About this cottage rental
Centrally located in the heart of Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, The Honeymoon Cottage is the ideal place for couples, honeymooners, hiking/kayaking and biking adventures, fishing and more!
The Honeymoon Cottage was built at the dead end of a dirt road as a guesthouse in 1930 as part of a resort along the lines of the Patrick Swayze Dirty Dancing movie, in which people from away would rent a cottage with access to a mess hall, roller rink, tennis courts and of course the beach.
Only vestiges remain with the kind of privacy, views and open space that you would expect. Many of the larger houses were torn down, including the main house to the Honeymoon Cottage in 2018.
The Honeymoon Cottage is the very last cottage at the dead end of a quiet dirt road with spacious grounds and the best views in the whole association. We may rebuild the main house some day, but right now we love the large lot and privacy!
Named The Honeymoon Cottage because of it's doll house look, diminutive size and complete privacy, this is a classic Vermont cottage completely renovated in 2016. It has been outfitted with modern conveniences without losing the country charm that relaxes you the moment you step in the door.
The Honeymoon Cottage has one bedroom with a queen size bed and a small bunk room with built in beds for 2 kids with french doors leading to a large deck with panoramic views overlooking the lake and mountains. There is one bath with a walk in shower. The cottage can sleep 2 adults and 2 children comfortably.
Where the main house once stood, we have built a large dog yard. Inquire about it if you want to bring pets! There is a pet fee, which you will see as you check out which covers insurance.
Sitting on top of a knoll which overlooks the lake to the famous Willoughby Gap and mountains, this comfy cottage rests at the end of a short dead-end dirt road so it received ZERO through traffic. Check out the huge outdoor fireplace and the horseshoe pit! With all amenities needed to make it the perfect getaway, why stay anywhere else in Vermont!
The Honeymoon Cottage has cozy chairs on the porch with morning views perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee. Eat meals around the table on the deck before you head down to Edgewood's private sandy beach for swimming, fishing or boating. The table has and umbrella and the deck a large gas grill. We keep kayaks and sand chairs in the storage space under the deck and you are welcome to use them. If you have a large boat, the public fishing access is only a mile away with free parking, and you are welcome to moor off our beach. There's also ample seating around the firepit - the perfect place for a sunset bonfire.
There are two large free public beaches in addition to our small private one. You will find several country stores where you can stock up on fishing supplies, beach gear or just stop for a pizza, soft serve ice cream or deli sandwiches. You do not have to drive into town!
Cable has finally come to the lake bring with it many TV options and high speed internet. If you must, you can "work from home" or watch a special event on our smart TV above the fireplace.
This year more winterizing has allowed us to extend our season for spring ice fishing, skiing and other late fall and early spring accommodations. If you do not see the dates you would like, just shoot us an email.

Lovely cottage with beautiful view and relaxing atmosphere

The view of the lake and mountains is amazing. The house itself was very comfortable and clean with plenty of places inside and out to relax and stretch out. We also had daily visits from a deer and her fawn (from a hundred yards or so away, of course). This is definitely our new spot for NEK getaway times.

The cabin was a perfect place to stay. The views and property are amazing. My dogs loved the fenced in area. I cannot recommend this place enough. Tim was a great host and made sure to stop by and say hello and to check that we were okay.

Took my elderly mother to see the early fall leaves. The property is largely accessible for someone who uses a walker. There are a couple of steps into the cabin. In the cabin the doorways are wide enough for a walker. The shower is walk-in (no grab bars of course). We brought a small portable raised toilet which worked well. The view from the deck and porch is lovely. The dogs loved the dog pen area. I was concerned about possibly being cold given it’s shoulder season, but the cabin was toasty with the gas fireplace. We could drive down/across 5A to the small private beach for canoe access (though my mother didn’t do that).

We had a great time. Really nice location, at the end of the drive, Tim was great, fair price. Would definitely stay again.

Quaint cottage with gorgeous views. The dog yard and gated porch made it perfect. Comfy! Deer, ducks, geese and loons! The weather was chilly and the fireplace made it cozy. Thank you for a lovely stay.

It’s a great home base for hiking, scenic drives, and any other adventuring you want to do in the gorgeous Northeast Kingdom!

We enjoyed our stay at Tim and Cheryl’s cottage. The deck, porch, and lawn were so comfortable for relaxing views of beautiful Lake Willoughby and for star gazing. The cottage was peaceful and had everything we needed for cooking. Cheryl and Tim were very welcoming and made themselves available to answer all our questions. We enjoyed the Lake Willoughby area trails and beaches and canoeing on the Lake. Hope to come back next year!

Tim and Cheryl were awesome hosts. The cottage was perfect for us and our dog. We loved sitting on the porch watching the lake and loving the quiet.
Be sure to have drinking water and get used to the internet being wonky. Cell service was very sporadic, but we didn't care. It's very dog friendly with a dog run and the porch had a safety gate.
Thanks Tim and Cheryl!!

Perfect Getaway
We had a great stay with our pups! The cottage was perfect size, so cute and cozy & had everything we needed. We actually preferred being up on the the hill away from the busy traffic of the road because the views were amazing! The private beach made for a perfect post hike stop & we even saw an eagle while out on the canoe. Grilling on the deck followed by a fire in the new pit was a great way to wind down. The association was small, quiet and very private. Host was great at communicating, we can’t wait to go back!

Already making plans to return!
Tim and Cheryl have a little gem at Lake Willoughby! The cottage was everything that our family of 4 needed. We were cool and comfortable and enjoyed the use of the kayaks, BBQ, fire pit and space for our dog. The lake access is great and easy to walk to drive down to. Thanks for sharing this location with us!

Serenity
Amazing mountain and lake views and star gazing from large outdoor deck and large warm indoor porch. with lots of screened windows. Plenty of room. I've never seen a firepit big enough for pallets, which we used on several nights. If I could change anything it would be wifi speed but hey, if you're going to the Northeast Kingdom to watch TV you might as well stay home. I will definitely recommend this home ot friends and would like to reserve in the future.

Amazing cottage with a gorgeous view
We were pleasantly surprised from the moment we stepped onto the property. The inside of the cottage was very clean and had everything you could possibly need in the kitchen which was helpful since we did bring food. The porch was an added bonus during the cooler temps in addition to the deck which we enjoyed that even had a gate for the dogs . The dog pen out back was a major part of our decision to stay there and we are very appreciative to Tim and Cheryl for allowing us to bring our dogs with us. They also made it a point to stop by and introduce themselves which was a nice gesture and were always just a phone call away. We are looking forward to going back to the Honeymoon Cottage next year. if you’re thinking of booking this cottage, you won’t be disappointed.

Cabin with much potential
We spend a week with our dogs at the Honeymoon cabin. The owners seem lovely, communication was very, very easy, they were flexible when we added a dog to our vacation and the cabin was tidied when we arrived [i.e. surfaces clearly had been wiped, the floors were clean, etc.] We were a bit disappointed to realize that there is a road between cabin and beach but this was due to our misperception. The road is actually visible in one of the pictures and the other residents and renters at the beach were very lovely. The best part is probably the deck on which we spent many hours when not hiking or kayaking and the large front yard on which the dogs loved to lie to observe the world. [We had brought rope to tie them up so they wouldn't meander to the neighbors.]
In general, I would concur with a previous review that noted that guests might want to bring their own towels and bedding and suggested a water filtration system for the cabin. The well water has a very strong sulfuric smell which is probably not an indication of how objectively clean the water is but did mean that we were unable to enjoy our showers, used store bought water for drinking and coffee, and found it generally unpleasant when washing dishes or doing anything else related to opening the water tab. And while not immediately noticeable, we did eventually wish that the level of cleanliness in the cabin were higher. Upon taking the outside seat cushions off when it was raining, I noticed that all of them were in extreme need of scrubbing, as were the floor runners in the cabin, etc. The cabin also lacked equipment to allow guests to take care of some of these things themselves. There was no vacuum to deal with the sofa cushions, for instance, and not even a dustbin to sweep up.
With these issues addressed, the cabin would be all around fabulous.

Good and bad
The Honeymoon Cottage is beautiful. When we arrived we needed to clean, their was dog hair, dust and crumbs all over everywhere. The refrigerator was filthy. So we do what we do, no complaining just do it. Perhaps I should have sent a cleaning fee bill. Sunday we had family drop over for an impromptu to gathering, we didn't have time to ask, if it was ok, they were there for 3 hours. We checked the webpage and it clearly says events are allowed. Tim stopped by and was not happy but after a discussion he said everything was ok and apologized for over reacting because he was having a bad day. Monday am I was hit with a charge for an unauthorized event. I asked to have a discussion, but only got a nasty response via VRBO email. No one stayed overnight so there were not "extra" people. No extra garbage, they took what they brought. Another couple staying in a cottage above us had a similar experience. Not very good customer service. The cottage and area are beautiful, the water needs a filtration system, very strong sulfur smell. We left the cottage spotless I hope the housekeeper and Tim appreciate that.

Great location
The property is located close to the lake and provides access to water front and boat/kayak that is essential to enjoy your stay. The bunk beds are small and may not fit adults but my teens didn’t have problem. We recommend to make sure to bring your own bed sheets and bathing towels and stuff for personal hygiene (hand soap, shampoo, tooth paste etc) to ensure you are going to enjoy your stay. We didn’t think what was provided were up to our standard for cleanliness. Otherwise the hosts were very friendly, available and helpful. Great experience.

just right
Our stay at this rental was just right-- even with a rainy day, our kids had a great time. The house was set up nicely, with all the things we needed. We especially appreciated the way things were set up to accomodate dogs-- a gate on the porch, a fenced in yard, and even a lead at the beach. Owners made sure to connect and help us settle in.

Lake Cottage
We booked the honeymoon cottage with lake view for a few days of escape and loved it! The cottage is perfect for a couple with indoor fireplace for chilly mornings, a terrific deck to take in the views and a screened in porch. We enjoyed the many activities available in the area - mountain biking, swimming, walking - all the best of Vermont. Cheryl and Tim were so friendly and made themselves available for anything that you may need. We look forward to visiting again next summer!

Perfect getaway for two and our dogs
Cheryl and Tim were great hosts. They met us upon arrival and walked us through everything we needed to know. The house is a great little place. Super clean and in a great location. We were able to bring our dogs with us and they loved the dog pen, gated deck and beach. Located at the end of a dead end road, we had plenty of privacy but didn’t feel isolated. The Lake Store and Gap Pub were close by for whatever we needed. I can’t wait to book this place again.

great cottage with a nice view!
My family (myself, husband, 2 year old, and dog) had a great stay! Our 2 year old loved climbing into the big kid bed (we brought bumpers so she wouldn't fall out and it worked great), and everyone loved the outdoor space and sun room. There are great views of the lake from the deck/sunroom and yard, our dog loved swimming at the private beach across the street, and the cottage is a very quick drive to the beaches and general store. If we return to Lake Willoughby we would definitely stay here again.

Gorgeously Homely Cabin with an Amazing View
I've been coming to Westmore since I was a kid, and for the past 6 years I've been a camper more than a cabin goer... but after this stay, that's changed. The cabin itself is incredible, very comfortable with a very open format; that, paired with the slope that it's on, really let you feel the breeze through the cabin, especially on the hot days when you need it. This location was fantastic! The distance between neighbors was perfect for the privacy we wanted, all while providing the perfect view overlooking Lake Willoughby. Can't say enough good things about this location, it's perfectly picturesque and may have potentially hooked me to keep coming back to this spot in particular. 10/10 would stay here immediately again.

Delightful stay!
Great location, peaceful, quiet all we needed during this pandemic. Amenities are awesome, canoe, paddle boat, kayaks, fishing pole, Little private beach down the hill, great view on the mountain while enjoying a bond fire with s’mores! Only downside was the beds, we love firm mattress and we did not get that. Still we would gladly return! Hosts (Tim & Sheryl) are super helpful and very nice, they answered our emails in no time. Highly recommend!
