Beach is beautiful. Food was good
Room stinks in humidity, you don't want this if you don't support a high level of humidity smell. In July the place was overcrowded so it was super hard to get a place at he restaurants at dinner. Staff is not very polite, as in most places I've been there

La playa espectacular, personal amable, recomemdado 100%
Poca variedad en el buffet y falta mas animacion en general.

beach was beautiful but it there could have been more safety measures as far as splintered pieces of tree/wood coming up from the sand, you had to be careful where you were stepping.
Lack of variety in the food. It seemed all very much the same and after day 4 it was not enticing, at least the buffet. The quality was okay but not great variety. The restaurants were better. The desserts all tasted the same, no matter what they looked like and they were the same variety each day so very boring after day 4 for sure. Wait staff at the restaurants were really nice and were shocked to get a tip! The buffet restaurant staff were not as friendly. Our room was not ready even though we arrived at 9am and had paid for the night before. The staff were not going to do anything beyond telling us to go and enjoy the resort and leave our cases at reception. We said that was not good enough, we paid for our room, they kept telling us check in was at 3pm... Eventually we were given a lower grade room for the day to use until a room in our category (which we paid for) was ready and it was ready right at 3pm. Not a great start. They said they would give us a $40 credit for goods at the boutique but we never got it.

- The room was awesome, many amenities, two sinks, two walk-in showers, good sound proof glasses on the windows, king size bed.
- The beach and the sea are wonderful, most beautiful sea I've ever seen. Cristaline and warm waters, nice and calm waves, it's like a large salt water swimming pool.
- Good a la carte restaurants, mostly the Terrace (privileged exclusive), gentle and helpful staff, good prices at the gift shop.
- the buffet restaurant could be so much better. Few options, chaotic serving experience, basically the same food almost every day. If you're not privileged or ETC, you gonna have problems to eat good food in the breakfast or lunch
- too many restricted and exclusive areas, make the beach time experience less democratic and more segregated. I was in the privileged area and still annoyed me.

I really didn’t appreciate the staff of the exclusive club going around trying to sell you the plan. really avoided them at some point

I stayed with my nephew at Catalonia Bayahibe for 6 nights between 31st Jan - 6th Feb. The hotel is located in Bayahibe - La Romana, one of the most beautiful areas of DR and probably the best beach: Caribbean crystal clear water and clean smooth light brown/white coloured sand ( NO sargassum at all here! ).
The hotel is located about 45 min to 1 hour drive (depending on traffic) by car or taxi from Punta Cana airport).
We were welcomed at the reception with a cold refreshing drink and the check-in process was smooth and informative! After that we were guided to our Privileged Deluxe Room with amazing view of the gardens.
The room clean and modern with all basic amenities. They welcome you with a bottle of DR rum as a present and french macarons! All the drinks inside the fridge are free and are replaced daily if consumed. There is also water bottles for teeth brushing since the tap water should be avoided. The room is cleaned quite often and the towels are changed daily.
The pool, the beach and the restaurant areas are all beautiful and well maintained. The gardens are amazing and perfectly preserved. The sunbeds are separated according to room type/hotel section but most of the other facilities are used by all guests equally.
For some restaurants (dinner) you need to book a day or a couple of days ahead but for the main buffet (breakfast-lunch-dinner) you are free to enjoy with no booking. Everything is all inclusive: food, sallads, snacks, desserts, fruits, drinks, coffee, water etc. There is lots of food variety of good quality and taste. There are also bars/cafes to grab something to eat or drink. There is also a place serving crepes of your choice close to the beach. Water and ice provided by the hotel (even when not bottled) is safe to drink.
Beach towels you get everyday from the personal close to the pool. The thing that people wake up early to secure their sunbeds by leaving their towels is true.
The WiFi keeps dropping. I guess the hotel's network is not able to cope with the amount of traffic that guests are sending through it.

The location is amazing, most of the people who work there get out of their way to make your stay pleasant, but it’s like “putting lipstick on a pig”.
Forget about having a peaceful vacation listening to the waves and the wind bristling through palm trees… You will be blasted with music on the beach, at lunch, and everywhere all the time; the only time when “it’s nice” is in front of the bar in the evening after dinner.
Some things are falling apart, like lamps that have not been replaced.
Cleanliness looks different: it’s not that it’s dirty but some of the cutlery appeared dirty and we had an issue with our room not being cleaned the first day and we complained so much that they came at night to clean but the housekeeper washed the glass in front of our eyes in the sink and dried with dirty hand towel… 🤢. There was also a dead fly in the closet since we arrived which I didn’t say anything about to see if they would clean it, and they didn’t. The shower didn’t look like it was once properly cleaned and the water didn’t go down that well. I also didn’t understand the point of having two showers facing each other: is it suppose to be luxurious to watch your partner shower in front of you!?
Also, people were not allowed to reserve beach chairs but they did anyway and no one was controlling so you would have to get up t 5am to get a chair close to the beach and with a straw umbrella.
There is a 5-star adult only hotel next door that belongs to them and they have access to all the restaurants and facilities including beach (but you cannot access theirs).
When we checked in, we weren’t informed about the different activities that take place on the different days (like paella cooking, coconut “handout”…). I wanted coconut water and they told me there was none; that was a coconut that someone brought to be opened t the bar because they handed them out the day before 🙄.

The gardens are very well kept. Also the pool, but you could not use it because of noise from the construction site next door. Staff worked hard but everything was so badly organized that they didn’t stand a chance.
The food was ridiculously bad. Breakfast was the worst l have seen in 40 years as a travel writer. I lost 4 pounds in a week. Only one buffet, and you could sit through dinner without being offered something to drink.
Coffee machine in the room is a good idea but it didn’t work and nobody cared.
Nobody warned about noise from construction site.

Good variety with ala carte menus as well as buffet
Hotel can benefit from a better drainage system. During rainstorm there was alot of large puddles of water, impedeing walking.

We liked mostly everything about our stay at Catalonia. The resort is lovely, very well maintained and their location is very good, the best beach of Bayahibe. They have a strong client service management, always checking if we are ok, if we need anything or if any direct feedback. Food was tasteful.
It was kind of crowded during this period, but you can manage it. I would have liked to have more fish/seafood options to choose from, but this is a personal preference.

beautiful ground, beach and facilities. Staff were very nice. We liked the music choices and also that it was quiet much of the time which was the best. There were lots of birds singing in the mornings and that was a special treat.
I think they are currently challenged on the food service with the loss of the main dining area. Food was ok but often cold and would have been so much more tasty at the proper temperature.

they had a fire a few weeks ago which meant part of the resort was burnt down

The beach
Couple of things:
- Terrible Customer Service (someone was yelling really loud at me).
- Horrible Food (I was poisoned, no kidding I went to emergency).
- Dirty Room (They don't make my the room service, I don't know other guests).
- Internet was really Slow ( less than 5mbps)
- Small tv (40 inch)
- Little to no ambience (bad kid show, bad "discoteque" if you can call it that way because there's none).
- You can't really say that it's a quite place, because of the construction noise around.
- Again staff was the worse.
Note: I paid preferred club :/

Spacious facilities, beautiful and nice beach with beds that you can lie down alongside at the beach front.
Transportation around Bayahibe/ La Romana was expensive. Some restaurants were closed so only have two restaurants and one bar to choose from.

The staff were really excellent and kind. costumer service were great as well, especially Angelica and Yaris. thanks so much !
could have more shade options at the pool and the beach.

amazing beach and good food, the whole territory is very beautiful and nicely managed , beautiful swimming pools , fresh juice bar and pancakes on the beach
would be nice to improve the bathrooms next to the beach as they were functioning irregularly, and the mini disco with entertainment staff was more engaging for the kids, as well as the turtle character, better than a scheen with music moves

The pool.
The bar, the music and the food.

The beach is one of the best in the area. The food was very average we thought at first, but after visiting a couple of more hotels in the DR we can confirm that was decent according to the Dominican standards. Rodeo steakhouse was the best restaurant among the others in the hotel. There is also a fresh juice station with nice juices.
The hotel area is nice too, the hotel itself not too big so it's good for a relaxing vacation. We tried to avoid a loud all-inclusive experience with tons of people. If you are looking for parties and dancing all night long, search elsewhere.
This was the first hotel in stayed in during our trip to DR. Unfortunately, upon arrival they gave us a room where the air conditioning did not work. We were too tired after a long flight, called the reception a couple of times, they promised to send someone to check the aircon but nothing happened. We made a couple of very polite requests the next day too, the ladies at the guest service desk kept nodding and promising to send someone to fix it. The guy came the second day in the evening, walked around the aircon a bit, told it would be working in 20 mins but of course nothing changed. They only change your room when you go to the reception and demand to change it because it's simply impossible to sleep. The room we got in exchange was perfect - freshly renovated with perfectly working air conditioning. Do not hesitate to ask to change the room and be more persistent, this way you won't waste time as we did.
Do not even order prosecco or champagne, it's simply impossible to drink, beer is rubbish too.
Gift shop is overpriced.
