About this cabin rental
Located only 1 mile from Main Street, Blowing Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Bear Bungalow offers ultimate convenience, yet is nestled in a rhododendron grove for complete privacy.
Guests are greeted by two bears, "Beulah" and "Buford", hand carved from western ponderosa pine by artist Chris Smart. The front door is native wormy chestnut. The bungalow was created by a professional designer to provide guests with a unique "turn-key" environmental experience.
The living area features a wood-burning fireplace and a Bose surround sound DVD/CD/AM/FM entertainment system with a 32" HDTV. Casual leather upholstery, coordinated colors and fabrics, slate floors, solid wood tables and "hibernating bear" end tables complete the furnishings. The fully equipped kitchen features solid maple cabinets, a solid surface granite countertop, accent lighting and a solid surface range top for easy clean up.
Sleeping accommodations are provided with a King bed in one room and a Queen in the other with the bathroom between. Remote control TVs with built in VHS and DVD players are provided in both bedrooms (no cable in the Queen bedroom).
Walk through the French doors on to a private spacious deck and enjoy the Hot Springs hot tub, gas grill and sitting areas. Or stroll through the back yard and relax and enjoy the mountain atmosphere.

Great property, just as advertised. A bit hard to find, perhaps a sign at the fork on Sunrise would be helpful. Great location though!
5.0 / 5.0
Quiet, feels secluded, even though is actually 1/2 mile from businesses like Food Lion. Well stocked. Having a washer dryer was convenient. The only real downside is the 15 or so stairs to climb from the parking area. You park a full story below the cottage. Nice, otherwise.

Great location to Blowing Rock and the cabin was cozy.
4.0 / 5.0
This cabin was great for a secluded getaway. It was older but well maintained. Hot tub was about the same. This property is advertised as dog friendly but you can’t have dogs greater than 15lbs and fenced in yard isn’t completely fenced in, which is not super helpful for letting the dogs out to run. Overall a good property and great location. Would stay here again

This cabin was very clean and everything we anticipated. Would definitely stay here again.

This home is well maintained and cozy. It was a nice weekend getaway for my husband and I. The hot tub was a nice added bonus. The 2 things I would change would be to have a fire pit in the backyard and a working fireplace inside (a gas fireplace would be lovely!). Other than that, it was a very comfortable home with all the amenities needed.

Two reasons to book. Fenced yard...yes, but no gate to close off area completely. Hot tube...must have been somewhere between 70 and 80 degrees on arrival. Was eventually "warm" the next day. Never got near "hot". Otherwise the place was clean and comfortable. A short drive to Blowing Rock itself.

Location was great. Simple check in. Clean and cozy. Hot tub was ready when we got there. No complaints or surprises and management was responsive and gave us all the information we needed well before check-in. Would stay again.

Location is perfect! Cozy woodsy cabin close to Blowing Rock and Blue Ridge Pkwy. We loved all of it!

Enjoyable stay and bungalow, issue with hot tub not working until the last day and only used the fire place once because of smoke coming into the cabin and setting alarms off

Interior was decent and very clean. Exterior maintenace bad. Ice covered all the steps going up to entrance and front of landing. After telling Proprty Mngmnt 2nd day with conversations going into 4th day. I gave up and we shoveled the steps. Nothing was done by Property Mngmnt. Also there was dog poop on side deck along with branches and twigs and the hot tub was unstrapped, branches/twigs which were also on cover of hot tub. After I cleaned it off I opened the top(it was unstraped) and there were a few leaves in bottom. This leads me to believe the chemicals were probably not kept up so as much as I wanted to use the hot tub I felt the water was probably not clean enough. Exterior maintenance was basically non existent. Property Management did nothing to correct the situation.

We would stay again. Place was incredibly clean, newly reno(?) & well appointed. Hot tub worked great and was ready for us when we arrived. Would be nice if fenced backyard had a light and gate, but nice to have dog with us. Fireplace, frig, kitchen… everything spotless and made us feel comfortable. Front lamppost was not working, so coupled with dark (steep) backyard, bring a flashlight (although I think they had one). Chairs on front porch for view were okay, but nice rockers would be great. The bear theme, right down to carved bear pillars and furniture were spectacular. Small but Cozy as advertised
The only thing preventing 5 stars was our early encounter with management (Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals). They only use VRBO for initial contact. They then hound you rather harshly for signed contract; inundate you with automated emails and paperwork designed for ALL properties, (eg, “IF you have lockbox, hot tub, dog…); over-lawyered disclaimers; threatened to cancel reservation if not pay within 24 hours of notice … even though our pmt/contact info on VRBO - which had different invoice?!. When confronted, mgt denounced VRBO and AirBNB saying we should read fine print. Poor first impressions and customer service, especially the large volume, cookie cutter, sloppy communications approach.
The local staff on arrival seemed much better. The heat struggled on a cold night, but emergency heat worked great that night and trip, and tech was sent next day to ensure okay. The firewood we prepaid for was not there on arrival, but they brought it (plus extra) the next day. The fire starters that come with wood are okay, but advise you bring some Duraflame logs to avoid constantly stoking or restarting fire. Yes, they had large fire lighter; nice, thanks! Special thanks to Jessica who was responsive and very pleasant to work with. We tried to stay extra night at discount as they advertise, but someone beat us to it. Fair enough.
Location is good. Not top notch neighborhood and camper/trucks parked behind you. But location at end of street, plus evergreen shrubbery gives you plenty of privacy. While maybe only 1.5 miles from downtown shops (which are wonderful — eat at Speckled Trout!), it’s too hilly to hike unless young and don’t plan to haul back a lot of goodies! Moderate view from front porch. Pleasant but not breathtaking.
Again, we would visit again. Just wiser and ready for robo-booking/confirm process.

We enjoyed our stay in Bear Bungalow. It was in a great location, the hot tub was nice, bed was comfy, kitchen well stocked. We loved seeing deer roaming around eating the apples. It was a fabulous weekend!

The bear theme is well done inside and outside. Very clean housekeeping, but a neglect of a few minor maintenance items made it four star. Nice, fairly secluded neighborhood with good access to Blowing Rock shopping. Accessing the cabin is a bit challenging. The road is steep, narrow and partly unpaved. The stair up to the porch is steep and rough. Overall it is a great, fun place.

Bear Getaway
This cabin was awesome, great place that is super clean and centrally located to everything important! Only thing was the size of the bathroom (small) other than that great stay. I will also say the main road should be renamed from possum hollow to possum halla :-P.

Property was wonderful. Hot tub, privacy, proximity to town. We would rent this property again.

Bear Bungalow
Had a great weekend. Location was very convenient to B Rock downtown. Was OK for 2 people, did have another bedroom but would be too small for 4 people IMO. Not a lot of room in bedrooms and single bathroom was small with very minimal counterspace. Again, with just 2 people, was feasible but had to use the other bedroom a lot for storage space.

Great Place!
Wonderful stay at this cabin - great location, quick drive to Blowing Rock and to the parkway. If anything, the cabin is nicer than it appears in the listing photos. We'll absolutely be back.

So close to town. Fast internet service - was able to work remotely (not typical in many mountain rentals we have stayed with). Great service.

Privacy
Cottage is very private with just one rental unit next door. Stayed over Xmas with our first white Xmas in over ten years. Even though we were snowed in on Xmas we had planned ahead an ordered firewood for the week and were well stocked with food we brought with us.

We loved the place
Cabin was located in a great area . Right at tweetsie and tanger outlets. The cabin itself was nice and clean . Having a real wood burning fire place was really a nice setting. Who wants gas logs in a cabin not us..the hot tub was really nice. Neat little back yard. Only thing missing was a fire pit. Would definitely consider coming back!

Close to town
Oveall we enjoyed our stay. The house is close to town but not walkable since it's across from the highway. It was clean and had everything needed. The bathroom was small.

Nice BUT ...
We enjoyed the cabin!! But !!!
Some things you should know … from one rental property owner to another …
Termites are destroying the beautiful bear entrance posts …at the bases.
The BBQ grill insides are totally rusted making the grill almost useless
The backyard is overgrown with weeds, ruts, etc and not conducive for yard games or lounging as suggested in the listing
The deck needs some TLC stain?, post caps are broken and missing, etc. The table is falling apart and the chairs in the back yard are not something one would ever want to sit in.
Misc … bathtub drain is blocked and drains very very slowly – one stands in water when showering. Toaster is not working on one side.
Lastly … the road leading to property from the paved road needs some attention or you need to tell renters that vehicles with a lower clearance to ground may have issues.
Which we did … we had serpentine and almost coast in and out not to scrape the bottom of our car
Please take these comments in the spirit as intended … we encourage our renters to give us comment on our properties so we can provide the best possible experience.

Cozy Cabin, close to everything
We took our small family to this cabin between Christmas and New Years and it was perfect. The Cabin has a great fireplace and tv for movies at night, the hot tub was really nice. The road going to the cabin is gravel for about 100 yards, but really easy to get to and makes it feel more remote than you actually are. We went skiing at App Ski, only about 8 min away and spent a lot of time downtown Blowing Rock, only about 5 min away. It was a trip my family will never forget. Thank you!

Perfect Cottage
What a nice cottage this was close to town. One of the best we have stayed in. It was clean, modern appliances, and very well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked with almost all necessary utensils for cooking (but non-stick pans would have been better). The privacy was a nice surprise, which made evenings in the jacuzzi romantic. TVs in both bedrooms was great for kids while adults enjoy the fireplace. A very relaxing stay.

Gorgeous & Peaceful
This cabin is amazing and comfortable! We stayed for 5 days and loved it. It is super clean; the decor is all bears (which I loved) and it even had tasteful fall decor! The king bed was the most comfortable we’ve ever slept on! I don’t know about the guest mattress bc we didn’t use it but these owners thought of everything including wash cloths just for removing makeup! (I always bring my own, but still, very thoughtful). The porches and decks are nice to enjoy porch sitting! We absolutely love this property. If it has a downside at all, the bathroom is small but, super nice with beautiful shiny tile and so clean. The dresser in the master is perfect with lots of room and the closet is full of hangers and they even had a fan!!! (Again, we bring our own) because this is the first time one has been provided!
We would definitely stay here again. It’s a fabulous home to enjoy Blowing Rock!! Thank you so much to all!
