We had a wonderful time there. there were plenty of towels and linen etc, tea and coffee and kitchenware items. the beds were very comfortable and the view out the window was delightful. we absolutely loved the quirkiness of the house and the fact that there were areas where someone could go to a quiet spot to read or just relax away from others if needed. highly recommended

The property is true to its name a “real charmer.”
Cheryl, the host was lovely.
The river view was very relaxing.

Wonderful spot overlooking the river. Very relaxing outlook. Couldn’t open any windows so had to ventilate using screen doors. Cheryl was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome and had great local knowledge on what to visit and where to get good food. We really appreciated her helpfulness.

The photos on your site must of been taken a long while ago. it must of been flooded as it is in a random stage of renovation and smells of decay. it is cluttered with books and old stuff that they say is rustic, but we call smelly. there is lots of tea and coffee out of date . mats are old and not what you would call clean. milk frother was not clean. there was rodent droppings on the pillow on single bed. We do not want anyone else caught with this property as it is hard to leave when you have nowhere to go. Cushions in the sitting area were damp as the rain can come in the renovated roof. Mat in lounge room had a large dirty mark that was covered with a table which we told her about. CheryI said she couldn't get out and the rug was 40 years old.We recommend this house be inspected before it is rented again as it certinately wouldn't be passed for renting.

Great location for the river view and within easy walking distance to local eateries and a range of shops. The property was reasonably comfortable but the unique fitout may not be to everyone's taste.

We found the old house by the river just superb for us. It is full of character filled with books, art pieces and memorabilia from yesteryear. The kitchen is well decked out. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the patio overlooking the Tweed river enjoying a glass of wine and admiring the wildlife, the spectacular sunsets and sunrises. The place is kept in very good order and our host was most helpful and cordial.

Close to town centre, 5 min ride to the start of the Rail Trail. Great location, right on the River.
Property was described as 2 bathrooms. however it has one combined toilet/bathroom which was a challenge for 4 adults. Air conditioning did not work in master bedroom.
It is an older property and as suggested on website it is not 5 star but location was perfect for our 2 day weekend stay to ride the Rail Trail and enjoy a drink overlooking the river after our ride.

Enjoyed a 2 night stay in this eclectic cottage. Lovely river views, spacious, dog friendly, and felt like we were staying in an op shop. So much to enjoy. Cheryl was so lovely and helpful, with plenty of ideas and suggestions for things for us to do. Would love to return some day.

A Magnificent Place to Stay
This is a big, charming, comfortable home on the riverside just a short walk to the best part of town. The house is filled with art, books and other fascinations. Sophisticated and homely.
The host is engaging, generous and genuinely cares. We wish we had time for a longer stay.

Quirky
We had a last minute cancellation in Byron Bay due to Covid during peak season. We needed a place urgently that would also be dog friendly. And so we unexpectedly found ourselves in beautiful Murwillumbah at a cute and quirky home on the river. We enjoyed looking around this place which is filled with the owner’s treasured flea market finds, antiques and original artworks. Drinks on the deck on rickety chairs, watching the sun go down and the flying foxes following their river route to dinner, was a great way to finish a long stressful drive from Sydney.

Great Location
An older house- yes there is musty smell but we were told about that. Everything works and is in good order.
Good location and great having breakfast on the deck by the river. We appreciated our time here. Shops etc in walking distance.

Good location
We enjoyed the location, river view and proximity to town. However, we were in the property. We both noticed a musty smell from the moment we entered and we both had hay fever whilst we were there. I think this is because the furnishings and artefacts are old and the lady who cleans the property could never maintain a dust free environment. The kitchen area was clean, except for the windows and screens. But it was the outside deck which was most disappointing because of the old furniture and cushions. We opted to bring out the dining room chairs and sit on them. The photos do not show the poor maintenance of the yard, entry and construction that is happening on the back deck. We will not be returning.

Positives: Location, view over river, walking distance to everything and short drives to many places. Main areas( bathroom, kitchen, linens)all clean and well provided. Antique/ retro decor.Negatives: After a day or so the charm is lost by the musty smell of old furniture, cobwebs and much dust accumulated by the overabundance of eclectic furniture and artifacts. Felt like we were house sitting for Margaret Olley!(Google it)

Good location
Some of the reviews mentioned that the house was older and quaint. It was older than in the pictures and in fairness, I was told to look at the pictures carefully before committing. It is a very busy house with lots of clutter.
The kitchen and eating areas were fine and functional, and I think the main bedroom was also fine. The second bathroom was very ordinary.
Essential areas were clean but window ledges were covered in dust. Outside cushions were marked.
Initial impression was a shock but it grew on the four of us.

A great place to stay and ideal position.
Loved being right by the river and so central to all those places to be explored.
The place is very homely and comfortable. Lots of art and second hand bits and pieces to be found.
Cheryl was very easily accessed, extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. Thank you Cheryl.
You might need to change the description as we could not find a 2nd toilet anywhere but that was not a problem. Thank you for allowing us into your home.

Fantastic Location and a great cottage
We loved the cottage and the location. Being so close to town was great and we often walked into town for coffee or meals. The tips given by Cheryl were awesome and we did use quite a few of those for the week we were there. The cottage is great and suited us well, however if you have younger children it probably wouldn't be your best bet. The quirkiness is very cool but if you had kids that couldn't keep their hands to themselves that could be challenge. Our only other comment would be that we were told the back was fully fenced, however if you have a dog that can jump it won't be suitable. We did fix other fencing that was lacking and purchased some mesh and added an extra layer to the back "fence" as it is only around 80cm high and our little 10kg staffy could jump straight up on top of it. It you have a small dog that doesn't jump you will be fine, however we did have to take matters into our own hand to secure it for our dog. The jetty next door makes it so easy to use. We tied our boat up to that jetty for the week and could just walk down and sit under the shade while others were ski-ing and be able to get back to the house for anything we forgot. Cheryl was very accessible and easy to deal with and helped with the small things we couldn't work out how to do. We will be back for sure.

This was our second stay. Fantastic place and pet friendly. Make sure to read the property description carefully though as it may not suit all.

Country Charmer
An 'olde worlde' home on the river bank. Top marks for comfort, convenience, and charm. We thoroughly enjoyed our ten day stay in Murwillumbah at this property.

Country Charmer is being too kind
The place is only good for demolition. Cobwebs everywhere, and inch of dust on ceiling fans so could not be used unless we wanted to be showered in it. "Clean" tea towels still had food stuck to them which could be easily flicked off. Coffee machine dispensed the coffee into the pod receptacle instead of into the cup. On the positive side - there was plenty of toilet paper.
