About this house rental
The Happy Clam is a large stylish comfortable home with walls of windows, including a two story great room. This makes for wonderful viewing of the water, sky and historic bridge. Inspiring in any kind of weather. The location is ideal:
* sits right on the quiet south jetty with great views from the bay to the ocean - birds and seals are constantly in view as are fishing boats cruising by
* is at the epicenter of fun stuff, all within walking distance - a serene beach, clam beds, biking, pier for crabbing, marina, Rogue Brewery, marine attractions including the fabulous Aquarium and marine science center, restaurants, shops, glass blowing, bike trails and miles of beach.
* is wonderfully comfortable for a great night's sleep, lounging, and fully equipped for fun activities including games, ping pong, pool table, foosball
* close to fun festivals, 5 min. walk to WINE AND SEAFOOD FESTIVAL and others.
5 BEDROOMS TOTAL (including small bunk bed room) with addition of ground floor apartment or:
MAIN HOUSE ( up to 08 guests) can be rented separately at approximately $100 less per night (see vrbo.com/315491) but most groups of 8 or more prefer the entire house to spread out.
The main part of the house is on the second and third level which is also why the views are so good. There we have 3 bedrooms (1-King and 2 Queens) plus a bunk room (small room with bunk beds) and a loft area with a pull-out couch. The bedrooms all have walk-in closets and baths. There are 3 HDTV's and plenty of couches and chairs. The master bedroom has a double walk-in closet, so large a twin mattress can be put in one side for an extra sleeping place.
The dining table seats 8 (10 can work) and the kitchen counter seats 3. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, pans, pots, cutlery, spices, flour, sugar.
APARTMENT is included in this option (VRBO 914857) and rates. It is a cheerful space on the first level of the home. It has a bedroom with a queen bed, a bath, a small living room and kitchen plus another HDTV. It's nice to have this space for those that are bit noisier or need more quiet time -- depending on the group.
The Happy Clam is great for smaller families and is also perfect for expanded family get-togethers, retreats, book and other clubs, reunions, birthday or other special days (including surprises) - or just plain getting away from the routine. There is no bad season to hang at the Happy Clam. It's always relaxing and never boring.

The house was everything it claims to be plenty of room for large families and more. Tha Owners are amazing and helpful. The home had plenty of things to do games, pool table, ping pong, crab pots and close to much more. We would definitely stay here again.

We are a group of four couples who have been coming to Newport every winter for the last 15 years. This is the second time we have stayed at the Happy Clam. It is such a great place. Plenty of room for all of us. Great kitchen and living area. We plan to return next year.

Our second time here for a family reunion. It’s clean and comfortable. Lots of room for a big group. The kids loved the activities in the garage. It was fun to walk down to the ocean at the end of the jetty in front of the house. We hope to come back!

We stayed here with our family (7 of us) and it was perfect. Beautiful views. Enough bedrooms and space to spread out. It’s walking distance to the aquarium which we really enjoyed. This was our first time to Newport and we’ll be back as we didn’t have enough time to explore it thoroughly.

What a great long weekend we spent in your beautiful beach home! It was perfect for our whole family to stay together, including our three grown daughters, spouses and two young grandsons. We loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom! The downstairs apartment was perfect for our daughter/spouse with two young children. The house is well-equipped with everything we needed and more! We will definitely be back😊 Thank you for sharing your lovely home!

The view was beautiful but only from second floor. The listing claimed view from bottom floor apartment but that wasn't true. Some of my family has physical disabilities & I hated it for them to have to climb stairs for a view. The listing claimed two Jacuzzis but there was only one & it was on 15 minute timer that you had to get out of Jacuzzi & walk across bathroom to reset if you wanted to soak longer. The second day we were there the ice maker quit working. The toilet on second floor kept clogging & Everytime we ran the dishwasher disgusting stuff would come up garbage disposal. We tried running garbage disposal to get rid of the disgust but it just became worse.

Our 4th year at The Clam 1st year was during COVID. Our host, Gary, is the best. His cleaning crew is the best. The property is the best. We each love our own personal space and we have it at The Clam. Great views. Great location. End of story.

The property was almost below the Newport bridge. This was a family reunion so rented the whole property. The main floor kitchen concern was the lack of storage for non perishable food. My daughter in law is 5’2” and the only storage bins were above the refrigerator that she could not reach. We moved the main cooking to the apartment where there was lots of food storage and a gas stove. Location and property exactly what we wanted. The grandkids went crabbing 3 days in a row off the public dock not far from the house. Crab pots are provided in the rental. We frequented the Rogue Brewery that was within walking distance. So was the Aquarium.

Our family had a fantastic time at this VRBO rental. The house was spacious, well-maintained, and in an excellent location. We loved being walking distance to the pier and a short drive over the bridge to shopping and restaurants. We had a blast crab fishing off the pier and had fresh crab for dinner a couple nights. The host was warm and welcoming, providing us with helpful local tips and kept us informed of local street work being done. We also hosted a 50th Anniversary party here with about 25 people and everything went off perfectly! We couldn't have asked for a better place to create lasting memories with our loved ones.

Great place to relax after work. Spacious along with all amenities you would expect from a higher end rental property. Communication with the property manager was above and beyond. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a great placy to stay.

Our family group loved staying here. It’s very spacious, wonderful views of the bridge, lots of trails to walk on near the beach. We liked all the windows and the well-equipped kitchen. The kids loved the playroom in the garage. We are planning to come back!

A bunch of family met at the coast for Thanksgiving this year and booked this listing almost a year ago and were excited the whole time. The house did not disappoint! The views were incredible and we felt extremely welcome there. The host was available to contact and responded quickly to questions. The location of the house is pretty much perfect for what we wanted (Rogue Brewery, Oregon Coast Aquarium, and exploring Newport) and we look forward to visiting again!

9 of us from east to west coast. We hiked, beach combed, golfed, great restaurants and many home cooked meals.
Plenty of room as we also rented the apartment. I was a wee bit disappointed in the bunk room as it had no windows but it worked out anyway. Made up the couch in the small apartment as a twin so all had private space. Gameroom/garage was a hit!
I would recommend for large or small groups.
My suggestion would be to remove or clean the carpets and also use scent free products for guests with allergies.
Thank you Gary for being available to us and offering suggestions

This was the 3rd year we’ve stayed here. The first year COVID was rampant. The property is situated so you can isolate completely or enjoy all the amenities Newport has to offer. We’ve done both. Our families run, hike, walk , cook (lots of eating), and complete 1,000 piece puzzles. Mostly we just enjoy being together in a magical place.

great stay. incredible views of the Newport bay exiting out the jetty and the bridge. We stayed over 7/4 weekend and enjoyed the fireworks show. Beds were comfy. Apartment downstairs (which can be rented with the main house or not) was great for the grandparents to get a little quiet time away from the grandkids.

We had 12 people in our party and had plenty of space. We parked 7 cars and still had parking for 3 more if needed. We loved the fact there was a pool table, ping pong and Foosball. The family spent lots of time utilizing them all. Close to the beach and the view from the balcony was spectacular.
More than one master suite and plenty of bathrooms to go around. We will definately be using this place again.

We had all age ranges stay here from 70 all the way to newborn babies. The house was big and had very large rooms. Very clean when we arrived and kitchen was well stocked. The walk to the beach was a little long and the beach access had some harder sand dunes for elderly to get over but we loved the beach. We could walk to the aquarium which was great. Great location and pretty quiet area. The hosts were great and very helpful when the city turned the water off on us unexpectedly! Overall a great stay!

A Great Place for Family Fun
After trying to put together a gathering of family and friends in Bandon for my wife's 70th birthday in 2020, only to have to cancel due to Covid-19, the time came to try again. This time, we opted for Newport and the Happy Clam, as we had seen this property a few years back and thought it would suit our needs. It did magnificently.
Gary was great at answering my questions and the property was well stocked and clean. All of the rooms are spacious and comfortable and there is plenty to do...rain or shine. We would definitely do this again if they'lll have us.

Okay if your young!
Looking at the pictures I thought we were on the bay. If I had known there was a big condo in our view I wouldn't have booked this property. Also, a lot of stairs, not good if your older. We were very disappointed with the location, we had to go home to rest up!

Perfect spot for a family gathering or getaway!
This is the 2nd time we rented this property for family and friends to gather. It is a perfect spot! It's large enough for everyone to have space, the area is very walkable and the views are wonderful. The house is well equipped and all ages would do well in the space. The host is very communicative and check in and out is easy. Highly recommend!

Thanksgiving at the happy clam
This house was great! Pictures do not do it justice. View was gorgeous & location was great. Kitchen on the small size (only 2 cooks allowed LOL) but well stocked. Beds were comfortable, lots of space for the 12 of us. Pool table, foozball & table tennis in garage was fun. Even had crab pots to use although we didn’t’t catch any. I would recommend this house again.

Beautiful Views
Spacious, allows for personal privacy but could handle more than the eight of us. Walking distance to the aquarium, a fish food restaurant, a brewery with a restaurant, a pier, the beach and many trails. We loved the views and the house.

Great house in a great location for a lot of people.
Huge house with lots of room for everyone - grandma and grandpa had the downstairs apartment for an easy get away while still having access to everything in the house. The rest of family had plenty of room in the upstairs areas. (Master bedroom is amazing!) It was great to have a large table for meals that we were able to make work for 10 people. Beds were comfy and the house was very quiet, from noise within and in the neighborhood.
The location is fantastic! Lots of windows that look out on the water and bridge. (Great for evening wine and conversation.) Low tide allowed for exploring right outside the door. We were able to walk to the beach, aquarium, Hatfield Center, Rogue Brewery, and one group even braved the wind and trekked across the bridge to the old harbor.
Great value for the price.

Best of the Oregon Coast
This home’s generous space, location, and style made our stay one which we will always remember.
Gorgeous panoramic views, corner lot privacy, and world class attractions, including Yaquina Bay harbor actives, will keep bringing us back.

Not for people with bad knees.
We did not know that there were so many stairs. Two elderly people had a hard time bringing up clothes and groceries. We also did not know that there would be a chance of having to leave early. Which happened. We were told the day before, but it would have been better if we had known it to be a possibility before we reserved. Would not be coming back.
