The location is stunning and there was loads to do. Me and my mom don't dive but we snorkelled and kayaked, hiked and just chilled out on the beach. It's so quiet and makes you feel like you had your own private beach. In saying that, the common area was great and so nice to speak to loads of people. The staff were so kind and 100% on it. The food was amazing!!
No air con but it wasn't as bad as we thought!

Loved the location, very isolated which was exactly what we wanted so we could relax. Weather wasn’t the best so no water sports could be done. Loved our view from our room,. Your stay here in Clyde’s all your meals so if you want snack you will to bring with you. Breakfast and dinner were tasty however lunch was either rice or noodles. Tea and coffee available all day. They also have beer, Soft drinks and gin and tonics plus filtered water. Loved our stay here. Getting to the resort( resort isn’t quite what I would call it) can be very exciting and wet in choppy seas but it all added to the adventure of the place. You also get to meet some lovely people. Loved it
I was very disappointed with the amount of rubbish on the beach although they make a sad attempt to clean a small section of the beach in front of the resort the rest is littered with rubbish and left over building material and general waste. So sad as this could be so much more if they made the effort to keep their beach clean and tidy. You only have to walk 5 minutes along the beach to see it. A little more pride in your country and your environment would see you all reaping the rewards. Ran out of beer OMG. Chef was a bit grumpy, but the boat boys and ladies were so lovely.

Bigfin is fantastic. If you are looking for a laid-back, comfortable (but not luxurious) place then is it. If you are diving, great but there is also swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and lying in a hammock. The staff are friendly and the banana pancakes are sensational

Everything, it was a great place to stay and we were lucky enough to snorkel with a whale shark 🦈 - wish we had a little longer - although my teenager was withdrawing from internet by the time we left!

Fabulous & friendly place in the most wonderful location in a sheltered bay. All the team were so helpful and friendly, and chef Ahwi (spelling?) dished up plentiful and lovely food. Also a mean G & T if you catch him before supper! Simple breakfasts but tea/coffee/water always available. We went snorkelling, kayaking and swam out to the raft - all great fun. The diving is clearly very good here too. We really admire their efforts at conservation - something the larger hotels should adopt as a policy.
More fruit at meals would be welcome - and a few beach chairs or mats, although there are hammocks. Otherwise all fab!

we spent hours at the beach, it was a great time.

We had some marvellous days here with our kids. Very cosy cabins with panorama. Even without going scuba diving some cool things to do (kayaking, snorkel tour, jungle walk, ...)

The scenic view, the friendly staff, the meals though simple are delicious
No hair dryer, no heater , cold bath, no mosquito netting

Banana pancakes-amazing!!! This is a really homely place, the food reflects that. The atmosphere too reflects that. Beautiful surroundings. Experienced divers to lead you on some exciting dives. Quiet and remote. Perfect place to reset.
The only reason this didn’t get a 10 is because of the bed. It was very hard and not too comfortable.

The cook is awesome.
It's suitable for recreational diver's life.
Not suitable for unhealthy and disability people.

Rooms were great with a good fan and two comfortable hammocks. Food was good and plenty.
The beach could use some cleanup. Theres lots of trash washed to shore in front of hotel. 15 minutes of cleanup each day would improove the situation a lot. Also, a trash can at the beach would be great, so visitors can take part in beach cleanup. You could even make a little event for colaborative beach cleanup twice a week or so.

We liked the place so much that we decided to stay one more night on the spot. The staff is really helpful.
You may want to know that you shouldn’t carry big luggage and that you need to leave your car at a parking lot where they will pick you up with a small boat to take you to Bigfin resort. you will be isolated there.
The rooms are very confy. no A/C and no hot water in the shower, although it wasn’t necesary at all. No wifi /conection at the room, but on the common areas.
The views of Mt Kinabalu in the morning are insane! The food has been the best we’ve had in Malaysia (after 15days travelling). They have SUP boards, kayaks, and other activities. Great music.

Nice and quiet location, you get there be boat, might be difficult to reach there when there's bad weather, good food offered, nice view
The reef is a dissapointment

Great location with a beautiful beach, the diving is good. Food very tasty. Easy to organise transport from the airport in KK. Rooms basic but comfortable
Couldn’t get a gin and tonic for love nor money despite asking repeatedly. Have to ask after dinner is cooked but then everyone disappears

Beautiful location, great rooms with hammocks overlooking the bay, relaxed vibe in the restaurant area, drinks reasonably priced, nice people working there, especially the general manager Awie
Breakfast choices good but lunch/dinner a bit limited, more fruit/veg would be fantastic. Bags got soaked on boat ride back, putting them in a crate or covering them would be great.

After an eventful start to our holiday adventure (my bag was lost by the airline), Bigfin was a perfect paradise! The place is basic but clean, well run and super-friendly staff. The food is a set meal at set times, but good food, freshly made by the resident chef. It’s an honesty bar - beer, sort drinks and a killer G&T prepared by the chef! Run by a husband and wife team, this was a great start to our holiday. The diving is good - professional staff, friendly and very experienced. Thanks to Tony and Maman and the rest of the team for some superb dives. One thing, you are remote at Bigfin, so don’t expect busy nightlife and bars...you reach the hotel via a 10 min boat ride and once you’re there, you’re there! Enjoy - we did!
Hi guess our one complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer!

All the food was home cooked and amazingly tasty. I’m vegetarian and there was always an option and plenty for me to eat! The resort is set back into the forest overlooking the sea and such a perfect location, each chalet has hammocks which were well received after a days diving!
We did our advanced open water diving course which was really well organised. All the diving staff were brilliant, friendly and fun but made sure we were safe each dive. Toni was a brilliant instructor and made our course fun and informative and found me some sharks!
Big fin is very environmentally friendly, no plastic bottles sold, cans and paper recycled, run on solar power, the divers picked up rubbish from the sea and no air con which is brilliant and really refreshing in Malaysia where other places have issues with rubbish on the beaches.
Big fin is paradise or as close as you’re going to get if you like off grid, slightly rustic accommodation with friendly people and great food! Awie also does a great gin and tonic if you ask nicely!
No whale sharks (it wasn’t whale shark season!) and Rocky the dog doesn’t like cuddles! ☹️

AC would be nice to have, but not an issue.

A beautiful getaway. The rooms a lovely and modern, clean and have everything you need. The food was excellent, always enough and varied.
The activities available are wonderful such asayaking to the nearest island.
I did the discovery dive with Mayman. He was such a good instructor, really helped me and made the whole experience even better. Huge thanks to him.
Give yourself at least 2 nights here.. I wanted to stay more.

Bigfin Beach Resort was the unexpected jewel of our Borneo trip!
After a very adventures week we wanted to lay back a bit and found the Bigfin resort for a pretty affordable price and decided to give it a try.
The transport can be arranged with them easily and we were picked up from Kota Kinabalu Airport to start our 1.5hrs drive to Kota Belud where a boat picked us up and went to the private Bigfin beach with us. The transport went smooth and we enjoyed the boat tour.
The resort itself is super remote and was a perfect fit! Frist we were sceptical about not having an air con, but with the ocean breeze and the fan in the room the heat wasn't a problem at night. During the day you can not really use the room at all because of the heat, you will be melting like butter.
The food, especially the breakfast (banana pancakes) is outstanding good - you HAVE TO try out the pancakes, those were without lying the best we had in our lives! The staff is very friendly and like a big family, we quickly felt like home there.
It's also a diving paradise if you are into that! We rented a Kajak and went to the small island near by and enjoyed the full day there, which was one of the nicest experiences of my life. The sundown on the Kajak was just insane, those colors reminded me a lot of the Maldives.
I would recommend Bigfin to everyone! Usually we are looking for a quite luxury stay, but the experience there was just perfect!
Nothing at all!

Looove the staff, the location, the view!
One little minus is that it is no aircon.

Beautiful waters for snorkelling.
Friendly staff.
Awie the cook / caretaker was very hospitable.
Food was good.
A view of Mt Kinabalu from the villa.
Because this place is running on eco sustainability resources, electricity only runs from 530PM-1130PM. Those who are not used to this might find it difficult to adapt.

Resort is idyllic! The rooms were clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The common area for relaxing and eating was great, all meals were tasty in a buffet style. There was also a small selection of drinks and snacks you could purchase if you forgot to bring any.
The staff were all really friendly and happy to help with anything you needed.
We did a discovery dive too and it was so fun and good value for money! Can also rent kayaks and paddle boards too.
Can’t fault Bigfin!
