Location was convenient. Local grocery and restaurants were very close.
It was REALLY hard to get into the unit. The person spoke no english when we contacted for access. Luckily bothering townspeople I got someone to help with communication BARELY. We couldn't get the sauna to work at all. Which was why I booked this unit. Instructions need to be better. The hot tub worked - but instructions need to be better. Couldn't figure how to start jets on seat by window

The Spa was fantastic and it was off the beaten path. Not as busy with people.
It was more on myself for not knowing how to work the coffee maker.

The facilities
The high temperature at the bedrooms of the second floor. The host provided a portable air conditioner which was very noisy and that made our sleeping very challenging whole night long..

Beautiful setting, great 'base camp" for exploring Chianti. The private spa in the apartment was exceptional, with a really nice sauna and a hot tub/spa. Kitchen well supplied with cooking stuff, nice TV in bedroom with large TV we hooked up to Netflix through our computer with an HDMI cable.
Hard to say.................would have been great to have a patio or deck, but the spa was wonderful.

Everything was absolutely amazing!!! It was clean and so comfortable! The breakfast was great and the best part- the private spa was just perfect!! We had a perfect stay and I would definitely come back!!!

We liked pretty much everything! This is a place where you can relax, breathe fresh air, enjoy the quiet and have a well-deserved time-out from stress and trouble at home. That was exactly what we needed.
The Villa itself was very cosy (with a fireplace), seemed to be brand new (incl. all equipment) and was very clean. The village is small and picturesque. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating and helped us book restaurants, mountain bike tours etc
There was a complimentary bottle of prosecco, wine, orange juice, water and limoncello - in addition to good lavazza coffee capsules, tea and some things for breakfast. In addition there is a selection of different (chargeable) wine bottles in the kitchen.
You can relax without disturbances since there is no phone reception in the house (and in large parts of Chianti).
Opposite the Villa you will find a small supermarket run by a supernice old lady and a cafe. Within 2 minutes walk you get to an excellent restaurant (Malborghetto). So you don't have to move much after a long day of sightseeing (i.e. Siena).
- Major:
Before we could enjoy the full glory of this accommodation we had some trouble with price transparency.
The pricing of Sofia Villa & Spa is intransparent on the iphone app of booking.com (different from the website).
The costs per night were advertised as EUR 122 (even marked as special offer in October). We only realized that hidden costs of EUR 84 per night (EUR 40 daily spa tax aka fee for the usage of private spa, EUR 35 daily cleaning of whirlpool, EUR 3 city tax per night) were added after we made the non-cancelable booking and got the confirmation mail. The jack-up of the price per night was not stated in the booking.com entry of the iphone app beforehand when you select the entry and read through all information - only in one of the last confirmation steps when you decide to book confirm the booking. This was super intransparent and made me really angry - especially because both booking.com and the owner refused to cancel the booking without refund.
To be fair - after we complained the owner at least got us a free dinner at a nearby restaurant and didn't charge EUR 9 city tax. And once we arrived we also realized that the price is justified for what you get (a whole house with kitchen, fireplace and spa for your exclusive usage).
The extra costs (70%) should be part of an overall price per night in the booking.com entry (EUR 206). Extra costs like the negligible city tax can still remain separate.
- Minor:
There was no breakfast buffet as advertised on booking.com. The kitchen was equipped with some stuff for breakfast (e.g. cereal, crackers, madeleines, baked products, juice, lavazza coffee capsules...). It would have been nice if there had been some fresh products (like bread/croissants from a bakery, fruits/vegetables, ham, cheese) instead of industry produced and packaged items. But that could be bought in the small supermarket across the street (or you could simply go somewhere and have breakfast as we did).
