This is a secluded location in the mountains. It rained our entire stay, so we didn't get out and about much sadly, but the interior of the hotel is gorgeous. It reminded us of a mountain resort (like the moutain lodge in "Dirty Dancing" movie). We had planned on using the Hakone ropeway and the "pirate ship" lake ferries to explore up to Gora, but the weather shut down those transports. Which left us not much to do but look around a couple shops and play cards. They do have an aquarium close by but we did not go inside. We did have a dinner at the French restaurant, and the food was very beautiful and delicious, high-end French cuisine in a beautiful dining room with views of Lake Ashinoko.
It is secluded enough that it takes a 45 min shuttle/bus ride to get to the hotel from Odawara. We also could not use the onsen as tatoos are not allowed.

The Garden is very nice, although it's winter, but still very nice to sit on the bench by the lake
Communication is a little bit challenging, since mostly they don't speak english

Sehr entspannter Aufenthalt nach Langstreckenflug nach Tokyo, Zimmer geräumig, nettes Onsen
Hotel kommt etwas in die Jahre

Staff are fabulous at this hotel and so helpful. The room was amazing - we were upgraded to a lake view and it was such a spacious, clean and comfortable room. The view is so great and the area feels really peaceful. There is a really nice walk up the east side of the lake connected to the hotel, which is worth doing - we had a really nice lunch in a local restaurant in Hakone. The onsen is also really beautifully located and well maintained.
The only negative we felt was the price of the food in the restaurants on site. The food was great, but similar food would be found elsewhere in Japan for about a quarter of the price - but given the location of the hotel the options are limited without eating there. There are also a few areas in the hotel which feel a little dated (the bar being one of them as it crosses over with a members lounge and just doesn't appear to be used)

The staff were extermely helpful and polite.
The location was a bit isolated if you did not have access to a car.
The hotel itself was very dated for the money you pay, I can see around 30 Years ago it would have been the height of luxury. Although we were in a non-smoking room there was a musty/smokey smell around.
The options for dining on site were limited. Either pay a huge amount for meals that were not well rated or have to go off site. Where again options are extremely limited. Especially after 5pm.

Beautiful location.

We would have liked private accommodations to use the onsen, but other than that everything was incredible.
That the onsens are public and our son with a tattoo could not use the onsens. Because of those two things we chose not to use them. The spa staff was on holiday when we were there so could not get massages. That was disappointing.

breakfast was not very good

It is exceptional hotel in amazing place! We loved everything! The shuttle which met and drove us back, very friendly staff, the huge room with an amazing view, onsen, massage chair, restaurants... we regret we had only one night there... dreaming to return back at least for 3 days! Worth to visit!

The room was nice and the beds were very comfortable which was appreciated after a long day of travelling. The reason we booked the prince was to use the onsen, which was amazing. It had both internal and external pools with an ice bath, the onsen itself was clean and great to be in.
The bus system in hakone was not punctual and a little confusing, which was a little frustrating as this was the main way to travel around. Where the hotel is you either walk 30-40 min to catch the ferry or you catch a bus so just keep that in mind

Being by the lake was lovely, although the mosquitos were plentiful when we went. It's close to a cable car that takes you to the top of a mountain that gives amazing views of Fuji.
I am sure that if you have kids it's great as the resort has many activities for families.
The decor feels dated. Without a car it was difficult to get across to the main town. There is nowhere to eat in the evenings apart from the 2 hotel restaurants. Other places are too far away.
4.2
Beautiful hotel in front of the lake, secluded and quiet. Had a nice onsen. Both Japanese and Western in-house restaurants were fantastic (though a bit pricey). Had a shuttle bus to the train station, which is very convenient. Also had an hourly shuttle bus to Moto-Hakone which is very useful because the public transport options to the hotel are quite limited. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
Rooms are quite pricey. Not many transport options to the hotel if you don't drive. I think there's only 1 bus service and it's pretty infrequent.
4.2
The Room generally very clean and the bed is comfortable. Our room is with lake view. We didn't try on the onsen and dinner as we reached the hotel very late.
There nothing we didn't like.
4.2
Excellent hotspring, beautiful location. The dinner and breakfast were good. A very relaxing trip overall.
A few items were spoilt when we arrive, but were also promptly fixed or replaced by staff.
4.2
Excellent service, great location, spacious rooms
4.2
the environment is nice, just near the lake and good sightseeing.
the restaurant decoration of Japanese dinner does not meet our expectation, seems not so high end and traditional.
4.2
We enjoyed the onsen, clothing provided, and the anemities.
We were provided cards and told that we could only go one time. I was surprised that we were charged a Bath Tax.
4.2
Beautiful property on the lakefront. Fantastic view of Mt Fuji and Lake Ashi. Courteous and helpful staff who made an effort to make it a pleasant stay despite language barrier.
Menu options for vegetarians and eggless dishes were not available. This can be very frustrating.
