Our stay here was FANTASTIC because it was exactly what we were looking for- a REAL cabin in the woods on a lake. This is not fancy, but has so much character that all it’s quirks add to the charm. Many quirks that could irritate some people but we thought they were great! Our hosts were wonderful…very nice and incredibly responsive. We will definitely be back! Five star OVERALL experience for sure.

I was so thankful for this perfect auxiliary cabin that was primarily used for sleeping and showering. Our family has grown too big for all to have a bed at the place we have used for years and this was just down the road making it easy to still spend days and evenings together. Early morning fishing off the dock was pretty successful as well. Cabin is as pictured. It is old, but it was clean. Host was great.....thanks Dave!

Just as described. We really enjoyed our stay. Had everything we needed even plenty of wood for bonfires.

The cabin was in an ideal location for my stay. It was just within 15 minutes from Franfort. It was centralized to a few other towns and sights I wanted to visit, so made it easy to come by and drop off stuff.
Dave was a great host. He stopped by and gave up a lay of the land and recommendations. Also, I didn't read the description part about brining my own bed linens and he was kind enough to swing by with some for us to borrow.
The cabin is older, but just what you think a cabin would be like. Didn't have time to use the row boats at the back dock.
I would highly recommend. You will be able to get a quiet night's sleep for sure!

We enjoyed David and the location of the cabin. The cabin was everything we expected it to be from the photos and the reviews. We did wish there was some more beach area at our cabin. David did offer his beach area which was just across the street from the cabin.

Rustic log cabin
Just what expected or better. Not a luxury hotel but a piece of history with modern amenities.

While Dave, the property owner, was a perfect host and we appreciated the outdoor amenities (dock, boat, canoe, firepit, patio furniture) we were disappointed with the condition of the 1940 cabin. The entire cabin smelled musty and the smell never went away despite having windows open and fans running the entire week. The bathroom was literally slanted and leaning with torn spots in the stained vinyl flooring as well as two soft spots where we were afraid to walk due to the floor falling in. The roof support posts over the front door were rotted, dirty/cob webs and the roof was sagging. The vaulted ceiling lent an airy, open feeling, however the beams needed a desperate dusting. The kitchen was well stocked, however, the counters and flooring were old and dingy. It also needs a good exterminator. This cabin could be fabulous with a remodel and if the owner would spend the money to remodel, and raise the rent, both the owner and future renters would be happy, but currently is UNSAFE. Not sure how previous renters could see past these major issues. Suggestion to the owners: remove the bed in the back storage room and add washer/dryer and a dishwasher! We are not ones to write a bad review, however, this cabin is not safe.

Authentic and rustic log cabin on a lake
We needed to coordinate a family vacation with my sister’s family. She was staying at a RV park up near Empire. We don’t have a trailer or motorhome, so I went online to find a cabin. This cabin was exactly what we needed. I have two teenage sons and each had their own bedroom. The kitchen had an adequate assortment of pots/pans/dishes/utensils and we prepared most of our meals in the cabin. The hot water tank is a little undersized, but we knew this coming in because of previous reviews. We timed our showers appropriately and only ran out of hot water once when one of my teenage sons showered too long. The WiFi/internet connection was good. The cabin is centrally located for exploring the area. We went to Frankfort for lunch once, Glen Haven Beach twice, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, hiked on the Empire Bluff Trail and saw a guy parasail right over us, kayaked on Crystal River, had lunch in Glen Arbor, and did a day trip to Mackinac Island. We spent some time at the cabin itself. There is a short path behind the cabin that leads to a dock on Little Platte Lake. A canoe was tied to the dock and we used it on three different occasions. On a few days I drank my morning coffee on the dock and got a nice picture of a loon stretching its wings. There is a fire pit right behind the cabin and logs/kindling were already there. I would be remiss if I did not mention Dave; he was more of a host than a property manager. He met us at the cabin even though we arrived late because of traffic problems around Detroit. He responded quickly to any questions we had. He let us borrow a kayak to use on Little Platte Lake. My wife forgot her hairdryer and Dave lent us one of his. Dave also gave us an evening pontoon boat ride on Little Platte Lake and we saw an eagle’s nest with three young eagles in it. My wife got some very nice pictures of it. We also saw a snapping turtle, two swans, and some more loons. Overall, it was an excellent family vacation and the week went quickly.

Great weekend stay!
Great location! Enjoyed the dock and boat. Happy to have a fire pit for relaxing evening and morning fires. The cabin is cozy, quiet, and unique. A true experience for those bored with standard hotel stays!

Needs some improvement
PROS:
•Nice location - especially if you want to spend time fishing, kayaking, tubing, swimming, or sunning on a beach - as there are lakes and rivers everywhere.
•Solitude - It’s very quiet. We occasionally heard a car pass by; neighbors were there but barely noticeable.
•Wifi, TV and DVD player are helpful on rainy days.
•Use of a small rowboat and canoe on their dock, which is a short walk through the woods
•Wood is available for the small campfire ring in the backyard.
•Gas grill in the backyard (We were disappointed that it ran out of propane during our first use. To be fair, we didn’t notify Dave - he may have replaced it.)
•Great host - Dave is extremely kind and helpful.
CONS:
•Professional extermination is needed.
•Water heater is undersized - not enough hot water for 3 people to take 5-minute showers; washing dishes had to wait.
•I would not have stayed here if photos of the rough bathroom were included in the listing.
FYI, the property owners live elsewhere and are not the hosts.

Wonderful Little Cabin
My best friend, his dad and I go to Benzonia every year to fish for salmon and this year we decided to do a cabin so we could cook. This place was great it was right between two beautiful lakes with a gorgeous forested approach yet still close to honor, Benzonia and beulah so we had all of our amenities nearby. Dave was more hospitable and accommodating than we could have asked for and it was my best rental experience I’ve ever had. Great cabin, great location and great process it earned its 5 stars if I had to say only one thing that wasn’t ideal it’s that the water heater is very small only enough for one short shower at a time so you just have to schedule showers of multiple people are staying. Small price to pay for the peace and beauty of this area 5 out of 5

Awesome Cabin on the Lake!
This cabin is right on the lake and near the beautiful Sleeping Bear Dunes. The inside is very cozy and welcome, was very clean, well-kept, well-equipped, organized, and had everything we needed. Everything is 1940s style and we loved it! The Trading Post (a 2-minute-walk from the cabin) has most of the things one might have forgotten + good pizza to go and ice cream. We spent time fishing on the dock and gazing and relaxing at the beautiful, peaceful lake. We did several hikes in the nearby area, with gorgeous views. The area is great for lots of outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, etc. + fishing and any kind of boating. There are several rental places nearby for that as well. David is really nice and was always ready to help with anything we needed. He is also very knowledgeable of the whole area and had great tips for us! Keep in mind that this cabin does not have a dishwasher, washer and dryer or air conditioning (plenty of window and other fans around the house, which we did not need to use this time). Since the house is surrounded by trees and at the lake, I don't think there are many times one would need them either. Bring your own towels and bed sheets and everything else is there. Even a nice grill and a fire place outside. We loved our short stay and hope to be back soon for a longer period of time!

quiet
It was very quiet . We say 2 baby deer in the backyard. I like staying in a cabin then a hotel cause we are all together. They had everything we need for in the kitchen. I am sure we will stay there again.
