Location is excellent. Building is unique as usual with a Parador. Warmly welcomed upon arrival
Dinner at the restaurant was disappointing. Food was not great and staff were clearing away as we were still eating

I have been here before in 2019 as a pilgrim on the Camino and I loved it. The historic building is superb.
This time I stayed as a pilgrim again during the off season. There were two staff members who treated me unkindly because of my appearance as a pilgrim. I tried to get a drink but the man in restaurant said it was only for guests. Then at breakfast he was rude again wouldn’t clear my plates ignored me the whole time and was rude. I complained to the man at front desk in his fifties he was also rude and shook his shoulders and said well what do you want me to do about it. I started to cry and asked for manager. He said there was no manager and I faked him several times for the name and email address he refused and kept shrugging his shoulders at my distress. After my instance he would not give me email address to give feedback and only gave me parador brouchure with general email address. As I cried and walked away he just smiled. As a pilgrim I have always been welcomed at paradores. I am a school principal in my country and was disgusted that these two men could treat me so badly because I did not fit the clientele of the paradore. It was a distressing stay I ended up just in my room and snuck out so he wouldn’t see me again.
Terrible experience. I have never complained in my lifetime of travel about such treatment it has left me shocked.

A beautiful building in the heart of the old city. Our room was spacious and overlooked the garden. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Parking is extremely difficult at the parador. The staff were great at suggesting alternatives but these come with an extra cost. The old city is beautiful but the streets are cobbled and extremely steep. Our visit coincided with the filming of House of the dragon, which restricted our access to some of the sights.

Beautifully restored old buildings in the historic centre of Caceres. Exceptionally nice staff.
Parking is understandably difficult in this ancient city centre with its very narrow streets.

Excellent in most respects.
Dinner is too late on Fridays and Saturdays with a start time of 21:00.

The parador is set in an ancient stone palace fairly recently converted. The rooms have high ceilings but are a little gloomy and although we were very lucky to have a room overlooking the patio garden many others did not. The common parts of the hotel are quite dark ... characterful but cavernous. Breakfast was quite good but the staff were not very informative or helpful about what was available. Overall it seemed overpriced compared with the other hotels and pousadas in Portugal that we stayed at.
Room furniture getting a little tired and chipped.

Central location, restaurant, breakfast. The reception service was OK, not brilliant though. Parking is rough given the location but thats expected. Upper floor room have kind of a view.
For such an expensive stay I would have expected the furniture to be in better condition + there was (a small) hole in the bedding. Staff was not extremely attentive.

We were expecting something amazing as this was an expensive booking for us. We were disappointed that a fabulous building had been made into a place without the wow factor it should have had. We had no view from our room, and the communal spaces in the hotel were functional but not in keeping with the beautiful building. Staff were friendly and helpful but the actual building and the whole experience was rather disappointing.
Refurbishment of the hotel was disappointing. With no view our room could have been in any hotel - it had no character.

Buffet breakfast was very good with a wide variety of choice. We really enjoyed dining outside in the tranquil garden in the evening. The food was delicious. Our bed was large and very comfortable and we had a large bath/shower room.
The room and some elements in the bathroom were disappointing. Our bath/shower was shabby, with lots of scratch marks and a blob of silicon seal in the bottom of the bath. Our two sinks wouldn't hold the water. The novel split sink design looked good but didn't work for us, even when we slid both halves of the sinks together. The room was dull and fairly ordinary considering the high price.

The Parador is a converted 14th century palace in the middle of the historic medieval town. The perfect location to see and experience this city. From our hotel window, we could see one of the narrow streets and the rooftops of this historic centre. The building itself had a beautiful staircase and centre patio. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and greeted us immediately as we entered.
We asked for half room and board so dinner and breakfast were included. I have eaten at Paradors in the past. The last time was about 20 something years ago and I remember the food being incredible. Things have changed. The food at dinner was good but not incredible. I ordered a typical cod dish from the region and even though the portion was big and the fish was fresh, it was lacking in flavour. My daughter ordered another typical dish and it was the same. Not up to the old standards. In the past when you ordered gazpacho they would put tiny bowls filed with ham, cucumber and so on. Now it was literally 4 very tiny cubes of cucumber and the same with the tomato and uncooked croutons. On the other hand, the breakfast buffet was superb. You have to ask for a pot of fresh coffee if you don't want to have the automated tabs that are so common nowadays. I would also go early because the churros were sold out by the time we went to breakfast.

The rooms were very good, large and comfortable, airy and modern with historic charm.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
One of our rooms had a modern tv stand almost in the middle of the room. While this was a great location to watch tv from bed, the setting felt out of place and in the way, taking away from the overall historic room atmosphere.
Some areas of the Parador (connecting alleys, back rooms) looked a bit neglected and did not keep to the overall style of the building and what one would expect from such a hotel.
Both issues above could be addressed by paying some more attention to the details of the decoration.

Wide choice of foods available, very well presented.
To be told what hot dishes were available. Only k ew you could get omelettes etc because we saw other guests having them.

Location is very good with respect to the historical citadel.
The staff are amazingly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
The rooms are clean, new and air conditioned.
The little bar/restaurant next door is a delight.
It is a shame this Parador does not have a swimming pool - a necessity in summers when temperature is above 40ºC.
The hotel needs to be flexible about is bar in the outdoor space - currently it is not and the alternative is the humid and hot covered inner courtyard.
