Centrally located in Chattanooga in the trendy St Elmo Historic District, at the foot of Lookout Mountain.
Private Stinson Suite daylight basement apartment at the Bear House, with its own entrance, offers historic charm with modern-day amenities. Wonderful, private apartment including two bedrooms and a full bath. Open kitchen, living and dining floor plan.
**High quality, fully equipped kitchen with electric stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator. Small appliances include toaster, mixer, crock pot and electric teapot. The hospitality center comes equipped with Keurig and a well stocked variety of coffee, teas and hot chocolate and related condiments. The basics are kept stocked for your convenience: paper towels, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, foils and plastic wrap, salt and pepper, spices, olive oil, canola oil, sugar and some breakfast items.

Our spacious property offers many opportunities for gathering spaces outdoors. The large old-fashioned front porch, courtyard garden and gazebo are wonderful spots for morning coffee, a special evening meal, or a place to relax in a comfortable chair with a good book. The special garden areas, and larger outdoor seating areas provide additional space for your enjoyment. Be sure to explore the carved bears placed around the property and hear their story! In the spring and summer, help yourself to the blackberries and small vegetable garden. And donât miss the scavenger hunt; over 40 sculptured animals roam the property for you to find.
Our beautiful large property sits on an entire block, front to back, in the charming St Elmo Historic District. There is the majestic main house called Historic Bear House 1890 (6500sqft) that consists of 3 other private apartments. My husband and I reside on the private first floor in the main house. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the main house, through the luscious courtyard, is the Carriage House (1600sqft) with 2 private apartments. With over 25 years experience in the rental property business, we specialize in a broad spectrum of lodging needs, from quick getaways, to out of town family and friends, to corporate rentals and short term rentals. My husband and our two children (4 and 6) stayed in the Stinson Suite for 4 nights. The property was great and the kids loved exploring the grounds (talking to Big Foot and riding scooters in the driveway). There was a playground right down the street which we enjoyed and the house very close to Lookout Mountain to visit Rock City and Ruby Falls and go hiking.
Not in the center of downtown, but a quick 15-20 minute drive. We preferred the drive over being in the middle of all the hustle and bustle.
The suite itself had everything we could have needed and was right next to the shared laundry which was convenient. 2nd bedroom was very small with low ceiling, but our kids slept in there so it was a non-issue.

It was a very cute area but it was a bit confusing knowing where to go exactly once we got in the driveway but management was very helpful via text. The room was basement level and beside the laundry which smelled amazing. The floor was very uneven in places and sloped throughout but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great location! We loved staying there. The only issue we had was the mattresses. We rolled into the middle when we slept. Other than that, i highly recommend staying here.

The Stinson Suite apartment was very comfortable, well decorated and well supplied with useful kitchen and bath items. The bed linens and towels were luxurious. This was my second time to stay at the Bear House and I would try to stay there again if I am in Chattanooga in the future.

The entire Bear house property is incredibly charming and inviting. The Stinson Suite was as well. The space is incredibly charming and cozy perfect for 1-2 couples or a small family. St Elmo is a lovely town and is perfectly walkable from the property. Beautiful area and so many great options for food, shopping, and experiences nearby.

The hosts are a very sweet couple that live on the first floor. We stayed on the Stinson Suite and it was fillled with thoughtful touches like a basket of snacks, bottled waters, a coffee bar stocked with creamer and sugar, makeup remover wipes, toiletries, and even a supplies basket with deodorant and toothbrushes in case we forgot something. The location was perfect. We walked to the Incline Railway and restaurants, and Rock City was less than a 10 minute drive. Also, the beds were like sleeping on clouds! We only wish we could have stayed longer.

The Stinson Suite was cozy and charming. However being in the basement there were some ceiling height restrictions and the flooring was uneven making it difficult for older adults or those with disabilities.

We loved the little basement apartment. It was homey, clean, nice private access, all the amenities you could think of. The apartment is nicely stocked with snacks, some drinks, all the little things that so many places do not provide and you do not really want to pack for your vacation or go buy either. This was really a great little place for a small family or would be great for a friends getaway. The homeowners and their assistants were very sweet and are near if you need them for anything.

We had a great time at Bear House! Such a charming and unique place to stay. We stayed in the Stinson suite and it worked perfectly for our family of 4. Two separate bedrooms and a TV in the master allowed us some time to relax together after our kids went to sleep. The kids loved all the statues to look at in the yard. It's within walking distance of a few restaurants, which was very helpful. We are already planning to come back again!

We had an amazing stay in the St Elmo neighborhood last weekend. The location was beautiful....historic homes literally right down the road from the Incline Railroad. While it was roughly a 10 minute drive to the main downtown area, we could walk to several restaurants in the St Elmo district (Mr T's Pizza and Clumpie's Ice Cream were both a hit with our young children). The property itself was immaculate, and had all provisions needed for cooking and meal prep, including paper products, which I always appreciate. The outside property was also beautiful, and my kids enjoyed going on "bear hunts" and "treasure hunts". I would highly recommend this property if you are staying in Chattanooga!

Roomier than we had anticipated, clean as a whistle, charmingly decorated. The apartment is in the lower level of a house in an established and well kept neighborhood at the foot of the mountain, close to restaurants and supermarket. Quiet and very comfortable. Management was very responsive to all questions.

This was the best VRBO we have ever stayed at. Everything was beyond well-stocked. The snacks for the kids were a great touch, and they also loved the scavenger hunt. Perfect example of southern hospitality.

This place was the perfect spot for our visit to family! Only ten minutes drive up Lookout Mountain to all the attractions, short drive to downtown, and a walk to St Elmo! Such a wonderful location and a nice haven during our family trip! The owners are so wonderful and have many great recommendations and history about Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain! I would definitely stay here again while visiting family!

Our stay at the Bear House was a total surprise. The host were great at check in, and we only saw them if we needed something. The neighborhood felt completely safe at all hours. Our apartment was the unbelievably part. The entire space was immaculate. The beds were incredible, everything you would need and then some was provided. A generous snack bowl and candy was supplied which was great with our busy schedule. Convenient to EVERYTHING! We want to book again to stay and enjoy when we don't have such a packed schedule. I would recommend staying on this property 10/10!

Would gladly stay here again. Unfortunately, usually travel with two french bulldogs so probably won't be able to. Cute little historic district just a few blocks from the incline railway. Several restaurants, coffee shop, grocery store, etc. Probably one of the best set up kitchens I've ever had.

I traveled for a quick weekend getaway with my three kids. The Stinson Suite was perfect for us. None of us are taller than 5â9â so the ceiling heights were not an issue but if my husband had been with us, he might have had to stay bent over in the bedroom area and shower.
The location was perfect for the popular sites around Lookout Mountain. We drove to Rock City and Ruby Falls but walking distance to the Incline Railway and a few restaurants.
The hosts were very friendly and had the suite fully stocked with all the necessities including a snack & treat bowl for all of us to enjoyđ We felt totally safe in this charming and renovated historic home. Will definitely look here first when we decide to travel back to Chattanooga again!
