About this vacation rental
Spend your vacation in our comfortable Moody Point beach home. Our Sunshine Shack is located just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean at the end of a safe and quiet dead end street with only three other houses on the road. We have lovingly updated this cottage. We hope the details and effort will show how excited we are to share our cottage and beautiful Moody, Maine with other families and friends. Come see what is so special about the Wells, Moody, Ogunquit and Kennebunk beaches, restaurants and activities.
Our two story Sunshine Shack is filled with sun and is appointed with comfort and pleasant coastal colors and textures. We have 3 bedrooms and can sleep up to 9 comfortably (Bedroom one has 1 Queen, Bedroom two has 1 Queen and 1 Twin, Bedroom three a true family suite has 1 Full, 1 Twin daybed, and 1 Twin Bunk Bed. Linens are not provided, (please pack all bedding and linens) to guests. Cottage Linens is a local linen rental company that is available if you wish to rent linens.
There are two bathrooms (one full and one 3/4) and a full custom kitchen with bar seating for four. The kitchen seamlessly flows into a sitting area which then gives way to the dining area. The dining table seats 6 and is positioned in order to enjoy the ocean views out of the eight foot slider that opens to the deck. The upstairs is very open and makes for an excellent entertaining area. Open the newly installed oversized sliding door and let the sight, sound, and smell of the ocean fill the cottage and your heart.
Our air conditioned, beach cottage includes a 46” Flat Screen TV which is mounted above a gas fireplace. We have WiFi and an office space downstairs for someone who was unable to completely leave work behind and a Play Station for the occasional and sometimes welcomed rainy day. Our kitchen has a combination of granite countertops and warm butcher block surfaces, stainless steel appliances, and all the cooking and dining items you may need. We also have a beautiful large gas fire pit that sits off our deck where you can have a glass of your favorite summer beverage in the glow of fire light all while listening to the waves crash the shore just 50 yards away. Outdoors we have a patio table on the deck and a small conversation patio set. A good sized yard, lawn games and plenty of areas and activities to enjoy outside of the cottage.
Some of the places we really enjoy in the Wells/Ogunquit area include:
Wells Harbor where they have restaurants, a free concert every Saturday evening (in season) in the gazebo, a great playground, and a working dock where you can watch the lobstermen come and go, take a fishing charter, catch crabs, or rent kayaks and paddle boards.
Wells Beaches are made up of miles of sandy and salty goodness. They include Moody Beach, the Main Beach (trolley stop) Crescent Beach and Drakes Island Beach. These are all great places to fly kites, discover sea life in tide pools and jump over or run from waves.
Laudholm Farm and the Rachel Carson Preserve are both in Wells and are excellent nature centers where one can Bird watch and walk along trails and see the beautiful transition from Maine woodlands to freshwater estuaries to saltwater marsh life.
In Ogunquit we enjoy going to Perkins Cove (trolley stop). This is either the start or the finish of Marginal Way, a coastline walking path with perhaps the most picturesque and bold views of the Atlantic ocean that you will ever find. Ogunquit has many great restaurants, a nationally recognized beach, a good nightlife and a world renowned Play House. The best part is that it is the next town over and only a short drive or trolley ride from our cottage.
We have provided internet links in our online guest book to some of our favorite places in the area and have also included a few “secret spots” in a booklet in the cottage. We live and work in the area and will always try to be available for questions regarding the cottage and things to do. We truly want whoever rents our Sunshine Shack to have the best time and feel like they got to know our coastal community and love the whole experience as much as we do.

The house is on a nice quiet street, with a longer walk than we wanted, but still only around 7 minutes to the first public access walkway for Moody Beach.
The listing stated there was a hot tub - that was a mistake, but nothing we would have used anyway. If you’re looking for one though, it’s worth noting here that the listing is inaccurate.
Our only complaint are regarding the quality of the beds - they were very cheap and thin.

Amy and Ned were so accommodating and let my family checked in early so can unload our refrigerated food in such a hot day. They also responded to my questions so timely. I felt in love with this cute beach house the moment we stepped in. The house is spotless, bright and equipped with all the necessities. The best part, it’s walking distance to both the Moody Beach and Crescent Beach. I actually like the fact the the sliding door was missing the screen because I can leave it open to feel the ocean breeze and listen to the wave crashing the nearby shore, and surprisingly no bugs at all. We love this place and hope to return in the near future.

Our 3 generation family of 7 adults had a great week at the Sunshine Shack. We especially enjoyed the ocean view while sitting on the deck.

This was a great spot: close to the ocean, the beaches and near Wells and Ogunquit. The owners were very nice and helpful.

Travelers need to know that this house does not provide any linens when you rent this property - no bed sheets, pillow cases, or towels - for fewer than 7 days. I have never encountered this before in renting a place, so it came as a bit of a shock. The property managers did give me advice on a local company that will rent linens for around $50 per bed/person, so keep that in mind if you choose to rent this place. That said, the house was great - it had a washer and dryer (someone had left Tide Pods so we didn't haven't to go buy detergent) and nice kitchen with everything we needed. The property managers provided clear instructions and everything was great as far as getting into the house. Some of the lights on the deck were burned out and we didn't use the BBQ or the small gas firepit. The house is tucked back on a small cul de sac and not on a beach or even near the water really (access is a bit of a walk away) and the beach is very rocky anyway and not really suitable for visiting, but you can hear the waves and see a small sliver of ocean from the deck. The house is very cozy and cute. Just be aware that you'll need to drive 5 ish minutes to a sandy beach (and pay for parking) and that you have to either bring your own sheets or rent them and have them delivered. Wells, ME is a very small and quiet town - we drove about 10+ minutes to find restaurants - Batson River on 73 Mile Rd was our favorite - but there is a grocery store and CVS nearby that were really handy.

Loved the location. Disappointed there was not a screen for the sliding door to enjoy the ocean breeze and sounds.
More wear and tear than depicted in the pictures.

Stayed with family for a week. House was very spacious for 8 adults. Bedrooms were good for families or multiple couples. House was well equipped for cooking Great deck with ocean views with the sounds of the waves crashing. Easy drive to Wells and Ogunquit beaches. Owners were easy to communicate with and very responsive. I would recommend without hesitation.

We needed a place to accommodate our family with 5 adults and two teens and it was just right! It has a nice yard for activities and games.
The upstairs bathroom has a tiny shower and a small sink. Great for the guys in the group that don’t have to shave their legs or blow dry their hair. There are also a lot of stairs to climb to get to the main level, so I would not recommend this place for people that have a hard time getting around. Other other than that it was all wonderful! 😊
We could walk to Ogunquit Beach and to the Wells Lobster Pound. I highly recommend their fish sandwich.
We hope to go back again….we loved it there!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Sunshine Shack, and I cannot express enough how exceptional my experience was. From the moment I booked until the day I checked out, every aspect of my stay surpassed my expectations. Here's a detailed review highlighting the cleanliness, host communications, and overall property that made this stay truly great.
Cleanliness:
One of the first things that impressed me upon entering the property was its impeccable cleanliness. The entire place was spotless, and it was evident that the hosts take great pride in maintaining a hygienic environment. The bathrooms and well-maintained kitchen, every corner of the property was flawlessly clean. It was truly a pleasure to stay in such a pristine and well-cared-for space.
Host Communications:
The hosts of this VRBO property were simply amazing when it came to communication. From the initial booking inquiry to the check-out process, they were prompt, friendly, and attentive to my needs. They responded to my messages promptly, providing clear instructions and addressing any questions or concerns I had. For example, I was traveling with my 18 month old and needed to ensure there was a pack n play available.
Overall property:
The property boasted an impressive array of amenities that added immense value to my stay. The kitchen included a Keurig machine, which made coffee making super convenient. The comfortable and well-furnished living spaces provided ample relaxation options, and the high-speed internet access was a definite plus. Additionally, the presence of a washer and dryer allowed me to travel light and keep my clothes fresh throughout my stay. I will say the stairs provided a bit of a risk traveling with my kid, but we adjusted and put chairs in front of the stairs. A gate might be nice to include for future guests with kids.
Overall Experience: 5 stars!
In conclusion, my Sunshine Shack stay exceeded all my expectations. I miss Maine already and cant wait to go back!
I highly recommend this VRBO property to anyone seeking a clean and well-managed space with ample room and beds for everyone in your group!

We prefer to travel in shoulder season to avoid the crowds. This rental had almost everything we needed: bbq, beach chairs, extra blankets and pillows, equipped kitchen, 2 full baths, and plenty of space. When it was chilly at night, we turned on the heat. The a/c wasn’t as effective, but being mid-September, we only needed it once. A fan would be helpful! (I brought a potable fan.)
We enjoyed a night around the fire pit and short walk to Moody Beach. Great location- would stay again!

A great weekend. Location was perfect, we walked to olgunquit, and there are many local restaurants within a short drive. Listing was accurate. Amy was very helpful with questions prior to our arrival. Would highly recommend this property.

Great location and lovely home....only 2 things I would say could make the stay even better. A tea kettle added to the kitchen and better mattresses would push this over the top!

This was a perfect house for our week in Wells. Lovely private lot on a dead-end street and while, one row back from the oceanfront - the view from the deck was spectacular. House was clean with plenty of towels and linens. Easy access to multiple beaches and a short bike ride to ice cream. Owners were easy to book with and responsive to questions.

Not for little kids or elderly - but great otherwise
First of all - the owners did not misrepresent anything and as a matter of fact I was warned by them ahead of our visit. They were great in communicating with us ahead of the trip. I wanted to write this review in case there are others that think it's a good idea to stay at this property with really young kids.
The stairs are between the living spaces and kitchen, meaning this really high traffic area can be quite dangerous for little ones. I had to move furniture around a lot to keep the kids safe. There is no screen on the front sliding door - so once again we couldn't keep it open in case the kids walk outside and fall down the stairs on the deck. The bathrooms don't have any handheld showerheads so it was quite hard to wash the kids, couldn't use the hose outside either as it had a hole on it.
Other than that though the pictures on the listing are very accurate. It's in a lovely location that is quiet - the ocean breeze flows right in . Sitting out on the deck is a dream !

Rented this for a weekend visiting family nearby. Gorgeous place, great views, perfect for hosting my aunt and uncle when we weren’t out and about. Would definitely return!!

Great weekend
Very good weekend up in wells. House is very clean and it’s in a great location, views on the deck watching the sunrise we’re the best.
I typically always give 5 stars but this one I did four, mainly because some things that were mostly out of the owners control. The heating units were having issues (first cold weekend for them so they didn’t know). Heat did work but not for the entire house. Also the grill definitely is at the end of its lifespan and I couldn’t get it going… owner did though and said it was going to be upgraded for next year. Both minor things that it’s obvious they’re working on to resolve.
Owners were great hosts overall and I would definitely come back and stay here. They even shifted my beer into the shade that was getting too much sun and dropped off doughnuts because they felt bad about the heating situation. Solid spot, would recommend to all.

Relaxing and Peaceful
Loved drinking my morning coffee outside on the deck mesmerized by the sights and sounds of the ocean. House was very clean, nice layout, A/C was great, kids loved the bunk beds, and having the 2 full bathrooms was great for my family of 5. The home is in a quiet location with quiet neighbors. It was a 10-minute walk for beach access, which was great for the adults in the group who appreciated the exercise, but maybe not so much the case for my 5 and 7 year old (half of the walk does not have sidewalks). We passed the Wells Beach Lobster Pound on the way to the beach and it was nice to grab a few yummy, fresh lobster rolls (with plenty of lobster!) after a day at the beach. Overall, a wonderfully relaxing experience in a great house! Thank you to Ned and Amy!

Beautiful Cottage with the sounds of the Ocean
My family stayed here for a week in July. The space is clean, the kitchen was well stocked. We were a total if 3 families staying together. The division of beds/rooms were perfect. My parents used the bedroom on the upper floor, my family (2 adults and one child) lower bedroom, and my sister's family (2 adults, and 2 kids) used the bunk room. The washer and dryer were nice to have and I used the small desk area to have a couple of work meetings in the afternoons when we got back from the beach.
Amy and Ned were great to work with and answered all my questions quickly. They even gave us a gift certificate to their seafood restaurant which was excellent!
From the house Moody beach is access from public way number 3. It is a private beach so you can not sit in a chair unless you are on the strip of beach that is part of the public way. Only the beach front properties can "use" the beach infront of their house. As a visitor staying not right on the beach you can walk Moody beach at any point. Since we had kids with us we drove to Ogunquit beach (which connects to Moody beach) all week. Parking is $4/hour, or $25 the day. The lot never ran out of spots and the bathrooms were very clean. The other beach we could have used was Crescent beach, but there is not as much beach at high tide and was definitely rockier than Ogunquit. We didn't make it down there but I would assume the shells would be better at Crescent.
Yes, you could walk to the beach, but if you want to sit on the beach and have a wagon load of stuff and kids you probably will want to drive and park. The walk to Moody is on a narrow road with more traffic then I would feel comfortable walking with small children.

Hear and see the ocean waves from a short distance
The property was generally as described and clean. Kitchen has utensils, basic pans, and dishware but is otherwise not stocked for serious cooking as only salt and pepper were available. No games or books were available so the set up was fairly basic with tv and high speed WiFi. Of course, we were there during COVID restrictions and imagine that the property is better equipped during other times. It is a short walk to the ocean but the beach is private and not accessible. One can see the ocean and hear the waves however from the living room so that was a big plus but one has to drive or take a shuttle to one of the beaches as those nearby are private. The house is otherwise conveniently located near wonderful beach towns of Kennebunkport and Oguinqut. If you don't mind a hike/drive to the beach, it's a good place to stay.

The property was as described and met our needs for the week. We were looking for a relaxing low key vacation and it delivered. The property was within walking distance to Moody Beach and easy drive to Ogunquit and adjacent sights. Would highly recommend.

Loved, Loved, Loved
My husband, son, and I LOVED this property. We thoroughly enjoyed having our morning coffee on the deck watching the sunrise over the water, and we also loved having a glass of wine and cheese in the evening on the deck while our son rode his scooter up and down the private lane. My son loved walking to the rocks each day as a recess break from virtual school. There was plenty of space for my son and husband to both work remotely at their own desk. The beach is close enough that I walked the beach each morning. It is in the perfect location to hear and see the ocean, and centrally located to get to Kennebunkport and Ogunquit.
Amy and Ned were WONDERFUL!!!When we called them with questions, they promptly returned our calls. They brought us a few groceries, because they knew we were not comfortable going to the food store, along with their delicious clam chowder from their restaurant Fisherman's Catch! We can not say enough about them, their kindness, and this home!
We are already planning our next visit!!

Peaceful retreat on the coast
Great renters, house was quaint and beachy, very clean and comfortable. Property owners were very responsive to inquiries/issues. 1 block walk to ocean (rocky), 3/4 mile walk to beach. 45 minute drive to Portland airport and South Portland area, 5-10 min drive to Ogunquit. The town of Wells has a couple small restaurants but we drove to Ogunquit or South Portland for most of our dinners. Prego in Ogunquit had delicious pizza.
