Cozy cottage in convenient location.
This comfortable cottage is located close to all the local attractions. We enjoyed our interaction with the owners, who are excellent hosts.

Great location!
This property has everything you could need! It's in a fantastic location, close to town (yet quiet) and in proximity to some of the best hiking & snorkeling. It's clean and spacious and boasts a charming outdoor space in the back. Check-in and check out were a breeze and our hosts were sure to provide us with everything we would need for our stay. We will definitely return and hopefully stay for much longer!

Kohala & Hawi
Rain squalls throughout Sunday did not detour our plans for enjoying the area We picnicked in a park & watched the waves roll in & boys on small boards surfing. Your place was clean & accommaodsting for all our needs But we did miss having a TV to watch in the evening Mahalo!

Best guest house experience we've yet had on the Big Island
This guest house is simple and bright and beautiful, very well-maintained and homey. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and their pet dogs are lovely to have nearby.
It's kind of tough to describe but the property manages to be private and tucked away from the main street while at the same time being literally no more than 20-30 steps from shops, restaurants etc. You can get to them in less than a minute of walking, and get away from it all just as quickly.
We love to cook, and it would have been nice to have had a few more kitchen amenities like a cheese grater, more than one cutting board, another mixing bowl etc., but that was more than balanced out by the fact that there was a barbecue. (The listing didn't mention a barbecue, and that was the only thing that made us debate whether or not to book the place. We decided we could make do without, because it had so many other things going for it. So it was a nice surprise to discover there was a barbecue after all.)
Very highly recommended.

Beautiful studio cottage, very clean. On site laundry. Kitchen has everything you need to cook a full meal and bathroom is clean and stocked with towels.
You have a separate back yard area from the owners, but you are free to wander the whole property.
Very friendly dogs on owners side of property.
David and Yael were very friendly and hospitable and offered advice on the surrounding area.
Park at the end of the street with public pools, skate park, and driving range/golf course.
King Kamehameha birth place and Mo’okini Heiau are 10 minutes away. Walking distance to local restaurants. 5 minute drive to Hāwī.
We took the drive to meet a tour for Mauna Kea from this location as well.
Another beautiful part of the Big Island that all travelers should visit.

Staying here at this beautiful cabin was so restful for the heart, mind, body and Soul❤
My fieance and I live on the Island but wanted to experience the other side of the island. We were instantly drawn to this place and was so happy to see it was more amazing in person. Everything you could need was stocked up for use and we truly appreciated that. The cozy scene of nature and beauty of Hawaiis flowers and fruit trees were all around. You feel like you're in a secluded oasis. The owners were so loving and welcoming. We are so excited to return soon and explore more of that side of the island. We will definitely be staying here again

Out of the way. Nothing to do. Nothing to see. Not worth the price and poor communication with the owners.

Sweet cottage in paradise
We very much enjoyed our stay. Loved the area. Cottage was great. Appreciated the beach towels and other local supplies. The one unfortunate surprise was the barking dogs at the owners’ house next door which woke us up early one vacation morning and went on for some time at other times of day. Would recommend noting on listing. Otherwise all great. Thanks!

Mixed experience at Havi
The cottage was nice but the windows were left open and everything was damp including the bedding. The steep driveway was rough and a big pothole actually damaged our rental car! Handling an insurance claim while on vacation is not fun.

It's A Bug's Life
We stayed in 5 different properties in our two weeks on the Island and this was a bit disappointing. The biggest issue was the bugs; both inside and out. If the owner would have taken some care to see that at least the inside of the cottage had some extermination, we would be able to give it one more star. Two other properties were in a rain forest so we understand the challenges that homeowners may face with nature but this was a tough one. Based on the four other properties we stayed in, for the price, we would have expected more amenities. Mason jar glasses for drinking, no iron/ironing board. Outside rusted washer with a clothesline (rained both days we were there.) This property has potential but needs more attention to detail.

Lovely cottage, perfect for 1-2 people.
Ed is a great host. Everything you expect is in the home to enjoy your stay. Boogie boards, beach towels, ice chest, cooking stuff, maps and guides to the island. The town with the home is lovely. Farmers market a must. Our second stay with Ed, last time in the big house on property, this time the cottage. We will be back.

Sweet little place that was perfect for two.
We enjoyed our stay at Ed's cottage. It was a perfect base to explore the north end of the island from. The place was clean and cozy. It's situated right behind the main house but faces back and felt very private. It stormed hard on one of our days there which led to curling up with a cup of amazing Kona coffee and reading for half the day. Later on we drove down the coast and ended up watching whales breaching right off the shore.
The Kohala coast feels a bit like a lost paradise. Kapaau and Hawi are friendly and walkable. We bought laulau pork from a roadside vendor that was amazing.
If you want to experience Hawaii without zip lines, guided tours and poolside attendees this is definitely for you.

Peaceful Retreat
This handcrafted beautiful cottage surrounded by the classic Hawaiian garden was was perfect for my short stay. Quiet, cozy, and with everything I needed. It was a great get away and provided me an opportunity to spend time with myself. The only sounds I heard were those of the many birds that live at this sanctuary, palm trees swaying in the wind and the light rains that keep this place lush and green. A place to remember --- a place to return to.

Back to nature
Very nice getaway, it's like home away from home. We had everything we need and more. Beaches are close, lots of things to do and see. I would recommend that place for the site, simply beautiful and relaxing.

Quiet garden cottage
Calm, quiet, well-made garden cottage in Kapaau. Extremely comfortable. If you're coming to Hawi / Kapaau, you probably aren't seeking out nightlife and glitter, and a restorative stay at a garden cottage in a walkable neighborhood is exactly the ticket. Thanks, Ed, we'll be back!

Excellent
We enjoyed the little cottage - lots of light, comfortable bed, nice gardens. Ed was friendly and a great host and had some excellent suggestions for local places to visit. The house and cottage are in a quiet neighbourhood with some cozy local eateries. Its not really walking distance to the coast , or at least we didnt find any obvious ways to walk from the cottage to anywhere other than the local community but its a short drive to lots of amazing beaches and cliff walks. As I think some other reviewers have mentioned, there were a few ants on a couple of the window sills but they are only little fellows (gecko snacks) and didn't seem to be interested in us and not bity. Not a problem. We appreciated that at the end of our stay Ed asked us for feedback and if anything needed to be improved on - we had only good things to say.

Very nice cottage, lots of light, great yard
The cottage is quite lovely, with the large windows in the back of the house that you see in the photo. You look out on a very nice yard with large palm trees. It is quite private in the back. The kitchen is functional with a small fridge and good stove. It could use some cupboards above the counters, everything including plates, bowls and glasses is in drawers.
Ed was friendly and gave us some great tips on challenging hikes, places to eat, etc. He lives in an AirStream trailer in the back yard during the winter and rents out both the main house and the cottage. The trailer is hidden from the cottage, so it does not affect privacy.
We had a nice time in the evening driving down to the airport and turning left down the dirt road to a great whale watching spot. Another good spot is the Old Coast Guard road in the other side of Hawi.
If you are cooking then you might want to do your shopping in Waimea or somewhere else before you arrive. The local market in Hawi is a bit limited.

Beautiful green Hawaii. In a quiet Hawaiian village, Kapaau.
Very restful and easy. Authentic experience of actually living in Hawaii that can't be duplicated at a luxury hotel.
