This is such a beautifully restored, spacious and very cosy house and a pleasure to stay in. It’s located right on the royal canal greenway and beside a great pub with excellent food. The owners are really lovely and very welcoming, and the homemade breakfast is delicious and freshly made. The room we stayed in was just gorgeous and had a huge bathroom with a claw foot bath - perfect after a long walk on the greenway! We can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful, restored old home
From the description, I believed I was staying in an upmarket, adult only retreat.
What I encountered was very different......
To cut a VERY long story short, because frankly, I couldnt be bothered wasting any MORE of my time......;
History prior to check in....had contacted to see if they could provide portable breakfast, even a sandwich, for the business traveller.....FLAT NO
On arrival on a wet and miserable Sunday evening after a 3 hr drive in horrendous conditions, I would describe the proprietress as appearing harassed, confrontational, and not remotely welcoming.
Following check in, I decided to complete some admin before dinner in the sitting room.
I was interrupted by;
A child of maybe 8 or 9 opening the door at least 3 times
The proprietress also made it clear to me that she " hardly ever got to use my sitting room" due to guests......
Not my problem, and she is charging very handsomely for the privilege.
Children fighting
Parents yelling
A baby screaming for a number of minutes.
Rain notwithstanding,( which had stopped) as a parent myself, it really might have been advisable for this family to get a walk in that day, to vent a bit.
Went for dinner in the local bar/ restaurant to be surrounded by children running riot, including around my table.
Pleasant it was not.....
On return, I was shattered after a very long and stressful drive.
Was in bed for 21.50
Listened to children up/ downstairs/ chastised/ then up and downstairs again.
Still awake at 00.30 hrs, having listened to proprietress banging and crashing around with my one place setting, for a breakfast that she knew I was not having, in the dining room directly below my room.
What followed next was unkown to me, but absolutely TERRIFYING.
Staying in a 200 yr old house, I had grave concerns following what happened that night.

Very friendly, welcoming host. The house was really warm. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was lovely. House is in a great location really close to the village of Abbeyshrule.

The house is as restored 18th/19th century residential home and it has been done with great taste.
About 7 minutes walk from the house is a very good restaurant/pub called The Rustic Inn. I had a very good 3 course dinner there - their wine list is very good considering that its a small rural village.
The combination of Abbeyview house and the nearby restaurant makes this an ideal setting for a short visit to the locality

Wonderfully restored period house, with most welcoming owners. Great location for walking or cycling the Royal Canal.

The house and our room were beautifully decorated. Very friendly hosts and easy to talk to. Easy walk into Abbeyshrule to a very nice restaurant.

Welcoming, clean, spacious, bright and airy. Very comfortable. And a big winner for me is that dogs are welcome. Hard to find dog friendly b&b these days!
I would really have to be picky to find fault. Maybe the room could have been a bit cooler (my preference), it would have been nice to have drinking water in the room, but I know had I asked it would not have been a problem.

The home is within walking distance to a restaurant and pub and in a charming, scenic area. The owners did a fantastic job restoring the home with beautiful features and modern amenities. Our room was lovely all around: the bed was incredibly comfy (we slept great) and the bathroom was very clean. Breakfast was delicious as well. The family is very friendly and the hostess was kind and accommodating. The dog is a good girl and loves pets.

Our room was fabulous. Spotlessly clean. Amazing sunset views and wonderful bath to relax in and admire the countryside.
Breakfast room was beautiful. But there is only one big table to share your breakfast with other guests. Personally I would prefer my own separate table. But I understand in this establishment its not really possible. 😕
