The construction next door for Rockport’s new City Hall and Aransas County Courthouse complex is in the finishing phase. The remaining work is performed during the week, and weekends so far remain quiet and peaceful!! We will continue to provide updates as the project is finished. We ask that you take this in consideration for planning your stay at our home. Thank you for your understanding.
Welcome to The 1868 R. H. Wood House
A true Registered Texas Historic Landmark...The R. H. Wood House, meticulously restored following nearly a 3-year renovation, introduces modern technology & luxury while preserving historical integrity! The son of one of Rockport's founders, Richard Henry Wood (1846-1923) built this home in 1868. It is one of the oldest and most historically important homes in Rockport. Located in Rockport's Heritage and Cultural Arts District overlooking the Rockport harbor, the property is within walking distance to the beach, restaurants/cafes, shopping, festival grounds, fishing, museums, art galleries and much, much more! Please note that this is NOT a pet friendly home.
The home's preservation work included a sensitive removal of non-historic additions, new foundation, insulation, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and state-of-the-art Smart Home technology. The two-story, 3,700-square-foot home with its gracious 10-foot ceilings sleeps 12 persons comfortably in 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths & 1 half-bath. Mature pecan trees shade the large fenced half-acre property and surround the new heated pool and spa that seats 10. The shallow lounging area is only 12 inches deep, suitable for children of all ages. The pool also employs a copper ionization system which allows the water to be chlorinated without added chemicals.
Events/Parties/Extra Guest - This beautiful home is a great place to have small events such as small bridal showers and small birthday celebrations. When booking this home with plans of having visitors over, you must contact the office to discuss event fees and deposits.
The outdoor kitchen with covered lounge area was built with reclaimed wood from an old barn in Iowa. It was designed to accommodate large gatherings around the pool, generous pool deck and yard. It is complemented by a wood-burning fireplace which features a Tuscan grill for cooking. This space would not be complete without a full restroom...shower, toilet, antique sink and custom urinal made out of a stainless steel beer keg!
The new adjacent covered parking area and driveway easily accommodates 4 cars and features one of the first electric car charging stations in Rockport. Bring your Tesla or other EV!
Morning coffee to afternoon tea or evening cocktails, the screened in porch is ideal for an insect and mosquito free zone while taking in the birding, wildlife, scenery or a good book. This wrap around porch has comfortable outdoor furnishings and dining area cooled by ceiling fans and retractable solar shades. The front porch is an excellent spot to watch Rockport's 4th of July and holiday fireworks or to simply watch the morning sunrise over the bay.
For your outdoor entertainment, the home comes with a Sonos Sound system with wireless blue tooth speakers strategically placed around the pool, yard and inside the house. Yes, you can customize your experience with music inside and sports outside or vice versa. Instructions will be provided in home for your convenience.
Let's take a stroll inside, where the Owner's pride shines in every detail of this piece of history with your comfort in mind. To enhance your stay, the home features scentology with a choice of soaps, shampoos, and amenities by EO Products of Marin County, CA.--all sustainable organic products made from essential oils. All beds feature mattresses from Tuft & Needle using T&N's reactive foam technology for a very comfortable night's sleep. High thread count sheets and plush towels. Amenities have been carefully thought of in advance and provided for a first-class experience.
The Owners employed many green, earth-friendly methods in their work, and also salvaged and re-used as many of the original materials from the home as possible. The furnishings are an eclectic balance of both antiques and art collected by the Owner, with soft comfortable furnishings clad in removable washable slipcovers. Upon your visit here, there will be a detailed history with "before, during and after" photos of each room. The restoration is truly a labor of love.
The modern technologies include wireless internet, thermostatic controls, satellite TV and YES, the aforementioned electric car charging station. A specially designed high-velocity system provides AC & Heat centrally throughout the home. There are 4 fireplaces downstairs that were carefully restored and made operable with reproduction cast iron gas burning coal inserts. All 4 oak fireplace mantels with mirrors are original to the house.
The Library with table and lounge furniture provides a quiet place to read, assemble puzzles, play cards, board games, work if you must, or simply enjoy the coastal views through the front bay windows. There is also a display case containing interesting artifacts discovered during restoration.
Adjacent to the Library is a bedroom that features an early 1850's rope Tester full-sized bed, fireplace and a closet converted to a half bath featuring an antique corner sink. This bedroom overlooks the pool and has a private door to the screened in porch.
The Master bedroom is home to a stunning antique 9' tall Victorian walnut queen-sized bed that survived the Galveston Hurricane of 1900. AND...the master bath will be a pleasant retreat with its' open shower plan (handicap friendly) with a floor drain; Bath time! Time for a luxurious soak in the restored "cowboy" bathtub adjacent to the fireplace.
Continuing this stroll we enter the dining room which showcases the home's original beaded board walls where an antique dining table seats 8-10 comfortably. It is lit by a much talked about chandelier that is made out of old silver spoons.
In our family get-togethers, it never fails; the kitchen is the main gathering spot. Our kitchen comes with all new top of the line appliances: Kitchen Aid side-by-side refrigerator w/filtered water & ice maker, DW, a five-burner gas stove/oven/microwave combination. Fully stocked with spices, paper goods, coffee, cookwares, utensils and more for your cooking pleasure. With its' 5 foot long antique reproduction sink and wood countertops made from the house's old roof rafters the kitchen is the true heart of this home. The adjacent counter height seating and 'Lounge' area allows us to be part of the action without being in the kitchen. This area can easily accommodate many cooks for any large family meal or event.
Before we head upstairs, let's talk about the staircase. First of all this home was originally a 1 story with a generous unfinished attic space with no means to get up there. The c. 1880 staircase was sourced by the Owner from a house that was being torn down in Commerce, Tx. It was a rare find and once purchased it made the trip to Rockport in several long sections and parts all packed up into the Owner's pickup truck. viola!
The upstairs space with its exposed antique hand hewn beams is equally as inviting with 2 bedrooms, restroom, walk-in shower, laundry room and TV lounge. At the top of the stairs 2 sliding barn doors to the restroom and laundry room grace the hallway.
The TV lounge was the original attic space at 12' high ceilings with the proper furnishings and dormer window bed creates a quiet respite with a small window view south to the bay.
The North bedroom in the turreted attic space is a favorite of one of the Owner's business partners who are 5'5" tall. This cozy room with low pitched ceilings, queen bed and dormer bed is also a favorite with the kids.
The West bedroom, at the opposite end of hall was added over the kitchen. king bed and 3 cozy twin beds in the dormer windows with seating/reading area was designed with young families in mind.
This home is truly a must-see and must-experience. We are available for small day or night events, small weddings, small conferences, retreats or simply a vacation - romantic rendezvous, small family reunion or festival stay. This property has to be on the top of anyone's list looking for a relaxing weekend or a fishing trip to the Texas coast. The setting and the property are both 10 out of 10. Everyone who reached out was polite and professional. They all provided great information and/or resolved my inquiry promptly.

This home is absolutely stunning! I have no negatives.
Construction was happening next door, but it never bothered us at all. The pool was clean and a lot of fun for our family to gather and play. We used the hot side once and it was wonderful. Bring your own floaties. Lots of kitchen tools, plates, etc. Everything in working order. Beds so comfortable. It's a gorgeous house. Wish we could've stayed longer!

The Historical Wood home was like stepping back in time, but with all of the modern conveniences. This home was beautifully and impeccably restored. The back porch, swimming pool, covered pavilion and front porch rockers were enjoyed by all. The home was very clean and the beds were wonderful. We loved how the family of this home used original fixtures, mirrors and photographs to accentuate the history of this historical dwelling. The air conditioning worked fabulously and is one of a kind. Everything about this home is over the top perfection.

We had a family gathering to celebrate my mother at this property and our group consisted of people age 18 months to 67 years. It was fitting for all ages and the pool was a major bonus. We really enjoyed hanging out on the porch and exploring the home's history. I loved the abundance of towels for the multiple pool dips and beach trips, the handy cleaning supplies, the outdoor dining space, and the sleeping nooks to keep the littles safe while snoozing so the parents could enjoy a cold beverage downstairs and outdoors. It was a short drive to the beach (just across the street) and a stroll away from cute beach shopping. The host was responsive and hospitable. The sound system was a real treat and the oldness of the home gave a "haunted" aspect that was fun to spook the kids with (hehe). Our only complaint is that we did not stay longer!! We look forward to coming back next summer!
PS If you stay here, make a point to read to guest book and see what you find out about a particularly special guest in the past! ;)

We had two families with two children each stay at the home. So much space for the children and adults. The weather was rather cold for Spring Break week, but the heated pool was a life saver! The screened in porch shielded the wind and a great place for the adults to hang out and play cards.
This was the second time renting the property and we can’t wait to come back!

Nutshell: beautifully restored historic gem with all the modern comforts wrapped in a warm nostalgic blanket of a colorful past.

This property exceeded our expectations with regards to the cleanliness of the property and the overall decor. Every piece of furniture was comfortable and my kids thoroughly enjoyed waking up to spend all day in the pool. A great destination property for a short family trip. We already have plans to come back again! Thank you for everything to the staff at YKnot property management. They kept us in the loop every step of the way with changes related to the property during our stay. See you soon!

Construction site next door
We have stayed at the property many times over the years with good experiences. We were disappointed that the property manager didn't disclose the extremely loud construction site with heavy equipment, including cranes and drilling rigs, immediately next door.

Lovely house but terrible communication & blurry rules
When we first arrived the house was lovely! Everything was so clean, we enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch with the fans and not having to worry about bugs getting us. The kitchen was supplied with everything needed to cook a meal. But our trip quickly went bad on Saturday while celebrating our daughters first birthday (an event) that we had notified the management company about before booking through VRBO. Never were we asked about the number of guests or anything after stating that we were celebrating a birthday on the booking. While opening gifts during my daughters first birthday celebration I was contacted and told that I need to pay a ridiculously large extra amount for the event that was taking place. Keep in mind that at the time the rules stated, “Any visitors beyond the number of guests registered in your booking will be charged a ____ per day fee unless an event was arranged in advance.” (An event was arranged in advance when I stated we would be celebrating a first birthday) This caught us extremely off guard. Being in a customer facing sales role for a large dealership I completely understand that when you provide a service or product, appropriate compensation is required. However, the product/service provider has a responsibility to be honest and provide a great deal of communication and integrity up front and before hand. It was never communicated to us when we paid originally if the event charge/ deposit was included on the invoice that we paid. Because we are good people and wanted to do the right thing as well as enjoy the rest of the day celebrating our daughter we paid immediately on Saturday after being contacted multiple times in the middle of the birthday party. I also understand our hands are tied at this point because we did the right thing. After reflecting on the situation, I feel the lack of communication and very blurry “event rules” from both management and the owners should be made clear and updated on future contracts so people like us can make decisions on where to rent ahead of time as the rules are not very straightforward. I DO NOT RECOMMEND renting this house if you plan on having any guests, much less an event. As even if you advise the owners of your plans, your entire day may be ruined by phone calls and email requests to pay an additional large fee.

Wonderful Experience!
Every single thing about this house was thoughtfully and beautifully done! From the fixtures to the amenities, it was all so lovely. The layout was great - so many good gathering spots that people could have space if they needed it. The bedrooms were very comfortable. I have never seen such well-decorated bathrooms, even! We were in the pool every day and loved being able to walk and golf cart around the downtown. Also loved being able to see the wharf from the house. Everything we could have needed for cooking and relaxing was available. We brought our own bocce set and had a tournament on the gorgeous lawn. We also really enjoyed the outdoor sound system while swimming. Cannot wait to stay there again!!

Relaxing get away
Beautiful home. Very clean. We didn’t need a thing…amenities were great. Grandkids especially loved the big room upstairs where they could hang out in their own cubby beds.

Beautifully renovated home
Everyone loved the beautiful home, the awesome backyard pool, and the grounds were kept immaculate. The only down side were the high beds, which were a little difficult for our elderly members.

Beautiful historic home in good location
The house was clearly a labor of love. Everything was gorgeous. I could've spent hours looking at all of the historical photos and the details. Loved the decor. It was clean and well-stocked, although oddly we were only provided four bath towels for six guests. My children loved all of the bed nooks and the stuffed dogs. They even had games and puzzles. I loved the screened in patio. They have automatic lights by the pool, and you can control the heater in hour-long increments. The house is walking distance to the marina and the beach (10 minutes) and the strip of restaurants and shops. There was a loud fight in the middle of the night outside the tattoo parlor across the street on a Friday night, so keep that in mind if you're walking around late at night. Also I tried asking the property manager a couple times for area recommendations (kayak rentals and fishing) and never got a reply, but there were restaurant recommendations and menus provided in the house. I would stay there again.

Historic Elegance
The Wood House sits in the heart of Rockport. You are transported back in time when you step foot into this 19th century gem of a home. We enjoyed the comfort of the home - although historic, it holds all the modern day comfort you need. The screened porch was our mainstay during our trip - coastal breezes, the pool, and a cool cocktail make you never want to leave it.
If you love history, the charm of an old home, and Rockport, you will thoroughly love your stay at the Wood House!

Fabulous family getaway
Pictures don't do this house justice! We needed a nice family getaway and stumbled upon this place. It's absolutely beautiful, very well kept. The outdoor space is fantastic, we ate dinner on the screened in porch every night and swam in the pool every day. The kitchen is well-equipped, which we really appreciated since we visited during the Covid spike. Also a bonus is that the beach is super close! We definitely plan on coming back!

Amazing home
We wanted to have an intimate wedding with ~50 of our closest friends and family and were looking for a place that was unique and special. The R.H. Wood House was exactly that. The home itself is incredible, the owners have done an amazing job restoring it and putting beautiful, unique touches throughout the home. The backyard is equally as incredible with large spaces and a great pool and hot tub. This home was absolutely perfect for our get together and we hope to return in the future on our anniversary!
The communication with the property manager was also seamless. They were there to assist with questions we had, the check-in process was smooth and simple, and they allowed us to have our dream wedding in a dream location.

70th Birthday Celebration
Really enjoyed our time at the Wood House. Beautifully restored home decorated with wonderful period antiques. Loved the history of the home. Pool and hot tub were beautiful and inviting. Neighborhood was close to everything however it was only 2 blocks from a detention center. A bit misleading on price....said it sleeps 13 however there was an extra charge on more than 6 and couldn't find this in initial listing. Loved the button light switches and the adorable dining light fixture. Over all a great experience in a historic home.

Simply Beautiful
My family enjoyed our stay in this elegant and beautifully restored treasure. Every detail of our stay was smooth and pleasant and every need anticipated. I was concerned about having only one TV but it turned out to be just what we needed. My 11 year old grandson actually told me he was glad because everyone stayed outside more!!! Beautiful vacation memories!!

A beautiful property and the perfect home for a family vacation!
Easy to get to from CC airport, small town with super nice community. House was beautiful and was stocked with everything a family would need to enjoy their stay. Had some very minor issues with the sound system and pool, but overall an amazing experience. Would definitely book again in future if we visit the area again the future.
