Beautiful place and great atmosphere thanks to lovely staff. The restaurant food was good and there are a couple of other options for food nearby. It was pretty quiet, not many other guests, but this was welcome to unwind after a day of climbing
Cold showers

lovely location and helpful staff, the food was amazing when we ate in the restaurant! Especially Jenny’s pizzas.

We were staying in a cabana. The room and the view are stunning, boutique feeling. You can open the wooden doors and then you have a view over the vallee from your bed. The bathroom is big. The common spaces down on the hill are also nicely decorated and the food is great. Very helpful staff.
The fact that we couldn't book another night as it was full ;-).
Only internet in the common spaces. Up on the hill, in our cabana, the internet was too poor to open a website, but the view makes up for that.

Really nice place, clean and tidy. There are facilities to cook yourself, but the food at the restaurant was excellent. You're 50m away from an amazing view on the valley, I recommend the sunsrise from there :)
Thanks to Sebastian and his brother, they provided useful info on the area and really made me feel at home.

Located very close to the rock climbing. Nice kitchen and common area spaces. Dorm was clean and had lots of space for bags. Kind and helpful staff.
Wifi didn't reach the dorm I stayed in. The bed was as hard as a rock (ironic).

Chilled place, really helpful Sebastian, beautiful spot in a garden, mountains around, the viewpoint of canyon just 50 meters. Delicious food!
Only cold water in shower, there's not a lot to do around. But I still enjoyed!

The service was terrible! and the food was not good and expensive.

We only stayed for one night as the neighbouring property didn't (did, that's another story) have availability in the middle of our stay there. We wish we have stayed at Hostal Juan Palitos for all our stay. Sebastian was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, the coffee amazing and the room was very nice. We were in the area to climb at Refugio La Roca so thought we had to stay there to climb but you don't. If you are in the same boat do yourself a favour and stay at Hostel Juan Palitos. For the same money you get a very nice, proper on suit room rather than a tiny wooden hut at the bottom of a hill next to a road.

1. Nice travelers
2. Nice location close to rock climbing
1.it was very hard to communicate with Sebastian. I didn't understand his Spanish. He frequently spoke quickly and with a frustrated tone of voice. We had many miscommunications while I was there. The price started at 38, then 40, then 35, then 65 and the frequent changes with long winded and confusing explanations were frustrating and tiring. I was unable to understand his explanation about buses and had to go next door to get help with buses. He asked us to leave the lobby area at 9pm when he went home. He did attempt to improve communication when I complained to him and was open to repairing the breakdowns which I appreciated very much
2. Broken fridge with no attempts to fix, apologies or solution
3. Cold at night with insufficient blankets
4. Lots of street noise
5. Cold showers with low water pressure
6.one padlock on the door with one key for all three of us in the room so no way to secure valuables. Also we didn't lock the padlock so that we could get.in and the door kept blowing open at night
7. Charged you to refill water

Great friendly staff. Was really kind and helpful
The shared kitchen refrigerator needs cleaning and was not plugged when I arrived, maybe wasn't functional

Ivan was an awesome host! He was available at all times to answer all the requests we had, food is amazing, location is amazing and did I already mention the food is amazing? It was my second visit and I'm planning the third one!
lots of bugs but what else can I expect from staying in nature.

Parking is bit uphill but car manager to get there, overall hostel is ok, all looks live and natural, the only issue is absence of hot water in showers, but that is not a big problem.

In short, the staff, location, and private rooms are amazing. We were checked in by Gustavo, who took care of us for our whole stay. He was one of the most helpful and kind people we've met after a month in Colombia!
The private rooms are super nice. They're built in a natural/countryside style, but with very cool touches. Ours had an outdoor shower! There can be a few bugs occasionally, but it's part of the experience, and there's mosquito nets.
There are lots of hikes nearby, as well as outdoor rock climbing.
The food — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — are excellent. We stayed for over a week and ate there every day. The vegetarian pizza, chicken main, speciality ice tea, and hot chocolate were my favourites. Breakfast was really good too, and for a very fair price.
On leaving, Alejandra was also very nice and helpful, and she even helped to arrange transport for us.
I think that this is the best place to stay in the area — despite the place next door looking more flashy (we spent time there too): the staff at Juan Paulitos are much friendlier and nicer, and the environment is more tranquil.
The only things I can think of:
- We had our laundry washed two times during our stay, and the last time it came back a bit damp.
- Food and drink were amazing, but the only thing that they're missing are fresh juices (jugos).
Also, if you can, bring mosquito repellent and/or one of those repellents that goes into the electrical outlet, to make the stay 100% comfortable.
