About this apartment rental
Palazzo Colpace in Syracuse, is a uniquely elegant and spectacular vacation rental. Built in early nineteen century, the Palazzo perfectly complements the ancient beauty of Ortygia, the old island and nest of the Ancient Greek colony in which Archia established the new town that one day will become the most powerful of the Greek colonies. Ortygia is a pearl in the middle of the blue waters of the Ionian sea. The Palazzo resembles a nave-ship facing the water which you will be able to enjoy from its beautifully furnished terrace. Every room in Palazzo Colpace rental features breathtaking views of the Ionian sea or the city: stand on the terrace and watch the sparkling water of the 'Isolotto dei cani' that barely reaches the surfaces of the sea, or follow ships crossing the sea, or watches the little fishing boats with lights at night looking for octopus, or stand on the balcony to look at the terraces and roofs of the old city, or relax in bed or on the sofa to read a book or day-dream. Inside, rooms are elegantly furnished with three beds and two sofa-beds, ceramic tiles, vaulted ceilings, and modern amenities.
Come and stay with us, and discover the pleasure of a perfect place, a place to simply live in.
About the apartment
Palazzo Colpace rental consists of a large apartment located at the second floor of a nineteen century building. The apartment includes a master bedroom, a smaller bedroom, a very large living room, a big kitchen and two bathrooms. All rooms are vaulted. A large terrace faces the sea on one side and a balcony offers open views of the city on the other side. Wear your bathing suit and go to swim just under the Palazzo, or wear your walking shoes and wonders in the narrow streets of Ortigia, or just sit at a cafe in the main square having your gelato or sipping your favorite refreshing drink. The location of the house offers privacy, but is only an easy 10 minute walk to the main square, or the Arethusa spring, and shops with art crafts or object of Italian design, or cafes and restaurants offering the many delicacies of Sicilian cuisine.
The living room continues onto a large terrace with two lounge chairs, a dining table and a sofa. They create a perfect spot for relaxation, private sunbathing, romantic dining, or just sea watching. The living room contains a dining table, a comfortable leather sofabed, along with a coffee table and a wall-unit equipped with TV monitor and stereo. A large glass door divides the living room from the kitchen. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, oven, microwave, washing machine, refrigerator and freezer, as well as a dining table. A second sofabed is also present in the kitchen for an extra guest or just for enjoying reading a book or a newspaper. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, a wardrobe, a writing-desk, a TV monitor and a Charlotte chair. The second bedroom has two twin beds that can be transformed into a queen bed upon request, a wardrobe, a writing desk and a chair. The apartment has two bathrooms with showers. One of the two bathrooms is directly accessible through the master bedroom, the other bathroom can be accessed from the apartment. A long balcony facing the old town is accessible from the master bedroom and kitchen. Each room has air conditioning and centralized heat. WiFi is available in all rooms.
Palazzo Colpace is three minutes walking from Forte Vigliena, leading down to the water’s edge through a few steps. Forte Vigliena is open all day and offers immediate access to the crystal clear waters of the Ionian sea. The Historic Center of Ortigia all around, with its buildings of great cultural value, make Siracusa a favorite tourist destination. Especially at night, when the streetlights of this little island create a very special atmosphere, as if one were in a stately home full of works of art and beautiful buildings for one to discover and explore.
Location
The apartment is located in the heart of the Ortigia, an island on which the old colony of Siracusa was established. It is only a few minutes walk from Piazza Duomo, the Castello Maniace, the ancient Jewish mikvah, the marina and many other historic monuments and sites, not to mention fine restaurants, shopping, a seaside promenade, and more. The archeological park with the Greek Theater, and museums are a half hour walk or ten minute drive away. The closest airport is located in Catania at approximately 35 minutes' drive to the north. Airport pick up and drop off available from local taxi services.
Siracusa is located on the East coast of Sicily. The coast is characterized by sandy beaches such as the famous “Fontane bianche” with crystal-clear water, easily reachable from Ortigia by a 20 minutes drive. In less than 1 hour drive you can also reach Vendicari natural park, Cava Grande, the Pantalica natural park, Palazzolo with a small enchanted Greeck Theatre, along with Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli and Modica, four towns belonging to the UNESCO, and famous for their Baroque buildings. At approximately 150 Kms, with daily excursions, you can reach Taormina, the park of the mighty Volcano Mount Etna, Agrigento, Piazza Armerina with the famous Roman Villa, The Castle of Donnafugata where the film by Visconti “The Leopard” was partly shot, and many more places that have been built in the last 4.000 years in Sicily.

The apartment was just as advertised. The apartment was spacious and very clean and with a full kitchen, shopping at the local market and cooking was a great option to have. The large terrace overlooking the Ionian Sea provided a wonderful setting for our morning coffee and for a relaxing glass of wine at the end of the day. We found so much to do in this picturesque town all within easy walking distance from the apartment. We had rented a car and the owner helped us book a safe and secure a parking spot just a few blocks away. We made Ortigia our base and enjoyed day trips to Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Taormina and Marzamemi making this among our "best ever" vacations.

Beautiful 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. Large well equipped kitchen, living room and great private deck. Very clean and well appointed. The hosts Ottavio and Guiseppina were lovely and great to work with and Rita took good care of our housekeeping needs. Great location. A gem in Ortegia.

Giuseppina’s apartment is perfect. The patio overlooking the ocean is spectacular. The apartment was very clean, bright and comfortable and well appointed. We spent a week here and loved every minute. While centrally located, its on a quiet street.
We were a bit “directionally challenged” and couldn’t find the garage. Like a good sport, Giuseppina got in our car and took us there. Turns out it was just around the corner.
Thank you, Guiseppina for a wonderful stay. Andy and Susan

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ortigia. This apartment was perfect for us. Spacious with lots of living space. This was important since we were staying for a month. Very comfortable. A lovely deck/terrace. The location was perfect. In a quiet neighborhood but so close to everything on the island - lots of good restaurants nearby. Also important as we did not rent a car. Could walk everywhere we needed or wanted to go.

This was a great apartment, clean, comfortable and spacious. Plenty of room for the 4 of us to spread out after our days of touring Ortigia. The location was just great., allowing us to explore Ortigia pretty extensively by foot.
Unfortunately, we speak little Italian and so check in was a bit confusing as the assistant who met us spoke minimal English. We understand that that's our failure, not his.
We are in our 70s and 80s. I mention that because the 44 steps from the street up to the apartment were a challenge. But the view from the patio out over the sea was totally worth it.
A lovely place to stay

The apartment was fabulous for the 3 of us. The balcony overlooking the sea was magical. The location was great, as its on the quieter side of Ortigia, but 5 minute walk from everywhere. Great kitchen and sitting room aswell. We loved this property.

Sublime
A sublime stay at Palazzo Colpace. Ottavio and Guiseppina were flawless hosts, the weather was serene and Ortigia itself is the most walkable and enjoyable experience on all levels. Being gluten-free we were repeat visitors to Moon - a vegan restauarant that is a cut above. Grazie mille.

Could not have had a better hostess than Giuseppina. And Rosaria, her helper, was always available to help with our every need. Highly recommend this outstanding apartment!

Giuseppina is a wonderful landlord! The apartment was outstanding--spacious, immaculate and well equipped. There is an excellent espresso maker, a dishwasher, a variety of small appliances and plenty of supplies. The sofa and the beds were very comfortable. There are superb windows that keep the heat and cooling in and the sound out. I was able to paint and draw every day in the morning light. The terrace on the ocean is a delight, and Ortigia is a fun place to locate for a period. We stayed an entire month and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great views of the sea ... loved the evenings on the terrace. Rooms were big & airy.
Kitchen very well equipped. WiFi had good speed. Bedrooms are large with good closet space & light. Conviently located on a lovely street with many cafes, the Duomo, the market all within easy walking distance. Would have been nice to have the address on Via Nizza & contact phone number for last minute changes in arrival time.

Excellent Stay and Property, perfect base for our week in Sicily
Spacious and well equipped and wonderful light. The view from the terrace is spectacular. We spent many mornings eating breakfast and evenings enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace. Giuseppina(the owner Ottavio's sister who lives onsite) was so helpful and had arranged reserved parking for us as parking is very difficult in Ortigia. She was accessible but never intrusive. Ottavio was easy to deal with and provided good pre stay instructions. It is a little tricky to find as the numbering system on the road is a little confusing - there's a big gap in the numbers on the left hand side of the street, make sure to continue toward the end of the last block on the street and you will find the unit. Parking cost 20 Euros a day but was worth it as we used Ortigia as our base for a week to explore the east coast of Sicily. The only caution I would add is that if you have any mobility issues there isn't a elevator and you must climb several flights of stairs to reach the apartment. We are in our 50s and very active so it wasn't a problem.
Ortigia is very pedestrian friendly and has many shops and wonderful restaurants. I could wander around Ortigia for days. We spent several afternoons at the beach club a couple blocks away. The Greek Amphitheater and Basilica santuario Madonna delle Lacrime in Siracsa were about a 30-40 minute walk and well worth visiting. Don't miss Ortigia's open air market, it's a feast for the eyes, nose and hopefully the belly :)
What we had hoped to visit on the eastern half of Sicily was all within 1-2 hour drive. We were able to visit Noto, Modica(try the chocolate and meat cookies, trust me), Cava Grande Del Cassibile, Taormina, Barone Di Villagrande an excellent Mt Etna winery, Alcantara Gorge on Etna. Didn't get to hike Etna unfortunately as the date we had scheduled with the guide ended up being too stormy.

Spacious and well equipped and wonderful light. Giuseppina was so helpful as was her household helper Sara who daily took away any recyclables and garbage. Parking is extremely challenging in Ortygia but Giuseppina had arranged reserved parking for us. Although it cost 20 Euros a day, it was worth it as Ortygia was our base from which to visit many sites. We spent several days just exploring Syracuse including Ortygia on foot.

A wonderful apartment overlooking the Ionian Sea
We spent one month in beautiful Ortigia, living in Palazzo Colpace on Via Nizza. Our two bedroom, two bath apartment was beautifully laid out and contained modern appliances. The view from the huge terrace is breathtaking, we spent many afternoons watching the boats go by. Our wonderful hostess, Giueseppina, outdid herself in providing us with any of our needs.

Beautiful apartment overlooking the sea.
This apt exceeded our expectations. It was in a perfect location--close to everything but quiet. It was great to have our own kitchen and washing machine. The balcony was huge and overlooked the sea. We sat out there every morning and had coffee. We would highly recommend this place. The owner lives downstairs and goes out of her way to accommodate your needs.

Comfortable, spacious and well located
This is a lovely spacious apartment. The terrace with water view is perfect for eating lunch or sunbathing. The building fronts onto a quiet, narrow street typical of Ortigia and it is an easy walk to the many good restaurants and local sights. Although it appears to be an old (and beautiful) palazzo from the exterior, the interior of the apartment is modern, with a roomy eat-in kitchen and modern appliances. We made use of the nearby garage for our rental car. But driving around the tight corners of this ancient city can be nerve-wracking; we were much happier walking and the city is delightful for that!

Fantastic
My wife and I stayed here for 10 days and I can only agree with all the other fantastic reviews. Like others we have stayed in villas and apartments all over Europe for the past 20 years and this is one of the best. All the facilities are first class and the location must be one of the best on the island.

Our Lovely Stay in Ortigia
The three of us enjoyed four fantastic days in Ortigia at this luxury palazzo apartment on Via Nizza. This is among the best of the many accommodations we have booked in Italy -- villas, apartments, B&Bs, agriturismo included.
The apartment is very well located, on a quiet street with a spectacular view from the large veranda of the sea and shoreline. It is spacious, comfortable, modern and well-appointed. Two full bathrooms are an extraordinary luxury in Ortigia, and the our host, Giuseppina (who renovated and lives in the building), was delightful, kind and so helpful. She and her brother, Ottavio, who owns the apartment (and lives in the US), were both fantastic, from booking to checkout. Some examples. When we arrived, the wifi was not working properly. Giuseppina and Ottavio responded with urgency, replacing the router the same day, and it worked beautifully from then on. Giuseppina also joined us for dinner one night, giving us the gift of her time and advice about Siracusa and other parts of Italy. She helped to arrange transportation to Catania Airport for one of us who spent a couple of days on Malta. Assistance was also offered with parking our car in a nearby underground garage, as vehicle access for non-residents is restricted in Ortigia.
We had a great experience in Siracusa, and loved returning home every night to this fantastic apartment.

Outstanding Apartment!
My husband and I loved the apartment! It’s spacious, bright, and modern. The terrace, with its beautiful sea view, is wonderful. Since we had a few days of rain during our stay, we spent more time inside the apartment than we had expected, so we were gratified that we had chosen such a nice place. We’ve rented numerous apartments in Italy during the last few years, and this one was absolutely among the best: well equipped, very clean, and quiet. The bed in the master bedroom was the most comfortable Italian bed I’ve ever slept in. Within a short walk from apartment, there are plenty of good restaurants and coffee bars, as well as a convenient garage where we kept our rental car. Giuseppina was very kind and helpful, and we particularly enjoyed our evening out together! I hope that someday we’ll be able to return for another visit.

World Class Beauty!
We stayed at the Palazzo for a week in early June, and what can I say, the apartment delivered, and then some!!! It is beautifully furnished, spacious, has everything (and I mean everything) you can think of, for a short vacation. The balconies are to die for, and you can simply spend your entire trip (and days) lying in the wonderful patio recliners, reading, sleeping, chatting, drinking, relaxing. We had to force ourselves to leave the apartment, since we were supposed to be there for sightseeing. Giuseppina, the lovely sister of the charming apartment owner Octavio, lives on site in the apartment below, and was extremely helpful in recommending tour sites, driving routes, markets and restaurants, and any other questions you may have. The location is fantastic, you are practically right on the water, can easily walk to some of the best restaurants in Ortigia, a hop and a skip to the couple of piazzas, to the swimming platform, the fort, and even the market. Yup, we walked to the market, but I probably wouldn't recommend carrying loads and loads of groceries from the market back to the apartment, especially in the heat. A taxi would have been the smarter way to go. We love Ortigia, and love the apartment, if only Sicily (either Palermo or Catania) is easier to get to from the States.

Truly wonderful
We had a wonderfully relaxing week in Siracusa and this excellent apartment provided a great base for our visit. The apartment is situated on the island of Ortigia, the oldest and most interesting part of Siracusa. The area is clean, quiet and safe. The apartment is located in an old palazzo which has been thoroughly and tastefully renovated. The apartment is spacious, bright, well furnished and well appointed. The most attractive feature is a large terrace which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Even in March, we were able to eat breakfast on the terrace several mornings. The owner Ottavio and his sister Giuseppina (who lives in another apartment in the building) went out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
Ortigia is a wonderful place for wandering around, visiting churches, shopping in the excellent street market for fresh fish, fruit and vegetables and sitting in cafes and watching the world go by. We would definitely like to visit Sicily and Siracusa again one day and when we do, we will definitely stay at this apartment again.

Simply Splendid
We are coming to the end of our wonderful stay at Palazzo Colpace. We are well travelled but never before have we been able to say that we are staying in “the best apartment in the best location in the entire City”. The apartment has a great layout, is very comfortable, peaceful, modern and efficient. The spacious terrace overlooking the cobalt blue Ionian Sea is simply splendid. The kitchen and master bedroom have their own terraces with magical city views over a very quiet corner of Ortigia. The second bedroom has its own terrace and yet another spectacular sea view.
The market and all the sites of Ortigia are within a 10 minute walk. We made several day trips to all sorts of interesting destinations using the bus and rail network. Wonderful swimming in crystalline waters is literally steps away from our front door. With a very well equipped kitchen, it was a pleasure to sample the vast array of delicious Sicilian fruits, vegetables, cheese and fresh fish and prepare our own meals.
This apartment as well as three other lovely apartments in the palazzo are owned and managed by a brother/sister team. The sister lives in the building and you could not ask for a more gracious and helpful host. She helped us find Italian language lessons, gave us great restaurant recommendations, and answered our numerous questions on Syracuse and Sicily.
In sum, we feel very fortunate to have been guests in Palazzo Colpace and to have become acquainted with the wonderful owners. It is the perfect combination for a holiday of relaxation, cultural experiences, and the warm hospitality of Syracusans.

Highly recommend
My wife and I visited Ortiga and Siracusa to celebrate our 20th anniversary and to connect with out exte3nded family there. One of the highlights of this most memorable trip was our stay at Palazzo Colpace. The pictures and location shown on the website piqued out interest, and having had spoke with the owners we decided to book it. I have to say our expectations were far surpassed; the pictures (as good as they are) don't do justice to this space. open, bright, airy...immaculate, the million dollar views, the location in Ortigia...one can go on and on. Giuseppina was great- there when we needed something, helpful with local knowledge while very respectful of our privacy and really made us feel as if we were in our own home. Indulge yourselves and visit Ortigia and stay at Palazzo Colpace.

Wonderful spacious apartment in Ortigia
We very much enjoyed staying in this appartment as our base while in Ortigia. The apartment is very clean and has been tastefully renovated. The best part is the fantastic outside terrace overlooking the sea. The owner was very nice and we would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful property in Ortigia
We are just back from staying at Palazzo Colpace and had an absolutely wonderful holiday. The apartment itself is much nicer in reality than in the photos. It is spacious and light with high quality bed linens and towels. There are four things that really make this property special:
1. The supremely convenient location in what is, in my opinion, the nicest part of Ortigia. Minutes from many excellent shops, restaurants and bars;
2. The extraordinary views over the sea and the swimming platform;
3. The large terrace, which is sunny for most of the day; and
4. Perhaps most significantly the incredibly warm welcome from Gisuseppina, the owner's sister who lives downstairs. She spent much time and effort ensuring that we had the best stay possible.
We usually spend our holidays in high end hotels and resorts (for what it is worth we are Amanjunkies). We could not find a hotel in Ortigia that we were happy staying at, but Palazzo Colpace made us very happy. Just go!
