This was our second visit to The Elgin and this time we stayed in the heritage section of the hotel. The colonial era facilities were above expectations with lovely teak flooring and furnishings. Our room was conveniently located near the dining room, lounge area and reception. There was a wide variety of food and excellent service in the dining room. The hotel is centrally located, in walking distance from many of the main attractions and very secure. the staff went out of their way to help us at all times. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will hopefully return.

The hotel is great in general and well maintained.
While booking the hotel I paid for a room with a mountain view as mentioned on the booking.com website. However the room that was allotted didn't even have any view forget about a mountain. The windows faced a wall without any openings.

My Husband and I stayed at the Elgin for few days in January. This was a great stay in a lovely historical Hotel. The staff was friendly and professional. The room view on the city was superb. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable.

Clean and comfortable rooms in a heritage property, very close to the center of Darjeeling but still quiet and secluded, wonderful staff, this hotel had it all. When we wanted an off-menu dish for dinner the staff obliged.
The wifi was passable, but I wished could have been better. The hotel views are away from Kanchenjunga, although the lovely view of Darjeeling goes a long way towards compensating for this loss.

Great property, great decor, great location, great staff.
Food is not up to the standard. Book this hotel without a meal plan.
During winter, the bathroom jet spray is an issue. The water gets icy cold.

I specifically like the property and its location.
Very less food option.

Less staff, need to wait long to refill finished item during breakfast.
No proper cutlery provided along with food served during room dining.

Location and heritage look of the hotel was awesome. Stay was really comfortable.
They should improve upon food. Breakfast was not of adequate variety. Also menu options available are very less. If they can improve on food they should be rated 5 star.

this property was so so beautifully done up we didn’t want to leave our rooms. The service was incredible - we were given everything we needed. such hospitable and warm waiters. the rooms are plush and well maintained and the colour schemes are tastefully designed. can’t stress enough the excellent vibes we got from the Elgin! i wanted an espresso martini which they didn’t have on their menu - I told the waiter the ingredients and the procedure and he made me a fantastic one so do order that if you stay with them. last but not the least, the most friendly and adorable Labrador Casper stays at the elgin and he made our stay an absolute delight ❤️

repetitive menu of breakfast. non cooperative behavior of front desk regarding invoice type asked.

The room furnishings were good and staff was polite and smiling all the time.
1. At the time of booking, we were confirmed in writing that a pickup car hire from NJP station will be free of cost; however at the time of journey; we were told we need to pay. Getting wrong information isn't a professional behavior. On discussing with Hotel Reception at the time of checking in; we were asked to sort the matter with Booking.com corporate office - we expected the Elgin property to take more ownership and sort this kind of discrepancy instead of asking the guests to go figure.
2. The Breakfast as well as Dining Menu were very heavily skewed to Indian Platter; this was very disappointing as we had expected the options to include wider Continental Platter especially during Winter Season. Having Poha/ Idli/ Dosa during a Darjeeling Winter vacation stay was far from our imagination. For a 5 night stay, it was quite boring to have same common items everyday.

Inspite of reduced rates due to covid, they charged us the same amount which was almost twice the rate of that particular date. We felt it as a penalty for advance booking.
