stocked and beds were comfortable. Has a slight musty smell but not terrible. Walk down the stairs is tougher than we thought it would be but views are spectacular! Loved it and would definitely rent again.

Great vacation home
My husband and I and our 3 kids (14,11,8) stayed in the house for a week. It was in a beautiful, secluded location and exactly as listed. The 1/4 bathroom is a toilet in a mud/storage room but there is no sink in the room. We would definitely stay there again...especially if a washer/dryer were added to the amenities. That was the one thing we felt was missing at this location. Check in/out was simple, plenty of extra pillows and blankets available for use as well.

A beautiful spot on the island!
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the cottage - we found it to be clean and had everything we needed to fully relax and enjoy our time. The view off the patio is awesome, the steps down to the water and the board walk are magnificent, and we found the cottage to be spacious for our group of 4 adults, one kid and one infant. This is truly a gem and we would love to return!

Breathtaking view!
We had wonderful time at the cottage, definitely above and beyond. Magnificent view of the lake with private beach. Quiet and peaceful, just whant our family needed to decompress after covid year. Clean property, well stacked kitchen, responsive host. Will be visiting again!

Relaxing family get away
We had such a great time with our kids one last time before two of them go off to college and one to high school. The location was amazing. We spent most of our time down by the water. The kids love swimming every day. We couldn’t have asked for a better location. We love coming to Washington Island and so far this has been our favorite spot . Thank you, Bill!! We will be back.

Great sunset!
Very nice home on basically a cliff on the west side of the island. Several flights of stairs take you down to the beach where the water is crystal clear. Fire pit with plenty of log seating for many people. The house was equipped with just about everything you could need!

Beautiful Views!
We had a wonderful time during our weekend here in late September! Washington Island was beautiful and we enjoyed the Cherry Train tour, the ferry to Rock Island, checking out the local restaurants and simply hanging out at the cabin by the fire/fireplace. I'm glad I spoke with the owner and got a few tips about the island - pay attention to the ferry times and be mindful that restaurants start closing around 7pm. Also, the grocery store on the island is a little pricey, so I'd recommend bringing your own staples if you plan on cooking at the cabin, so you only have to pickup a few things. The view from the house, porch, or down by the water was simply spectacular! We enjoyed a fire every night and the sound of the waves was so peaceful and relaxing. The cabin was a little musty when we first arrived, but it is an older home, so that is probably expected. We provided our own sheets and towels, and I'd recommend taking your own pillows. The kitchen was well stocked with all the tools you need to cook/prep your meals - we ate breakfast here everyday and cooked dinner one night and ate out on the porch. We truly enjoyed our weekend here!

Clean facility and beautiful location
We stayed for a week as part of a family reunion. Bill's home was great! Lots of places outside for sitting and eating. Kitchen was very functional and well-stocked. Everything worked and the dehumidifier was a nice, unexpected extra since we had unusually high humidity while visiting.

This is the best spot on the island, secluded, beautiful view of Green Bay, the best sunsets. The house is in great shape and very comfortable. Perfect spot for a relaxing vacation!

Beyond expectations
Pictures do not do this place justice. The view is breathtaking. The water is clear. It’s so peaceful and quiet. My husband and I just took our two young children and had a fantastic time and none of us wanted to leave. The house was equipped just as they said and there were no surprises upon arrival. We were worried about the drop off of the yard as described in another review but I spoke to the owner when we booked and it sounded ok. Once we got there we showed our children the fence and explained that it couldn’t be played on and we didn’t have a single issue. We will definitely stay here again.

Beyond - Summer '17 Good Memories
We have stayed at this house many times before, and it lived up to the old memories. Improvements have been made to the house and area in the new staircase down to the beach, the rocks leading to the beach were more cleared out, and some improvements within the house itself. Easily and comfortably sleeps 6 (all in beds). Large couch for napping or watching television. Great view, great location. Only negative, the screen door. It was a summer for the flies (we got bite more this Summer on the island than I ever remember), and the screen door did not help the situation. The fireplace also had a note about the chute not operating correctly. Fix those two things, and this place would be perfect for a week or two vacation. As always, great stay, and another memory to log.

Great isolated place with your own beach and your own sunsets
We spent the best 4 days here: amazing mornings with our own three Garter snakes, spectacular sunsets with our own fire on the beach, biking, swimming, and watching the nature. What could be better for relaxing vacation far away of the crowed cities?

Loved the view!!
What a great place. Loved the house. We felt it has great character. It was perfect for the 4 of us. Kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. Even had a fire in the fireplace one night. Only thing that would have made it better is if the upstairs was accessible. It would have offered an even better view. We watched some of the most beautiful sunsets from the beach. We will definitely stay there again when we come back to the island. The owner was great to work with in every aspect. There was a storm one night and the next day the owner called to make sure every was ok. Told him that the rain had washed ruts in the driveway but it was not a problem for us. He had it fixed that same day. Could not have asked for a better stay. Thank you!!

Great place
Only thing I might have liked was air conditioning, but it cooled down nicely at night. Very comfortable and well supplied with necessities. Unbelievable view.
We would consider having the grandkids there but we can't trust them near the cliff. Is there any way to put a fence there? They are old enough to know better than to try to climb down but it might be hard to recognize that the drop off is so close.
