Fossil Springs and fossil Creek area little know wonders of the rim country of central Arizona. As this scenic canyon approaches the base of the Mogollon Rim, it suddenly transforms from a rather typical high desert canyon to an amazing water wonderland. Directions: turn left on Fossil Creek Road (FR708) at Strawberry Lodge in the town of Strawberry. Go 4 miles west on a dirt road. Turn right and progress .5 mile to the trailhead parking lot.
Railroad Tunnel Trail TR390. Go north trough Whispering pines past the first fork in the road (keep going straight) until you come to the next road that turns right on FR32 (see sign to Washington Park). Drive about 5 miles on gravel road to Washington Park trailhead parking lot. Once on the trail, watch for small sign on the trail that goes to the right up a steeper climb to the railroad tunnel. After resting at the tunnel, you can conyinue your hike to the top of the rim. There you will will a historical marker that describes the battle of Big Dry Wash where 16 to 27 warriors were killed. If you follow the road 1 mile further north you come to General Springs Cabin which was built in 1918 and used for man years ass a fire guard station. Total hike from the parking lot is about 3 hours. Take water to drink and wear good shoes.

My family had such a good time at this cabin. They had everything you need it for a fun family getaway, including wood for a fire and Marshmello holders to make s’mores. They also had a list of places to go hiking, and we found a fun little hike and swimming area, the children really enjoyed the treehouse and lookout area

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. We loved the trampoline, tree swing, hammock, and tree house in the yard to make this a unique experience. The cabin is nice and spacious. Check-in/out were very smooth and easy. It was a nice escape from the Phx heat for a few days. I would definitely stay here again.

Perfect location! Our family enjoyed fishing at the second crossing and waterwheel. The host has thought of everything you could possibly need while staying at the property. My grandson especially enjoyed feeding the blue jays and squirrels peanuts!

Everyone enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere in the forest.
Loved seeing all of the deer.

We stayed at this cabin over 4th of July week. It was perfect for us and another family to share. The kids loved the sleeping loft and all the activities- darts and ping pong, splashing in the water feature, the treehouse, etc. It was pretty warm that week but the portable ac units for each room made everything comfortable.

Amazing stay with so many things to do there. Cheaper then hotel stay if you add up your party. Very well stocked with supplies. Neighbors were very friendly. Drive slow. It rained during our stay and that was so nice to drink coffee and watch it rain. Also we saw elk in the mornings. And a friendly little squirrel would visit us on the deck. A much needed weekend getaway for us.

Enjoyed the beautiful creek/waterfall. Property was very clean and welcoming. Look forward to future stays!

Very dusty and stains on blankets, needs better cleaning. Toilet seat is cracked and pinches you. Neighbor threatened us and was watching what we were doing. Room a/c unit exhaust broken blowing hot air into the room.
Otherwise the property and area is beautiful. Creek nearby. Nice man-made creek on the property. Great location. The ping pong was fun, lots of activities for kids.

Pictures made it seemed it was more secluded ,cabin is at the end of a neighborhood corner and the neighbor had roosters that would crow in the early hours every morning

Me and my family had a good time the kids loved it have no real issue with the place except for the neighbor that seemed to have an issue with us

Log Cabin in the Pines had everything we needed to fully enjoy our stay. Appliances, cookware, linens, games, nearby hiking, outdoor cooking and stocked cupboards of staples. Initially we thought it was a bit remote but with a Walmart, Home Depot, restaurants, service stations etc just a short, scenic 10 mile trip down the mountain away, it turned out to be a great launch point for our motorcycling touring.

This was the perfect location for our family trip. The cabin was super comfortable and the kids all lamented that we couldn't stay longer. Our night at the fire pit included a visit from some elk! The kids had a blast playing all over the property.

We booked this cabin as it was our first family easter together and wanted to make unforgettable memories. Well that is for sure was made. As we walked in the cabin we came into a smell threw out the cabin and discovered moldy rags and towels in a hamper in the laundry room. As I looked around this cabin wasn't cleaned at all prior to our arrival. Blood stains on comforter and on rugs that they had hanging on the balcony. Floors and counter sticky and gross. You couldn't walk around bare footed due to the amount of dirt and stickiness on the floors Dishes and Utensils not cleaned. If we wanted to use them we had to wash them first. We brought dinners to cook, but the stove and oven so dirty we didn't want to use them and had to spend money to eat out instead. Outside door knob was held up with electrical tape and a screw that was to long. Swim shorts on top of a ceiling fan. Towels not clean. Showers had hair and just all disgusting. most fire detectors were removed. I had to wash all the bedding before sleeping in them as there was blood on the bedding. Memories were made but not the kind I or my family wanted. Would of been better staying in a hotel. We did reach out to vrbo and still waiting on a response. Yes we took pictures and video to back up these statements.

Our kids were so excited about the forest and tree house that they didn’t even bother to stay inside and be on electronics! It was great for our family to get away. Highly recommend this place.

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It had all the essentials and comfort needed for family of five and our dog. Kids enjoyed hanging out in upstairs loft and garage game room!
Cabin is close to multiple great hikes next to river/creek. Kids loved climbing rocks and getting i to water on the hikes.
Front of the house is very close to neighbors across the road, but back yard with the patio is very private.
Overall, was good stay for spring break! Thanks!

The place was beautiful! We had an extended family of 14 and it was plenty of room for all of us! The cabin was very inviting and comfortable. The ping pong table in the garage was so much fun! Downtown Payson, Pine and Strawberry were very close by. Would stay here again for sure! Thank you Greg!

This cabin was great it had everything. Family enjoyed staying on the cabin. Played board games and the kids enjoyed the trampoline. Then enjoy family time at fire pit at night. Great experience I will come back again for sure.

Nice large cabin in a very welcoming little neighborhood out in the woods. Even the animals were very nice. We got to hand feed some wild Elk! Little general store down the road if you need supplies, and Payson is only 20 minutes away if you really need. Would definitely stay again!

Great place to stay with kids ages 6+. Lots for them to do on site while adults can hike or explore area trails. Younger kids might have trouble navigating the steep terrain at cabin. Bring in your food and there’s really no reason to leave! There is weak or no cell service but the Wi-Fi at cabin was great. Owners have a real gem of a property here and thank you for letting us use it. PS we enjoyed the visits from the elk every day

This property provided tons of adventurous exploring for the kids. The cliff edge and water feature were especially impressive. We had everything we needed for comfortable rest and meal preparation. We also enjoyed an outing to the near by river to cool off in the chilly water.

The cabin is spectacular and the amenities amazing. The kids had so much fun in the trampoline, in the tree house, and playing with the water feature. We had a herd of elk show up just off the porch several evenings and got to enjoy Water Wheel, Tonto Natural Bridge, and several other hikes and sights in the area. Caught crawdads for our dinner two nights and made a couple side trips up to Pine and Strawberry for empanadas and shopping. The neighbors were wonderful people as well and even have us some fresh eggs from their chicken coop. What a great place to spend the hottest week of the year!
