Originally the kitchen of a large Victorian home built in the 1860s, this elegant, unique English basement apartment has seen a lot of history here in the Nation's Capital, and its current incarnation is versatile, sleek and compact with sunny front windows that receive lots of morning light.
The unit is equipped with cable, WiFi, a 43" smart TV, a Bose stereo and a full-size washer/dryer. A peaceful, private, walled garden with three water features in the rear and a small gas-powered wood stove in the living room further enhance the unit's unique charm. Dish and laundry soap are provided, as are shampoo, conditioner, soap, a blow-dryer and clean towels. Bed linens are provided. Inquire about additional maid service if you need it. There’s a grocery store, a convenience store, and a liquor store within a block, and up 14th Street there’s a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe's.
There is street parking only, and on request a residential parking permit is provided at no charge. The permit’s allows parking in the restricted areas around the home. You will need to provide your vehicle's plate number, state, make and color in advance of your arrival when requesting the pass.
There is a Capital Bikeshare across the street and scooter, Smart Car and Segway rental locations nearby.

So the flat was in a decent area, about 10 minutes from a Tatte Bakery and 30 minutes walk from the Smithsonians. Nice neighbourhood. Tom gave me a parking permit too for my car which was great. Apartment was nice, well equipped kitchen and we used the washing machine there so that was grateful for that. Quiet and a very pleasant stay much recommended!!!!

In addition to being in a great location, Tom's apartment has everything you could need! And I'm not just talking about the kitchen (gadgets and spices galore, even coffee!), he had enough laundry supplies, reusable shopping bags, miscellaneous bathroom supplies....literally everything we needed for a perfect stay! There is a market just a couple blocks away for food or other needs, but I felt like we could have stayed a month at Tom's place. Our communication was very easy, he quickly answered all my questions. Check in and out was easy. We used public transit so didn't need to worry about parking a car. Our kids slept in the bedroom and my husband and I used the living room couch/bed, which was comfortable for a couch/bed. The well-stocked kitchen made it possible for us to eat breakfast and dinner at home most days. We had a great time, thanks Tom!

We had a really lovely stay at Tom's apartment. The unit was very clean, and Tom provided so many generous amenities for us to use during our stay, including a parking permit (upon request) which was a lifesaver!
I really enjoyed the binder full of recommendations that Tom left for guests. This was the holy grail for us, I used his recommendations for finding good places to get coffee, dinner, activities, you name it!
Tom maintained great communication prior to, during, and after out stay. Overall, we had a wonderful stay, and I look forward to staying at Tom's again soon!

We had an awesome stay at Tom's place in Logan Circle. The apartment is very well appointed and suit our family of four really well. Main bed is really comfortable ... and living room sofa bed is very comfortable as well. It is a cozy space but perfect for all four of us as a home base to check out all of the nearby sites. Quiet with Great restaurants nearby. Thorough binder provided with lots of recommendations ... all that we visited were fabulous.
Tom was a great/responsive host. We truly enjoyed our stay with our teenagers! Thanks!

We had a wonderful first stay in DC! The apartment was well stocked and had everything we needed. Tom was accommodating and provided us with a parking permit for the duration of our stay. Would stay here again.

Tom was extremely helpful with communications.
The bathroom and galley kitchen were clean and well stocked.
The massive problem we had was that the moment we opened the door the horrendous smell of mould hit us and was worrying as my wife is an asthmatic.
The back open area was a complete disappointment and did not reflect what was promised online.
Thankfully we only had to stay three nights.
I am not commenting on the number of flies and mosquitoes so we were unable to have any fresh air as we kept the doors closed.

This is a perfectly appointed one-bedroom apartment in a cool neighborhood well within a mile or so of most things you’d want to see. Great walk ability to all kinds of monuments, galleries, restaurants and bars. My husband and I celebrated our 40th with sightseeing and great meals. Host Tom was super responsive. We will be back!

We had a wonderful time in DC staying in this clean and comfortable apartment. Close to the Metro (7 minutes), within walking distance of the White House (19 minutes), close to Whole Foods (13 minutes)--after a busy day touring the Capitol it was lovely to come back to our cozy home away from home.

We were so close to the metro. It made our stay so easy to navigate. The property was perfect and had everything we needed.

Delightful property within half a mile of the metro with wonderful restaurants and grocery stores close by. Our family of four was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our week in DC. We very much appreciated having a washer and dryer and felt at home. Tom was an amazing host and responded quickly to any questions I had. He also personally went to the property the morning of our departure to check for something my daughter thought she left behind. We would definitely stay at this property again.

This private apartment met all our needs and then some.

3. ). Private koi pond in backyard is perfect when you need to have a little "me" time.

We absolutely loved our stay!

We had a great stay. The apartment was just as described. Perfect for two. Well equipped and the host was very responsive before and during our stay. Excellent location for biking (or walking) to the sights; and the parking pass was a huge bonus.

This apartment is spotless, comfortable, and well appointed. The location is perfect with very good restaurants around the corner.
It is 2 short blocks to the 14th St bus that will take you to the museums on The Mall and the White House, as well as to the wonderful restaurants in the area of Trader Joe's. It is a nice walk to both neighborhoods, if that is your preference.
Tom, the owner, is cordial, welcoming, and helpful.

The basement apartment was fully functional for our stay. Separate entry, clean, full kitchen, nice bathroom and the bed was comfortable (not worn out). The three ring binder with information related to the apartment and to the DC area was very helpful. I texted Tom a couple times with questions about DC. He replied promptly with helpful information. We didn’t venture out at night but we felt safe walking in and around the area. We had no issues with our stay.

Tom was an excellent host! He made sure I had a parking pass and knew exactly where to park and made sure to emphasize moving my vehicle while I was there. We were able to use the Metro the whole week and it was a short walk to the closest station. We walked to the Whitehouse for our tour too! I loved walking the neighborhood in the evening and Logan Circle is close and a must see! Thank you again Tom for letting us stay!

This was such a great place to stay for our tour of DC. The property was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. There were many restaurants, a few Michelin rated and just a short ride away they were started. There were grocery stores and liquor stores within walking distance. It was about a mile walk to the National Mall or you could take the Metro just a short walk down the street. Tom the host was available to answer any questions. Overall this was just a great place!

Our stay at this VRBO was perfect for us. Great location—we walked all over D.C. and we were lucky to have pretty decent weather for December. It was nice to come back to a comfortable apartment as a little refuge to refuel and rest. Felt like we got to experience a little bit of history in this cheerful row house situated in a cute D.C. neighborhood, complete with a charming little garden in the back. Tom was a great host, friendly and patient with all of my questions. We hope to get back again and stay at this great location.

Good walkable location.

This spacious basement place is ideally located, close to most tourist sites (and the Metro), but in a residential area with a nice non-tourist feel, Communication with Tom, who lives above, was easy for booking and while we were there - although there were friendly chats rather than issues with the apartment.
We hope to get back soon

Tom's place was just what we were looking for – close to the mall and so well equipped. It was 22 degrees while we were there so the portable heater was much appreciated! We will definitely be back.

The apartment was a great location for us, while I was at a conference at the convention center! We enjoyed the convenience of the metro stop a short distance away from the apartment. I would definitely recommend to others!

This place was just right. Located in a walkable neighborhood close to everyone, the apartment was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. I walked everywhere while I was here. When I didn't walk, it was a short 4 blocks to the Mt. Vernon metro stop, or a few blocks along 13th St. to catch a bus down Mass. Ave. The property manager was professional and responsive. Loved this place and would highly recommend it.

Really enjoyed our stay at Tom’s VRBO. He has thought of everything. The central location and ease of walking to the metro made this a fantastic place to stay.

This was a wonderful place to stay in DC! The place is immaculate, the kitchen was well stocked, and Tom was a great host! The neighborhood and surrounding area was very nice, and the location was central to almost everything. It was very easy getting in and out and even when I had a few questions, Tom answered me through text. He’s really up on his game – and I wish I had looked in the little closet in the living room before I walk to Whole Foods and carried packages back. He actually has a shopping cart and shopping bags in that closet. Don’t be like me – look first because it’s so convenient to have that! The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was very clean and lovely. Our only complaint was the futon/bed. It was not very comfortable at all. I did make Tom aware of this, and it seems like he’s going to get something new. Other than that it was one of the best stays we’ve had!
