About this house rental
This welcoming small 2 story house is circa 1853 and is where the coal miners lived. We have created a very comfortable, private, cozy and safe environment for our guests. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm for a great vacation. Relax on the deck with a drink and your loved ones and look out over town through the beautiful scenery. Last summer we added a beautiful new patio with a gas Fire Pit on the side of the house! Also overlooking downtown, take your drinks outside and enjoy.
Due to COVID I am no longer serving a continental breakfast!
The Van Pelt House is right in the heart of town but secluded and private. Steps away from shops, biking, hiking, rafting, restaurants and entertainment. This is the perfect place for a romantic weekend or a family vacation.
Walk into the house and you are in the living room with a Flat-screen Smart TV, Electric Fireplace, WiFi, Air-conditioner and a leather Queen Sleeper Sofa with a plush mattress. Continue on and you have a Fully Functional Kitchen that we are upgrading. Attached Deck right out the kitchen door.
We have added a lovely patio on the side of the house with a fire pit. A wonderful space to sit with a glass of wine and take in the view!
If you choose to go out to eat, restaurants are all walking distance from the house. No need to drive anywhere. Upstairs is the Master Bedroom with very comfortable Queen Mattress ,Ceiling fan and Air-conditioning, a Sitting Room with a new Futon and a Full Bath with Claw Foot Tub.

Location was perfect - walking distance to restaurants and shops, but on a quiet street. House was clean but furniture, especially couch, a bit tired. That said, great home base for exploring the lovely town of Jim Thorpe!

We have been to Jim Thorpe quite a few times but this was the first time that we stayed in town and very glad we did. The house was clean and everything we needed was there. We also liked the fire pit area. We sat there in the morning and in the evening. It was private, quiet and very peaceful. We didn’t get a chance to light the fire pit. As in the past, all the places that we that we went to were great. We love these little bars and restaurants, and we could walk everywhere from the house. Walking up High Street from Race Street was pretty for me tough, the stairs to Broadway were closed when while we were there. I heard that they’ve been re-opened. Whenever we return we would like to stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay in Jim Thorpe, it was however very hot. The heat did impact our trip, as walking UP the hills in 95 degree weather isn’t fun. We enjoyed the local restaurants and saw a great show at the Opera house.
The only negative is the bedroom AC unit, the compressor kicks on and off all night long making for a disrupted sleep. It did cool off the room but as light sleepers it was tough. I would rate our stay a 4 out of 5, due to the AC unit.

We had an awesome stay in Jim Thorpe. My work schedule prevented us from being there for our full duration and Helen was incredibly accommodating and communicative, even allowing us to extend on our final day. Great location, super cozy abode and friendly neighbors. Everything was as listed. Will definitely be back!

Had a great time in Jim Thorpe. First time here. Lots of shops and entertainment. Even had a few late night spots open for food and drinks. Everything we ate was good. Our stay was clean and accommodating. Helen had great communication all throughout the stay. The location was walking distance to town which made it enjoyable. I would definitely recommend and i would return.

Prepare to feel welcomed into this lovely property - an historic property, reminiscent of a family home of long ago. Location is perfect for both being in the center of town while being able to pull away for quiet moments together. Every detail was attended to - clean towels, sheets, dishes, spices, even coffee and the fixings. In addition, there is a great deck out back for enjoying a quiet coffee in the morning. Evenings will find you relaxing with a glass of wine at the side of the house around the fire pit. We enjoyed every bit of it - and appreciate all the attention to welcoming details that the hosts provided. Will definitely be returning again and recommending to others! Thanks you! The town of Jim Thorpe is always a treat - and your home was the icing on the cake!

The Van Pelt House is a #10. The home is beautiful, clean, charming and historical. We loved staying there and will definitely be back. The home sits above the Mauch Chunck Opera House with stunning views of Jim Thorpe. It is easily accessible to the downtown with so many restaurants, shops and activities in town. You cant go wrong with making Jim Thorpe a must do weekend getaway destination.

Very clean, great location overlooking town and great fire pit and patio!

This property definitely gives you a historical feel! We were loving how close the house was to downtown Jim Thorpe but how it was out of the way of the hustle and bustle. We walked the whole down each day and didn’t have to worry about driving anywhere. Although it was small inside the house, there were two outside areas that we also enjoyed. This house was a great find!

A step stool would have been nice for use of the microwave. I am very short and could not reach it without getting on a chair, which were also a bit tall. Cream for coffee in the morning would have also been nice. We had a nice time and enjoyed our stay otherwise.

This home is right in the heart of Jim Thorpe very close to everything restaurants attractions. It is a well maintained home that was built in the 1800s very cool.

I can't imagine a nicer place to stay in Jim Thorpe than the Van Pelt House. It was in a great location, walking distance to most things. The house was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. We especially loved the outdoor space. We sat outside every evening. The deck overlooking the town and the trees made you feel you were alone in a treehouse. The new firepit area was private and beautiful at night. We loved the party lights around the outside areas. Communication with the owner was very easy and she even had treats waiting for us when we checked in. We were also very happy to be able to take our dog with us.
We couldn't help but wonder about the coal miners and others that have lived and stayed in that house over its approximately 170 year history. If we are ever back to Jim Thorpe, we would love to stay at Van Pelt House again. This house is perfect for romantic getaways or small families.

Was beautiful little house in Jim Thope out of the congested area. Just what we needed.

Convenient location to downtown however property rental is overpriced for the outdated decor . The fireplace inside and outside does not work and most windows in the house will
Not open - property floors are dangerously uneven and I would not recommend it to anyone else - sorry

We had a great weekend. The fire pit was fun. Jim Thorpe is a fun town. The property was clean and comfortable.

Great property - Helen is a great host. We parked in the designated spot and never needed to move the car all weekend. If you are physically able the walk in either direction to downtown Jim Thorpe is quick - one direction is steeper than the other. So quiet. Great deck with gas fire pit accessible from front and back of property. Another deck has table off the kitchen. Lovely welcoming fresh flowers, wine, snacks, etc. from host. Nice touch. High quality linens in bedroom and bath.

We loved our 2 night stay at this clean, cozy, dog friendly house. We never moved the car after we arrived except to pick up a pizza one night. So close to everything. House is exactly as pictured, small but perfect for a couple (second bedroom great for kids). Everything worked for us and we had no issues. Highly recommend Jim Thorpe and this property.

This was our 2nd stay at Helen's property. We LOVE the location in close walking distance to down-town Jim Thorpe, and the house is just so cozy.

The property was perfect. A short walk to everything. It is up the small hill behind the town but definitely walkable. The host was very attentive. Nice outdoor sitting area with fireplace. Would stay here again!!

Cute and cozy home. Love the neighborhood, quite yet in the middle of everything. House is exactly what you would expect from an old row home. Nice back porch and side porch. Neighbors were great. Eat at Moya and Stone Row Pub and Eatery, both are great after hiking and biking. The hill to the left when you exit the house will give you a workout, but we used it to our advantage and tackled it more than 10 times. If you go to the right instead it is an easier but longer walk. Both are great! Amazing weekend. Thanks for having us.

Great location- right off the Main Street. You do have to be somewhat mobile because, really, either way down to the shops is a bit of a hill- just more so the one way. Also I would suggest to not go on Tues and Weds if you are going for a short stay- all but 3 bar/restaurants are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays! Not kidding-practically nothing is open on Tuesday and Wednesday! Still we had a great time biking and walking around.

Nice historic house with 2 decks that were really nice in mornings and evenings. Very convenient to Jim Thorpe town and lots to do in surrounding area.

Great stay!
Property was very clean and just as described. Bed was super comfy. Very charming little house with a lovely little deck surrounded by trees just off the kitchen. Another lower deck area with a fire pit is also inviting, but we did not use it. Easy walk to town (you can opt to skip the very steep hill and head in the other direction to take a little bit of a longer, but nice, walk to get to town). Property included everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Communication with owner was speedy and excellent.
