The staff was exceptional - so friendly, helpful, and informative. Incredible history with this place! The room was well designed and so comfortable - the bath was particularly spacious and well appointed.
Perhaps it was because it was late but finding the drive to the entrance. Somewhat confusing.

It was a lovely room. I loved the way the building has been restored. Excellent breakfast.
There really wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

The building is an architectural masterpiece and is solid as a rock.

Its unique history, location, architecture, and property. The girl who helped me check in at the front desk was lovely. Great place to bring your dog as well! It felt very safe as a solo female traveler.
Window view from the basement room is not so charming.

Great staff and location

A wonderful renovation of a historical location. The entire staff were pleasant and engaging. The room was large and one of the best examples of making modern renovations but maintaining a historical feel. The location was easy to find with adequate parking. There is a nice bistro on location to make a very nice breakfast.

I was delighted to stay in a renovated building where my ancestors resided back in the first half of the 19th century. The renovation is outstanding. The grounds are spectacular. The ceilings are high. The furnishings and accommodations reminded me of the recently built Fairfield Inn and Suites properties where I have stayed earlier this year. The booking.com price was closer to $100 than the $140-$150 price available on the hotel's web site. It is so large that I didn't run into very many other guests, but there was a bridge game up in the lobby area. Parking is well-lighted and the property security looks superb. (I am not sure whether they ever have had a break-in. With the fence, large grounds, lighting, etc., I suspect not.)
Nothing worth mentioning.

This beautifully reimagined campus (formerly a hospital and, later, a corrections facility), now boasts an Inn, spa, conference center and apartment buildings. The unique setting alone is worth a visit, but the comfy rooms, excellent food and hospitable staff will keep us coming back.

Historic building with lovely grounds. Formerly a hospital then a prison it has been very tastefully renovated. The grandeur of the common areas remain but the bedrooms are fully modernised with excellent showers, coffee making facilities and comfortable beds.
No dinner service or bar on the days that we stayed. However lots of good restaurants downtown which are within walking distance.

historic ambiance , spacious bathroom and shower, proximity to the town center
Space around the bed was a bit narrow

Room was perfect as well.
Everything was good.

Location was great, a 10-minute walk to historic downtown. Very nice, modern bathroom with glassed-in rain shower. Friendly, helpful staff.
Liked everything.

superb ambience. view from cupola atop circular staircase.
soap missing from room. room size okay, but could have fit one more chair (for couples)

My second stay and best choice in the area for cleanliness.

Breakfast was a cafe. THANK goodness it wasn't that common non optional preprepared fare at other hotels. The building was built over 200 years ago, with a strong infuence of Jefferson with multiple high arches in the hallways, winding stairwells (elevators available). Beautiful effort in remaking an old hospital into something remarkable. The rooms are extremely quiet due to the thick wall construction. It is extremely unique, clean and friendly. Don't miss this.

Really nice renovation of a historic property. Bright, airy room, walk in shower. Super friendly staff.

The hotel has a tremendous amount of character. We enjoyed exploring the building and the grounds. We spoke to several couples who were making repeat visit as we were arriving, so that set the visit off on the right foot.
Understanding that there's the integration of more modern appointments into a historic building, the gaps in the door from the room to the hallway seemed a little large. Not terribly unsettling, but slightly unsettling.
Sounds travel. In consideration of my neighbors on our floor and below, I couldn't help but feel compelled to walk quietly and whisper in the morning as getting ready to depart.
I'll also add that if you're expecting a romantic trip, and will be on the ground floor, there are two shades. You may want to ensure that you've lowered the second shade before engaging in intimate relations.

Comfortable beds, nice staff, cool location.
Can understand how the rooms in the basement might be creepy.

No easily identified handicap access - it is a long walk with suitcases up several steep stairs to the entrance.

The breakfast was better than the usual hotel breakfast fare
A garbage can near a door to dispose of the dog poop. They are pet friendly after all

A beautiful, majestic, one-of-a-kind hotel with a fascinating history. We booked last minute before rolling into town and initially thought we must’ve pulled into the wrong place. We were planning to stay in Staunton for a night only but ended up extending our stay. The property is an attraction in itself, and you can easily spend a couple of hours exploring it (which we did). The rooms are beautifully fitted, comfortable, and full of character. The staff were all lovely and helpful without exception. We hope to be back one day.
The bathroom is somewhat ‘open’ (the wall doesn’t extend to the ceiling), which took a little getting used to - but we quickly accepted this as part of the charm of staying in such a lovely, old historical building.

very clean
the floors are loud when walking on them and having to walk so far up to the building to check in , and the pillows to soft also the charge of 75$ for hold on your card due to how your room is left

Loved the clean room and amazing tub.
I have an ankle injury and navigating the stairs was hard to check in. It was not well marked that I could have entered the ground floor through a different location without a key.

Central location, modern amenities, free parking, historic charm

Loved the historical buildings and Christmas decorations were beautiful!
I didn’t like the glass doors in the shower
