We arrived late at night and the property felt like you were quite remote -- which can be good or bad. Apple maps took us right there.
The check in instructions were good but lacked some information inside the unit. Some of the sheets were not clean and there was no ice in the fridge. One of the fuses had tripped and the panel was not accessible. The AC was struggling to keep up with the summer heat.
Lack of cleanliness of bed linens put things on the wrong footing but property has great potential.

We enjoyed our time in the area, which offers great hiking and waterfall experiences. Town was cute and had some good restaurants.
The property listing grossly underestimates the time it takes to get into town. We found it took almost 10 minutes to get down the steep drive to the main road, and another 10 or so to get in to Brevard. This was a drawback for us.
Icemaker mentioned in listing was not working. Pick up a bag of ice in town before you go up the mountain.
Showerheads in both bathrooms were very low output; you had to really work to get wet and then to rinse off.
The wonderful view from the porch was partially blocked by an overgrown tree smack in the middle of the vista; trimming it would greatly improve things.
Kitchen is reasonably well outfitted for cooking, and the gas grill is a nice touch.
If we return to the area, we will look for something a bit closer in.

The property is great. Everything you need is there, and the view is priceless. Beautiful sunrises every day were awesome. I would recommend getting there in the daylight the first time, as the driveway is exciting. 100 percent would recommend.

We've stayed at 15+ homes and have had great experiences. Unfortunately, not here. 1. Finding the property is difficult because there is no clear signage of where to turn off the shared road. The directions reference turning at a mailbox, but the mailbox numbers are not legible. Adding a sign would make things easier.
2. The driveway is very steep and windy. It is very tight if you have a long-wheelbase vehicle, and it is also washing away in several sections.
3. The kitchen, bathrooms, furnishings, and appliances need to be updated. When renting a mountain home at this price point, you expect a certain level of quality. For example, the refrigerator water needs to be hooked up for water/ice, and the ice trays are cracked. The refrigerator is also missing a shelf. We can write about a dozen issues like this, but the post would be too long.
4. The home has AC units, not central air. They run constantly and are loud in the summer heat. This constant mechanical noise ruins the ambiance of the mountain setting. You can’t hear any of the sounds of nature. If you turn off the AC units and try to run the ceiling fans in the bedrooms, the noise is even worse.
5. The mountain views from the porch are blocked. The undergrowth and tree limbs have not been trimmed in many years, drastically reducing the long-range mountain views.
6. The gutters are clogged and have small brush growing in them. Although this did not affect our stay, it raised concern about the home's overall upkeep.

A beautiful visit! The view is worth a stay, very peaceful and private. Close to many great amenities in Brevard and tons of hiking and outdoor activities. Pay attention to the access, the drive is long, narrow (one way) and extremely steep gravel. Also the address takes you to the incorrect location, the turnoff is the next one down off walnut hollow called Henry mountain Rd. If you take the first whipperwill you end up in someone's yard, yikes.

Great view and cabin was clean and well kept!

Wonderful sunrise views from this mountaintop setting. Very quiet and peaceful; just far enough from town to feel like you're in the country, but close enough to run in town for a meal. Comfortable bedding with memory foam matresses. Great stay!

So quiet with a wonderful view. The drive up the hill was challenging. Ac consists of window units. Upstairs shower is very small.

My wife and I took our 3 month old on a short weekend getaway and we enjoyed this home very much! Ver cozy and clean and the view is perfect. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay here again on our next trip.

Drive to the property is steep gravel road. We encountered a few harmless spiders in the corners of hallway or bathrooms that were easily dispatched. The blind over the door at the end of the hall doesn't fonalway the way to the bottom of the glass. The air was a little humid when we arrived but that was quickly resolved with the units in the home. These minor issues were the only negatives for my family. The porch and views were incredible. Even though we didn't cook on our short stay, the kitchen is very nice and guests could cook if they wanted. The fireplace was nice and would be enjoyable in cool weather. The wifi worked well. We were able to use the smart TV and Roku to stream our indoor entertainment. We've stayed in the area many times so we were plased with the location and the quiet seclusion of the property. My boys enjoyed the upstairs bedroom. I also was very pleased with the responsiveness of the owner. I would recommend this property if you are looking for a secluded getaway with great views.

Bear's Rest was exactly that! We hiked all day in Dupont and retreated to the top of a mountain for a great night's rest. The views were spectacular.
Caution- they are not kidding about the drive...it's steep...well worth it!

Just what we needed. The house is nice and the property is amazing, so peaceful and quiet. We woke up every morning and had coffee on the front porch and watched the sun come up over the ridgelines. Would definitely recommend to anyone that asks and return in the future.

The porch and the fireplace are the highlights of this house. The porch is wraparound with plenty of comfortable furniture to relax. It was chilly when we were there but still bundled up to watch the sunrise with my morning coffee. I would love to come back in the summer when we can truly enjoy the great porch and property. On the chilly evenings we enjoyed sitting in front of the gas fireplace. The house is equipped with everything we needed. Hosts were very responsive when we had a question. The road to get to the home is a bit of a challenge - it’s gravel and there are some ruts to watch out for. The last little bit is very steep, but by that point it’s paved again. With that said, the view and the property is worth the climb. One note about pillows: if you’re particular about pillows you may want to bring your own. The pillows on the 2 king beds are very thick and dense. We found them uncomfortable. Were did find a 2 that worked better in the upstairs bedroom closet. Great property, I would recommend it if you’re looking for a beautiful place to relax.

We loved this cabin in the woods! Yes, steep drive but totally doable! And it’s worth it to have the beautiful views sunrise and sunset. It was easy to get to brevard and hiking. Overall a very enjoyable stay! Will book again!

We loved our stay at this spacious mountain home. Wonderful porches with a great view! The climb (winding road to get there) is worth the view!

We had a relaxing stay. The house is just as it appears in the pictures and it is really quiet at the end of the road. I was nervous about the driveway after reading some other posts. It really wasn’t bad - just one turn was a little extra! We will stay here again when we come up to the area!

We enjoyed the view and privacy this cabin afforded. Our grandson woke up each morning excited to see the mountains shrouded in mist. We loved the proximity to Brevard, Pisgah National Forest, and DuPont Stste Park. The cabin has been updated nicely and is well stocked with many amenities.

Had a wonderful time - well equipped, comfortable home. Great outdoor spaces for relaxing and enjoying the views. Close to Brevard and to lots of activities, but feels like you're a million miles away. Loved being able to bring our pup. Would stay again despite two negatives - ants in the kitchen and a confusing HVAC situation.

Lovely home nestled in the mountains with truly wonderful views. Had everything we needed. Highly recommend.

Bear's Rest is lovely and check in was the simplest we have ever experienced. The home is spotless and has everything you need. Brevard is lovely and eclectic. We came here for trout fishing and hiking deep into the mountains. We caught plenty of trout daily which helped make every day perfect to include waking up to stunning sunrises and sipping drinks on the deck to witness breathtaking sunsets. We will be back!

Moons Rest is a beautiful property with amazing views and a clean comfortable and attractive home. Mountain top curvy driveway as should be expected for described location . This is entirely manageable and we found it part of the appeal ( we have a 4 wheel drive diesel truck) . 1st trip up to house ideally done in daylight for best navigation. Ideal location for us ! Unparalleled views !

We love the property, very clean and organized, the views are amazing, and the cabin is very cozy we spent 3 nights there and we love it. Just not easy to get there, we got in the night time and we almost got lost, you definitely need an SUV.

Really enjoyed the property and the wonderful view from the front porch. The only down side was the driveway with very tight curves which were not great if you are driving a vehicle with a long wheel base, like a pickup even with 4wd.
5.0
This was a really great property, and wow the view cannot be beat - simply spectacular! The only thing I would recommend is to make sure you have an SUV, preferably with AWD. The drive to the top isn't for the faint-hearted, but with the right vehicle you'll be fine and it's totally worth the trek!!

Home has wonderful views and is very quiet. It's still close to downtown so venturing out isn't a problem. Wonderful place to stay.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in your lovely house and had a wonderful and very relaxing visit. The house was just what we wanted - quiet and comfortable, on a beautiful property. We were close enough to explore Brevard and also found great hiking nearby. Loved the convenience of the gas fireplace. Our dogs also had a great time.

We liked our stay at the Bears Rest home during our visit to Brevard to attend the Mountain Song Festival. The home is so quiet and the views are excellent.
The only concern was that it rained during our stay which made it difficult to drive up the hill with our 2 wheel drive rental car. We ended up switching to a 4 wheel drive which we highly recommend.

I stayed at Bear's Rest for a girls' weekend. The house itself is wonderful; the views are incredible and it was well furnished. We really enjoyed the patio and how the house felt secluded and quiet while still being a quick drive to downtown Brevard. Just be aware that the drive up to the house is steep and a bit nerve-racking if you're not used to winding mountain roads.
Unfortunately there were a few drawbacks. When we arrived, which was late at night and very dark outside, the front door to the house was wide open and a light had been left on inside. We were concerned and terrified that someone had broken in, but after searching the property we realized the door had just been left open. We later realized the door lock did not work. Someone came by in a timely manner to check out the issue, but there wasn't anything they could do aside from replacing the door lock, which couldn't happen for a few weeks. Although the house is secluded, the safety issues of not having a lock were concerning.
The house was also not very clean when we arrived; there were three active spider webs in the downstairs bathroom, multiple bugs and webs in the window in the downstairs bedroom and several on the ceiling and walls, and bugs were even found under pillows on the bed. I'm guessing some of this was a result of the door being left open for so long.
Overall the location is great and the property is nice, but the cleanliness and safety concerns put a damper on our experience. It was frustrating having to pay a cleaning fee for a house that wasn't clean--where we were also expected to do the laundry, do the dishes and take out the trash before 10 a.m. the day we left.

Truly amazing view. We have family close by so it was great to be close. We also worked while there and internet was great. Agree with getting there during the day for first trip up but once you know your way it was easy! Great spot for our girls (2older GSP) owners have upgraded couches which are very comfortable! We brought dog beds - as always - to make sure the pets stayed off of furniture! Highly recommend and would love to go back!

Tip top mountain top
This property is now my favorite place to stay in Brevard. There is a primary bedroom with a king bed on the bottom floor and on the second floor there is a king and a double in one room. Ceiling fans in all rooms. So nice to have the windows open in July! Amazing view and lovely grounds. Yes, the way up is steep, but my non 4 wheel drive suv made it fine in July.

Up in the sky for sure.
This place is wonderful. We enjoyed the secluded location and the feeling of being king of the hill. The road up was not bad as long as you took your time. Well outfitted home. Big yard and big decks with awesome views. If you’re lucky the donkey down the hill will call up to you.

Amazing View!!
What an amazing view from the covered deck at Bears Rest. The house was very comfortable and our pups enjoyed the backyard. The decor could use an update and the gravel road leading up to the home was hard. Especially at night.

WOW!!! Just incredible!!!
We absolutely LOVED this house, it's location, and the most incredible views!! Amazing long-range views from the huge front porch, beautiful sunset views thru the budding trees from the side porch, and a mossy, soft mountaintop garden area that was so wonderfully serene and peaceful to explore!! We so enjoyed it that we stayed "home" much more than we planned, and just soaked in the serenity of the mountaintop, instead of hiking and hanging out with people in Brevard! This property is most definitely going on our WILL RETURN list!!
