About this house rental
Dovedale cottage is a beautifully decorated three-bedroom cottage in the grounds of Stainsborough Hall.
Recently renovated, the accommodation comprises an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area - with a log-burner - three bedrooms, and a bathroom.
One bedroom is on the ground floor and two bedrooms are attic rooms on the first floor.
We provide everything you'll need for a comfortable stay - Linens and towels are included - and we leave those little things you'll need - such as dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, bin bags, tea towels, shampoo, conditioner - in your cottage so you don't need to worry about bringing everything with you.
The terrace at the back of the property overlooks the stunning countryside and beautiful gardens and comes complete with a Webber BBQ and outdoor furniture.
We welcome pets - and provide them with their own (darker) towels and welcome pack. We have fenced terrace areas so that your pets can't get out.
Dovedale cottage is one of five cottages that we have on the estate, but its sufficiently private for you to feel you are getting away from it all.
We do have some communal facilities for you enjoy - such as the Games Room with a table tennis table and extensive DVD collection, a tennis court, and a children's play area .
From the cottage you can step straight out onto the many public footpaths that cross the Derbyshire countryside. You can walk directly from our land on the path around Carsington Water (ideal for walking and cycling), the nearest country pub is a 1-mile walk across the fields and you can walk to the market town of Wirksworth over the fields is less than 30 minutes.
Before you arrive you will receive a comprehensive information pack detailing all the activities that you can do in the area. We also provide an online shopping service should you want to stock your cottage with local produce. And through our partnerships with local attractions, we can offer discount tickets to Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, The Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Museum, and Matlock Farm Park.

Mostly very pleased!
Unfortunately due to a mix-up on my part, our trip had to be cut short. I would have liked to have stayed longer. The property itself is comfortable, well-equipped, cosy, and in a fantastic rural location. My daughter loved the outside play area, and we enjoyed a stroll through the field to Carsington Water. It's a good location for exploring local attractions such as Arkwright's Mill. The garden space is also fab with a wonderful view to the fields at the back, shame we didn't get ideal weather to use it.
However I was disappointed with some of the housekeeping. I went to have a bath with my young daughter on arrival, only to find a huge clump of blonde hair stuck to the tiles, along with lots of soap-splashes. There's no way that the tiles can have been cleaned since the last occupant used the shower. There were also many visible finger marks on the fridge drawer, the TV stand was very dusty, and - this probably can't be helped to some degree - there were little bits of what looked like dead petals/seed cases all over the upstairs beds and on top of the fireplace, which were very hard to clear up without a hoover so they were just everywhere in the bedrooms. They will have blown down via the chimney and the upstairs velux windows which were left slightly open before we arrived. The rest of the house seemed well-maintained but I felt let down by these details, especially given the enhanced focus on hygiene at the moment.
I'd like to go back at some point as the location is stunning, and overall it's a very comfortable property but did feel the cleaning situation let it down a bit.

Clean and tidy. Setting beautiful. Lots of local pubs to eat at and near attractions. New furniture. comfy beds. Beds are not full singles, but okay for our boys. A few bits missing for 6 guests. No Wi-Fi. Very imited tv channels. Okay for us but could be a problem for others. Games room and tennis courts brilliant!

Joanne and Tim were fabulous friendly hosts. Very helpful before and on arrival. Happy to answer all our questions and very informative regarding the surrounding area. The setting of Stainsborough Hall is idyllic with stunning views. Dovedale Cottage is well equipped and had everything we needed during our stay. Six of us stayed in the cottage and there was plenty of room. Early evening drinks on the patio in the sunshine was a bonus as we had good weather too. Amazing walks from the doorstep we didn't need to travel anywhere at all. Thank you for a fantastic girly weekend. We'll be back!!

Peaceful countryside break
Cosy cottage and very friendly and helpful owners. The view from the back of the cottage is gorgeous - sheep pottering on the hills, a little pond with ducks paddling. A real treat for smoke-choked urbanites. A walk through the fields brings you to Wirksworth which has lots of lovely pubs and places to eat, plus antiques shops etc. Perfect for a weekend away.

Lovely cottage, all newly decorated and furnished, in a beautiful location
Joanne was extremely helpful, accommodating and available throughout our stay. We had everything we needed and the games room was great for the family to play table tennis together, with a huge selection of films to watch in the evenings and books to read.
The only thing is that, while WiFi was available in the games room, it wasn't available in the cottage which would have been useful. Maybe, really, this is a good thing for a countryside retreat! We would definitely consider staying here again.

WE loved our stay and the owners are great. Its a very nice property with amazing views. Internet is only available in the game room and there is NO CELL service in the room. But if you are trying to get away from it all, this is the place.

Wonderful, soul-nourishing stay in the Derbyshire countryside
We loved our stay at Stainsborough Hall. Joanne and Tim were wonderful hosts, with just enough information, introduction and welcomes, knowing they were there if we needed anything, but equally left to our own devices to enjoy the beautiful setting they have created. We loved waking up to a wonderful Derbyshire view every morning, our 2 dogs loved the countryside walks and as an international family, we loved having the opportunity to congregate in a rural, soul-nourishing, relaxing environment. Lovely walks exploring the area, BBQ one evening, wonderful cottage with everything we needed. Pristine clean and very welcoming. We would love to return. Thank you Joanne and Tim.
