A lovely place to stay with friendly, helpful hosts; thank you!

A beautiful house, in a lovely town, in a great location (especially for The Bowes Museum). Immaculately clean and extremely comfortable beds. Delicious breakfast (good range of food available), cooked to perfection and served in a delightful dining room.

Exceptional quality, homeliness feeling 10 out of 10

My wife and I very much enjoyed our three night stay at Newgate House, Barnard Castle. We both felt that the exceptional quality, homeliness feeling and lovely cooked breakfast certainly deserves the 10 out 10 score for the hard work and attention to detail given by our host Carole. We very much look forward in returning again to this beautiful part of England Thank you again, Bernhard & Marion

What was meant to be a functional stay turned into an unexpected oasis of peace and restoration.

Newgate house excelled my expectations. It was incredibly peaceful and beautifully decorated. The decor, food and small touches such as fresh milk provided for tea/ coffee, wonderful books and a beautiful spacious, clean bathroom were all wonderful. Level of care and attention from Carole was just right and not at all intrusive.

The welcome and facilities are superb. Highly recommended.

Location very pleasant, quiet, but convenient for town centre. Breakfast exceptionally good. Carole, our hostess, went the extra mile to make us welcome and comfortable. Thank you Carole!

Fantastic Stay - we'll be back!

Breakfast was superb, freshly cooked, delicious, generous portions, and the fruit salad was lovely too. The property is in a great location, and beautifully styled. Immaculately decorated and spotlessly clean. Lots of lovely touches, and the owner Carole was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.

Superb

Excellent breakfast both in choice and quality. Very welcoming hosts. An added bonus was free parking just outside the property. Spacious room with very comfortable bed. Would not hesitate to book again.

Just one minor quibble. A few biscuits in the room to go with tea/coffee would have been nice.

Like being at your friend's house.

Excellent location, felt like being in a friend's home rather than a B&B. The room and bathroom were very clean and welcoming to a weary traveller. Breakfast was great, Carole will cook your breakfast if you wish or you can have it as simple as you like. The room was warm and the bed was very comfortable, I slept very well there. There is plenty of parking available very close to the house.

The room was lovely, as was the bathroom and the hosts. Lovely location and easy to find.

There was a mix up with the check in time, which I felt the host handled very well. However the mix up is the reason for giving a 9 rather than a 10.

A Great Place to Stay in Barnard Castle

Carole is a very gracious host. The room was very comfortable and spacious with lounging chairs, kettle for coffee or tea with milk. A wonderful breakfast! Anyone staying here will not be disappointed. A heritage home only steps away to Bowes Museum and the Downtown. A great 2 night stay. Almost across the street is Capri Restaurant that was very good Italian and also has Standard items on the menu 👌 😀

Carole is a fantastic host who was very welcoming and made our stay enjoyable. The rooms are spotlessly clean with lovely nice touches providing everything you could ever need. We had a great cooked breakfast on both mornings and nothing was ever too much trouble. The house is in a great location for the shops and within walking distance of the Bowes Museum. We will definitely return.

Perfect and great value for money

I had a fantastic couple of nights at Newgate House! Carole and her husband were very friendly and hospitable, and their B&B was immaculately presented throughout. I had the best breakfasts I’ve had in my life there. Will definitely be returning in the future.

excellent breakfast and kept us sustained for most of the day We liked the close proximity to the high street c300 m and there were a number of good restaurants to choose from, especially the Capri which was literally diagonally 200 m over the road Hosts very helpful and nothing was too much trouble

Everything was fine, will definitely make a return visit.

Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. The breakfast was lovely with a varied choice and very well presented from full english to something lighter. The property is conveniently situated a short walk from the town centre. A good variety of shops and plenty of local walks available.
