About this house rental
Penny Lane Retreat at the Baba Looey Barn is located only 15 minutes from downtown Athens. The barn is located down a 1/2 mile driveway that provides you with peace and tranquility; the only sounds you will hear is that of nature! This is a working barn so every day the property owner is at the barn feeding and watering the horses.
Maximum number of guests is 2- please No exceptions.
Adults only- our minimum age is 25yr- children are not allowed- No exceptions.
We do not allow pets- No exceptions
We do not allow events or gatherings.
We strictly enforce these rules and will ask our guest to vacate the property if these rules are violated. There will be no refund of your rental costs.
This is a 700 square foot space (350 sq ft downstairs and 350 sq ft upstairs) with the bedroom upstairs and full kitchen, bathroom and living area downstairs. This barn is located in the middle of 35 acres that includes pastures, wooded areas and a 1 acre pond with a pavilion.
We have one pony (Tinker) and the famous rescue donkey (Baba Looey) that live in harmony with our two outdoor barn cats, Faye Lou and Lula Belle.
Our wish for you is to recharge both body and soul.

I needed a getaway that was close to home and this delivered! What a beautiful and peaceful location. I felt like I was far away from everything and totally alone--except for the delightful animals. I was greeted by one of the farm cats upon arrival and the horse and donkey came up right away (I think they were looking for treats.) The driveway is nearly 1/2 mile and I saw several deer. It turned out to be a rainy weekend, but that was fine with me because my plan was just to rest, read and relax. There were so many little thoughtful touches--extra toiletries if you forgot something, treats. Everything was super clean and had everything I could possible need for a wonderful weekend. I'll definitely return.

Graduation Weekend in Athens.
I cannot imagine even game days in Athens to be more chaotic, crowded, no parking, packed, etc.
We first looked at hotels downtown - good luck with that unless you book for graduation weekend a year in advance.
So...other than some $700+ per night options, I decided to 'take the road less traveled'.
And boy, did we hit a HOME RUN!!!
Just 15 minutes from downtown, you would think we had traveled an hour and 20-years back to a beautiful horse (and donkey!!!) farm.
A very nice 1 BR, 1 Bath 'condo' on the opposite side of a working barn with all the modern conveniences!
If you are not into rustic settings and the smell of nature, this is not for you.
But if you are this person, you will not find a better place to escape the ever-growing metropolitan style-of-life that Athens has become + all the stress/anxiety that comes with it.
Peaceful walking trails along the creek into a pristine forest lead you to a beautiful pond and pavilion with rockers and swings only a short 1/4 mile walk from the barn. Circle another mile or so on the private walking trails (or biking if you bring them)
No sounds other than nature.
Snacks for the horses (and Baba Looey of course) are provided along with all the essentials of home.
Even the 'human' snacks were a welcome surprise for us on arrival.
Only one TV - honestly, I never watched it! I was in the hammock or enjoying the quiet and never missed it!

My wife and I stayed here the night of our wedding. Our venue was in Athens and this was just outside of Athens on a beautiful farm. It was so peaceful and simply wonderful. There are also a few farm friends that were a sweet surprise in the morning. All of them are gentle and friendly. The views the morning after we’re great. Although we only stayed one night, this place would be a great for a quiet extended weekend away. It would even be a good spot for Bulldog weekends if you’re not interested in staying downtown amongst the parties.
Leslie even added some personal touches congratulating us on our wedding. She was a great host, communicated perfectly, and we couldn’t have asked for more

We pick a get away somewhere once a month. LOVED this choice. The absolute best host we have ever encountered. We had an issue with our vehicle and they helped us out!

This place was everything we hoped for. Such beautiful surroundings and lovely accommodations make me want to return and spend more time there on a personal retreat. We were away during most of the day we stayed there enjoying the Botanical Gardens and eating out, so I didn't get to relax for hours on end just soaking it all up. Next time!

Wonderful property, kind hosts, generous accommodations and a relaxing atmosphere. The barn cats, doggies, horse and donkey were very sweet, weren't a bother at all and added to the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the paved walking trail and ability to stretch my legs after a long drive.

My friend and I stayed at the Baba Looey Barn and loved every moment! The weather was perfect for us to enjoy long walks on the property. We read on the dock by the pond and enjoyed being in nature. Penny and Leslie are wonderful hosts who have thought out every detail. We loved all the animals! It was perfect! I can't wait to visit again.

We stayed at the barn in Athens while visiting our son at UGA. It was a football weekend and we were so excited to find a place to stay close to Athens. The farm property was gorgeous and the little barn apartment was so quiant and cute. We loved feeding the animals before we left on Sunday. Lesley was so accomodating and met our every need. She was there to greet us at check-in and arranged our transportation to the game. The hospitality was top notch! I highly recommend this barn as a great weekend getaway. It is close to the UGA campus (about 15 minutes) and so amazing!! My only regret is that we didn't book additional weekends in advance for football season. We will definitely return. Go Dawgs!!

So good at finding the rare gems!!
This property was so beautiful from the moment you turn into the drive. There is peace in every sense of the word and I imagine Penny fell in love with this place the first time she ever saw it. There was definitely a vision in what gives you peace when you are here. I enjoyed a long walk, saw the pond, enjoyed the barn, petted the animals, and enjoyed the sunset. I wish I would have had more time to enjoy everything, but I will most definitely be back!

Perfect spot for tranquility & renewal of your soul
Excellent communication with Leslie from beginning to end! Everything was just as advertised and even better! This location has unmatched tranquility in a rustic setting with all of the amenities. Anything you may have forgotten (toothbrush, soap etc.) is stocked just in case you need it. We LOVED getting to feed the animals and love on the barn cats and dogs on the property. Thank you Penny & Leslie for providing such a peaceful spot to rest and renew our minds, bodies, and spirits!

Awesome place
My husband & I decided to rent this place for an evening when we needed to stay in Athens after a dinner function. I opted for this instead of a hotel. I'm so glad I did! Peace and quiet!! We enjoyed walking the trails, seeing the animals and taking some time just for the two of us. Will definitely recommend to friends & family! We hope to come back soon!

Beautiful property, great owners, awesome amenities
The property itself was stunning, the barn was beautiful me and my wife were both surprised when we first looked around. They had everything we would need, just in case we forgot anything. The owners were very communicative and kind. And the amenities were great there is a pond on the property that you can either relax by or fish in, they provided a fire pit and fire wood. All in all it was great stay and we look forward to going back next year.

Peace and quiet
We spent a quick weekend away here. It was incredible! From the scenery all around us down to the smallest little detail in the barn- we give it 5 stars. It was so peaceful and quiet and it provided a great place to rest and restore our souls. We will have to come back again!

Perfect weekend getaway in Athens!
Penny Lane Retreat was the perfect location for our weekend visit to UGA! The beautiful and peaceful setting was the ideal respite from the hustle and bustle of campus, and close enough to make it easy to visit with our son (a UGA student.) The barn accommodations were comfortable and cozy, with everything we needed right at our fingertips. The sweet and friendly animals were as welcoming as our wonderful host. From the fresh flowers and welcome treats to the spare toiletries and detailed instructions on how everything worked - no detail was overlooked. All combined to make for the best experience we've ever had at private accommodations!! Our only regret was not having more time to spend there!!

Great Experience Wonderful Hosts !
Baba Looey Barn was awesome and a wonderful quiet peace of nature so close to Athens. We loved the views; Faye Lou was our favorite kitty and she loved to sit in our laps while we watched the horses and cows graze. The pond was wonderful and feeding the turtles and fish was so relaxing. House was perfect for us and had everything we needed to enjoy our short stay. We plan to be back again !! Thank Ya'll !!

I'm a combat veteran and he had a horrific accident that left us both unable to handle the booms. I poured over properties that would be suitable for our needs for weeks and settled on Penny Lane Retreat. Thank goodness I did!!!
We had the most restful, peaceful weekend we could have asked for. The barn was so quaint and comfortable. The owners were incredibly thoughtful, friendly, and welcoming (seriously - they thought of EVERYTHING!). And we had lots of animal friends to keep us company. The owners put out water pistols, in case barn cats aren't your thing, but we adored them!
The highlights for us were the beautiful pond|pond structure and the animals. Feeding cookies to the mini donkey and horses was the icing on the cake.
We will most definitely be back in the future and I highly recommend that anyone looking for a peaceful weekend in a unique location stay here as well.

Perfect Getaway
The property is beautiful. It was very clean and cozy. The owners had every item available if you needed it. Playing with the cats and feeding the horse was so fun. We will definitely go back when we have more time.

Heaven on Earth !
My husband surprised me with a little weekend getaway and I was thrilled to find out that this property is on +30 acres, with lots of beautiful and kind animals. First, there is Dilbert aka "Duracell", when you will meet him, you will see that the nickname fits him very well, he has a very cute little brother ( so sorry I forgot his name). Then we have Baba Looey the gentle donkey, Chili the beautiful horse that loves cookies, Tinker the sweet little pony, Faye Lou and Lula Belle the beautiful cats that followed me, stayed with me the whole time when I went for a walk in the woods. All of these beautiful creatures made our stay so meaningful. Last but not least, Leslie and Penny are two very nice Ladies, they welcomed us with so much kindness. They went above and beyond to make us feel right at home. We left this place this morning but we already plan on going back because we left a little piece of our hearts in this fabulous place. May God bless you abundantly Leslie and Penny, we are blessed and happy to know you and hope to see you again very soon.

Cozy, Rustic and Southern Hospitality at its Finest!
Staying at the Baba Looey Barn at Penny Lane Retreat was the perfect getaway for our first weekend away as new parents. Leslie exceeded any expectations I had prior to visiting by calling us and wishing us a safe trip up, greeting us with Doogie and Dilbert on property as we came and went, as well as leaving us fresh baked cookies upon arrival. The attention to detail in the barn was so thought-out and appreciated. We felt so comfortable and at-home instantly. We only wished we could have stayed longer and enjoyed everything Penny Lane Retreat offers its guests. We loved feeding Chili, Tinker and Baba Looey oatmeal cookies! The barn was so clean and cozy with beautiful views of the surrounding pastures. Thank you for your horseshoe sentiment as we will always remember our stay at the Baba Looey Barn in Athens! Hidden Gem
I read the reviews which prompted me to book Penny Lane Retreat, but I was still pleasantly surprised and delighted when we finally saw the property. It was truly a hidden gem so close to UGA. My daughter and I stayed here and found it convenient to get to the campus for our scheduled activities. The property was pristine and the farm was a real escape from the hustle and bustle of our normal activities. We made time to sit outside each evening to enjoy the stars. It seemed every detail was anticipated from Q-tips to breath mints. Staying here was a real treat. We will be back.
