About this house rental
Welcome to Lachland! (PLEASE NOTE AT THIS TIME OUR MINIMUM RENTAL IS 30 DAYS, DUE TO LOCAL LAW) This 5 bedroom home has been a beloved family vacation home for 4 generations. Lachland is located on a private, gated road. You will experience spectacular views , and nature walks that begin the moment you step outside. The gracious 3000 square foot home easily contains and entertains a large family or friends group. Very comfortably sleeps 13 guests, with additional space for squeezing a few more in. The house began life as a barn in the late 1800's. It was then converted to a hunting lodge in the early 20th century. It has been in our family since the late 1940's, when the hunting lodge was converted once again to a family home. The original hand-hewn barn beams are still visible in much of the house. The decor has charming vintage appeal with many original details. Bedrooms include: the master bedroom suite with a king sized bed, private bathroom and dressing area, the all season 'sleeping porch' that is great for kids or families with 5 twin beds, the green room with 2 twin beds, the blue room with 2 full beds, and the sunrise room which has a king sized bed (custom built raised bed to witness the sunrise, truly awe-inspiring). Vintage 1950's kitchen is well equipped and has large modern appliances. There are several serious cooks in our family, so the kitchen is well stocked for cooking and baking. The dining room is directly adjacent to the kitchen and has seating for up to 15 at an antique banquet table. Many of our guests have commented how wonderful and rare it is to be able to sit down together at one table. A large living room makes it easy to reconnect with family and friends. A stately Steinway piano, circa 1893, adds to the fun. The living room is part of the original barn structure, and maintains a rustic elegance. Lounging on the wide open porch and soaking up the spectacular views is a required activity. You will have access to basic household items such as dish soap, paper towels, aluminum foil, etc, to make your vacation seamless. House linens are provided, no need to bring sheets towels, or extra blankets. Explore the grounds and be taken in by the sweeping lawn, rock formations and rolling fields that surround the house. Spend a lovely evening at the stone fire pit, roasting marshmallows and watching the fireflies. Make sure the kids visit our fairy house, a favorite of the Lachland children. Perhaps the best feature of the house is the vista of the surrounding mountains and the Ashokan Reservoir. The open porch and raised stone patio allow for breathtaking views, and many of the bedrooms have excellent views also. Large picture windows in the living room, dining room, and kitchen ensure that you'll have great scenery inside the house too. A unique getaway in a truly beautiful area. High speed satellite internet/Wi-Fi. Please contact us with any questions, we are more than happy to assist you.

Beautiful location and view, extremely quiet. Room enough for everyone (we had 9 adults and 3 kids). We hosted an Easter dinner for 15, the kitchen and dining room had room to spare. We had beautiful spring weather so most time was spent on the huge porch or around the fire pit.

House easily held 13 people comfortably. House layout was especially conducive to shared experiences. Huge living area, large dining room table able to seat everyone, play room for children all flowing. Sleeping rooms also exceptional. And of course the view from almost every room was spectacular. Have done this family/friend retreat over President's Day for many years. This was the best.

Tammany, the property manager, could not have been more helpful. The house was all we had hoped for: comfortable, well appointed, a cozy atmosphere with a kid friendly space, games, piano, sunny porch with gorgeous views of the valley below. Comfortable beds, a fully applianced kitchen well stocked with tableware and cookware. The dining room prefers a large picture window. Would definitely go back for another visit.

Old world charm, but with comfort . Cozy. Woodsy, lots of spirit. The dining room alone was amazing. The silence and the views were espetacular. My guests were beyond impressed. We

We were in town for the Woodstock Film Festival. The location was great for all the venues and the house very comfortable. The gate on Walton Road was a bit cumbersome and did not seem necessary

The property was exactly what we needed for our weekend away. We took a group of 8 children and five adults and everyone had an incredible time. The house was exactly as described and more - it had all of the amenities one could possibly need. Tammany was super communicative and wonderful. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a getaway.

The house was large enough for a big family gathering. The dining room table accommodated 18 for Christmas dinner. The views were amazing and I was able to watch stunning sunrises from the bedroom window. The host was very accommodating when we had to change are plans due to weather. I highly recommend this property to large groups.

We're five friends gathering for an extended weekend. Tammany is very responsive. The home is so beautiful and cozy. We enjoyed hanging out in the spacious living and dining rooms.
The dining room has a large window with an amazing view of Ashokan reservoir and beyond. Will be visiting again soon.

A group of us knitters, 6 to be exact, swarmed to the Rhinebeck area for a weekend of wooly fun. We needed a location that we could relax, knit and socialize in between activities. This house fit the bill. It was fully equipped for a much larger group. Plenty of comfy beds, bathrooms, comfy living room seats and a great fireplace. The views are incredible and watching the sunrise was an activity enjoyed and captured by all.
It is a bit dark in the living room so if you are knitting, bring your neck light.
We would stay again!

Beautiful property and home. Although the home is very large, it is a quintessential farmhouse cozy. The living room in particular is wonderful to be in during nights and rainy weather. Tammany was extremely friendly and responsive... everything you could ask for in a host. Will be visiting again soon.

Just spent a long weekend here. Very well done. Everything we could want in a rental and more. The view is fantastic. Very peaceful. We were 5 old friends, but the house could easily handle 15 people.

Wonderful house in awesome town
My family (a mix of adults and kids under 7) had a great week here. The house is huge and well-stocked. There’s a ton to do nearby - hiking, biking along the reservoir, exploring Woodstock. The 50 minute drive to Taghaunic State Park is well worth it - the kids swam in the lake and there’s a spot to put in kayaks and paddle boards. There were a couple small issues that didn’t negatively impact our experience but might be worth mentioning for others. One, the bugs surrounding the house are awful. Not just mosquitoes and biting insects, but swarms of gnats. The second you step off the porch, they’re on you. Two, although we didn’t see any mice, we noticed that they got into our food at night. We didn’t leave anything out in the open - it was all in drawers and cabinets - but mice definitely got into cookies and pop tarts. After a few days, we started leaving our snacks in the oven overnight. Three, the house didn’t have air conditioning. It wasn’t an issue at all the first few days bc it was 70 degrees and rainy but later in the week when it got up near 90 the house got a little stuffy. There are numerous fans though which does help. Overall we had a fantastic time. Tammany is extremely responsive and wonderful to work with. We definitely recommend staying here!

My wife and I went for four nights with our 8 year old daughter, 5 year old son, and new au pair from Chile (who is 18). It was simply amazing.I have never been to a VRBO (or AirBnB) that was as spotlessly clean and well-stocked as this (and we stay at way too many!). The house has an amazing vintage charm, but is very modern with all new appliances. The vintage charm is not warn - the enamel on the 1950s (?) kitchen is in perfect shape as are the pink and green tiles in the bathrooms. I share that as an example of how clean and amazing it was. It is about 12 minutes to downtown Woodstock, but a world away (jn a good way). The peacefulness is amazing. the large picture windows have you gazing at the view and forgetting about life for a long while. (We even sometimes forgot about our children who became feral running through the woods and having adventures.) The wind chime is calming. The bell on the porch perfect for drawing the kids in for lunch. The living room was our favorite. Very big and spacious. An old record collection with a new record player. A warm fire place. Radiator heat (if you never had radiator heat it is amazing - not dry at all and toasty warm). As a side note, the showers have amazing water pressure! The internet (satellite) was totally adequate - I even took a few video work calls. Though we mostly used it to figure out what good restaurants to order from and where to go hiking. Our host was just a text away and very responsive. Woodstock and all the hikes close by were great. There were only five of us, but we wish there were more and we plan on going back with friends or family as soon as possible! You cannot go wrong staying here!

We often rent vacation rentals near Woodstock area, and this one was one of the best ones we have stayed at. The photos do not do justice to the actual view from the house and the stunning location on the mountain, the views go for miles and miles over the Ashokan Reservoir! The sunrises are really something to watch out for! There are no homes close by giving this property a real private feel while at the same time the house was perfect for our needs (including a very effective heating system in mid-January), and can accommodate large family groups (has 5 bedrooms!). We loved the cozy fireplace and the well-equipped kitchen, and views from every room of the house.Tammany was great in responding to our questions promptly, thank you for letting us stay in your family home! We loved it!

Find old house
A rambling old country house, luxury a la 1960, a timepiece, beautiful view, definitely could use some renovation, but it is what it is and that’s fine enough. Tammany, house manager, is very helpful and accommodating. Would be great for large families. Large front yard for dog play and fire pit with plenty of wood a plus. Indoor gasfire nice too, keeps the main room cozy. Lots of old LPs are fun, plus stuffed dead animal heads on the walls if that’s your thing. Threadbare mid twentieth century aspiring country squire life, with awesome views and a sweet family contact person.

New Years escape from the city
My family quarantined for 2 weeks then tested in order to be able to spend NYE together . This was a relaxing and fun getaway from the crazy year we’ve had . Very easy check in and check out and only 2 hours from NYC.

Fantastic Catskills Getaway!
We had such a wonderful time, the house is beautiful and perfect for a group of friends looking to get out of the city and enjoy spectacular views! The property feels very secluded but everything is wonderfully maintained, kitchen was perfect for cooking large meals for a group, and the bedrooms were spacious and great for our setup. So close to Phonecia and Woodstock if you want to get into town, plus all the amazing nearby hiking, but also incredible to just relax at the house and beautiful grounds. Tammany was very responsive and helpful with all our questions! A wonderful time.

This place was absolutely gorgeous. It was the perfect place for our extended family. The kids had a blast playing wiffle ball, roasting marshmallows and playing games on the porch. The views we woke up to were magnificent and the home is spacious and clean! Perfect location not far from Woodstock. We will be back for sure!!

Perfect getaway from the New York City swamp
I met 9 friends at Lachland for a reunion and a chance to get out of the heat and confinement of New York City. The property is spacious for lawn games and hanging out, and the house is huge and full of character. The piano and record player were perfect touches for myself and friends who brought up our other instruments as well. I would love to stay here again.

Staying at Lachland was absolutely magical. We had plenty of space for our group, and enjoyed cooking and eating and looking at the views from the porch our entire stay. Tammany was a wonderful host and was very responsive to our messages before we arrived. Looking forward to the day when we make a return visit!

Amazing group getaway with stunning views & restful nights
A group of 6 of us absolutely loved our stay at Lachland. So much so, we ended up extended our trip from 3 nights to a full week - we just felt right at home and didn't want to leave. The house is enormous and very clean with comfortable beds (and tons of fresh linens), the views are spectacular, it's quiet, has a great kitchen for cooking, and all the amenities were available (laundry, grill, games, TV, etc). There was plenty of space for us all to work remotely and take calls during the day and not interfere with each other, and there's a supermarket nearby for groceries. Also Tammany was extremely wonderful to chat with and very responsive. We hope to be back this year - thank you again Tammany!
