Extended stay brownstone experience
Extended stay brownstone experience
My partner and I stayed at this property for an extended time while we worked in the Washington Heights area. The apartment itself is beautiful and has everything you could possibly need. It's well equipped and very spacious. It truly gave us the feeling of home for the duration of our stay. The only thing that didn't work was the fireplace, which the owners did attempt to fix, but needed new parts. The apartment is in close proximity to the subway, as well as the grocery store (Whole Foods) which was very convenient. The only thing that my partner and I had reservations about was the location. The street itself was very quiet with friendly neighbors, but the surrounding area and the main strip has a very chaotic ambiance. We witnessed many events requiring police presence during our time living in the area. Additionally, there have been a handful of crime events in the area that brought news attention in the last couple of months. It seems that post COVID, the area's safety has become less stable than it reportedly was a couple years ago.

Easy, roomy space
This apartment was great for us. Just big enough, near the places we wanted to be. Margo was very helpful as well.

Staying in Harlem was wonderful!
Staying in Harlem was wonderful!
There is so much history there. The apartment was very comfortable and well stocked. Whole Foods around the corner, as well as the Red Rooster restaurant. It is not "fat free". Margot was an excellent host and was responsive to any needs that we had. We will return. We recommend the Archer and Goat for brunch.

A fantastic Harlem home
A fantastic Harlem home
We could not have been more pleased with this wonderful property. The location of the brownstone suited our family of 4 perfectly, with its two spacious bedrooms, well appointed kitchen and roomy living area. We loved its proximity to the grocery store and most importantly to Central Park, just a 15 minute walk away. We really appreciated the air conditioning, as we visited in August when the weather was hot and humid. The neighborhood was vibrant, safe, and friendly neighbours greeted us as we came and went. Night was always quiet. We also loved having the use of the outdoor space to enjoy our morning coffee in or to unwind in after a day in the city. Margo was a helpful and a gracious host. If you are looking to stay in an authentic NYC brownstone, we definitely recommend this property.

Magical Experience.
Magical Experience.
A few days before our arrival, a previous guest posted a review that could potentially deter others from experiencing this magical place. This would be truly sad. So here is a review from another perspective. I am a middle-aged white woman, married to a not-yet-middle-aged white woman, blessed to be raising our 9-year-old African American son. We rented Margo's home for 3 weeks this summer while our son attended Manhattan School of Music's summer jazz program. The accommodations exceeded our expectations. This is 900-sq-feet of open-concept living with charm and comfort. It was super comfortable for the 3 of us. It has been well-designed and appointed to anticipate needs and deliver other unexpected luxuries, The owner, Margo, and her family are thoughtful, gracious, communicative, and responsive without being intrusive in any way. We could not ask for more and have experienced much less in other rentals over the years. But - the physical property was only a portion of what made this experience so magical. Harlem, this neighborhood, this street in particular, are joyful. Yes, neighbors gather on their steps and on the sidewalk on nice summer evenings to share covered dishes, play dominoes, listen to music, chat and laugh together. They are every shade of black and brown. When we would pass they would smile, engage us with greetings, and often compliment our chosen t-shirts or my funky new hairstyle. We ALWAYS felt safe. The gatherings would dissipate at an appropriate time in the evening and we enjoyed restful sleep every night for 21 nights. In closing, if encountering a group of people who don't look like you, who are enjoying life and each other in THEIR neighborhood offends you, my advice is to check your privilege. But do not blame the people, this neighborhood, this property, or this homeowner. That is unfounded and misinformed. PS. We have already booked another 3 weeks for next summer and will walk the 20-minutes each way to our son's school and enjoy the sights, sounds, cuisine, theater and people of Harlem once again.

Not a good fit for our family.
Not a good fit for our family.
Our family did not feel safe at this location. We stayed one night and changed locations. This was not a good fit for our family and the neighborhood was loud until early hours of the morning. We did not get much rest. The location and safety were both were the biggest issues for me. The instructions were to make sure for our safety to lock all three doors to the location.

Fantastic neighborhood, and a wonderful host!
Fantastic neighborhood, and a wonderful host!
We loved staying in this wonderful brownstone apartment in Harlem. It is just a short walk to the hustle and bustle of Harlem, but the apartment is a wonderful oasis of quiet in the middle of all the activity. There's even a wonderful little garden in the back. Great restaurants like the Red Rooster are right on your door step and you're just a few blocks from the Apollo. Margo was a wonderful host! Check in was a breeze. She even let us check in early, and then check out late and store our bags in the apartment entrance vestibule, which allowed us to really enjoy our last day in the city before getting on an evening flight. I can't recommend this place more.
