About this cottage rental
Our holiday home is situated in the countryside on a dike next to the picturesque river “Het Gein”. A typical Dutch surrounding with windmills and cos, where you can bike and walk. In the summertime you can swim in the river Het Gein.
Amsterdam is very nearby: with a bike it takes you 5 minutes to subway station Gein, which takes you in 20 minutes to the center of Amsterdam. With a car you can drive in 5 minutes to the P+R subway station of Gaasperplas or to the train station Abcoude or Weesp.
Because our house is so centrally located, all big tourist attractions are within an hour drive, such as Keukenhof, Zaanse Schans, Haarlem, Volendam, Marken, The Hague, Hoge Veluwe, Utrecht and the 'Venice of the North' : Giethoorn etc etc.
The summerhouse (now holiday home) of our farm, which was built in 1865, is situated just 200m from the city border of Amsterdam. On the first (ground)floor there are 2 bedrooms each with an individual bath room, there is a living and a large kitchen with dining table. The folding doors brings you to the big private garden which gives you a panoramic view to the surrounding pastures with grazing sheep and cows.
On the second floor you will find a very spacious loft-like lounge area and large dining table with fire place. There is also a tv with dvd player on both first and second floor.
The house has a rich history: until the 60’s the summerhouse was a cattle shed with hay-loft and the farm was leased by various farmers families. Later the land was sold by the Amsterdam municipality to the famous Dutch sculptor Nel van Lith. On the old hay-loft she gave sculptor lessons to our former Queen Beatrix. From 1995 a garden architect lived here and she designed the English/French romantic garden that is still intact today.

We had a lovely stay. Everything was perfect and I have no faults with this property or the host. It was in a lovely quiet area

We had a wonderful time in this idyllic place at the river, surrounded by cows and near a farmers shop. The house was clean and had a huge kitchen. There were also mosquito-nets for protection. We enjoyed a week and spend a day renting bikes to explore Abcoude and the nearby area.

A lovely house in a peaceful location. Spent a happy week here with my husband and adult daughter. House well equipped, especially the mosquito nets which were definitely needed but they worked as I didn’t get any bites! We enjoyed relaxing in the evening in the upstairs living room. Weren’t able to use the garden as much as we would have liked due to the weather but did sit outside a couple of times and enjoyed watching the wildlife and listening to the birds - first time I’ve ever heard a cuckoo! Only a 10 minute drive to Weesp where we caught the train to Amsterdam. Stephanie was a great host and answered my questions before we travelled very promptly. Would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

There is a lovely garden with a deck where we are entertained by the birds, the mallards, the cows and the flowers .
Very convenient location, we can always find a great outdoor cafe for lunch.
We like the kitchen, which is large and has a gas stove.

We spent three weeks here using this charming home as a base for our travels throughout various parts of the Netherlands. It is easy to reach Amsterdam from here and our host provided us with great details about getting to and from the city.
Stephanie was responsive when an issue arose with the hot water and she kept us up-to-date when a local marathon forced a road closure.
The home had everything we needed to make our stay pleasant. If you are looking for a quiet country get-away, in a charming setting this is the perfect place for you.

Stephanie’s place is an amazing converted barn surrounded by a lovely garden and farmland. The location is convenient to Amsterdam (25 min by train) and a short run or drive to the quaint town of Weesp. She takes pride in her property and is extremely helpful with local tips and ideas of things to do in the area. Be sure to walk to the local dairy farm for some
Tasty cheeses, yogurt and milk. Very comfortable for our family of four to stay in for multiple days. We will be back!

We booked this property after previous city centre based stays, we were looking for a more rural location which this certainly meets, it is an ideal balance between rural peace and sights and only a 25 minute walk to the Amsterdam metro.
The host was helpful with our delayed arrival but otherwise left us to our own devices which we prefer. It would be remiss of me not to mention some of the issues we felt were with the property, it is broadly as described, the pictures are an accurate reflection of the rooms. I think it’s fair to say some of the fixtures and fittings are showing signs of age and could do with a little refresh. One issue we were not expecting was the presence of mosquitos around the property, to such and extent it was necessary to sleep under protective nets, they were an annoyance more than a specific problem but I wish I’d known this prior to booking. In summary this is a lovely location but I ultimately feel a bit disappointed with the actual accommodation.

We had a marvelous stay in a lovely house. Everything was perfect, the kitchen, the bedrooms, the gallery. Nearby the train station, great for families. Absolute recommendation, thank you

Great place in a very quiet area. Owner is great and welcoming. The loft is a great place to wind down after a long day but be ready as it is very warm.
House is very fonctional but two little things were unpleasant. There are ants pretty much everywhere and the timing for the gardeners was awfull. One morning they were triming and making lots of noise right beside my window, waking me up. And the next morning they were working in front of the washroom window while I was in the shower. It was interesting....but they did a great job with their work...lol.

Stunning countryside setting, with easy access to the local town of Abcoude and its station to then explore Amsterdam. The house its self was beautiful and everything we needed was there. Stephanie was on hand should you need any assistance. All in all a great trip and will hopefully return.

I'd stay here again. The temp in the house was a little cold but we adjusted.

Stephanie has provided a beautiful, spacious place in a bucolic setting. The town of Abcoude has a number of nice restaurants which Stephanie recommends, a gas station and local grocery store. we would definitely stay there again if we are fortunate enough to be able to return.

This place was a perfect place of respite after a day of sightseeing around South Holland. The garden and grounds were so beautiful we almost hated to leave the house to travel for the day. Stephanie is an excellent host. She helped us navigate our way into Amsterdam (local train station) and to find local restaurants.

This property was beautiful and peaceful. It was a lot of space for our family of 4. Check in and out was easy. A car is recommended if you are visiting other places, but not necessary. We used the train station, which is about a 20 minute walk away.

Lovely history in a beautiful setting with a charming house. Excellent in most all ways. Surrounded by canal, farm and historic windmills. Very quiet and conveniently located to many wonderful places to visit.

Lovely house and host. Very friendly neighbourhood. 20 minute walk from metro station which takes 25 minutes to get to the centre. Overall 10/10 stay would highly recommend

A beautiful stay close to Amsterdam -- it gave us a great respite from the hustle and bustle of town, and Stephanie was a great host! The house is stunning. I'd like to book it for a writing retreat!

The property itself is everything and more than as described. We were truly stunned at the accommodations and overall property.
Even more amazing than the property was the communication and ease in dealing with Stephanie. She was extremely attentive and helpful on several occasions during our stay.
This is a must stay location when visiting Amsterdam!

What a beautiful and special place. The cottage is stunning, super clean and beautifully decorated. We were there when it was very hot so we were unable to use the gorgeous living room upstairs. We had coffee in the back deck and enjoyed watching the cows in the next field. The canal is lovely and the street is a great place to walk and unwind. Perfect setting for our trip. Easy access to Amsterdam or the country.

Lovely house
The place was beautiful and Stephanie was super helpful. It was so peaceful yet relatively close to Amsterdam. If you stay here I would definitely rent a car, the metro was a much farther walk than I realized. But overall I loved it and would stay there again!

Recent stay at Abcoude
Overall a very enjoyable stay
A beautiful area and garden, and the local farm environment very interesting
Felt the power of the house lights was poor, making reading difficult at night
Also found the WiFi weak, and all my outgoing emails were blocked during our stay
Despite these minor problems enjoyed our stay at Abcoude and visiting Amsterdam

Charming village setting
We enjoyed our stay and we loved being in such a beautiful setting. Easy access to and from if you have a rental vehicle. The town near the house has a great fully stocked market and the restaurants are nice.

We loved staying in such an authentic Dutch home. The beautiful setting helped us relax while having all the modern conveniences and plenty of room inside the house. The location made it easy to travel to Amsterdam or explore the countryside. We would stay here again!

The host Stephanie is very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is first rate. We stayed for 40 nights and hosted friends and family, who were all very impressed with the facility and the beautiful surroundings. We highly recommend this vacation home (B&B).

A beautiful property in a picturesque, peaceful and relaxing setting. Stephanie was a wonderful host and was always on hand to help if we needed anything. A wonderful place to relax, unwind and enjoy the fresh air! I highly recommend a stay here. You won't be disappointed.

Anyone wishing to stay at this property will be amazed at how wonderful it is. Its location will give you a true experience of living on the outskirts of a lovely village. It has the best of everything. Easy transport into the city. Plenty of shops and places to explore. The accommodation is very clean and short of nothing. Our host was very helpful and recommended lots of things to do. It was a shame we couldnt stay longer. Do not miss the property, you will be amazed.

A lovely escape! A cosy cottage which was perfect for our family holiday - many thanks!
This property was lovely. It was exactly as promised - a charming private house. The setting was perfect for us, beautiful natural location with a very nice local village that had everything we needed. The only improvement that could be made would be to add a freezer, as there is no place to store anything frozen (such as ice-cream for the summer months!). We had a wonderful time and will be back. Thank you Stephanie

Lovely place
The house is absolutely lovely, only 30 mins walk or 7 minutes cycle to metro station. Sorrounded by nature, peaceful. Had a lovely holiday with my girlfriends there. Would go back again.

Beautiful home in a picturesque setting
When you think of the Netherlands, this homes location is what I imagine. Beautiful gardens, surrounded by canals, farm country and a gorgeous windmill down the road. The house itself is beautifully decorated, the kitchen has all the equipment you need, and there is a store in the village to pick up food items, etc. A great space!!

Very quiet and comfortable in the country!
After having a little trouble finding our place, we settled in quite nicely. We walked to Gein every day and caught the train to Amsterdam Centraal Station. It takes about 25 mins to walk. The scenery in the surrounding area is very nice, and the outdoor patio was a favourite in the evenings.
Our kitchen was well stocked with the basic amenities. (Except freezer, which we missed) and the supermarket is nearby in Gein.
We like the fact that each bedroom is closed off to the rest of the living space and each has their own bathroom. This gave both couples their privacy. There was also T.V. viewing in two spaces in the house so on a rainy day, each couple was able to enjoy their own space.
We were able to easily book Taxi2airport for our day of departure from the summer house.
Stephanie and her husband were very knowledgeable about the area and very helpful when asked questions. We would definetly recommend this property to other travelers wishing to see Amsterdam and the surrounding countryside.

charming location
This is a charming and calm location with options to bike into the village or to the train station. The village has many nice shops and places to eat and the train runs to Amsterdam regularly. Stephanie, the owner is most helpful. This is a highly recommended location!

The accommodation and the location were very good and we were very pleased. Lots of room and clean.
The home was as advertised and everything we needed was at hand. We would gladly return if we needed a home in same vicinity again. Bedrooms were large, clean and private. Washrooms were perfect. Kitchen well stocked. Internet access good. The Loft sitting area a bonus to have. Two suggestions: 1 - cut back the shrubbery since it is getting to be overgrown. 2 - do something permanent about the small problem we mentioned to the home owner.
thank you.

The cottage was beautiful and we felt we had our own enchanted garden.
The cottage was warm and cosy and made you feel at home. Stephanie was a great host. The beds were very comfortable. Do not hesitate to stay here if you are any to experience the country in the Netherlands.

Charming, peaceful country property
This property is so special that none of us wanted to leave. We enjoyed sitting on the patio with the view of the gardens, the sheep, the cows and the bees! The bedrooms and baths were well furnished and everything was in excellent repair. The second floor is amazing and offers expansive views of the countryside. The canal is well used and is such a popular way to spend a week end. Out in the country yet very close to Amsterdam. The train service is superb. Don't hesitate to experience this yourself!
