The property is located just 4 miles away from the famous Roche Harbor Resort that offers a corner grocery store, a coffee stand, 3 delicious restaurants (seasonally open), shopping, swimming pool, and a marina with slips, fuel and the famous retirement of the colors. (The daily flag ceremony at sunset, not to be missed!)

The house was well stocked with a wonderful view right on the water's edge. We're glad we had the privilege to stay even if we thought the cleaning fees were excessive ($300+$100). House was well stocked with kitchenware and was both clean and comfortable.

The home was perfect! Loved the area and the accommodations. wish the house had more bedrooms so that we could have our whole family stay, but it was great!

There was black mold growing in the master bedroom at the double doors, we couldn’t sleep in the master, we had to sleep in the second bedroom, there was also a massive fly problem. I must have killed 40-50 flies! It was so gross. I had to resanitize the kitchen. This was my 25 year anniversary, and I was so disappointed.

Three families from Seattle, Philadelphia and Grenoble stayed 4 nights to attend a wedding at Saltwater Farm. Great weather all week. Great setting on Mitchell Bay. We used the dock access to do some paddle boarding. We bought supplies at Kings Market and the seafood market on the dock to cook dinner at Bakkers Acres for two of those nights. Excellent kitchen facilities. Ate lunch at the New Ernies at the airport and Cynthias (twice) and Market Chef and Hermosa Tacos. The only problem was that we paid for sleeping 9 but really there were only beds for 8.

Complaints first - for $2000/night, it would have been nice to have mattresses that are not at their end of life, a working coffee pot (not a Keurig) and the aging deck boards nailed down so guests don't trip on them. Positives - plenty of seating for guests, a nice open kitchen and a beautiful location.

First the good, we loved the location and our overall stay. We loved the property and was perfect for our family gathering. The game room was great for the kids to entertain themselves and hang out. It was so peaceful and enjoyable. The upstairs was nicely renovated and made it comfortable to hang out. Now the bummer parts. The downstairs has not been renovated and had a musty smell when we arrived. The lack of renovation downstairs was not that bad on its own, but the entire house does not have ANY window screens so when we opened the windows to air everything out, the bugs came in. The area (San Juans, in general) have great cool evenings gentle breezes throughout the day that are enjoyable to have the fresh air, but not without screens. Even upstairs, with the renovation, had no screens so letting the breeze come through also brought the mosquitos. You need to get screens. The property is situated in such a great cove with a dock that kayaks, SUPs, canoes, or boats would be so wonderful. The water was so peaceful and calm that any sort of water toys would have been so great. Without it, the house lacked overall.

Beautiful property. only issue we had was that the barbecue did not work.

The location and amenities were truly wonderful. Waterfront views and game room were some of the highlights. Central location is close to Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor and pretty much everything you'd want to visit. Besides thermostats/heaters in the two upstairs rooms (which worked fine) the rest of the upstairs was hard to heat. The second bedroom upstairs (not the master) had access to a bathroom that also opened up to the living room via a pocket door - not very private. Lastly, the entire downstairs area seemed pretty useless since we intended on splitting up the two couples in our party. The downstairs needs a refresh. That said, the natural beauty of the location surroundings was spellbinding.

We chose this house because we were traveling with another family during COVID, didn't want to share indoor living space, and we liked the description that the house had two separate living units on the top floor and bottom floor, each with their own "full kitchen". The top unit was lovely, but the bottom unit should not have been described to have a full kitchen. The oven was broken, there were no cups/glasses, not a single pot/pan, no cooking utensils, only 1 plate and 1 saucer. Tried to reach the property manager but the cell signal was poor and we kept getting disconnected. I reached out by email and was told that they had not received this complaint before because very few families use the downstairs kitchen. This was frustrating since the property description actually says the lower unit "boasts a full kitchen". We ended up having to borrow the kitchen of the top unit while we were there, but if we knew we'd have to share the indoor space, we could have looked at other houses that were less expensive with better rooms all around. With that said, this is a lovely place if you aren't planning to use the bottom unit. The water front location is gorgeous, the expansive green yard and the free standing game room made it really fun for the kids. Three stars because of inaccurate advertising.

Beautiful location, but a few hiccups with our stay. Dishwasher shelf was broken, so would drop when trying to load. Downstairs pull out bed had water leaking from the ceiling on the guest while sleeping, so unable to use the bed. Looks like there was water stain on the ceiling, so looks like it wasn't the first leak. Kureg coffee maker not working.
Other than those three issues, it was wonderful being on the water and enjoying our time together. Thank you.

We enjoyed a relaxing and fun weekend with our teenage daughter and a couple of friends. My husband and I brought our paddle boards and we were able to enjoy the water and relax after by watching Netflix on the cozy couches. The girls had a great time playing pool and ping pong in the adjacent house. The house was roomy, clean, and comfortable. It was a little chilly the first night, but after a phone call, the owner dropped off portable heaters and we were quite warm after that. The dishwasher and stove/range are on the old side, and a bit temperamental, but otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our family had a wonderful time staying in this home. The location on Mitchell Bay is breathtaking and peaceful, quiet. It is located between Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor which makes driving to either town easy.
The home itself is spacious with lots of rooms and living areas. The view off the deck is gorgeous. The beds were in good condition and very comfortable. The bathrooms are nice and the showers all work well. We care about that kind of stuff. The game room was especially fun as we love ping-pong and playing pool. I recommend bringing your own ping-pong balls as there were none there.
The home is in need of some repair. We provide that feedback to the property manager. The deck has many raised boards and exposed nail heads. You cannot walk on the deck barefoot. The kitchen needed some cabinet work with the a few faces falling off of the drawers. Also many of the pans were in need of replacement as the Teflon was peeling off into the food so we could not use them. Many of the blinds on the windows don’t work properly. Also no screens in the windows or doors so while the breeze flowing through is wonderful, the bugs were not. We opted to deal with the mosquitos/flies because we loved the breeze.
The water in the bay does go out with the tide and it leaves a large exposed area of mud. We didn’t mind because we enjoyed clamming when tide was out but I highly recommend you bring good water shoes because you can’t see what you are stepping through in the mud and there are sharp shells and glass. The tide comes in late in the afternoon so it makes that time of day the most enjoyable. The dock is in good working order. Any boat your bring (and you do need to bring your own, there is not one there), will be sitting in the mud by the morning. If you don’t mind pushing your boat out to the water 50 yards out you can use your boat during the day otherwise you have to wait till the tide comes back in in the afternoon. If you want to crab, bring your own crab pots and bait. We had to go outside the bay to find good crabbing locations as we did not have any luck in the bay itself.
The only other thing I would mention is that the property owner lives on the property in a home adjacent to the rental. We didn’t see her very often and when we did she was lovely to talk with. And while we are a very boring low-key family, and she never approached us, I felt conscious of her presence while there.

House was beautiful, clean, and well stocked, we would definitely go back again. The owner solved the small issues we encountered instantly and the management company was great to deal with overall. It is well located and you have easy access to the north side island stores as well as Friday Harbor with a 10 - 15 minute drive.

Week in Bakkers Acres
We had a fun week at the house on the bay. The house was very comfortable and quiet and has great views. I think the property listing should make clear that photos were taken at high tide and that low tide every morning is very muddy. Also, although the listing states that the owners do not provide kayaks or other watercraft, what we did not know until we arrived and I made some calls is that none of the kayak outfits in town would rent kayaks for use at the Vrbo property due to liability concerns. This means that, unless you bring your own boat or kayaks, you will not be able to get on the water directly from the house. Also, although the property listing does state that there is no Cable TV and that the only way to watch programs is through streaming channels, I assumed that the owners' Netflix or other streaming account would be available to us. Instead, the property manager informed me that we had to use our own accounts. So, you must have your log-in information and other devices with you in order to do this. I think this should be spelled out more clearly in advance.

Reviewer Comments:
This was our third visit to San Juan Island, we have always rented oceanfront but with late planning rented this house on the bay. Most of the daytime the tide was out and the property was left with a large expanse of somewhat smelly mud. When the tide was in, it was a beautiful view. Too bad the patio furniture was old, splintery and uncomfortable. The interior of the house had nice windows to open to let the cool breeze blow through, no screens, so the flies came in, too. Lots of skylights, complete with cobwebs. The living room furniture and the beds were comfortable and sufficient. The “gourmet” kitchen was anything but gourmet. Keurig with complimentary coffee was a nice touch, and it was well supplied with dishes. The stove/oven was ancient and missing an entire bottom section. The washer was not working, but the management company gave us an alternative to use at the house next door. The two guests in the lower level complained about many spiders. Game room was nicely supplied and fun. Grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the deer roaming every evening.
