Take in the panoramic views of the river and watch the sun set before your eyes on our spacious deck. At night enjoy almost complete silence as you gaze at the stars around the fire pit. Located 2.5 miles from Saint Clements Castle & 8.7 miles to Wesleyan University this 3700 sq ft home features cathedral ceilings, marble foyer, granite counters, hardwood floors, large deck, two fireplaces, "touch" state of the art kitchen, your own private beach & the list goes on. Almost every room has a view of the river. **We now sleep 9 people, we added a 48"x75" Futon to the spare room (sheets provided)

Level 1 features three bedrooms, 2 rooms with queen beds, 1 room with two twin beds all bedrooms have a view of the river. The full bath has double sinks with granite counter tops and a shower/tub. There is also a lower living room with a 43' LCD TV, couch & games to sit & relax. New 2023- all 3 bed rooms have A/C
Level 2- Overlooking the river the main floor features laundry room, half bath, breakfast nook with fireplace insert (wood not included) , gourmet kitchen with stainless touch appliances. The kitchen is fully stocked w/ pots, pans, utensils, air fryer/toaster, almost everything you would need for cooking. The living room has a 60' TV w/ 7 channel surround sound, DVD player with over 150 movies, leather couch & love seat. The dining room has a large cherry table with seating for 6-8.
Step outside to the huge deck to enjoy panoramic views and spectacular sunsets. The deck features an outside 32' LCD TV, outside speakers, couch & lounge chairs with over stuffed cushions, large eight person dining table, propane fire-pit with seating for eight, grill, and a air-chair swing and hammock underneath the deck.
Level 3- The upper level features the master bath with double sinks, granite counter. The beautifully tiled shower has a full glass door, 4 body sprays and a rain shower head. The master bedroom has its own small deck overlooking the river, a 50' TV, an a fireplace with a propane log-set and a large closet. The last room on the upper level is the Study/Bedroom with a 23' Google TV, Futon and a window seat to enjoy the view. (WiFi & Satellite TV through out the home)
Need some piece and quite but still want to have fun? This property is completely private. The 1/4 mile driveway takes you away from any noise leading you to complete privacy & solitude. No neighbors to be seen or heard from including across river. The sounds you would hear would consist of birds, (including a Bald Eagle nesting across the river) and boats traveling the river.

A walk down a stone path will lead you to a deck. Here a staircase brings you to your own private beach on the river. Enjoy the day hanging out on the beach, canoeing, watching the boats, swimming in the river or just make a campfire and relax. 2 canoes and a rowboat are available for you to enjoy at the beach. (Beach items available during peak season)
**The property has a helipad. Helicopters approach from South East (river side) land left of the house. A windsock is located on the roof.

My husband and our adult children spent a wonderful long weekend at this beautiful, spacious, clean, and well appointed property. It was a perfect location to gather and enjoy each other’s company. The deck is especially stunning with amazing views. Although there are plenty of restaurants nearby, we did our own cooking in the spacious kitchen. Another feature we enjoyed was the ability to be all together without ever feeling cramped. And the host was easily available for any questions. We highly recommend this lovely property!

The stairs down to the river were under construction and it made it a bit scary, especially for kids. would of liked a heads up on that.

Very nice large house with huge deck and beautiful views. Two days before arrival owner notified me that stairs to beach were under construction but still would have full access. Stairs (178 of them) and temporary railing were very shaky and did not feel safe. There were also tools and construction debris on and around them. Our main reason for choosing this house was for ‘beachfront’ access, so not being safe to use to get down to water was disappointing. A couple of people in our group went all the way down and said there was also construction debris on small beach. If we knew we were not going to be able to use beach, we would have chosen less expensive accommodations.

A number of friends and I stayed here to be nearby our friends wake and memorial service. It was a really nice homely, quiet space that had plenty of room for everyone and the view over the river is gorgeous. Would love to come back sometime for more uplifting circumstances

The house and views are beautiful. We had 9 of us including 2 5 year olds and a 2 year old. We made a full Thanksgiving dinner in the well equipped kitchen. The house has very large "public" spaces on the main floor, which was great for our group. Had a great stay everything we needed was near by and there are literally no neighbors once you reach the house. The front porch and fire pit are great although pretty cold when we were there. My only suggestion is that for a group our size a few more comfortable chairs inside would be appreciated.

I rented this property with six of my friends and we had such a great time! The deck area was perfect. We were fortunate with amazing weather so we ate all of our meals out there and enjoyed the fire pit each evening. There were hiking trails close by and some excellent restaurants just a 10 to 15 minute drive away. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking for a larger group to get together.

We have a very nice time, the pictures and description is accurate. The view is pretty & it was neat to see all the different boats during the day. Dean was extremely responsive, great host. If you’re looking for a workout definitely hit the stairs going down to the river! There is a very cute vineyard/winery just 5 minutes down the road, highly recommended.

Lovely weekend. The family of the groom stayed here for a wedding at St. Clemente’s castle. Everything Worked out perfectly. Clean, quiet, comfortable. Beautiful views. Highly recommended.

So much more than expected!
We had an amazing visit at the river house. The views are breathtaking and the pictures don't do it justice. The deck was so relaxing from coffee in the mornings all the way through to sunset in the evenings. The interior of the home was lovely and very comfortable as well - MANY extra amenities provided which was very nice. The only thing that could be added would be directions on how to use some of the features of the home. However, Dean was very quick to respond and give answers to all questions. The location was perfect - very secluded yet very close to town for restaurants and grocery stores. We truly enjoyed the time there and would love to visit again!

Beautiful view!
We enjoyed our time here. The weather was great and the view from the deck is fabulous. The stairs to the river are a great workout for those in good shape or young but if you aren't someone who exercises regularly or you're older, you may want to plan to just stay on the deck and in the house. We enjoyed using the kayak and canoe.

Very Good Stay
The property is nicely secluded and located in a stunning setting, with fantastic views over the river and a beautiful, large deck from where to apprieciate it all. The master bedroom is also great. The common area is open and light. The kitchen is modern and well-provisioned. So, overall a very good place to stay.
A couple areas for potential improvement that made this a 4-star, rather than 5-star, experience:
* "Bedroom" 5 is not a suitable bedroom for a 9th guest, as the "futon" is not sleepable (and we are not primadonnas), so our 9th guest slept on sofa cushions on the floor This could be easily rectified with a proper futon/sofa at minimal expense (and sheets should be provided).
*The bedroom with the bunk beds does not have a railing along the top bunk, which made the kids too scared to sleep there for fearing of falling off
* The inside common area with sofas/TV has seating for only five people and when you have nine people at the house, this doesn't work so well. Again, easily rectified by adding another small couch (there is space to do so).
* Generally, our interaction with Dean was very good and he was always responsive. One exception was that we arrived to discover that the oven was not working (which Dean was getting repaired), but it would have been nice to have a heads up in advance so that we could have planned our food accordingly.
Notwithstanding these issues, however, we all had a really good stay and would definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful home & perfect layout for large families
This house was fabulous. Truly a perfect fit for our large family. Teens had there own space on the bottom floor and the parents had a quiet bedroom upstairs. Stunning view and perfect location for our needs. We will book again whenever we come back to the area. Host was awesome as well! 5 star rating!

Unbeatable View
We are just off our annual girls trip and enjoyed this beautiful view for 4 nights. The outdoor space is spectacular ~ the view, the deck, firepit and riverfront beach are outstanding. We were very fortunate to have amazing weather and therefore spent almost the entire weekend outdoors. The house itself is tired and certainly has its share of quirks, if we had to be indoors all weekend we would have enjoyed the stay as much. The owner was very responsive to any issues we had and was ready with a solution to almost everything we needed.

Reunion of old friends
We had a fantastic time at the River house! A reunion of childhood friends, played music, fished from the shore (caught large and small mouth Bass and 1 huge Northern Pike! This is a great place for any occasion! Thank you Dean!

Peaceful retreat on the river
The property offers just the right amount of seclusion while still in close proximity to amenities. You truly feel alone in the best way! Not to mention stunning views of the CT river from an incredible sky deck. This home did not disappoint from the gorgeous kitchen to the master bed that feels like sleeping on a cloud. The stairs to the beach will get your heart pumping but totally worth it for the privacy of your own water hangout. Our family loved it !

Relaxing River House
The River House was great, the pictures do not do the amazing view and deck justice. The house was clean, kitchen stocked with the essentials. It was a peaceful getaway for our family of six. The kayaks were fun and I definitely recommend going over to the sandbar during low tide. The stairs to the beach would be difficult with young children but were fine for teens. There aren’t a lot of good restaurants nearby so bring food to grill. There is a great gas fire pit built into the deck for s’mores. The view is fantastic and the property is completely private. We look forward to going back one day. This house is a great choice, you’ll love it!!

Middle Haddam River House / Dean
This house was the basis for a dream stay for our family of 9. The house is amazing in all ways possible. The deck is all we could have hoped for - grilling outside, morning river views, and cozy evenings sitting by the firepit. Very ample supplies are provided, and Dean offered assistance most promptly when needed. The rooms are spacious and the layout of the house enables easy movement, but privacy as well! This was a family celebration week for a wedding nearby and the house provided PERFECT accomodations.

River House Paradise
Our stay was only for two nights, and we wish it could have been longer. The breathtaking view of the river, privacy and home conveniences made this home the perfect getaway. The house was spotless, and had everything we needed. Our host, Dean, always responded quickly to our questions during the planning phase of our trip, and graciously interrupted his day to resolve some tech issues at the house. We're already looking forward to planning another stay at the River House next year!

Perfect multi generational family retreat
We enjoyed the gorgeous river views and family time together on the expansive deck. We hosted grandparents coming to celebrate our daughters Wesleyan graduation. It was the perfect spot to relax, swim, cookout and be together after this long year apart! A bit further from Middletown than we expected but was worth it for the privacy and gorgeous property on the river.

Incredible location

What a gorgeous view! We enjoyed a relaxing time at the beach at the bottom of the property as well as the propane fire pit on the deck at night. The place was clean, comfortable and we received immediate responses from Dean. We would love to come back!

Football Parent's reunion
This house was was perfect for four couples that just wanted to enjoy the scenery and spend a great time together. The views of the river are spectacular. The deck was great! We spent all day on the deck. The firepit was lovely and the barbecue was perfect. There was even a TV on the deck for the guys to enjoy sports! The kitchen was perfect and the dining room table fit 8 without a problem. The beds were very comfortable and luckily one couple didn't mind sleeping on the bunk beds! There is a winery nearby that was enjoyed as well. Communication with Dean was great. He was very quick to respond when we discovered that there was no hot water. The only thing that we didn't expect was the long staircase to the river! Definitely will get your heart rate going! Overall a beautiful and comfortable place meant to be enjoyed by friends!

Beautiful Location/Amenities
We enjoyed all the outdoor space and water activities. Excellent quiet location to spend time with friends or family. Great and quick communication from host (thank you for being so responsive). The porch provided an area to grill and sit outside, plenty of cooking amenities. There was some issues with TV, but it wasn't a problem. Thanks for a great stay, we do hope we'll come back next year!
