location was good
undergoing refurbishment with exterior of the building covered with sarong and windows boarded up with no view

the location was convenient
we could hear everything from the room next door (conversation/TV…).
no eggs for breakfast. only extra. just remaining cheese rind in a plate for breakfast at 8:30. no more fruit …
when we asked for an advice for a restaurant in the neighbourhood, the person at the reception just told us to go to the restaurant of the hotel…

Great location, 2 min walk from the train station with an amazing view on the coast. Room was very clean, friendly and professional staff, keen to accommodate specific requests - special thank to Emanuela for her service and recommendations. I'll definitely recommend it to those who want to enjoy the city center - shops and restaurant are all located by 5/10 min walk - as well as the Museum and beach clubs on the coast.

The room in the Grand Hotel Excelsior was was clean, spacious and well appointed. There was a large desk with good wifi but only one easy chair. The breakfast buffet offered a wide choice and food could be cooked to order. The restaurant produced excellent cuisine which was delivered by courteous, friendly and efficient staff. It was a pleasure to dine in the restaurant in the evening. The restaurant was on the fifth floor and had panoramic views of Sicily and on a clear day, Mount Etna.
The bathroom was fine with a jacuzzi bath.
All the hotel staff we encountered were well trained, competent and pleasant.
The Museum housing the famous Riace Bronzes was only a few meters away. This was the reason we visited Reggio Calabria. Since we were travelling by train being near the railway station was an important factor in choosing this hotel.
The hotel was being refurbished during our visit. Consequently is was totally enclosed in scaffolding and plastic sheeting. This made the building very difficult to find. It was once a grand hotel but was old fashioned and certainly needed to be upgraded when we visited it. It is still a very good place to stay.

Breakfast was very well run.
The elevators! You could tell that this property was a gem when it was built, maybe in the 60's but the electronics were well out of date. When you opened your room the door buzzed - i don't want to hear that. The 2 elevators had separate buttons - not like any modern system. And when you were in the elevator and pressed the button, nothing lit up. Sometimes waiting for the elevator the light would just go out - you thought maybe because it is here - but no! press the button again.

It was close to the ferry to Sicily, and the breakfast was very good.
We booked a sea view and paid extra for it. There is no sea view! It's the view of a roof! You have to walk out on the balcony and look around the side to see the ocean! That is not an ocean view!

The location was great the staff was super friendly and helpful. I was surprised about the food. Usually, when I travel I don’t eat at the hotel but the breakfast was included so I tried it. wow. best breakfast ever. Was rainy one night so had dinner at the restaurant. Food was excellent!
For the price point property was great! only thing the mattress could have been softer but other than that it was fine!

We visit this hotel most years and enjoy its rooms, restaurant and location

Excellent location and friendly staff. The hotel is across one street from the archaeological museum and the stunning Riace bronzes, and across another street from the beautiful lungomare. The center of town, which is lively and fun, is a short five-minute or so walk away. The staff are very friendly and helpful, providing us with useful information about reaching Sicily (the ferry is only a ten minute walk away). The facilities and rooms are very clean and comfortable.

There was an error with Booking.com, but the hotel manager went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and special throughout after the initial problem. The room was clean with a nice view from the balcony and the location was perfect, very central. I would recommend 😊
The initial receptionist we dealt with upon arrival was rude and unhelpful, but everyone else was lovely throughout.

Very spacious junior suite with awesome shower (and awesome water pressure); literally right behind the archaeology museum and across from amazing Gelato and lungomare.
Somewhat dated, but I liked it. Had a Dulce Vita feel.

The hotel is perfectly located, but is hard to find if you are using Google maps.
The staff is friendly, but maybe a bit patronizing.
The room is adequate.
The hotel could've had a better signage on the street outside. The main sign is not seen from the car when you approaching, which cost us about 10 min of frustrating driving around.
The breakfast is unimpressive to say the least. The staff service breakfast was not very helpful and not very friendly.

Stayed overnight before jumping onto ferry to Sicily . Family of 5. Walked to restaurant, very convenient. Rooms are breathing style of a few decades ago, still clean and on good order. Very polite personnel.

hotel is very nice. the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the bathroom very elegant and spacious. friendly staff. the perfect location in the center of everything, super close to the museum, and super close to the beach. for me it was a pleasant return to this hotel, I fully recommend staying in this hotel.
the only problem often could be the car parking near the hotel. I recommend when booking, call the hotel and also reserve a parking space in the garage downstairs the hotel, because they have agreements with the hotel. otherwise it is not always easy to find parking in the summer in that area.
